I like the idea of testing out the cheap 20 dollar airbrush on your tank, sounds like a helpful video
Same! I also have one so id like to see him try out
Bump
Something you could do for the tank could be removing a few high tech details on the tank's surface, similar to how you removed lots of the details on your centurions, this could leave you more space to place down gothic skulls and whatnot
I did this exact thing on the RepEx and it looks much better without all the random missile pods and bits and bobs.
Sadly the Arvus Lighter isn't coming in plastic, they are just restocking the resin model in FW
Poot and dang; I was getting my hopes up 🙁
@@euansmith3699 Everyone was getting their hopes up. I wanted to get two for terrain pieces, one regular and one crashed. They would make great objective terrain for battles.
Yes I would definitely have gone for two or three Arvus Lighters in plastic but no, not even one in resin at Forgeworld prices.
I will have a look online to see if anyone is still doing templates for paper GW vehicles and if they include the Arvus.
It also sounded like they redid the molds for the kit as well. So these new ones will probably (hopefully) be better quality castings than the last of the previous ones.
@@JMcMillen...and you will pay for that 😅😂
I realized that after watching quite a few of these videos this guy is really quite skilled at presenting information.
Almost never uses filler words and speaks in an enthusiastic and dynamic, clear manner.
Adds a lot to the channel.
I vote for the cheap airbrush challenge and as a cherry on top paint the metal bumpers glowing hot orange from the heat of the anti-grav-engine-thingy. Would be a nice contrast to the Black Templar colorscheme
Yes this. Maybe even go the whole hog and fit some leds on the underside.
That Phobos Lieutenant is really good with, ironically, Reivers. He lets you move D6 after shooting. SO, deep strike reivers 9" away from an objective with a squad on it, shoot, move D6, and thrn make a very reliable charge. Once in melee you can force battleshock and take the objective even if you don't kill the unit on it. The same strat can be used to make the squad a character assassination squad since their weapons all have precision. Not good against heavily armored characters, but against lighter characters it can get the job done. Wanna kill that Apothecary with bolter discipline hanging out with the Desolators in the back line? This squad can do that!
Do Reivers have the deep strike ability...?
@@HobbyBeforeIDie They can equip grav chutes as wargear that gives them deepstrike and currently all wargear is free so you'd basically always take it. Weirdly though the Reiver Lt doesn't have deep strike or the ability to get a grav chute.
@tajj7 excellent! I hadn't spotted those grav chutes 👍
I vote for the cheap airbrush challenge!
And one thing: is cleary Sean use a much more competitive and better performing list... did he has fun wiping your army out every time? Why don't you just agreed to balance your armies before a friendly game?
if sean is using psychophages hes not using a competative list
it could just be hes better at making tactical decisions and understands the game better
jay comes across really as a Timmy when it comes to gaming, he likes to do the cool thing but doesnt really get the numbers or tactics behind it so doesnt really make good decisions
I seem to recall they play the wrong pts lvl (not 2k) so faction balance is worse. Gw insists you can play other pts lvls but they balance for 2k and had to give the units other rules at combat patrol lvl so...
Yeah. I like to play competitive but vs other competitive list. If my opponent bring fluffy stuff i will do the same and viceversa. Not cause I am "good" but cause I seek a far fight cause then victory will be more sweet.
Tyranids are T1 in combat patrol apparently
i think painting the tank with just a brush is more interesting, but the 20 bucks airbrush is neat for people who don't have one.
Maybe a Third option for the tank, paint it only using sponges/sponging 🤔
you should put giant banners or flags on the repulsor swaying in the wind like its charging into battle and maybbe a little blood on the bottom like it ran someone over
It depends how comfortable you are with including other factions, but one of the things that I do to keep myself engaged when upgrading my army with an extra dude or two that I either already have or I’m not particularly hyped for, but need for strategy reasons, is to add them as a “visitor“ from another chapter.
I run dragonspear, but I have a small contingent of Storm Giants, and a slightly larger contingent of Dark Kraken that “come to visit” whenever I need to have that one special unit that I don’t really care for in my main army. I have found that developing a new paint scheme made it a much more interesting task that I was more engaged with than if I was just building a random invictor warsuit.
And I just run Blood Ravens so anything not in their scheme I can just say "they wanted to preserve this suit even more than normal"
Can we get "sean" on. An interview with the (fictitious or otherwise) Sean would be fun. In England there was a show called the "Royale Family". There were characters (like "Sean") that were discussed but never appeared in the show - just added to the appeal - Great work - you are the most entertaining presenter on the Tube - well done.
