NO One can replace this man! THIS IS BARNABAS! PERIOD.
I agree 100%! RIP Dear Jonathan Frid; I still love you 50 years after you became my first childhood crush. :-)
I agree 100%
He was hot😆
@@user-gy6lh8rd5g completely agree!
@@TakersMissy same here.
He was a fine actor and sweet man. In an interview he said that true terror as an actor was coming down the stairs on the set of Collinswood and not knowing a single line of dialogue yet knowing while the cameras were rolling he had to read the lines off the teleprompter and make them sound natural and have the look of spontaneity with the other actors in the scene. After all the years, his fans still adore him. He was my first crush as a kid, and I still have the autographed photo he sent me when I was in the 7th grade.
God, how I wish I would have been able to attend one of these and to meet this incredible man. I'm on my 2nd time re-watching the series on my Firestick. Talk about bringing back amazing childhood memories. I'm so glad all of these wonderful people are immortalized on film. There will never be another. Rest well, Mr. Frid. You were very, very loved.
I bet if there was daytime Emmys back in DS days, Jon would have had several.
Pancake 52 • JOHNATHAN FRID, WOULD HAVE GOTTEN A BUNCH OF THEM HE WAS ONE OF THE BEST SOAP OPERA HORROR ACTORS THEY EVER WERE AND EVER WILL BE. I FIRST WATCHED DARK SHADOWS IN JULY OF 1969 MIGHT HAVE BEEN EARLIER I WAS 7 YEARS OLD AND HAD BEEN OUT SIDE PLAYING AND CAME IN THE HOUSE AND AND DARK SHADOWS WAS JUST COMING ON MY MOM AND HER SISTERS AND MY GRANDMA WERE WATCHING IT AND I STARTED WATCHING IT WITH THEM I WAS 7 YEARS OLD I'VE LOVED DARK SHADOWS EVER SINCE. I STILL WATCH IT ON THE DECADES CHANNEL HERE IN EAST TENNESSEE,THE DECADES CHANNEL IS 68.10 AND COMES ON AT 5:AM I'M RETIRED NOW AND SOMETIMES I WILL WAKE UP AT 5 OR STAY UP AND WATCH IT.
I didn’t exist back when dark shadows aired but I heard about the show from my dad and found it on Amazon prime a this year. Already watched all the episodes and now rewatching Barnabas episodes again. Jonathan has become my most favorite actor of all time.
I'm very happy that you have discovered DS and that you are still watching it after finishing all of the episodes. The Collins family kind of lures the viewer in and the viewer actually becomes a member of that lovable, spooky family!
Dark Shadows Phenomenon!! Loved the Character Barnabas ever since I was in grade school. Used to rush home from school and would watch Intently for 30 min. OH, how I loved this show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Island Girl Me Too
I did the same.
I had a 8 block walk and tried to never be late for Dark Shadows :)
He was an incredibly rare man - genuinely real, genuinely gentlemanly, well read, and classy as you could get - yet still humble. This is what people should be.
I attended two "Dark Shadows" conventions in Newark, N.J. many years ago and at one of them on either the Friday or Saturday night of the 3-day "Dark Shadows" Festival, I was sitting in the TV room at the hotel (it may have been the Ramada Inn) on Raymond Boulevard in Newark where the festival was being held and in the room where the Festival staff were showing episodes of "Dark Shadows" on a VCR connected to a TV set at the front of the room, at one point I turned around to my left and saw Jonathan Frid standing in the doorway to the room talking quietly to someone. I realized that as much as I wanted to get up from my seat at the front of the room and go over to talk to him to tell him how much I loved "Dark Shadows" and his performances as Barnabas Collins in the show, if I did that then everyone in the room would turn around and see him standing there and would also get up to go over to meet him and talk to him, and I realized that he undoubtedly experiences that so often when fans crowd around him for autographs that he might find it a bit annoying, so I decided to remain seated so as not to disturb him.
He was walking with his wolfs head cane that barnabas used....
there were a few or more, same with the ring.
First thing I noticed! So glad DS is on p!uto and tubi... I missed so much as a kid.
