Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar 2023 - Most Expensive Bazaar in the World! - Singapore
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 вер 2024
- Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar is the Mother of all Ramadan Bazaars in Singapore. This is the Big One that everyone wants to visit. With more than 700 stalls, this year's bazaar is the biggest ever. It opened on the same day as the Geylang Serai Light-Up. Free Open-Top bus tours were offered for the 1st time.
Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar has also notoriously been given the title as the most expensive Ramadan Bazaar in the world. Food stalls rental were between S$16K to S$19k. Kebab stalls were the worst hit and were rented out at a whooping S$24k. As a result, vendors have no choice but to increase the prices of their food. Organisers are reaping millions in profit while consumers have to bear the trickled down high costs. I hope that the consumer watchdogs will do something about this and not let the free market run wild.
Join me for a walk through this Bazaar which spans over a very wide area. Please leave a comment to let me know your thoughts. Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Thank you for watching 🙏

Really happy watching Your beautiful video t here ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you for watching my friend.
Thank you for sharing this amazing glimpse into the Geylang Serai Ramadan bazaar.
Thank you, my friend from Korea 😀
Fantastic street food tour. People really enjoy the variety of food choices they can get from there. It’s a fun event for foodies 🤩👍🏼 the lights are also very festive
There are several stalls by the same vendor, such as Ramly Burger and The Original Vadai, selling the same food. However all these same stalls are doing very well. The food must be good.
@@SingaporeCityWalks yes their food look so tasty and flavourful. Singapore is foodie’s heaven 👍🏼
Wow every year they have a big ramadan bazaar event. They really expanded and spent a lot of money making it better and more amazing than the year prior. Thanks for sharing the action there. like 46
The organisers spent a lot of money making it bigger. By doing so, they collected even more 💰. Stalls have to pay a big sum of money to them. This bumps up the prices of the food and customers end up paying more. Greed knows no bounds. The food is good though.
Very cool bazaar!!
Michael, this is the most popular bazaar. People from all over Singapore will visit here. I have also featured 2 other bazaars. Kampong Glam Ramadan Bazaar is at a Heritage District and Woodlands Ramadan Bazaar is in a typical Heartlands area. All are nice in their own ways.
Amazing Bazaar tour at the night ..... looks absolutely fantastic....thanks for sharing👍👍👍
This Bazaar is growing very big. They added a free open-top bus tour too! It is nice, and the ambience is great. Glad that you like it 😀
Another great walking tour 🎉 again. Love it brother. You are the man

Beautiful scenery at night.. the food looks so delicious
Yes, the food are delicious. The street light up adds to the atmosphere 😀
Bulk of the profits go to the organisers. Something must be done to ensure rental is affordable.
Wisma Geylang Serai, under the Peoples Association, tendered out the Bazaar and pocketed S$2.26 million doing nothing much. The group that won the tender had to make back the 2.26m and make a profit after their expenses. So who is the greedy party?
Beautiful night walk in ramadan bazaar great to see all shops, people and traffic! It's a nice ambience there. Great footage as well ✨👌33:09
Nice ambience but the food is expensive. They should lower the rent and make the food cheaper. Thanks my friend.
Andainya bazaar di geylang serai ini tamat seminggu selepas raya kan lagi meriah
Thanks for your suggestion. I believe that stall holders want to celebrate Raya too. If it extends 1 week, most of the stalls will be empty. Just my view.
Great walking tour in the city..😊

For so many years , didn't bother to go to bazaar Ramadhan, not game with such events.!
In Ramdhan we are supposed to feed the poor, donate clothes to the needy, and wow " most expensive bazaar in the world" what ashamed. !!
Very sad....!
Ramdhan is a month to care, to help, to give, to be helpful.......
But people are making profits !??.
I agree that it's a shame. The organisers are raking in huge obscene profits. The stalls are trying to recover the costs by raising prices and the customers end up paying more. This month reminds people to care, help and give. The authorities have to step in to set things right and not let the free market runs its course.

