Sabyasachi is basically one of the most coveted designers of India. I would say most Indian women dream of wearing a Sabyasachi lehenga/saree for their wedding. He is exactly what Vera Wang is for wedding gowns in the western countries.
my best friend is from India and she introduced me to Sabyasachi. I am *so* in love, the complexity and delicacy of the designs are truly stunning. I love scrolling through their social media to admire the embroidery and beadwork every so often 😂
I’m in the western world and I learnt about Sabyasachi when he did the collaboration with Christian Louboutin. They were gorgeous.
NO ONE HAS PUT IT SO ACCURATELY EVER
Not to mention Sari's were once worn without blouses, a little more exposed is a little more accurate to our history. Also, yes her sari is absolutely well draped in the traditional sense, with pleats and everything.
@@RealElongatedMuskrat ôoo ok iooo o o op poop lol poop lol poop poop poop poop poop 💩 oh
Just a fact about the sari, it actually didn’t start of as a “conservative” garment. In south India It wouldn’t be worn with a blouse, the bralette worn underneath. The material was just traditionally just draped around the body with nothing underneath it. Only when the British colonised India did they sexualise the sari and enforced women to cover themselves more. So from a traditional stand point Deepika with the minimal blouse is closer to the roots of a sari.
I was gonna say that, thanks for this comment :)
Absolutely! 👏 This is an actual part of history not many know about. Indians originally didnt see the body as sexual, it was a natural thing like it should be
Thank you for educating me!
Absolutely and also the currently popular style of draping it was also created to emulate the silhouette of a gown the original styles of draping were far more practical and easy to carry .
Thanks for the info, it's interesting
I know for sure Anne Hathaway uses shit ton of sunscreen. The women is absolutely stunning!!
I’d love to know what sunscreen she wears with these expensive clothes that doesn’t get all over the clothes!!!
Probably doesn’t wear a lot on those special events
I think the original comment meant in day to day life she wears sunscreen, so that she can look good on the big day
@@kzvegansuperstar she said in an interview that she uses the la roche posay one

Haven't watched the video yet but I can bet Luke says CRAZY KOOKY OVER THE TOP at some stage
Now you got me looking for that moment
1:05:45
Is it though…is it though
The first mention was at 33:21 lol
Cannes is more sophisticated chic. Not crazy outfits. Luke kills IT. SPOT ON as usual.
I'm so glad Luke did this review. And i also enjoyed him trying to rationalize the profusion of hand embroidery on Deepika's sari. The thing is, hand embroidery and custom tailoring in general is largely accessible even to lower and mid-range customers in India. Especially with designers of Sabyasachi's calibre, it's really not unusual to see such dense and intricate hand embroidery all over the garments. So I'm pretty sure this isn't a trompe l'oeil sari. It's an actual sari, properly draped. However, this sort of sari drape (it's called the Nivi drape) has almost two rounds of wrapping around the body. The innermost round is almost entirely hidden. So that part wouldn't be embroidered, not just to save costs but also to reduce bulk. But the pleated part in front-- I'm pretty sure that's entirely encrusted in sequins with no expense spared. And honestly, complexity wise, Sabyasachi churns out far more intricate, detailed embroidery than this. That's kind of what he is known for.
Side note: I was really hoping Luke would cover the Sabyasachi + Schiaparelli outfit that Natasha Poonawalla wore to the Met Gala. I thought it nailed the brief so it would've been cool to hear Luke's thoughts.

Thank you!
Thank you x
IU ?
Thank you!!
You missed out on Deepika Padukone's pearl saree finale look.
Exactly
I hope he does a part 2 so he can review that dress :O
That was the best one smdh
Praying for a Part 2.
that one was STUNNING!!! she looked so regal and elegant i loved it sm
Cannes is, IMO, the most interesting red carpet. Agree, Anne Hathaway stunning, but that dress Elle Fanning is wearing is the breath of Heaven - delicate, stunning, perfect.
Same, I love it. They all go BIG, the jewels come out. It’s a lot of fun.
