Rainey Street, 6th street, Town Lake bridge with the bats, paddle boarding, South Congress, UT campus, with Barton Springs.. @Johnny Mnemonic Democrats and liberals are not communists, in fact they are the prime perpetrators of right wing economic policies in Austin. What we need is rent control and limitation of property values, and protection from excessive property taxation. I fully agree that west coast liberals thrust the burden of economic change on the existing residents of the city. They are neoliberal swines and should stay out of Texas.

I live in San Antonio. You're right, Austin is completely awesome, if you can stand the traffic. The Riverwalk in SA is very cool but it's a tourist trap with just so-so restaurants (by S. TX standards). Mi Tierra, while very good...but far from the very best Mexican food in town, is an institution that everyone should experience here. But Gruene, TX is the real hidden gem down here. Very quaint still, even though the secret is now out. Grab dinner at the Gristmill next to Gruene Hall & have the onion rings. You can thank me later.

Born and raised in Austin. Don’t see many people actually born here anymore cuz of all the people moving in. Unpopular opinion but I love the growth of our city! I’ve watched “old Austin” grow into what it is today. Change happens and people have to live with it. I see it as a compliment to our city that so many people wanna travel/move here and feel very blessed in where I am.

the (tragic) irony (or perhaps poetic justice) is that people got so stuck up about austin and started telling the world that it was cool so much that droves and droves and droves and droves of people started moving there and then messed it up (see the traffic situation, etc.) . . . then after all the hype that people created about austin, and people started to move in, many had the audacity to tell people to not move to austin and they got mad because people from Cali and other hipster areas moved in. . . Maybe they should have been more humble, instead of creating the current situation by being so arrogant about austin (a common austin based ethos is that nothing is cool in texas but it, when that's is a huge lie, see other texas cities).
also, most of the charming places in and around austin are kind of over done at this point, for instance, the oasis used to be alot smaller and cozier, now it's just another behemoth quasi-touristy spot. . . and the watering holes are polluted and at times closed off to swimmers because of higher than normal bacteria levels (see dogs dying after swimming in town lake) but at least austin has a bunch of. . . . of food trucks, yes there are many food trucks to indulge in and other food establishments that have legions of followers that would rather wait in herd like lines to eat a stranger's food because they bought into the hype, instead of preparing their own meals with their own hands. And 6th street is mainly a den of alcoholic anchored stupidity and explosive violence so much that it had to be cordoned off by law enforcement.
oh and all this new love for austin's eastside is just a symptom of the effects of gentrification. . . the eastside was the historical jim crow established section designated for afro americans and chicanos. . . now it's the cool spot for developers and upwardly mobile types that are looking forward to moving the poor out faster than they've been doing for the last 10 years.

I’ve lived in Addis Ethiopia, Nairobi Kenya, Manhattan & Brooklyn NY, DC-DMV, all places have their own good & bad part but Austin fulfills most best things in this imperfect world. In Austin people are nice & welcoming, it’s diverse with music , good food ...quality of life and safety.
I see many people complaining about traffic, 😂 you know what city I’ve never seen any traffic? Erie, Pa. I’ve stayed there for half year. Those of you complaining please move there 🤩
However the city of Austin could do better to cut the traffic by half as the traffic is not Austin’s traffic but a passing through traffic. The city could construct beltways like DC and block those ugly 18 wheeler 🚛 trucks.

I grew up in Austin. I have to say that this was a well put together video. I enjoyed Mozart’s making a feature and I wish Zilker could have been included.

      Thanks Geir!
I’ll have to go back to see Zilker Park. But I figured that Zilker Park is covered by most travel guide videos to Austin, and I thought mine would cover some of the least seen places.