Thank you my friend for your wonderful comments 😀
So good❤
Laya, thanks for your support 😀💖
yummy food overload 😅
The vendors bid between $16k to $18k per food stall on average. I wonder if they earn enough profits. The biggest winner is the organiser.
nice foodie everywhere! :)
John, your videos on Kampong Glam and Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaars are very well filmed. I love it. Thanks also for supporting my channel.
Very happening good bazaar
Yes, great atmosphere and good food. Thanks for you nice comment.
Singapore govt have share and make money in almost everything including high rentals for Bazaar Ramadhan.
Yes, they make money in almost everything - your flats, your cars and of course bazaars.
Ada juga dengar desas desus tentang harga 'kayangan' in maybe most or some of the stores/stalls/food stalls...
Esok2 nak pergi tengok2... ✌️😁
You mean expensive food prices? It’s true and that’s what you will see. The festive mood will make you want to buy though food is overpriced.
@@SingaporeCityWalks yeap. Will be going on this Monday. Will check it out... But thank you for this vid, really sets the mood! ✌️😁
I would love to visit this bazar, greetings from Jakarta 👍

High Class Pasar Malam ,
High class bazaar in the world's most expensive city
Nice, haven't been to one since the pandemic started
You can join the festive spirit, take the Hippo bus and enjoy the street food. There's lots of food to chose from 😀
This one not Bazaar Ramadhan. This one is an expensive Pasar Malam in Ramadhan. Want real Bazaar Ramadhan? Go Malaysia.
That's another way to look at this. Expensive Pasar Malam in Ramadhan. Haha.
😆
Malaysians also complain about the price increase of their bazaar foods. Every other country also experiences the same situation due to inflation.
@@space4495 Singapore should be the champion in raising prices. The stalls rental here are between S$16k to S$18k. Don you know what are there stall rental prices in Malaysia?
yes i agree, but I think their rental the stall cost is rediculos its more than $3k !!! not cheap!!!
Go Malaysia Bazar Ramadhan very best, syiok, sedap😋👍🌹Big Bazar Ramadhan 😁
Thanks for watching 🙏
not so much stalls now unlike before, but overall, love pasar malam food :)
The food is nice with many good feedback. Only the price is getting higher. Can't help it as the stall rental is very high.
Kangen SINGAPORE...
You are welcome to visit again. Thanks for your comment 😀
Slm knl dr jiran sblh tanjung balai karimun kawan....!!
Terima kasih kawan 😀
I actually did a rough calculation for the profit margins with the rent they've demanding... After all the second party costs.. They are making a shit load of money buddy😮
I would say, they are demanding obscene profits.
We can alwaya blame no one but inflation which means you can blame no one for expensive
The Bazaar organisers reaped too much profit. They caused the high prices.
After Ramadhan all the stall holders will start crying when they notice that after paying the exorbitant rent they is no profit but may incur lost.
I think most stalls will make some profit as there's big crowd nightly. This is the biggest and most popular bazaar that most locals and tourists want to visit. I am sorry for the Kebab stalls across the road. I read that they paid $24k in rental. They were promised exclusivity but they were played out by the unscrupulous greedy organisers.
Organizers wanna make quick buck, and because there are many stallholders willing to fork out the money, the price will always be jacked up. Hope they all boycott it for one year, and I'm sure consumers can visit other bazaars for that one year. We need to bring back normalcy.
I hope that will happen too. Consumer boycott will hurt the stall holders. Stall holders boycott will never happen as human nature will never change. Competition is here to stay. We need authorities to step in.
100%..greedy organisers need to be told we still hv democracy😎