The cane he used was a copy of the original from the same cane manufacturer. After Dark Shadows ended it went into syndication. Frid was asked to promote the reruns of the show being shown in Spanish in the early 1970s around 1973
The studio gave him the new cane for his tour of some Latin American cities in South America. The show's reruns in some Latin American countries or cities were being shown in Spanish but Frid did not speak Spanish and no he did not do the dubbing. He kept that cane until his death. A die hard , hardcore DS fan talked Frid's relatives into selling him Frid's cane. Frid had given his Barnabas ring and cloak to his friend and former secretary Nancy Brown but in the end material things were not sentimental to her and she tossed out both the ring and his cloak many years later. Sadly, had she only known their value , his ring and cloak could have sold for thousands of dollars to be donated to the AIDS charity that he supported. Unbelievable that she tossed out his ring and cloak but she was not a fan of the show and didnt realize how iconic those things were :(
May he rest in peace. Sweet man.
He sure is. So lucky for the people who were there that day.
remarkable Jonathan
Frid did well in all and
what more can you ask for. RIP
Thank you for sharing this. I am rewatching the TV series at age 66 and am loving it even more than I did was I was a young kid running home from school to watch my beloved Barnabas. What a charming and intelligent man (much like Barnabas) and what wonderful, dedicated fans.
I did the same to the point of telling the bus driver to please hurry lol. It was a part of my world!!!
I am currently binge watching every episode and have been for a couple of months. This show brought me so much joy, intrigue and fear in my childhood. I adored this show and Jonathan Frid. I am sorry I never had a chance to meet this wonderfully kind man. Thank you Mr. Frid for your wonderful contributions that will be cherished for a lifetime. May you rest well dear sir.
So great rip Jonathan with much love
He was my favorite vampire Jonathan Frid was excellent
Brilliant Actor and Forever Iconic Character
Love him in any character
I met Jonathan in New York. He is a sweetheart 💟 Always will be a love
Jonathan's reaction to seeing the clip of Angelique putting the curse on Barnabas was funny
Lara carried such demanding intensity in everything she did in anger towards Barnabas. No other woman has ever been able to convey the precise anger she could play in her acts.
@@philipancell516 She always got under his skin. drove him crazy.
@@marilynwillett804 she was the champion 🏆 of that!! LOL
She scared me and I knew it was just TV script!!
Barnabas was a cool vampirejuila hoffman really was the woman who.loves him
Very classy and such a great masterpiece. At every step of the way, as from the beginning to the end, Jonathan Frid shows off of how great he has been in every way, and at all times he has been.
Watched faithfully all the while it was on TV!!! Would rush home from HS to watch!!!! Loved it !!! Then had gotten VHS tapes of the shows!!! RIP Johnathan!!✝️✝️✝️🙏🙏🙏 When first one was in Black & White !!! Color came later!!!
I l9ve him and Dark Shadows. I was only 10 but have been a fan for 58 years. I want that cane toi...
I love Johnathan Frid. BARNABUS COLLINS. He was and is still the best actor and best Vampire role. I am a true Dark Shadows Fan . At 64 yrs young I still like the episodes. From day one of its arrival to the very last episode I was there glued to the TV screen for 30minutes Monday thru Friday. Could not wait to get home to watch Dark Shadows. Still #1 series. Still #1. God bless you all. I love you.
63 hereand me as well. Didnt miss a show.
Thank you so much, Guy, for sharing this wonderful session with Mr. Frid. Enjoyed it very much. Happy to see he returned to the Fests in his later years. Only wish I could have been there too.
Marcia Mornay You're welcome, Marcia. Thanks for your kind comments!
R I P dear Jonathan We love you W e miss you deeply ! You were a smart handsome sweet ,man !
he was much deeper than people understand.
+Marilyn Willett even in his older age he commented that he still didn't quite understand what fans loved or saw in Barnabas character to have massed such a fan following.
Yes I know, I also cannot explain the hold he has over me. Surely there are men more handsome, even scarier, who I was never attracted to.
I always thought Barnabus Collins was very handsome. He was so articulate and poised, he was my very first crush!
He was also much gayer than people realize.
@@HottieBugatti a gentleman. Love barnabas and josette!❤
Jonathan Frid was always a class act. Pure class.
I was 7 when I saw the first season of Dark Shadows. I was terrified of Barnabas and so I couldn’t watch anymore. But seeing him here and being such a nice man, I apologize that I was scared of him. He was that good.
I love Dark Shadows Way Back When and Now. It feels so cozy to lay back in bed at night and watch Johnathan Frid do his thing. The Collins will always be favored as the best Soap, Ever! Barnabas Collin's was the sht!