Sean is the guy in the backseat at the start of the 5 day leviathan challenge video
As someone who runs 90% phobos w/ 3 squads of eliminators, I run each squad with las fusils and the SGT with instigator bolt carbine. They are pretty expensive for their durability, so the shoot and move helps keep them alive. Also, a little bit of character sniping never hurts
Phobos librarian
I’ve seen how good you can sculpt fabric. You should drape a giant purity seal a couple times over the barrel of the main turret. Or wrap one around it. Black Templars like their purity seals right?
These videos have become weekly routine. As someone new into the game and learning this is become relaxing and enjoyable.
You should try the Lancer sometime. Cheap, *great* antitank gun, and has a built-in Oath of Moment, which will keep your command points in your pocket for the footsloggers while the Lancers tear up tanks for you.
They're really good!
Give the tank a pristine look, like it is a new one which just hit the battleground. Maybe add some bullet holes like it got light hits the moment it arrived.
Las Fusils seems to be the way to go. If used with Phobos Librarian to deny deep strikes with 2" rule, you can go all Las Fusils. They can remain stationary while having LoS. Added benefit of having unit guarding back line. If short on points, i would go with Instigator Bolt Carbine on sergeant for Move-Shoot-Move. This way you have ability to deny deep strike and have some shooting.
If you want Precision, i would go with 2x5 Sniper Scouts, even better if faction of choice are Ultramarines. This way you can include Sg. Telion for +1 to Hit and [Lethal Hits / Sustained Hits 1] but that should be 1x10 Sniper Scouts for maximum value.
I like the OnlyBrushes challenge. Artis Opus has some cool videos on stippling panels and this could be the EOB version.
Jay, build the box of eliminators as las fusils; the ones you get in the vanguard are monopose with bolt rifles. With a little bit of effort you can use the carbine from the full box that you have to modify one of the manoposed to have it so you can do a 2 rifle 1 carbine unit.
Thank you! 100% agree on the stratagem with the guard.
Played a 5 round game agains guard, he brought back TWO different sentinel squads. Took me forever to kill them, just for them to pop back on the field.
Do the cheap airbrush, for sure. I got myself one as my first airbrush, and it was surprisingly good right up until I dropped it and the trigger snapped off. I've since upgraded to an Iwata Eclipse, but I think cheapo airbrushes really need more youtube love, as a way to get more people into a really useful part of the hobby.
I've painted quite a few tanks for my guard now and I've never felt the need to get an airbrush. I feel like I get a lot more interesting results with sponging and drybrushing than I see people get with airbrushes. On a big chunky tank the super smooth and rounded airbrush highlights feel kinda weird. With sponging you get a nice amount of grit and texture, simulating the rough armour plating. And with dry brushing you get better control to make the highlights fit the shape of the model, making its overall shape stand out more.
The other thing i have found with vehicles is that they are a great canvas for doing interesting effects like using cotton to make smoke billowing from soot covered exhausts, textured gunk building up along the bottom of the tank and in the tracks, camo netting draped over the vehicle to hide it from enemies, and slick oil building up in the mechanical parts. For a Templar's hover tank you can put some of these techniques to great effect like having incense burners to purify the land in their wake.
If you want to make it less modern and more gothic templars'y, I'd suggest adding banners - have one hang down from the main gun, make it look like a heavly decorated lance from a medieval knight tournament show-fight, drape another over the front armor, perhaps even a flagpole.
As a heads up, the lander isn't coming back in plastic. It's just coming back to forge world with some touch ups. Everyone's assuming it's coming back in plastic because it's showing up in the article, and it mentions touch ups, but nowhere does it say anything about plastic. In fact, they say specifically it's coming back to FW, so the assumption should probably be that it'll be in resin?
I have a crashed Aquila Lander that I love to include in all my games, everyone I play with who sees it for the first time loves it
I love the Aquila Lander and am gutted that I wasn't able to get one. My favourite part was the Thunderbird 2 Style Pod compartment.
Bring it back as a sisters flyer in plastic with different configurations dependent on which pod it carried.
Hey Jay & Chris!
I would recommend having both squads kitted out. Get the bolter monopose team, then build the fusil and bolt carbine. Then mix and match! Both are suited and both teams can be used to kill Sean’s parking lot in the same game..
Go with the cheap airbrush - good for people on a tight budget to see if these are a worthwhile purchase. Personally it was my intro to airbrushing and even though I have upgraded I still use the actual airbrush from the set for priming/basecoating.
Jay, devastators (old janky first born) work wonders against vehicles with grav cannons. Specially coming out of reserves in turn 2
Alright, hear me out; having never played a game of 40K in my life.(Only Killteam, but one day it’s gonna happen; oh yeah.) here is how you beat Shawn. Your eliminator load out will be chain swords and bolt pistols. 1. Because black Templar. 2. At that range they can’t miss!! So how do you get them in close? Yes that’s right Drop pod! It should work; probably. Thanks gents!! Fantastic as always!!