Are u using Dji pocket btw?I’m making a guess base on what the kebabs bro was saying bout the camera being small.Very nice colour if unedited.
Yes, I'm using the DJI Pocket 2. The colour was bumped up a notch during editing. Thanks for watching my friend.
Nampak bersih & organize , best kalau dapat pergi
Thank you for watching my friend. You have a few more days to go there!
Ahahahaha….
When I was there (Monday 20 March Afternoon) it was mostly empty and some stalls are still under construction. At least I went to most areas on my kick scooter, though with *no* dashcam…
You went on a weekday afternoon when people (customers) are at work. It should be crowded in the evening.
@@SingaporeCityWalks
I also noticed one thing...
Seems like I see the *same* Thai Milk Tea vendor three times (Ah Moi), bought their classic milk tea from one of their 'chain stores' and they were nice to charge me $4 for 800ml (normally $4 is for 700ml but since I brought my own bottle, well they *gave me free 100ml of tea!*).
@@ZHD1987E You are very environmentally conscious 👍. Thai milk tea has 3 stalls, Satu Litre has 2 big drinks stall, Original Vadai has 5 and Ramly Burgers has more than 10 there. According to reports on social media, they had to bid between S$16k to S$18k for each stall. The organiser, Wisma Geylang Serai, is making millions of $ from this bazaar and all consumers end up paying more. Except for the high costs (obscene profits), the Bazaar is well organised with free bus rides and many dining areas..
Update: Said bazar is embroiled in some form of controversy like using live animals, and control of which stalls can run…
Not many people . HOW COME .? Expensive lah .....people go JB and shop lah
It was reported that 2 million people have visited Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar after 3 weeks since opening. It's still crowded.
Hi! There’s another bazaar at Downtown East called “Twilight Flea & Feast Ramadhan Bazaar” that’s open from Thursdays to Sundays. I never went there & dk how it looks like..can you visit that place for me🥹👉👈
Thanks for letting me know. I googled to check as I am not aware of this bazaar at Downtown East. It's happening from 13-16 April 2023 and there's not much info on it. These Twilight folks had a 3-day event at Suntec in Feb. There's also a Songkran Music Festival at Downtown East on 14 & 15 April which could also be interesting. I will decide later and visit if I am free. Thanks Sen Tou 😀
Hi Sen Tou, I went and did recordings at Twilight Flea & Feast. It was good and some of the food were not sold in other pasar malams. The 'flea market' inside the marque was big and there was a Malay performance in the open area. I am editing and will be posting this video soon. Thanks for your suggestion.
@@SingaporeCityWalks omg sorry for replying late.. thank you so so much!!! I really appreciate you making the video😭❤️

Now non muslim will know Ramadhan is a month full of food...
Yes, very nice food too 😀
😂
I only went geylang 1 day. Look at the food and drink prices as well as prices for kuih in bottles and other stuff. In the end, purchased 1 tub of fries and 3 kebab, and decided not to go there again.
I'm so curious how they counted the number of people that went bazaar geylang. Maybe they just say random number of millions on tv.
Thank you for your honest comment. I am curious on how the Minister counted more than 3 million visits to this Bazaar. Another Minister defended the tendering of the Bazaar (S$2.26 million) in Parliament and said that the organiser as well as the stall holders bid for the stalls, knowing the prices and should have done their homework. There was no expression of regret at the high prices in this most expensive bazaar in the world. They are happy to have 'earned' 2.26 mil just by tendering out the bazaar. Next year's bazaar could be even more expensive since the authorities are happy with this year's.
@@SingaporeCityWalks that's what I too read up on. It's like the $2.26 mill is like the "COE" price for that plot of area but for just 1 month at that?? Then that COE paper can throw in bin. Like blow your mind.
Hope that it doesnt end up like Marsiling case selling non-halal foods.
Selling non halal food is accepted in Marsiling as 20% of the stalls is reserved for this. It was the selling of pork that was the problem. They have stopped it.
Hi May I know what camera you are using?
Mark, I am using the DJI Pocket 2. If you are thinking of getting one, wait. Pocket 3 is coming out soon. Thanks for watching 😀
@@SingaporeCityWalks thanks for the reply. I am using Go pro 11 and I don't like the quality in low light.

This bazaar is actually meant for Hari Raya but it seems no stall selling Raya kuih
They are selling hipster food and drinks. I didn't see Raya kueh too. Maybe these are not profitable.
Few more years down the road maybe there is no more geylang serai bazzar because the rental is overpriced❗
Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar will be here to stay. Just like the Chinatown Street Market during lunar New Year, these will always be there. What we might see is a public backlash against the organisers - S-Lite Event Support, TLK Trade Fair and Events, and Enniche Global Trading. Our Muslim Members of Parliament should not keep quiet. The grassroots organisation and Wisma Geylang Serai should not keep quiet.
Yep if not how can the stall holders cope with the rising cost through the year
0.05 Apa nama lagu ni ? Sedap yaa... terima Kasih
I'll reply in English if you don't mind. This music piece is called 'Raya Ambience' from music library 'Melody Loops'. It's a royalty free music - meaning, you need to pay for the license before you can use it. I like this music very much. Very sedap, 听到心醉