What great actor cause had to remember so much dialog. The man had lot respponsibillity. Gave so much joy. He was my i d ol as child. Great. Person .
Love this video of Jonathan by Guy Haines of the 2009 DARK SHADOWS Festival!
Actor Johnny Depp was a big time fan of Dark Shadows and of Frid as well. How cool is that. Johnny Depp, Michele Pfieffer and Alice Cooper , Tim Burton, artist Andy Warhol, actress Whoopi Goldberg, Film Director Quentin Tarrentino were all fans of the show esp when aired in reruns on the Sci Fi channel
@@thejupiter2574 yeah so cool Alice Cooper was and then he was in the movie and so is Johnny Depp and Michelle Pfeiffer
and they were all original fans of the show too as well as Tim Burton.
And to shows how great he was, comes to be in been proficient, prominent, intelligent, well educated, been sensational, shows how outstanding he shows off, always has class, and of him is been professional.
my god, I can't believe they couldn't find him a better chair than that bench. geez. I wouldn't even want to trust that and five hundred years younger than he looks.
Wonderful opportunity! Can they not stop taking photographs!!
R.I.P. Mr. Frid, you are greatly missed.
I loved this show, use to run home from school as fast as I could, and glue myself to the TV. I really love Barnabas and I had a crush on Quinton🧛🏻♂️🌙🕯⚰️🩸🪦🌞🌒
I was there that day with my children. What a great day we had!!
RIP jonthan frid 💖 , no matter what happens you will always be my Barnabas Collins
Lara Parker (RIP). One of my first true TV crushes when I was 12.
Absolutely 💯 priceless! There will only be one Barnabus Collins and that is Jonathon Frid❤ Love his signature cane! R.I.P. Jonathon!
Hope he had a good life. I was absolutely crushing on him. My first "ZING".
😆
Absolutely a gem of a human being enjoyed every minute.
1,500 fan letters a day for him. Wow.
My mom was eight years old when she would go home from school to watch the new episode that would air during the week. I remember even watching reruns of the show when I was a little girl.. and I also remember each episode (the black & white episodes) was taped on a VHS.
At 24 years old, I discovered this show again.. and I’m very glad that I did.
Lol I’m 38 n I had that same experience with my mum years ago. It’s always a part of my life.
Love Dark Shadows.Reallybig fan.Barnabas Collins, definitely a legend.
Thank you NJ for being so kind to Jonathan Frid and Dark Shadows.
I absolutely enjoyed this!! I had planned to go to some of these get togethers but someway my health wasn't good enough to go. Loved every single actor ❤ Especially Lara Parker and Jonathan Frid!!!! I'm still a devout fan of Laras!!! Much love to you Lara if you read these!!!
Dark shadows is in on Prime Video for free with ads. All Seasons. I have been watching them refreshing my teenager years.
ALSO Tubi TV website has all 'five' years of the Dark Shadows reruns. No membership required. The listing for Dark Shadows on Tubi TV starts with "Dark Shadows The Beginning" which includes the first year of the show before the vampire arrives.
There should've been better seating for super Senior Star......a ramp and a table with water. But that's Newark I guess. Venue management dropped the ball. I'm glad that this was saved ..and viewable....since I used to rush home at 4pm to see Dark Shadows.
yes that is so low class, NEW jERSEY
Yes - that was totally inconsiderate of them; this dear, precious man Jonathan Frid deserved MUCH better!
@@TakersMissy He sure did.
A vampire does not need special seating dumbass because he's pretending he's old. Once he gets the fresh blood yes you are younger again. He will never rest in peace never rest in peace. For all the lives he killed
He got over there and sat down good. He's a spry old dude, love him! See the way he was twirling his cane? 😆 Funny guy, bless him!
Thanks u
Its so hard to see him like this, he was just a vibrant actor. Yeah couldnt they get him a better chair or something gosh.
Agree
He needed a throne. Honestly. He was royalty. He was humble tho, so he just went with it. He was just grateful people cared. That’s a man. He will always be the mark of what a true dream man is.
A stool and a lectern? Puhleez! Yeah, give the poor man an easy chair, he could hold the notes in his lap.
All due respect to Bela Lugosi, there is only ONE vampire, and you are looking at him. No equal. No one will ever play a vampire like that again. That is Frid's legacy.
Let's just say Bela is the movie version. Frid is the TV version. Still, Barney has one cool personality.
