    What a joke of an answer from Albo. Anyone in the industry knows that native forests can be sustainably harvested. Now we are just going to be importing the same wood from overseas native forests. It is sheer lunacy.

      The fact is we, as an industry, no longer have the ability to create a product or a viable business model to match supply with demands.
      Importing hardwood timber using Chinese coal/iron money is not a sustainable business model, and is extremely financially uneconomical.
      Labor and the greens have locked up the state forests. Farmers can't fence, and builders can't build.
      But the city leeches keep giving their vote to "feel-good" faux environmental bullshit
      A lot of damage is already done.
      Best case scenario, if we change course now the timber industry could be back at 2015 production levels again by about 2068.

    • @jacksonjdr94
      @jacksonjdr94 Рік тому

      Nobody is or has ever been deforesting Australia.
      This is laughably far from the truth.
      At 8.05 million hectares, Victoria's state forests represent about about 7% of all Australian state forests.
      Of those 8.05 million hectares, only about 3k are harvested annually. This is 0.04%
      Once harvested, a site is managed for regeneration. The same site won't be harvested again for approx 45 years.
      Just to be clear, this means the percentage of Australian state forest harvested in Victoria is 0.000028% annually.
      This practice will cease comoletely on Jan 1st 2024. A full 6 years earlier than the 2030 date Albo claimed during his campaign.
      When the hardwood timber industry goes belly up, 4000 jobs go with it, and 500 million dollars is removed from the local economy.
      Also the current timver shortages will become extreme, and cost billions for the building and construction industry. Which makes up 8% of the state economy.
      But hey, inner city greenies want to feel good about themselves, and will vote for whoever panders to their ignorance.

    • @oldgolfer7435
      @oldgolfer7435 Рік тому

      @@jacksonjdr94 There is little doubt that the public is fed misinformation from both sides of this question. However it is only in more recent years that the problem of logging our native forests has become an issue. Most of the natural timbers so cherished by the early timber industry took hundreds of years to reach maturity. Without concerned members of the public there would be no limits as the early companies showed no interest in conservation. The trees, in 40 years cannot grow to maturity, so they are in a continual state of harvest, and that is not conservation.
      Humans should learn to exist with the environment and not destroy it. At Wittenoom in West Australia hundreds were employed in the asbestos industry. The Industry was closed to save human life, and this became an immediate imitative even though jobs were lost. Protection of our forests will do the same thing over a longer term.
      The destruction of our old growth forests, although responsible for many jobs as you say is carried out for the ultimate benefit of a few. Looking after the workers should be a priority.

    • @jacksonjdr94
      @jacksonjdr94 Рік тому

      @oldgolfer7435 @oldgolfer7435 your narrative is all emotion and devoid of any fact. Insinuating I have provided "misinformation" without offering any correction is pretty poor form.
      The proportion of state forests that is available for harvest has always been relatively minuscule. The vast majority, over 90% has never been harvested.
      And now they're closing it off completely due to ignorant greenie idealogues who think **any** tree harvested anywhere is one too many.
      These people have no concept of how large Australia's forests are compared to the relatively small yet vital industry they're actively trying to wipe from existence.
      I am a third generation sawniller here in Victoria and I know for a fact that environmentalist narratives of unsustainable logging practices suggesting that forests could be ever be depleted are literally pure propaganda with no basis in reality.
      The stupid thing is, we as a nation have begun importing inferior breeds of hardwood timbers from nations with far less responsible logging practices, and making ourselves complicit in those practices.
      The most environmentally responsible thing we could possibly do is supply our own countries demand with sustainable logging business models.
      But the government won't let us, because of ignorant greenie voters.
