Watching you dolly the car up makes me so appreciative of people who care for their customer's car. My F80 went into limp mode because of a hole in my gas tank and I had it towed to the nearest dealer. When I came in to check on the work I noticed a huge scratch on the rear fender from them trying to get it into the shop. They fixed it with a 3rd party body shop on their dime but it's nice to see this level of care.
What i found insane is the channel not having at least half a million subs. So much production and dedication to it deserves at least half a million subs!
Amazing content as usual Bryan. Still need to do a crankhub upgrade on my F80 but I'm not pushing over 500hp or the car to its limit. Will definitely prioritize that when the time comes.
Brian, you guys have done an amazing job. You've accomplished so much since I started following you when you had that F30 328i! I can't wait to take the delivery of my M2C some time this summer, and get some goodies for it from you!
Hello from malaysia. Really cool video. I'm still living dangerously - Got the VTT crankhub and crankbolt capture kit sitting on my desk at home and not in the car. Nobody here dares to drill crankhubs so had to go with a non keyed one. I'm waiting till my next fluid change to get it all done. Here's hoping it holds out till then :)
Love seeing some cross coast collaboration! Rhetorical question at this point, but why was he running a stage 2 turbo setup with an e85 tune without an upgraded hub (or at least a CBC)??? That type of power is clearly outside the bounds of what the hub assembly is intended to handle. Anyway, excited for the next segment :)
People run high hp tunes for years on these cars without upgrading the crank hub. There’s no guarantee it’ll last but it’s also not an issue that plagues 100% of cars
@@boostedoctane8041 It's not a widespread problem within the reasonable bounds of stock power levels; many people have been running stage 2 tunes with no issues. This guy seems to be pushing big power with stage 2 turbos, meth injection, and E85 but not upgrade the hub... even going back to the N54 days, this is know as a potential item to address in that situation; hubs are not recent news. I just think its funny that there are people running big power mods and complaining about hubs spinning and trying to characterize it as a "design flaw" when they are pushing way more than what the OE assembly is meant for.
@@cokemachine62590 Agreed, absolutely not an endemic issue. It just seems that in this specific fact set (Stage 2 turbos, meth, E85), it's an item that probably should have been addressed
Stress ...in my 30 yrs working on engines, modified, 50cc, huge 12cyl Detroit’s in boats and I have learnt one thing..stress, no engine will handle stress beyond the capacity of its internals...bearings, pistons, cranks etc... Even the most bullet proof engines with all forged components will fail under high boost so the “Achilles heal “ will be stress failure from too much boost.. All the people touting the high output of s58 with simple tune and pipes, pushing 700hp should remember one thing, that simple tune is adding higher boost and that engine is gonna blow ..
Till 2017 November every F8x platform has a carbon one. Because of emission regulations, they changed from the carbon to a steel one to make space for the PPF (petrol particulate filter).
it is nice too see a team work,.i just done a 335 engine by my self. it is not a mission impassible but it is not just a brake job or oil change, you do need another person assist you for heavy lifting or spot something catching on the way. and also having all the equiment to work with too. we dont even have a transmission jack, so sad 😔.
Stock engines are still prone to failure, however the failure rate is much lower. If your going to be tracking your car, you may want to consider upgrading but for the most part it is not needed.
Hello @KiesMotorsports , I have a stock F80 M3 CS from 2018. I don't plan on modding it, it's a daily drive car, not for track, sometimes more aggressive on highways with some down shifts. Should I be worried about crank hub? Cheers
Hey guys was the car lightly modified and the crank hub spun that bad? Or did he have a heavy tune with e85? Just curious because I’m in the market for a F80 but I’m nervous about the crank hub.
I spun my crank hub back in august after installing PJT E85 Stage 2+ tune. I didn't blow my motor but the BMW tech working on my car said that it was one of the worst crankhubs that he's ever seen and that I am extremely lucky I didn't bend my valves.
If you're leaving the car stock as is, your chance of spinning the crankhub is rare. Once you start pushing over 500hp and taking the car to its limit is when you need to worry. This is more common is DCT transmission as the shifting occurs more quickly with much more torque-iness which prone to spinning the crankhub. 6spd and auto is not as common but can still occur as well.
I never understand why they engineered the crank sprocket like that. i get it, it's much easier to assemble but the risk of damaging the engine is also high esp on performance engine
It's a more efficient cost factor. It was a fail design from the start but it was only anticipated for stock motor @ 425hp. Pushing over 500hp is when the failure occurs

what mods did the car have before spinning the crank hub?
how much is an engine and trans for this build?