Malaysia bazaar 👍
This bazaar is in Singapore my friend. Thanks for watching 🙏
Because many people say malay food is cheap, so they raised their food prices….simple psychological logic.
It was super expensive. The trend has been set and the authorities defended their non action to lower the prices. It will be more expensive next year 😢
$5 $6 for a drink… helll nawww.. i rather buy starbucks on tht price range
You are right. It's expensive here. Prices have gone up. They should keep prices low for Ramadan Bazaar.
@@SingaporeCityWalks even bazar become atas and glorified pasar malam in Singapore. Bazar n pasar malam shud be a place where people can buy cheap street food. Now bazar price no different with f&b price at malls. Might as well buy at mall, can enjoy free AC
@@nassrol I agree with your view. Street food should be cheap at bazaars. Wisma Geylang Serai collected a cool $2.26mil from the organisers who had to recoup the money by renting out the stalls at high prices. Who is causing the high food prices? Wisma, the organisers or the stall holders?
18k stall rent. Ridiculous
The food ends up being more expensive and the organisers get 💰💰
😮😮😮😮 SGD18K + - RM60K kayo organiser
The money should spend for the poor not for bazaar don't waste food some the got bad smell
You are a good man Rahim Abdul. Be blessed 😀
Singapore will start to plan on registering “Ramadhan Bazar” as singaporean heritage..marketing it around the world as u unique singaporean culture in ramadhan..making it a major event that you can only experience in ramadhan..drawing millions of tourists around the world in ramadhan…
Just like how they branded food courts as “hawker centers”..
I like jibe on the Ramadhan Bazar. On the Hawker centres, the authorities is constantly building new ones and upgrading old ones. Food is cheaper than the air-conditioned and privately owned food courts.

So many comments on the expensive factor..maybe the organiser thinks everyone just print money all day?
The food indeed is expensive. Wisma Geylang Serai collected a cool $2.26mil from the organisers who had to recoup the money by renting outage stalls at high prices. Who is causing the high food prices? Wisma, the organisers or the stall holders?
@@SingaporeCityWalks all are guilty..Wisma mostly and most places in Spore..a lot of good fair prices business are gone due to this ridiculous price hiking.
@@salamwati9281 Yes, Geylang Serai is the worst. Most businesses in Singapore are having the same greed problem. The authorities must be thinking that this is acceptable. I am very sad.
Sorry, but i dont feel the vibe like Ramadhan Bazaar in Malaysia. Is this the first Ramadan Bazaar in Singapore?
nope, not the first ramadan 😊
We have been having Ramadan Bazaars in Singapore for a very long time already. Can you suggest some Malaysian channels so that I can see the Malaysian vibes? Thanks for watching.
You know it's not the first Ramadan bazaar so no need to be sarcastic. I thought it's a holy month for you? But here you are being a cheebye anak sial here making these types of comments just to try to insult Singapore.
Of course lah u cant compare Singapore here with Msia there in terms of bazaar & pasar malam.
Common sense right?
How would u feel if example Sporeans here were to compare the country’s crime rate with Msia?
Make a big differ right?
U get the picture?
Samdol tul lah.
Every year Geylang Bazaar same complaints… who are the people behind these high rentals? The Malay generally can’t afford. I’ll just patronise Kg Glam or those neighbourhood ones…. Sakit Hati…
Ask Wisma Geylang Serai. I am patronising the neighbourhood ones already.
Chennai will give rock bottom bargain, cheapest in the whole planet
Prince increase, portion decrease. it's trash now
Price increase, portion decrease, but food is still good. Not trash.
I feel most foods and drinks are so over priced. 😒
Definitely over priced. The stall were rented out at exorbitant prices and the stall holders need to recover the costs. Authorities have to check on the organisers to stop the greed.
gila semua mahal makan dan minuman. ini penjual mau naik haji pulang balik 😂. makanan dan minuman sepatutnya letak ja harga $100 alang² dh mahal nak mampus 😂
Yes, the prices are crazy and expensive.
Wa lao... Business so bad ah..? Bloody $18 k a month 😭
The authorities should step in and control the prices. This can't keep going up due to market forces. The poorer people will not get to enjoy the Ramadan Bazaar.
There will be one night when they will parade garbage trucks, dump trucks, semi-trucks and delivery trucks and vans. Wait for that..😅😂😂😂
That will be Hari Raya eve after midnight. This happens at Chinatown Chinese New Year eve too. Can't be helped.
It is just weird to line up ordinary trucks & lorries in streets and make annoying noise. It is their culture? I would understand if those trucks & lorries are pimped-up.
@@smed9481 Sorry I don't know what you are referring to. You mean the trucks and lorries that's packing up the Bazaar things are making a lot of noise?
On the night when they paraded the trucks and lorries and sounding the annoying horns and blasting loud "can't understand" music.