I actually loved Deepika's saree look for the first ever time. That saree is just mmuuahhhhhhh. It's beautiful, it's elegant (which a saree always is!), it's sexy in the right amount of sensuality. And the jewelry that she paired with it is 😚. That's one beautiful overall look. Also many people have already mentioned it but I'd like to add again that saree is not a conservative garment. It doesn't sexualize us women, just make us feel like we are queens. That's just how it is.
I didn't know so many of my Indian brothers and sisters watch luke... Damn we winning... And ya i loved luke struggling to explain sari and butchering SABA YAA SA CHI
And deepika padukon-ay
@@ananyarayaprol Actually he said it correctly. That is how it is supposed to be said
Deepika's saree represented the colors and stripes of the Royal Bengal Tiger (the national animal of India)
ANNE HATHAWAY STOLE MY HEART. Sometimes less is more. Chic and elegant and absolutely stunning.
No man that saree is 100% covered in sequins, Sabyasachi's designs are nothing if not luxurious. And there is no 'norm' for draping a saree in India, you could get creative with it and no one will gawk, moreover, different regions in India have different ways of draping the saree, so everything goes...
People will give you shit if you do it in an unconventional way in everyday life though.
I don't understand how Chanel being one of the most luxurious and one of the most prestigious brand in the high end category can't make a custom look or reference the history of brand in a cool and appropriate manner for the carpet.
Like what are they doing going down i guess ↘️
Sabyasachi is one of my fav indian designers. thanks for covering him, he plays a lot on indian traditions and I believe this is a play on the bengal tiger's stripes and he is from the region of bengal and the tiger shows up in most of his works and even is a part of his logo which makes it even more interesting.
I swear Anne Hathaway and Paul Rudd have immortal genes, they just don’t age
That bow wrap on Anne Hathaway is literally JAW DROPPING! I absolutely NEED ONE!
Saree can be exposed, this saree reminds of 60s-70s "cocktail sarees" the saree is actually a very versatile garment, made for all occasions, of all fabrics, with whatever kind of blouse and draping you want to go with
rare compliment but that LG sponsorship you did amazing. i want that thing👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Kristen Stewart has been working hard on your channel for god knows how long. Working hard to always be on the worst dressed list. We stan a consistent queen.
they always do her so dirty. :(
It looked like a dripping diaoer
Not only is a baby bump super chic and limited edition, but it’s also the most expensive accessory! You pay for it for the rest of your life
It's the best part of the look. The rest was just unbalanced in my opinion. Not enhancing the accessory, but making it look weird.
@@AJansenNL I agree. It made her form look really odd? Idek how to describe it but she looked compressed. Also it looked like a cheap Star Wars costume. Loved that she showed off her bump though
So happy that you finally mention Michael Cinco’s creation. Proud Filipino. Thank you so much
I agree with you on Elle Fanning's dress, it's so beautiful without trying too hard. Elegant, well-crafted, flattering, delicate!

Go on Luke, getting that LG sponsorship! 👏
Haha, I watch all his sponsorship because he puts so much work in presenting it.
i have been waiting for your review for what seems like an eternity. thank you legend
Fun fact, my first ever crush was Anne Hathaway playing the White Queen in Alice in Wonderland, I'll never have to cringe thinking back about it, my taste was always on point ;)
I have a crush on every character from that film
Luke we need a part 2, there are so many other interesting looks that haven't been covered in this video.
NEED one just for IU's look
@@konyu IU's look is very generic + the color didn't help. But she's pretty
Yes! I want him to look at all of Sara Sampaio’s looks, Isabeli Fontana etc.
@@samhidalgo6271 color didn't match well with the undertone of her skin especially under some of the faultier lighting, but she rocked the simplicity and jewelry in comparison to other much flashier (dare I say tackier) fashion. I'd say we still very much should get a review from Luke - I'd love to hear what he thinks.
