Welcome to part 1 of Life After a Dream, my miniseries that will be chronicling Sega's ventures following the Dreamcast!
I've been wanting to make this for a while and I finally decided that now was the time. You can expect another episode of this soon along with some normal content, some surprises and maybe something new!
What are some of your favorite Sega games that released during this time?
Outrun 2/2006. Just a tight, super-fun racer of a kind that just doesn't get made anymore.
Project Justice? 😍
PSO1 on the gamecube was the gateway drug for me to get into the entire Phantasy Star franchise. I would play the splitscreen co-op with friends on my street every weekend and often host sleepovers in the summer. Can't wait for New Genesis and looking forward to when you finally tackle a PSO video.
Great videos lately, Austin! Don't usually engage with any videos but been noticing lately that your content is going through the roofs! Cant wait for the rest of the series
SEGA on the OG Xbox, lot's of great exclusives. Can't wait :)
Sega really needs to port over a lot of their older games instead of making billions of Genesis compilations.
Yeah, the one on psp had almost all the same games as the Nintendo switch one. At least they stopped doing atgame systems
@@cultofweirdnessable Now they need to make a Saturn Mini and Dreamcast Mini. :)
They're making a bunch of Arcade collections.
@@rainehappy7097 So far only that Japanese-only mini arcade thing has been announced, and only less than a third of the games for it have been confirmed.
@@otaking3582 What about their deal with the iiRcade? or Arcade 1-UP? This isn't the end, it's the beginning!
Man, would it kill Sega to port Skies of Arcadia on modern consoles so I can finally play it? i know the game didn't sell well back then, but come on
Yeah, Sega could totally port it to modern consoles, though I think it would be wise of them to include it in a collection with more popular games from that era. That way it will have actually sold well this time and more people would be able to play it.
There's a long list of games they should port, but they don't, cos they do stuff weirdly.
Thankfully Sega europe seems to be happy porting old stuff to PC at random. That's how Sonic Lost World, Bayonetta, Vanquish, and Persona 4 just showed up on Steam out of the blue during the last five years or so.
This guy segas
They completely gave up on Skies of Arcadia because Valkyria Chronicles actually took off
So basically, Sega got their revenge on Nintendo by killing the F-Zero franchise? Sounds legit.
Nintendo cant make an fzero game as good as gx
Y2k Jetters shit tbh literally if the same team from sega that made gx still existed and they also made a new f zero game they could do so much cool shit. I would love an open world f zero bounty hunting game. Could have such cool combat and characters I bet with the cool f zero universe
@@michaelvandevusse3728 Well if that game ends up being a thing at some point, here's hoping people don't react to it like they did to Star Fox Adventures.
@Milky Way Yes. They are great racing rivals and fast friends. Their legendary battles are always exhilarating, electrifying, and lighting fast!
In the nicest way.
“Monkey Ball level rarely last longer than a minute.” *vinny intensifies*
Also F-zero GX is THE only GameCube game that ran at 60 fps and 16:9 aspect
Super monkey ball 2 also had 16:9 and 60fps
@@supersmashmaster43 thank you I stand corrected :)
Pretty sure multiple ssx games do as well, same as Tony hawk
@@micksterminator3 nah fam, one or the other but not both
@@CamelliaSinensis Not completely correct. Star Fox Adventures, Soul Calibur 2, & Time Splitters Future Perfect were also both 60fps & 16:9.
Burnout 1/2, SSX Tricky, SSX 3, THUG 1/2/American Wasteland, Rayman 3, Lego Star Wars 2 are also 16:9 games that I know run at 60fps on other consoles but can't verify if they do on the GC. Mentioned them anyway just incase.
It is true but also somewhat of an arbitrary claim that being both 60fps & widescreen was rare. Arbitrary because it's easy to use widescreen hacks even on actual hardware, many of them are capable of running it just fine. If a game wasn't widescreen it was less that they couldn't do and more that they didn't feel like putting in the work for something only a few people would get use out of then.
Austin - "The one you remember the most,"
Me - Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg
Austin - "Super Monkey Ball"
Me - oh...
