  • This was given to me many many moons ago in a place called Rutland by an ACA masterline member Graeme Pearson a well known Angler.
    He told me that the first time he saw someone fishing them at Grafham they were smashing fish after fish after fish, he was given three versions and this is what I call No1.... Fished as a pulling or fig o 8 cast on a intermediate or Sink Tip line they can be deadly, this is the Top Dropper one, but it coudl go anywhere on the cast..
    Hook: - Kamasan B175 Size 14-10 or Babrless Equivalent
    Thread: - Sheer 14/0 Black
    Tail/Body: - Veniards Pearl Lurex Fine for Tail Medium or Fine for Body
    Wing: - Sunburst Collection Black Velvet Marabou Tips
    The Wing has to be spiky and that means using the tips of the feathers that most people dont use, not you have something to use them with.
    Take Care and Wait on the No2 and No3 in the future, Tight Lines and Sharing is Caring
    Regards Dave

    Been studying history and form of fly and like this form you tied. Marabou seems logical for movement

    Might have emptied my fly tying bin after watching this. 😂 The amount of extra movement using the tip of the feather is exceptional. 10/10 top tip. 👍

      Yup as the way they were intended and not wasting any feather at all :)

    Liking all your videos, great tying and I really like the way you let us know where, when and how you caught your fish. It gives us 65 year olds who have retired and got back into fly fishing a wee bit of confidence. Thanks David.

    David, what type of vice do you use......

    • @TheDavedownie
      @TheDavedownie  3 роки тому

      Dyna King Im afraid always , I really am not intrested in vices with all the bells and whistle. I like the hook to be held properly and the hook to be the highest thing. Vices that go down and then back up I dont like, plenty of clearance if that all makes sense :) I have a Dyna King Squire x 2 and I have the bigger brother one now the supreme

    Why use the tips Dave I always imagined there would be less movement in the tips

    • @TheDavedownie
      @TheDavedownie  4 роки тому

      they are supposed to be spiky one tip gives the spikyness but still allows movement if that makes sense they slim down when pulled then spread out in the pause.

    • @genehughes5036