Deepika's makeup looked really patchy and not blended well. Her saree was stunning, considering it was from Sabyasachi. The graphic liner was a look for sure, overall it was definitely something to talk about.
Yes! I noticed how crusty her makeup looked in closeups! but the 2 sarees se wore were stunning
Really? Were you in her face?
Her makeup got better throughout the Festival! She was a Jury member, so was there on all days and her team did better each day :)
@@tonygarcia5197 yes actually. U can look at close ups on fan pages, google images, etc
This time her makeup wass weird no?
(Not talking about the liner, that was actually nice) but otherwise i don't know it did not have same finesses
You just cannot wish for "exciting" or "dramatic" looks in Cannes and be disappointed, because it's simply not what the European style is about. Its subtle, elegant, not too colorful and simply chic with a bit of sexiness here and there. That's what makes the Cannes red carpet so special and in my opinion the best-dressed red carpet in the world. In contrast to e.g. the Oscars noone really tries to overdo anything and as a result just looks stunning.
Yo we had Pakistani representation and designers this time too!! For the first time!! "JOYLAND" A feature film representing Pakistan trans and queer community not only premiered there but also won the jury prize. My bestie did the wardrobe for the film. Big ProUD.
Tilda Swinton: eternal androgynous heavenly diva.
I always die for her classiness.
Every time now, A Dior dress with a belt to accentuate the waist, I go like "Oh no"
As the days went on Depeeka came to slayyyyy! That red dress did not do her justice at Cannes this year. In fact, it gave me junior prom. I loved everything else.
Love your humour, honesty, knowledge
now I'm more than interested to know your opinion on the rest of Deepika's outfits
The closing ceremony white look was a DREAM
that white saree has been living in my mind rent free
I hope he does Part 2, there is the rest of Deepika’s looks - the Richard Quinn look she wore as well. Then all the looks from Amfar…
I can always tell when Luke likes an outfit when he smiles as he announces the designer. :)
You are a consummate spokesperson.... I love your style in selling for sponsors. I watch for the fashion commentary - I learn something every episode.
Thanks for a wonderfully entertaining, educational hour! Perfect!
Anne Hathaway looks gorgeous !! 😳
I feel like more of the outfits at Cannes could have matched the Met Gala theme than what we got.
Hell yes!!!! So they decided to be on theme a month later. 🤣
Wow! That Deepika sequins dress was insane. I truly can’t imagine how much work went into creating that dress. Absolutely stunning.
Wow! Thank you , Luke. What a gorgeous red carpet! Gorgeous!
BTW, Luke , you also look awesome. Love 🖤
The textural contrast between the 2 components of Anne Hathaway’s gown is da bomb!
Watching luke try to deconstruct a saree was actually so fun usually people are very confused and dont have enough time or interst in understanding its beauty 😄 Also luke if you are interested hmu on insta I can educate you on everything I know about indian clothing , hand embellished and handwoven textiles
I say you make videos and educate us Indians too because there’s a lot of us who don’t know about all this (even tho we are Indian and Im a woman who is clueless tbh) will definitely subscribe and follow you!
@@sainianand5930 im too lazy but I need to start doing that . Thank you for the encouragement .
Please do. It's really hard to find useful information about Indian clothing. Even an ig page will do
Love the looks from Cannes this year! And I also love your psychic abilities for predicting future red carpet looks hahaha. Please do a Michael Cinco video! I love his gowns ❤️
Michael Cinco's gown stole the show. It is so unusual and striking. It's like ASMR neon pattern. Love it! Stunning design.
totally agreed.
I still remember his stunning blue Cinderella like gown that was also worn at the Cannes a couple of years ago.
@@blackcat6508 he is able to take a traditional gown but make it striking. He has the ablility to balance classic and contemporary in one dress. He offered something new, something I hadn't seen before with the neon and black gown. I'm really impressed.
I think Kristen Stewart's look would have worked had she done a fitted high waisted skirt - perhaps in leather - with embroidery that references the top
Cannes red carpet so much more stylish than the vulgar circus that was the met gala.