Frank Langella (spelling??) Dracula 1984 is excellent also. Very sexy. My two favorite gentlemen.
Wonderful and great man really miss you thank you for your presence in the world.
As a high school teen addicted still am at 66 vampire classic
Me too!
cry that jon spent so much time with fans like the rest of the actors on dark shadows.
if they ever do another movie should be clips from the original; series. no one could act that good again in the future or write that good!
I was an avid fan of Dark Shadows. I was in the last part of Junior High School. My girlfriend and I would go straight to her house just in time for the beginning title and credits. Both of us were in our theater classes and not only did we appreciate the storylines, but we also caught all the gaffs and bloopers. Even so, it was a remarkable show. The standard 'soap opera' fare was smashed when Dark Shadows came on the air.
I always wanted a pare
Of those fangs.
That iconic cane of his.
That cane he’s holding. Is that the original Barnabas Collins cane?!
No, but it is exactly like the one used on the show. It was his own personal cane!
I miss Jonathan may he rest in peace with Laura and Grayson
Barnabas and josette ..forever❤
Frid said it was never camp to him, the audience laughs at everything and even though the fake bat was a bit much; it was not a comedy routine to him.
I went to a DS Convention in Brooklyn, NY at the Marriott Hotel, and while all of the fans were inside with the other DS actors, I was in a huge area outside where I saw 2 ppl helping an elderly Jonathan Frid to enter in, and I was so excited to be the first person to see him and I would have had him all to myself, but out of respect, I did not disturb Him 🌹 but watched as they took him inside. I was in so much awe, I even forgot to take a picture of him or to even ask. I regret to this day that I gave up that chance to meet him in person, but also feel proud that I controlled any selfish feelings and respected the Man and not disturb Him. He was very frail. Do you think I did the right thing?
You did the right thing. Thank you. In his last days, he was not the friendliest. Read my article in Scary Monsters magazine #98.
yes. I am sure he was aware of your presence and the respect you showed to him did not go unnoticed. You are all very lucky to be able to attend. Living in a No Cable area, once it left us in 1971 it as gone but Never forgotten. I discovered DS in '66, I was 6 years old and home from school with one of my horrific bloody-noses. I thought initially it was on closer to lunchtime then wisely moved to an after school time slot. Either way when news came out about its being cancelled lots of kids, some I didn't know, kept prompting me to "do something" you have to stop them"...... I was confused about all of this; until I found out in the '80's I was referred to as the "Vampire Child". It hurt at first. Now I'd call it a badge of honor
I love your loyalty to the show and I'm sorry you were in a no cable area. I was only able to attend bcz I live in the NYC area. If not, I would not have been able to fly somewhere to see them. I was blessed to be able to go. I hope that you are somehow able to watch the show now and relive your beautiful memories. Cheers❣️
How can I get to read your article? You can join my DS Group if you like, and post it there. DARK SHADOWS LOVERS. Thanks for replying☺️
All those flashbulbs. So rude. Couldn’t they have waited?
R I P Jonathan ! You are the best !
I can't watch this for the damned flash bulbs.
Enjoyed the Johnathan Frid interveiw- except the sound was "lacking" Then had to stop watching when someone saidthe dreaded words "I ran home from school to watch Dark Shadows" Oh my god ! heard that sentence 2 thousand times!!!!!
Great compilation!!!!!
Could have given him a comfy arm chair.
Great video he sure was a kind man. Thanks for uploading and sharing. They sure could have gave him a more comfortable seat. In 1966 when it first aired I was 3. Wow I feel old. I have the complete set it is in a coffin and when you open it the DVD's are lined up and it makes a picture of Barnabas it's so cool.. those of you who are watching this still today. How did you feel about the movie Johnny Depp did? I liked it. I like how they had him wake up in modern times and showing how he reacted to that time. How could six people not like this? When he was talking I could hear the clicking going on it was the camera going from one picture to another. At that time when you had film the top of your camera would show you how much film you have left by the picture you were on. It was a number dial and there was flash bulbs those were the good old days.
True
How bad i wanted the set. I'm sure it isn't available now.
The questions from the audience at the end were atrocious.
I agree people are dumb
I found myself so overwhelmed by the actor’s sheer strength as he portrayed Barnabus Collins. He is nothing in person like Collins. He even faked his English accent. He sounds so American with a bit of a southern draw. I know he hails from Canada, but boy, was I fooled. He really undertook a total character transformation.
