A quick video encouraging and explaining why you should start your GameDev UA-cam channel and tips on how you can get started!
Hi everyone! Over the last 12 months, I have come to the realization of just how important building a community can be. On January 1st, 2020, I released the first trailer for a game I was working on. The trailer was seen by family and friends but had little reach beyond that.
I wasn't far into development, but I thought to myself "Imagine working on a game for a year (or even longer), releasing something that I'm proud of, and then nobody plays it!" That thought was one of the main motivators for me to start my own youtube channel.
I think that by releasing tutorials, devlogs, game jam videos, etc... By putting ourselves "out-there": we can significantly increase the interest and reach for our future projects!
So here's me encouraging you again: Start your own youtube channel! Put yourself out there and share with the world what you want to make!
You can do it!
Also -- Feel free to watch the non-tutorial videos at 1.25x speed! That's how I watch all of my videos.

I had a similar experience this year releasing a trailer into the void. I shared it all across Facebook, Twitter, and numerous Subreddits, for a grand total of 22 views. So yeah, building a community is definitely important. I've been thinking about making videos and streaming, and I think this video's convinced me! Love your positive vibes dude.
Nice! I'm watching this 2023, just started my unity gamedev channel.
Same here!
Very wise advice Nicky, thanks for sharing :)
There are very few things I would say that the Army does correctly, but the way they train you is excellent. They force the concept of ' learn it, do it, teach it'.. The idea being that you never really understand something until you are able to teach it to others... and the best way to really learn something is to be in a situation where you know soon you are going to be forced to teach it....
Love your videos Nicky! Thank you for the tips. Top quality advice as usual.
Again, very nicely done. Engaging, informative, well-presented, and "professional but friendly and not too dry". Love the summaries throughout, they really help keep the focus on the points you're trying to make (and prevent the viewer's attention from wandering away).
As my tech-pubs writing teacher in college used to say:
"First you tells them what you're gonna tell them."
"Then you tells them."
"Then you tells them what you told them."
Still loving the line from your other vid: "The only way you don't become an Engineer, is if you stop trying." Words to live by, and very true for game-dev or any other endeavor in life.
Good luck on your channel!
Thumbs up!
*spits out coffee* How did you know what I was doing? lol
Your videos are very helpful it clearly explains everything about unity's animation system.
Keep going
Very encouraging video. I have been hesitant to start a devlog because I don't have much video editing experience. But I know NEED to. I'm gonna do it for sure. Thanks!
I have started my game dev youtube channel in summer and recently released a game. I've documented the entire progress of making this game on my channel and it is so helpful to get feedback from fellow developers. The game would've turned out completely different, if I haven't gotten this feedback. Making videos is a lot of fun, sometimes it can be hard, but just keep doing what you love and you'll be rewarded! Thanks for the tips :-)
You are the best, Nicky. Congrats
Liked your video even before it starts, As usual😆😆😆
i really love your tutorials which details and easy to understand
Hey Nicky, I gotta say, you have really great channel. I watched the first couple of tutorials for animations in unity and they were really well made. Good, precise explanations, good audio, good visual editing, good speed, not to fast and not to slow, very nice and pleasant background music and just a very well structured tutorial. Your interaction with your community looks great as well, you post on the social medias and you seem to read and answer most comments. That makes me feel that you really care and motivates me to also create more content for the world. I feel like we both have something in common, that is, making the best possible tutorial we can, applying all our knowledge in the topic and editing as good as we can. I especially like that you explain all the details of what we can see in the inspector, that is, every setting and drop down menu and so on. I'm currently finishing my bachelors in computer science and I'm working part time as a software developer, so in that regard, I believe that we learn things in similar way, that is, until we understand every single detail about it. So I just wanted to share that, give you some feedback and say hello. In case you ever want to learn to play the piano, I have some tutorials ready for you to watch as well :) Have a great day and stay healthy!
great vid nicky!
love your contents! please keep up the good work! :3
thanks man!
Guys don't trust the view count this video is awesome and very informative
thanks bro !!!
Really helpful video man! I've started my own channel focusing on tutorials as you did. But I've been kinda moving into the "entertainment" approach since I noticed the retention was pretty bad in my tutorials and much better in entertaining videos. However, I'm not so comfortable with this change. I feel like I can deliver more value to my audience with the tutorials, but my more entertaining videos are reaching more people so... I don't know. Trying to find the balance here. Appreciate your insights in this video. Thank you!
I have implemented the tips Nicky mention on the video, they actually works👍. Another tip: Enjoy the process / journey😁
This was a great watch! I need to stop hesitating and just get to creating videos. 💛
Go for it!!
Generally speaking it’s really good, creating own channel is fun and entertaining, I like doing this but also it’s really hard to get an audience 😥
Yeah, and it takes sooo much time and energy!
Not everyone is as good looking and eloquent
🤩
Soo satisfying...
Thanks for your advice, Nicky. Today I uploaded my first video as gamedev youtuber 🧩
The feedback is very useful as we make a game for the community.
@@iHeartGameDev thank u Nicky. For u as wel.
Something that noone mentions is that making videos is somehow similar to rubberduck debugging, explaining to someone else what you just learned helps you better understand the subject.
Hey, thank you for sharing your experience of starting game dev channels!
I'm wondering how do you balance the time spent on game dev and video editing? Do you often found yourself tight with your dev schedule because of video editing?
Looking forward to your reply!
@@iHeartGameDev Thanks for the reply!
Indeed teaching someone also makes you learn more about the subject you are teaching.
I'm still contemplating whether to build my own channel though, thanks a lot for this positive and informative video!
Wish you all the best with your game dev and channel!
Pretty awesome video! But man Nicky you are way too underrated! :D
Wait you are here too ?
Other critical tip is persist!

Great video, I wish there was video like this when I started UA-cam. One question your audio is so crisp do you dub you videos or have some kind of insane noise filtering system or tool
@@iHeartGameDev Thanks, I’m gonna try that on my next video
Wait @Tauheed Game Dev you are here ?