GOD, the Michael Cinco dress is so nice, I love his work, he always knows how to make his clients look stunning.
Luke I'm so happy for you! I feel like Cannes is giving you what you have been waiting for all year. By the way, I find nothing wrong with having so much admiration for another cultures style that a designer wants to incorporate it into their designs. I wish every designer would do it because there is so much beauty all over this world that should be shared and I believe admiration is the beginning understanding. Also I'd like to say if fashion is beautiful then the year, decade, or century shouldn't keep us from wearing what we love.
okay but the sponsorship portion was…impeccable…i need one of those damn projectors now
You called her father time and baby new year, so I'm dead. The two looks before her were fabooshboosh. She's a dream, that Hathaway girl. Good show!!! Can't wait for the rest...
Luke do a part 2 please
I would to hear you talking about Sara’s Sampaio look
Love your narrative - you make it such fun.
oh if only Luke could see every saree clad young woman clicking graduation photos on a green lawn, he'd never think partly exposing the blouse (bralette) is a Cannes red carpet innovation 🤣
Saw Deepika Padukone in the thumbnail and rusheddddd to watch the video
Anne Hathaway, Elle Fanning and diana Kruger were simple yet stunning
My top 3 picks as well. Everything about them worked
I just love you! You’re precious. My mother and I sit and watch you and we get so cracked up at your facial expressions. 💕
I agree with the Isabella Huppert heel situation, it does look strange and it takes away from the sleekness of the design.
When you said Finn Wolfhard’s jumpsuit could have been stranger I was like yeah I’ve seen people wear stranger things lmao
🤣🤣🤣 and what is with the way out there wander! Tuck Finn Tuck.
Wanger
They dress that Elle Fanning wore!!!! A Dream Princess Dress!!!!🍡💕🤍
About the saree...exposed shoulders are still quite tame as sexy saree draping is usually done with completely exposed midriff 'n navel, either with a sheer saree fabric or with some clever narrow draping style.
The styling of blouses are usually were all the creativity and versatility flows. She probably went for the bralettte to balance the heavy feeling of the draping style and busy design of the fabric.
Eventhough saree is an ethnic outfit, it's cannot be boxed as 'conservative', because it's so incredibly versatile and we style it for ceremonial, formal, professional, urban...for any event.
Some formal styling is done with modest vest, jackets, formal blouses, party wear sarees with sexy blouses, crop tops, belts, belt cut outs, different draping styles, urban casual styling with with demin jackets, fun vests, boots and sneakers.
Saree is so versatile that it can be a MET theme by itself.
How about video reacting to different saree looks?
Im not Indian but would love to see it!
RE the Anne Hathaway shrug and dress - it’s like it’s giving the square-sequin dress a backdrop, it’s own ‘red carpet’ or curtain. Very clever
I feel like Elle Fanning's dress might be a reference to Monroe's happy birthday dress (referring to the matching skin tone to dress color, the embellishments, and the nearly identical waist lines). It would be interesting to find out whether or not this is a much more classy and ethical way of paying homage to Marilyn (compared to Kim K's recent attempt).
I didn't think of that but you could be right. Elle is a huge fan of Monroe and recently even put out a photo of herself wearing a wig that resembles Monroe's famous short hair bob.
The iris dior corset and skirt felt like a more formal 90’s punk-ish thing. The skirt looks like a kilt style but longer and wearing it with a ‘corset’ feels very 90’s.
Def kilt not gathered. You’re spot on about punk look.
I agree. But the length of that skirt was just all wrong.
i love your jacket!
I think the Cannes red carpet saved the year because red carpets until know were a bit boring and giving us nothing..
Rebecca Hall went and ate every look she put on! She said if you gon shown up SHOW OUT.
This was a great red carpet. Not everyone knocked it out of the park, but I could see why everyone picked their outfits, there was always something about them. Unlike some of the nightmares we've seen on other recent red carpets.
agree, this was a really fun red carpet to see and I think no one looked terrible
I loved this red carpet. I do adore pretty sophisticated, elegant, chic!!! Not to say that I hate funky creative, because I don’t. I LOVE THAT ALSO! Sometimes one needs to see a difference.
