- In this video I compared three SSL E Channel Strip plugins against each other: Waves Audio SSL EV2 Channel, SSL Native Channel Strip 2, Plugin Alliance/Brainworx bx_channel SSL E. Can you hear the difference? Which one sounds best?
Please note: Waves SSL EV2 and Brainworx bx_console 4000 E are emulating the SSL 4000 E Series, while SSL Native Channel Strip 2 is emulating the 9000 E Series.

You had a bit more gain on SSL. Difference is so subtle. I like how people hate on Waves when thousands of hits records were done mainly on Waves.
Great comparison!!! I think it would be interesting how the SSL 4K B and the 4K E performs...
By far the best comparison of a plugin. Straight no chaser! Talking is ok sometimes but I think the presenter gets in the way of just being able to analyze the plugin for themselves. at the end of the day hearing is believing. Great channel keep up the great work and by the way thanks!

Really interesting and well done. I couldn't pick an overall favorite. I liked different SSL emulations on different audio examples.

Thank you for devoting so much attention to level matching. It’s crucial! I have each of these and generally favor the Waves for a very smooth freq response. The BX is a little hype-y wherever booster was applied here. As this is a very important process for me, I’ll probably do my own comparo in the near future. Great work here.

Your comparisons are amazing. The Solid State one sounds too clean, but that punch and low-end is amazing. The Waves has too much high end. The Plugin Alliance version is in the middle, and sounds just right.

That because the SSL is a 9000k emulation & it's a warmer fuller console. SSL just released their 4000 so I hope this is done again with that in the mix. Still a great video!!!!!!!!

SSL channel strip is an updated version of Duende Channel strip which took the eq curves from the c200
It has no added harmonics hence why it sound clean and the bass sounds "punchy or full" whatever you wanna add for just a neutral bass sound
It's a clean eq like your daws main eq
It's a little more "powerful" so it more like the pro q from fabfilter but with the same fixed eq curves in the c200 digital desk instead of being able to micro adjust everything
Again I repeat the ssl channel strip isn't based on any series of ssl other than c200
The updated version does change the interface and some other things but it works with the same idea, look into what they have changed between versions
However the 4k b and 4k e ssl are different ball game and should be used in this but probably wasn't out for this comparison video

@@Notinserviceij Is SSL lying about the Native Channel Strip? The description from their website says 'The legendary tone, features and workflow of an SSL 9000K console channel strip.'
The bx is really damn close. I wonder if flipping through the channels would make a difference 🤔

Thank you! This is the integrated visualisation of Samplitude Pro -The DAW I'm using for videoproduction.
With Waves happens the same thing where it ‘sounds familiar’ (“pro, like a record”)because, just like with the SSL consoles back in the day, most of the music has been mixed with them. Whether good or bad… it “sounds”.
SSL Channelstrip ist the best. Then SSL. Then BX. Last Waves.
I like the Brainworx version best.
To my taste, 1) SSL, 2) Waves, 3) BX. But given that the Waves one ist almost always on sale it was an easy choice for me which one to buy given that the differences are really subtle.
Only the Channel Strip 2 does the „glue“ 😉

the SSL Chanel Strip 2 is emulating the 9000. As of yet there is no E Channel but that is coming very soon (maybe). I know Brainworx do a 9000k and I'm reasonably sure Waves do (the grey one?)
You're right, the SSL Native emulates the 9000K. Honestly, I didn't realize that SSL Native didn't emulate the 4000 console at all - I'm sorry for that mistake! This of course results in some differences, although in the examples it is set to E and represents the E-Series character. Therefore it comes quite close to the sound of the other plugins. I think the gray one from Waves should be the SSL 4000 G - Series.

I choose the SSL from solid state
I have all three but have not done my own comparo. Hearing this, I am no fan at all of Brainworx’s zizzy, overbrite highs. I have to say Waves takes it for me on every sample. A warm and complete sound.
I disagree. Waves sounded too sharp and cheap. Bx had the best when it came to higher frequencies and SSL had a bit much mid, Maybe could be used on a drum bus.

The actual SSL ones sound the best to me. The Brainworx stuff sounds wayyy off. Waves, surprisingly close but not quite there. But how do they compare to an actual SSL board, that's the real question. I'd guess that SSL get's the closest.

The solid state one is cleanest, the brainworx has this punchy grid, waves can sound harsher
the channel strip 2 by ssl is 9000 G i think redo it with the new ssl 4000 E
