    Mabel is a spoiled rotten house pig, and she sleeps in the bed with her humans, which means that she requires a bath from time to time as she does not live outside like most pigs.
    Mabels owners are on a mission to educate people on how to care for their pot belly pig, and bring awareness to dishonest breeders who lie about selling "mini pigs." Although they bathe their pig at home, it has become increasingly difficult to due her size. That's where I came in. Her owner Maddy is a registered Veterinary Assistant, and she has dreams of one day opening an animal sanctuary specifically for, but not limitted to, abandoned pigs, and I hope her dreams come true! Please subscribe to her channel below and help her reach her goal. No hogs were harmed in the making of this video, only pampered ❤

    My neighbors had a potbelly pig that looked just like Mabel. His name was Cledus and he was awesome. He escaped one day and found his way into my backyard where my 500+ lb Hereford x Landrace sow lived. It was love at first sight! From that day forward, he would find a way to escape his house at least once a week, trot the 1/2 mile to my house and we would find him outback serenading my big girl through the fence and rubbing noses. And when he was ready to go home he would just come headbutt my front door, I'd give him a treat and then walk him back to his place. This went on for almost 2 years before my old girl passed away. He would still come visit whenever he could. He would go to her old pen, sit quietly for a bit and then come get me and we would hang out for awhile before I brought him home. He just passed away last year and I miss him as if he were my own.

      @@hoppytoad79 at first they were super apologetic. It took me about half an hour to get them to understand that I loved having him come visit and that it really wasn't a problem. It got to the point after a couple of months that they would either text me "Incoming" if he got out or I would text them to let them know he was at my place if they didn't realize he had pulled a Houdini. It just became a normal thing and both piggies were happier with a friend. So it worked out.

    Important to note about anyone considering getting a pig as a pet: there is no such thing as a mini, teacup, or pocket pig. All pigs grow to enormous size. Don't get one thinking it will stay tiny and cute; it will not.

    • @gator5081
      @gator5081 2 роки тому +1669

      Friend of mine found that out the hard way. He bought a potbelly pig about the size of a large puppy. Isn't that cute? Ten years later you could have used that pig's back as a pool table and he was literally strong enough that an adult could ride him. IF you could stay on, because he didn't like it much

    • @Liavfaer
      @Liavfaer 2 роки тому +1283

      Just to add on, when people sell mini, teacup, or pocket pigs, the pigs are often underfed to make them look smaller.

    • @helentee9863
      @helentee9863 2 роки тому +384

      Yes although size in pigs does vary according to breed. It has nothing to do with them being fed food laced with growth supplements, as someone who knew nothing about pigs once insisted to me.
      What growth supplements do in commercial pig breeding is cause a growth spurt before puberty so when the pig is killed it's obtained maximum weight in the shortest time period .
      Male pigs can also get a lot bigger than female, so anyone getting a pig needs to remember that.

      Well, grooming an indoor pet pig makes sense, even if it’s way out of the ordinary. She may not be coating her skin with mud like pigs kept with outdoor access, but that skin still produces oils, and needs maintenance to keep her snuggle-worthy inside a home. A friend who is a professional groomer mentioned the skin oils were pretty similar to those in Chesapeake Bay Retrievers; it protects the skin and pretty much keeps them waterproof. However, the oils do build up, and aren’t exactly what owners want their dogs to rub on their carpeting and furniture, so the “keep them civilized for indoors,” baths are necessary.

    Pig owner here. Imagine you have a 3 year child, who also has the strength of a 250lbs man, who is also drunk. That's what owning a pig of even this size is like. They can destroy basically anything, they are scary smart, they can hold a grudge and they are extremely food oriented. Infact, if your pig is _ever_ not interested in food, you have a broken pig.
    Pigs trotters are not good normally on hardwood floors, you should provide a carpet for them to walk on, if they become spooked(which happens easily) or they step wrong, they can seriously hurt their leg on a slick floor.

Just provided it with a pool of clean waters an hot days of summer and it would bath itself quite effectively. In there natural environments pigs are amounts the cleanest animals as they spend a lot of there time keeping cool in water. This is because they do not sweat to keep cool like humans do and there large size makes their bodies good insulators. They need pools of water to keep cool in summer, which are not provided by farmers. In the absence of this, they will use whatever is wet a substitute. On farms, the only sources available to them is their own urine, feces and mud, giving them a reputation of being dirty. Our pig always had a clean pool to hang out in where it spent more then half the day.

