Being recently a dad, I can relate to having fewer time to practice and being more focused on the quality of your spent time. Sometimes 15 minutes is enough to make progress when you have a plan. Thanks for sharing your knowledge David!
This is very good. From a UA-cam colleague of you I saved a video that perfectly fits your setup for a work plan. It is a series of licks making up a complete blues solo. Each part of about 4 - 8 beats is quite simple. Well I made it my objective to learn this until I can play it as well as this teacher. I can go stepwise from lick to lick. I experienced immediately that this falls under technique development. I move on to the next step if the previous one sits more or less. More licks together is a learning step as well. Meanwhile, repeatedly practicing this way, I have ample time to analyze the associated theory, which is pretty basic. Then the musicality: I start a different backing track to play along and try to incorporate those licks. The backing tracks have different sounds, rhythms and tempo’s.

Enjoy it while you can all you young ones. I ran out of minutes in the day years ago. I’m in the years I have left mode. My guitar collection is like old friends. We shoot the breeze for a few minutes over a beer and then fall asleep. Young guitarists are so fortunate today to have quality instruction like David’s with a key stroke.