Do you hear that, Anna W.
Nailed it, as always
You're my favorite 💗
Have you ever seen the Netflix show “Next in Fashion” - it’s a fashion competition show that gigi and tan france will host next season and thought it’d be fun for u to review
I believe he already reviewed previous season of it.
Referencing the Balenciaga pantyshoe, THANK YOU for being the sole individual to point out the ratio of the back of the shoe to the Achilles ...I have noticed before that unless the wearer fits EXACTLY into the shoe size available, there is that odd space that almost makes it appear as though the pantyshoe doesn't fit properly...which completely takes me out of the look since it's supposed to be an encompassed silhouette, all one shade, all one space. Thank you for noticing & pointing this out!!
Omg you should totally do a deepdive into Indian designers. From the Sabyasachi x Schiaparelli worn by Natasha Poonawalla at the Met, to Gaurav Gupta dressing some of the biggest celebrities 😍 some others are Manish Malhotra, Falguni Shane Peacock, Papa don’t preach, and some more whom I’m forgetting.
I'm rolling with the LG.
Love this so much! Having a day and this is really great! Thank You!
The most expensive accessory you can have a baby bump ❤ thank you 🤩🎉
Please do the review of deepika padukone's white Pearl saree outfit. Btw was waiting for this video since so long and it delivered ❤
YOU ARE THE COMERCIAL MAN WE NEEDED
I DONT NEED BUT BECAUSE OF YOU ILL BUY IT
I've been wating for this video to happen. Not disappointed!!
deepika is gorgeous, i've been obsessed since watching bajirao mastani ❤
LUKEEEEE!!!! WE NEED THE IU LOOK!!!
Excellent sponsorship:
the LG Cinebeam projector intrigues me!
The beaded sari reminded me of the qi pao your queen, Michelle yeoh wore to the Oscar for the movie " Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" (2001) You would have been way too young to have seen it, They both enhanced their 'traditional" garment by amazing beading. I actually just came across your video randomly a few nights ago and I simply couldn't help myself but watched all your videos I can find. May I say that I just admire how knowledgeable you are about fashion and you have a great sense to appreciate not only the look but the fit, and construction of a gown, Keep up the good work!!!
Luke you need to learn more about Indian fashion, I'd love to see an episode on that
Sad to see no mention of Christina Aguilera, but loving the video so far! ❤️
You, dear fellow are moving up. Plus you are looking good. I like the look in your commercial.
wow, Armani dresses were something else!
I’ve always loved how saris looked. Everyone I’ve seen wear them are so beautiful, never seen an “ugly” sari
I was waiting so much for this I wanted to see your review on what Måneskin wore. So sad you didn’t mention them once more
I was also waiting for this :/
He did say this was part one, so maybe they’ll be in the next?
There are so many more looks to review and all of the AMFAR fundraiser looks. Hoping for a part two!
Sari is something which is so versatile and many warrior queens used wore that during war as a comfort cloth
I've binged watched a lot of videos and I've never seen one good Kristen Stewart's look..
Been waiting for this soo eagerly!! Especially Deepika Padukone cause she's my favourite actress of all time ❤️
Anne Hathaway's dress was stunning! I love everyone's outfits but my goodness Anne Hathaway's outstanding dress was so impressive and so, so elegant.
I’ve never disagreed more with Luke, Viola’s dress was gorgeous. Also the skirt was pleated, not gathered.
I do agree that the skirt was a bit crinkly wrinkly but that bodice was absolutely stunning
Anne my lovely...she looked so good in every outfit at cannes.
The Marc Jacob’s worn by Jaime Xie pattern is very definitely mid-1970’s; dark, muted color + heavier weight and textured fabric + Art Deco print + 1930’s cut = ‘70’s
i love you luke but hearing u call a blouse a bralette sounded so wrong 😂
