Stunning! If Patty Griffin was just a singer she`d be my favourite female singer. The fact that she is an exceptionally talented songwriter and wonderful guitarist just pushes my respect and admiration right to the top of my personal favourite singer/musicians list. Great clip. Thanks for uploading it. Tony
I ran across "Ghosts" for the first time this year. After 3 songs I bought the album. When I got to Not Alone I had to stop the player. I choked up. Later I played it again and it really got to me. I started to remember those I have loved and lost over the years. Great song, very soulful. There isn't a bad song on the entire album.
I found the lyrics to this beautiful song and want to share it with you. I heard this song at the end of NCIS "Shiva" (Season 10 episode 4) Beautiful song... Thank you for sharing. :) I hope this turned out right... Here it is. NOT ALONE PATTY GRIFFIN She sees him lying in the bed alone tonight The only thing a touching him is a crack of light Pieces of her hair are wrapped around and 'round his fingers And he reaches for her side, for any sign of her that lingers CH: And she says you are not alone Laying in the light Put out the fire in your head And lay with me tonight 2. One of them bullets went straight for the jugular vein There were people running a flash of lightning Then everything changed Nothing really matters in the end you know All the worry is over Don't be afraid for me my friend, one day we all fall down forever CH: And you are not alone Laying in the light Put out the fire in your head And lay with me tonight Bridge: 3. The wedding date was June just like any other bride She loved him like no one before, it was good to be alive But sometimes that can slip away as fast As any fingers through your hands So you let time forgive the past and go and make some other plans CH: And you are not alone Laying in the light Put out the fire in your head And lay with me tonight CH: You are not alone Laying in the light Put out the fire in your head And lay with me tonight
Also it plays at the end of a movie called : 'Niagara, Niagara' That's where I first heard her, went and Google her, bought a guitar and learned this song. So tragically beautiful.
I'm a big fan of rock songs with huge riffs and solos but there is something special about a guitar and a beautiful voice and listen to the silence in the room.
That's an amazing song and I'm happy that I'm not the only one that heard it on ncis and came here to found which song it was and to hear it again and again and again...
"let time forgive the past and go and make some other plans." my favorite line. so true with life. it doesn't turn out how you thought it was going to, but you just have to move on.
I just heard this song on NCIS... what rock have I been living under to NOT have heard this song or of Patty Griffin? Absolutely hauntingly beautiful. Amazing doesn't even begin to describe.
Also heard it on NCIS. Shame on me for not knowing this exceptionally talented artist. A voice like an angel! Reminds me of a cross between Emmy Lou and Allison Krauss
you were my hero Patty G. for years when I was very sick. Sick of life, sick of sick just sick. You gave me the strength of fellow feeling!! Awesome lady.
OMG!!!! This song songs truth. A story we all needed. I love you and thank you Patty Griffin. Thank you for singing your stories. This song means so much to me. It’s like a nursery rhyme a story you listen to and somehow it just makes you feel better. I love you Patty Griffin. I am so glad you were in my life thank you I love you I would love to meet you.
Thanks to Shazam for identifying this song. What a beautiful voice Patty has. A very fitting song for a sad moment for all of the NCIS faithful. Ziva is a pillar of strength but we've just seen Tony at his most sensitive. Kudos for the writing staff of NCIS and to all the great actors that portray intriguing and lovable characters.
After reading the comments I guess I have to thanks the ncis show as well because I'm a long time fan of Patty "PatriciaJean" Griffin and she definitely deserves more exposure, and more music lovers need to be exposed to her.
the first time i heard this song i cried. still do. it whispers to that hidden place in my heart that has no words.... surrounded by barbed wire, a frayed ball of string and some crumpled candy bar wrappers...
I just heard this song on NCIS tonight and was so moved. Wonderful song. I, too, am so happy to have found another wonderful artist to listen to. I hope she somehow learns of all the people that were moved by hearing her song on that show.
I was playing Diablo 3 when I herd this coming from the TV downstairs, I had to go see what it was, Caught the last min of it and came here to find the song. So peaceful. I'll be checking more of her songs.
This song was during the last couple of minutes of a recent NCIS episode (Shiva), to great effect. Along with being a fantastic episode, it exposed this great song to a whole new audience, myself included.
It was on an episode of Without a Trace that I watched at like 4:00 a.m. this morning on TNT. The name of the episode was "Rage." It was about a schoolteacher trying to rescue a student from an abusive parent, while dealing with her own father's release from prison. It was an amazing episode, and this song was very haunting, capturing the feel of this powerful and poingnant episode. Well worth seeing/renting.
Patti wrote this for the husband of a woman who was shot and killed at an abortion clinic. I sang it at a memorial for a friend who went down in tower one. Very powerful.
This song was used in a short drama, during the love scene between Michael C. Hall and Maura Tierney called "Ruth and Erica" (Episode 12) which can be seen here on UA-cam on the WIGS channel. All of the scripted dramas they do are amazing, but this scene with the addition of Patty's music was so beautiful, just a lovely and endearing story.
"One day we all fall down forever..." Masterpiece.
"....don't be afraid for me my friend, one day we all fall down forever..."
Death is the inevitable end of life, there is no escape. I feel she is saying that, although things change, it is nothing to worry about or fear.
Totally. ❤️. We all fall down forever.
I don't know how she can perform this, ever. I would choke by the end of the second line.
I love this song! Such beautiful voice. Made me cry. Lost my daughter Melissa 3 years ago. Miss her daily! Thanks for sharing Patti!!😘😘

Best album ever!
The album is a masterpiece :)
Fragile and solid as a rock at the same time.
Fragile and solid, a great contradiction, probably sums us all up...
