  • I thought I'd share a bin end sale I found at Evertons Wine Merchants in Worcester, in which I thought there were some comparative bargains to be had on Burgundy wines from the Cote de Nuits.
Here's what I ordered (I should mention they're in the process of upgrading their website, and it had a few teething troubles when I was ordering - I ended up having to email them instead):
    Vosne-Romanée Domaine René Cacheux 2019 75cl (Bin End) @ £38.04
    www.evertons.co.uk/product/vo...
Gevrey Chambertin, Parcellaires de Saulx 2018 75cl (Bin End) @ £35.88
    www.evertons.co.uk/product/ge...
Nuits Saint Georges Domaine Remoriquet 2018 75cl (Bin End) @ £24.47
    www.evertons.co.uk/product/nu...
    Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Allots, Domaine Remoriquet 2019 75cl (Bin End) @ £28.84

@@BurgundyWithTweedy Our selection is decent enough. Mostly the larger producers. Still fun to watch reviews though, even if I don't always have access to the particular ones you're drinking.

Thanks for the continuing education on the wine of Burgundy Tweedy. You’ve opened up a new, yet complex world to me. And one I’m enjoying learning and drinking though 🍷

Good prices on village level burgundy! Well for these days anyway. I went ahead and took a punt on the 19' Vone, and 19' Nuits. At those prices I don't imagine I'll be dissapointed.

Thanks Nate, that's great to hear! I know what you mean about "for these days" - I've been into Burgundy for just under a decade and typical prices have easily doubled in that time frame, probably more than that.
The reviews look fairly promising for René Cacheux's 2019 Vosne, and looking at wine-searcher.com typical prices for that wine would be roughly double what Evertons were selling it for, so as you say hopefully much less chance of a disappointment!

@@BurgundyWithTweedy Like you I prefer the 2017s at this time, however my hunch is that the 2018s (maybe not all but certainly some) will end up drinking better than the 2017s when they’ve have more time to calm down. If the 2017s are now 7 years old, let’s see how 2018s taste at 9-10. I gambled recently on a purchase hoping that will be true. Fingers crossed.

      @BurgundyWithTweedy  4 місяці тому

@@GreatNate Yes let's hope that's true - I did hear 2017 described as a very "forward" year, so perhaps the fact I've been enjoying those wines so much has a lot to do with the fact I was drinking them comparatively young, but they reached a good state of maturity comparatively quickly.

I love your tastings from the cellar. It's probably not the best place to appreciate them though.
It does make me think that you live in the narrowest of houses😅😅
    All the best!!

Thanks David! It's an old Victorian coal hole really, and is just the width of the entrance corridor to the house. Although that said the rest of the house isn't particularly wide either! It's very damp and musty down there, so the only use for it is to store wine - everything else we try to store down there ends up going mouldy!

@@BurgundyWithTweedy Maybe not the best of places to keep your wine for a long time .... I suspect that's not a great problem for you!! Mind you that will all depend on quality of the cork. Talking of which we have been driving through the hills today towards the border with Portugal, an area noted for the high quality ham which rely on the managed forests of cork trees. The pigs are flattened on the acorns. And of course the bark of the trees is harvested for cork products. Maybe your Burgundy has a cork from this area? Nearest wineries are further south in the area around Jerez this the sherry growing region, well worth visiting if you get the chance. I seem to have digressed .... someone might say "terrible commentary!!" .....

@@davidberlanny3308 Yes I think you're right, I suspect the conditions aren't really ideal for long term cellaring of wine: it's not very far underground so the temperature tends to fluctuate a bit.
I had heard about the cork producing regions of Portugal and it could well be the case the corks in my cellar are from that area!