Me: F-Zero GX
Me: sweet low effort meme post bud
@@jak3w ??? Cool post ironic call out? Like I made a joke, no matter how easy it was, is the even a point to make your post? Like yeah, of course it is low effort, it's a UA-cam comment. I mean, I did literally think he was going to say Billy Hatcher when right before he said Super Monkey Ball, and I packaged that in an easy to understand meme format. You just came in here to shit on it and me for no real reason other than your own self gratification that you are some how better than me, because I made a joke. Stop being a dude who ridicules people for trying (regardless of your perceived lack of there for) and actually grow a personality other than ironic disattachment.
Me: Puyo Pop Fever
Unpopular opinion: Super Monkey Ball is a greater Sega duology than Sonic Adventure (although the duology was also pretty good, especially the original. awesomegames.miraheze.org/wiki/Sonic_Adventure awesomegames.miraheze.org/wiki/Sonic_Adventure_2).
awesomegames.miraheze.org/wiki/Sega What does Awesome Games Wiki even have against the original Super Monkey Ball series anyways?! 😠
This is weird but as a SEGA fan I’ve always wanted a series like this that looked at post-dreamcast sega and all their works on each console afterwords and I don’t know if you’ll see this but I guess I just want to say thank you for accidentally doing that for me and I’m excited for the rest of the series. Love you man hope you’re doing well
This video is brought to you by Dole and Pringles.
and Coke
The early 2000s : The era where people got super shocked about Sega becoming a 3rd party developer.
Agree, I was shocked when I heard that sega was dropping from the console business, and going third party.
It was heart breaking when this 1st happened
Yeah I Remember having a Dreamcast with SA 1 & 2 and when I Saw a Commercial for Sonic Adventure 2 Battle on GameCube I had a big WTF Moment and Realized the Dreamcast was Discontinued :'(
F-Zero Switch port, or another F-Zero. Please!
Jet set Radio, one of the best games on Dream Cast, If they made a new one they would gain back so much respect as a company
Oh hell yeah. I wish they'd do a bargain bundle and bring JSR and JSRF to systems to test the hype. If they sell great, make a new JSR game!
Even to this day, I find it weird seeing iconic sega franchises like sonic, on Nintendo, and Sony consoles.
As a Nintendo fan that only played SEGA games at friends houses, seeing Sonic Mega Collection announced for the GameCube was unreal.
What followed was a deep dive into what I missed. The Sonic Adventure games, Crazy Taxi, new games like Super Monkey Ball.
And then there were the SEGA games in the GBA. Sonic Advance series, Chu Chu Rocket.
Good times.
I remember buying a used copy of Skies of Arcadia for 15 dollars years ago....best 15 dollars I ever spent
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle still is my favorite game of all time, and i have a lot of great memories of playing SADX, the Sonic Collections (3&K is also one of my favorites) and Super Monkey Ball 2
I should probably hunt for Billy Hatcher, Crazy Taxi and Skies of Arcadia
"Ya did good SEGA, too good, you ruined it for everyone.
Looking forward to the *Skies of Arcadia* video 🥰
I'm glad I wasn't the only human that got a copy of Amazing Island.
I freaking love F-Zero GX, such a good game that I'm only asking Nintendo to do a HD port and nothing more
9:02 With the internet context of Sonic nowadays, I found that hilarious!
when you mentioned amazing island my jaw DROPPED, not only did i not know it was a sega game but ive been hoping you would mention it in a gamecube game video of yours at some point. i was weirdly terrified of this game as a kid but i thought it was so cool. could never complete the first minigame tho so i just kept resetting my save file and making new monsters
It still feels weird seeing sonic and Mario together when in Olympic game and it might be something I'll never be confortable with. But hey that just me!
RIP Dreamcast.
Picked PSO up again after 15 years or so. So happy to be back
I was thinking about doing a series like this. OG Xbox will be interesting
Sky's of Arcadia legends is easily in my top 10 jrpgs of all-time! Those airship battles still rock!
