Cage was lying about Markus x Simon. Simon was never supposed to be the alternative love interest to North. The other (scrapped) love interest was a human named Riley. You can find pictures of her and Markus renovating her new apartment among the Detroit: Become Human concept art. And there's a leftover reference to Markus meeting with Riley before the Capitol Park mission in the game files.
