  • Tasting the 2011 vintage of many believe to be the best village level Gevrey Chambertin on the market - from cult winemaker Jean Marie Fourrier. This, the 2011 vintage, was the first I ever tried, originally back in 2015, and it was interesting to revisit it nine years later to see how it had developed.

I see this video actually lost a subscriber! Was it the lack of tweed?

Your best wine review to date as it includes the classics line …………. “It’s not mouldy”! 😂🤣
Another delightfully entertaining review. Thank you 👏👏👍😀🍷

Thanks Andrew! I was a bit apprehensive about this one - the last time I'd shared a bottle of Fourrier with Christian it had gone a bit awry, still not quite sure what the issue was with that other one, maybe a bit fault? So it was a great relief that this one was in good shape!

    Thank you Tweedy!
Great to hear this review of a Gevrey Chambertin vintage as I was always slightly not hearing your pronunciation of it, so I now know what to aim for!

Cheers to both of you ...... look we've multiplied that's four of us now. Just as well Christian was there to back you up. I shall be searching my cellar for any of these ........ if only I had a cellar, well I do kind of its actually a garage, a loft version of garages in that its where we store all our junk too, as well as the odd car, bottle of wine and steam engines
    Very entertaining review, well done!!

Love how you review the color hues of the wine though a glass that looks as milky as I’ve seen in a long time. 😄
Love your down to earth, earnest reviews. ❤️
For what’s it’s worth, I have a few cases of Stephane Brocard’s Gevrey Chambertin Village ‘01, and they still drink rather admirably, given the negociant and non-obvious producer.

Thank you! I feel like I could have said a bit more about the nuances that make Fourrier's wine special but I was a bit self conscious as I had a "live audience" for a change, and more than anything else I was just relieved that the wine was actually still in good condition!

The condition of the bottle and cork really haven't helped, a Fourrier is generally a very good wine and a 2011 "Geoffrey" 'should' be good for a few more years yet.!

This one has been in my cellar since November 2022. I bought it from Seckford Wines, it was part of a case in original packaging, and I hope that means it had been in bonded warehouses in the correct conditions prior to that.
The tasting notes might have sounded a bit lukewarm but that was partly because I was so apprehensive after that 2015 (also shared with Christian) which had been a big disappointment. We actually did enjoy it!
Although I personally prefer these Fourrier village level Gevrey Chambertins when they're a bit younger: fruitier and more floral. The earthy / sous bois notes this was developing were textbook signs of Burgundy aging, doing exactly what you'd expect, but I'm just not sure I really want that! Particularly in a wine like this which is light on the extraction, and has the potential to be very elegant and perfumed.

Great that you enjoyed it, "plenty a good tune played on an old fiddle" as they say so will we see the odd more mature "Geoffrey" review ?
I would add that every video from you is a real joy though, just keep exploring and doing what you do !