I had him all over my walls when I was 12. Mother never understood.
Yeah
You had the perfect role model. She would be impressed if she had known.
Oh man I did too. I drove my parents nuts lol
A marvelous, very well qualified and brilliant actor of shakespearean class…the great Jonathan Frid! 😊👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍😉
I was there in 2009 with my children. It was so great to see him!!
What a sweetie he was.
+Matilda Woodhouse
love him so very much.
Marilyn Willett
I am fond of him myself- he was a great man.
I met him several times and I was always amazed at how very very 'patient' warm and gracious he was with hundreds of fans who all wanted one on one time and attention from this poor guy. He was always overwhelmed and surrounded by fans at the conventions. They even followed him into the lobby and down the halls, tried to join him in the hotel bars and restaurant. They all wanted time with him. I only only ever saw him get annoyed with those fans who called him Barnabas and who addressed him as Barnabas, those fans who thought that he was just like his character which he was not.
@@thejupiter2574 Well, that proves it then, in a way people wanted time with BARNABAS, not Frid. He shouldn't have been annoyed, in our minds and hearts we adopted Barnabas.
memorable recuerdo
Truth
My favorite vampire. The reluctant vampire… who repeatedly choked Julia, bit Maggie and beat Willie with his cane! A timeless classic
Great guy, but I had to stop watching not even 3 minutes into it because the flashing was hurting my eyes.
This was wonderful!
Thank you!
(Hopefully, the terrible sound quality can be improved at some point.)
seeing this is really sad the way he struggles to get up on stage like that very upsetting he died like 3 years later he was the only true barnabas not ben cross or johnny depp they couldn't carry frids cain. rip jonathan frid may god rest your soul twice a day
I WOULD LOVED TO BE AN ACTRESS IN DARK SHADOWS!
Im surprised he didnt show any scenes with KLS
I always love watching these "fan" reunions, whenever I see dramatic moments of the show mocked with the laughter of the idiot attendees. That's how you know the difference between someone spoiled by today's garbage that passes itself off as entertainment, and the true fans from back in the day, who know how to suspend disbelief in the name of drama.
Soooo true
THEY CERTAINLY DID SEEM TO BE ATTENDED BY FOOLS. I hate when they laugh constantly, it was never meant to be laughed at. Frid and the others poured their all into it.
Q gran actor!! Yo lo veía me acuerdo era muy chica y me producía mucho miedo! Pero q gran actor!!
In his later years, Frid walked with difficulty and had to use a cane.
OH he has the cane!...LOVE IT😂
Different one. Same type tho
I loved his scenes with Julia Hoffman.
They truly loved each other, even as actors.
Grayson Hall was a hoot.
rip sir
It’s a shame people are taking flash pictures of him- especially after he mentioned something about the lights flashing.
Julia Hoffman looked exactly like mom’s mom.
Rip b
What's with the flashing?
+BellatrixRox16 People were taking photographs!
What the Devil is the problem with the sound?!?!
The audio back then was horrendous !!
I so love this and we all love you barnabas collins ❤keep flying high jonathan ❤
Mr. Frid is a legend. Without his vampire there would have been no Buffy, Angel, True Blood or Twilight. Ripe with potential queer readings, Barnabas lent both meaning and understanding to to my early gay life in the 1980s. His aloneness lessened mine and his deeply problematic relationship to desire enabled me to overcome the constraints imposed upon my own lust for life.Thank you Mr. Frid. Without you I would not be me. And to end on a lighter note: " The blood is the life."
The blood of Jesus Christ is the blood that saves, Eternal life.
@Kevin Layland You are not alone. There are literally hundreds of Gay / LGBTQ+ DS fans who identified with the tragic characters of Barnabas Collins and of Chris Jennings, tormented by their hidden secrets and identities and having to live in fear of rejection, hatred and of being exposed.
I wonder if he ever actually enjoyed one minute of that show or its success over the years? He always seemed so disdainful of it in interviews, embarrassed even (that mocking "Gee whiz"). Even at these events he seems to attend only grudgingly. Not a criticism at all - he felt what he felt - but it's kind of sad really that he didn't just have more fun with it
so true
It was a job he did. Lots of people are not liking their jobs.
I was scared to death of Angelique before it was even cool!
You will never rest in peace. Because he is a real vampire in real life. Do you got to have that blood Halloween he comes alive