Finally someone talks about this. I wonder why there was no videos on youtube about this topic
It is crazy when you think. Gamecube had like every main sonic game available on it.... all the megadrive/genesis games like sonic 1,2,3&knuckles, all the game gear games, and then you got sonic R, sonic CD, Sonic adventure 1&2, sonic heroes, shadow the hedgehog, sonic riders.... when you think about it... up to that point, a nintendo console had more sonic games than any other console ever... maybe that is why gamecube is my fav nintendo console
I can't speak for Sega as a whole since I only played a select few of their IPs, but this was the absolute best time to be a Sonic fan, at least for me personally, since I loved Sonic but didn't own a Sega. I just played it at my relatives house.
Sega dumped basically every classic game worth playing onto the gamecube, plus the two Adventures games on dreamcast, all while developing new games for both the gameboy advance and gamecube, it was amazing. And a real far cry from where we are now with Sonic on Nintendo devices. We just get the new stuff and the first two genesis games.
I miss those days too, people have strong opinions about this era of Sonic but I was never more engaged with the series than 2002-2005.
Who's egg do I have to suck to get Billy Hatcher on Switch?!
Idiot
4:45 I remember Phantasy Star Online....I remember you have to pay not only for the game but a monthly subscription or else you couldn't play. I also remember when you cancel the subscription they would continue to bill you until you threaten to sue them. Good times.
Sega needs to port the first two Monkey Ball games over. I spent hours on those games when I was a kid.
I haven't watched your video but judging by the title I am pleased to see someone focusing on this particular time for Sega because damn were they killing it.
The one dying shame about Skies of Arcadia Legends is that the music is downscaled hard. Otherwise it's better, especially with the reduced encounter rate
Obscure but interresting Sega knowledge: the arcade variant of the gamecube was the the triforce and it got 2 games from sega that were never ported. Virtua Striker 4 and The Key of Avalon. The latter was a mixture of a trading card game and board game for the arcade and was extremely successful. You still see lots of arcade games with collectible cards in Japan.
Deff a underrated channel. I never miss an upload.
F-Zero GX is such an amazing game that the lack of a sequel genuinely disappoints me.
Great idea for a series en great opener too! Excited for what's to come.
Not a SEGA game, but it was a Dreamcast franchise that got a strange Gamecube game. Evolution 1 and 2 being turned into Evolution Worlds. The Gamecube game combines both 1 and 2 together, but cuts out a lot of the first game. New voice acting added giving it an ENG cast and some new character models, "some". Its funny when you notice what is still an old Dreamcast model.
Is anyone else beginning to notice Austin’s transformation into Vincent Brooks from Catherine? I can’t unsee it...
I miss Billy Hatcher. I really hope they bring it back one day.
SEGA will always be my true love when it comes to gaming, when SEGA release a game, i buy it for every console it releases on. I do not care, they are my childhood and i do everything i can to support them
Wow. I didn't know Neil from Good Mythical Morning had a video game channel!!!! This is awesome!!!!
Oh my god Amazing Island is one of those games that resides deep within my childhood as that game that was so weird it was hard to process what was happening
HOLY SHIT I PLAYED AMAZING ISLAND SO MUCH AS A KID YOU UNLOCKED A MEMORY FOR ME
Amazing island blew my mind when I was 10
that's funny, I was just trying to get Sonic Adventure DX working on my pc lol
Great stuff.
Please cover the Sega Racing simulation games too. GT 2002, Rally that sort.
14:51 clearly you never played SRS on the gamecube.
@referral madness Street Racing Syndicate....... just google SRS girl dancing..... And your understand.
F-Zero GX also lets you draw your own banners and paint it on your vehicle.
Came for the skies, stayed for the show!
amazing island was such a weird game to me as a kid. you awakened a long forgotten memory
I think the biggest thing we missed out from this era is all the ps2 stuff they made for japan only such as the SEGA ages remakes and the Sakura wars poets
Great series idea
2000s retro gaming is the new wave now.
Sega will always be my favorite. Still play my dreamcast and saturn all the time. Not too mention have every sega system on my phone to take with me everywhere lol
I used to rent Amazing Island from Blockbuster....like a lot....like more than any person should ever play that game. But at the time, I just loved it’s character creation system. I actually even did make a Goku myself once lol.
Good stuff as always
Austin Eruption, can you please look at Sega games for Game Boy Advance in a future video?
I love Beach Spikers!!
Hell yeah Amazing Island!