It was initially there to eat up all the food waste left by the other animals as some were sloppy eaters. Anyways, its house was not like a dog house but more like a barn. It wasn't an indoor pig as we only thought of it as a pet after a few years do to it being very sociable. The house we had for it was heated to a comfortable temperature and it did not need or want to be in water in those conditions. It left its area very clean, didn't poop or pee inside it's living space. It would go outside to do it's business in winter but was otherwise in its house. During summer it would only sleep there and would spend the rest of the day outside, mostly in or around the pond.

    Many years ago I had a neighbor with a pot bellied pig, she was out one day with big who was enjoying acorns that my small tree had spread around. It amazed me that she had no problems crushing them for food but the real show was my cat. He walked about to join me and when the pig squealed, Leo stopped in mid track one paw still in the air and just stared. It is amazing how long a cat's neck can stretch so they can sniff something they have never seen before. The pig didn't object just continued eating. Eventually Leo decided he didn't care for this and slowly carefully walked away. The pig just kept digging up acorns and eating.

      @@diakydiaz It was very close to that. He stood there, three legged, for the longest time. The neighbor and I watched slightly laughing as Leo, a lion brown indoor/outdoor hunter type cat, carefully watched, sniffed and gently prodded the pig with one light paw touch. The pig squealed a little bit and Leo backed up a bit circling around and in typical feline grace did two quick bounces to put some distance. The decided to walk away with the usual grace of his kind. They never met again. I really don't know if Leo, a true hunter, was thinking is this a weird dog certainly not a cat, must be a weird dog OR was he thinking what does this thing taste like. Leo was that kind of cat.

She could run up and down the stairs no issue and would give a short squeel at the base of the stairs if she needed out to do her business. I will however suggest if you get one, make sure that in the fall if you have crab apple trees, to not miss picking any up LOL it was late winter/early spring at the time and she managed to find the rotting/fermenting apples under the snow and ate them, and I can promise you an annoyed drunk pig is not as cute as it sounds.

      I had an indoor potbelly and raised outdoor ones from babies for the majority of my teen years, and all of them slept in my bed with me at various times in my life. They generally sleep through the night. My indoor pig (Percy) was very polite and waited until someone let him out to pee, or the dogs went to pee, so there wasn't even any issues with him going potty in the house. Some of the pigs would use a doggy pad during the night, but absolutely none of them would just randomly squeal. They only make those noises when being messed with in any way, though if they still have their feet on the ground, they may just whine at you lol.

    Omg I saw the preview for this on your Insta and lemme just say I am now in love with Mabel’s colorful mohawk
    Also an interesting thing to note is that pigs are actually much cleaner than people realize! The reason they roll around in mud, for instance, isn’t because they want to get dirty-pigs lack sweat glands, so they do this order to stay cool and prevent themselves from getting sunburned. In fact, most pigs will refuse to defecate anywhere _near_ their eating and living areas! Plus, there are even instances of wild boars bringing chunks of food to small streams and sloshing it around to clean it-meaning they know if their food is dirty and will refuse to eat it until they clean it! Just a little debunking on some misconceptions about pigs lol.

      I don't listen to that music genre, but reading your comment, I remembered I've heard that sound coming from the vocalist of a Christian metal band (I had no idea that was a thing) and a great one too. 😃
      Their bass player is the trainer in charge at the gym I go to and he showed me videos of them playing. I was shocked at how good it sounded, because he did it as a way to emphasize certain Biblical verses and the technique he used sounded ultra polished.
      EDIT: I cared for a humongous pig at a rehab center I spent a year in. She had blue eyes and long, blonde eye lashes. I was scared of it when feeding her until I decided to get experimental and give her a belly rub from afar.
      She started squinting her eyes and twitching her hind legs. Without warning, she let herself go and immediately plopped on her side so I could have easier access to her belly.
      We became good buddies, so I named her Kathy. Months later some dude came in the morning and slaughtered her. Turns out she was there just to be fed as a Christmas pork.
      They put her cuts in a large freezer in our kitchen. I refused to eat anything but chicken from that day on, and we had egg-laying hens but we only ate their eggs, not them.
      Kathy was the nicest pig I've ever met. 😪