I rented this game a billion times at family video
cool to hear about the games I knew about but even better to hear about the games I haven't I never thought of the xbox as the successor of the dreamcast but then again I never owned or played much with either so it will be good to hear about it next time
WOAH i used to love Amazing Island! 🤣
Great series and video, was hoping for more on Skies of Arcadia though.
1:14 are they tho??
These and the xbox ones were pretty much Dreamcast games...I'd love to see these remade on the Dreamcast
Sonic game releases: sparse
Sonic movie: delayed and changed due to fan response
Some guy on UA-cam: "Milked"
👌
I actually had Amazing Island when I was a kid. I just remember I was never able to beat the final mini-game. Like compared to everything else in that game, that final game was SO much harder...granted when I was like 12, so maybe I could do it now XD
Hey, Austin Eruption. Can you please cover every Sega game for the Nintendo DS?
Omg I remember amazing island and I tilll love it
The problem with CARD Revolution is that is was too little, too soon. During the time, they were competing with Yu-gi-oh, Konami hard hitting as well as Pokemon and other popular card games at the time. The main issue was Nintendo's limited Hardware, as there's no way the system could receive updates as they could on modern day. This was during a major gold-rush during this era of gaming, a similar issues with Phantasy Star Zero as they were not aware of the launch of the updated DS systems.
Meanwhile they made the Xbox the Dreamcast 2
I also lost my Arcade card for F-Zero GX probably left it in the Arcade machine. Bugs me to this day.
I'm so glad you will be covering PSO in the coming months. I'm actually surprised you hadn't already done one with all the PSO music and sound effects you've used in past videos
PSO is a lot of fun...even if I played it entirely offline XD. Also the soundtrack is godly and the lore, while mostly in the background, is pretty interesting
@@wingedmirage4226 It's one of my favorite games when it comes to the Dreamcast and GameCube.
Super monkey ball is the game where if I see it on during AGDQ or something, I will ALWAYS watch it - absurdly fun to watch played by someone who knows it inside out. *edit* Oh, you literally mentioned the speedrunning of it seconds after I typed this >.>
0:40 Is that an Adam Sessler cameo I see?
Yeah, you're right, that's definitely Adam
Brett Baker must’ve been right before the hairline dipped out.
Gotta ring that bell so I dont miss you talking about JSRF in the next video
Gen 6 is my fav console gen partly because Sega IPs we’re still on the ps2, GC and Xbox.
11:27 I had to stop the video so I can listen to theme song...
Without Sega I don’t think the GameCube would be my favorite console today. I played so much PSO episodes 1&2&3, sonic adventure 2, monkey ball and Fzero gx.
Beach Spikers is an awesome game, a "simcade" sports game if you will, with that AM2 quality that separates it from the rest, like I really wish DOA Xtreme played like that now all I got is an import only voyeur simulator for an obscure handheld because the best beach volleyball game is stuck in the frickin' cube.
"Green and Purple, ya'll." Thanks, Doc
Bruh I use to play the shit out of amazing island as a kid. I need to go find my copy of that game and see what weird creations I made. I just remember trying to crank my monsters stats to the max for certain events and get better records lmao
Yo I loved Amazing Island as a kid lmao. If you want a spiritual successor to F-Zero you should try Fast R.M.X. on Switch. It kind of owns.
Nagoshi loves his arcade games
I know Amazing Island from Game Grumps during the one year JonTron was on it.
DANCING WITH SPEARS
Great video
*boi you can't hide that shining force 2 music from me*
Just bought a Dreamcast again after selling the one I bought in 2000 in 2013. I only have Crazy Taxi, Sonic Adventure and Shenmue currently. The Dreamcast was crazy advanced for its time. And is one of my favorite consoles.
First ad I didn't skip in months. They don't ship to the UK tho ffs
good video man ty!
Because of COVID, we’ll never see Mario and Sonic at the Tokyo Olympics. Sigh.
my fave sega games are on gamecube
I wish Billy Hatcher would get a remake or rerelease at least
I have been looking for amazing island since I remembered it five years ago but I just could not remember the name no matter what I did
Skip the ad and just get to the video, FOUR EYES!
Fzero gx is best futuristic race title? U forgot about the Wipeout series?
He did mention it in the video