Since they made the wrecked version for the old assault on black reach box and knight models are possible, a plastic Aquila lander is reasonable. Sell it for $160 and include one of 5 random inquisitors. Greyfax, the store anniversary guy, a new version of the forgeworld hooded inquisitor, etc.
The funny thing about the bumblebee brick, in horus heresy the game it's intended for, it's one of the most dirt-cheap paper-thin transports by /far/, so it's insane price was really funny considering it was like 10 points
The arvus lighter was a great little shuttle. transport of 6 but no guns. but from forgworld it was way to exspencive, £70-£80 before postage.
I think the trash can shuttle would be cool to use as like a drop pod for an Inquistor. Like second round the inquisitor swoops down onto the battlefield to spread the glory or the imperium BY FORCE.
Dedicated transport for the squad you bring, or squad & character
woah, i remember having that terrain, my brother bought me that whole kit for chirstmas when i was about 9 or 10
Honestly you need to kitbash it for your army like the one tank you did with the church on top
so make it themed for your army not just a symbol or two make it a cathedral or fortress looking thing or an apple orchard or something
Games Workshop: Microtransactions in games before we even had MMO's to put them in.
I doubt you’ll see this but changing the gun barrel on the big gun to make it beefier may help with the more aggressive feel
second edd jumpjet packs looked the best imo, even for the chaos havok with the slick jet style.
I'd like to quote the Warhammer Community page for the Arvus Lighter:
"This resin legend of the Horus Heresy era will be returning to the Forge World webstore soon, retooled and ready for flight after a long hiatus.".
Im not that sure, if it comes out in plastic. Were there Forge World exlusive Plastic kits in the past? I'm afraid, that it will be Resin again...
I've always wanted to kitbash some chaos suppressors using Raptor jump packs and chaos bits.
I'd love to see you paint it by hand and maybe try some freehand art on the doors, flat surfaces.
My vote is for the cheap airbrush I have one but just get around to using it. Especially when a can is always within reach
Use the Tank as a canvas for your Templar's triumphs. It doesn't need to carry a banner - It Is One.
Thats funny. I'm watching this with 3 armless Eliminators in front of me, pondering the same question. I love that the Instigator Bolt Carbine gives you move-shoot-move! I just keep looking at the models and the Datasheets and my magnets...
Feeling like "optimal" load out for these guys really depends on your opponent and goals for the unit.
Sniper Rifles are great for assassinating characters but Las Fusils are better for busting Tanks.
Therefore I'm feeling magnets are probably the best choice here...
My second vehicle was a repulsor, and last edition every single time I played it, it was less than 5 wounds in the first turn.
I have 6 Eliminators all with the Las Fusil. 2 shots from them on their own took out an impulsor on full wounds. The las fusils are swingy but when you get a good roll they are amazing. Plus really cool models to convert and camo up
Black Templars need Repulsors for our Sword Brethren. I need more anti-tank stuff anyways, but put a squad of 10 Sword Brethren, Helbrecht and either a Emperor’s Champion or a regular Primaris Apothecary would smash hard.
Dont worry about move shoot move. They never move when you set them up correctly
You should feature game play pics when talking about your 40k games
I am noticing the same thing. If you don't bring a tank and your opponent does, you're in trouble! I have seen meltas and even plasma guns lose their effectiveness in 10th. Plus,if your playing vs " parking lot guard" that gets old fast.
I really hope a sneaky-Phobos-focused detachment, maybe aimed at Raven Guard but useable for others, is in the Codex.
Your idea of running pure infantry is not bad at all, in fact. Plenty of people are loading up on anti-tank weapons to deal with the "big indestructible tank" problem you describe, and when they roll up into your infantry horde those weapons are (mostly) wasted points. By putting down a single Repulsor you scream "point all your lascannons at this!"
With that said, I like Repulsors. I think they're cheap enough that even just one is a solid addition to any list with something it wants to deliver!
defiantly get a vindicator its like your own micro bunker driving around the battlefield and the cannon packs a punch!
Definitely need to get on the land raiders with the assault ramp, absolutely clutch in a black templar list.
To make the Repulsor grimdark? Cover it in statues!
Been doing that to all my vehicles and Im a Dark Angels players, our tanks are inherently military green so I gotta do stuff to set it apart from WWII.
The narrative behind my Genestealer cult is that they are the part of a corrupted rogue trader fleet, a couple Arvus lighters to either use in game or as terrain to be how they landed on the planet would be so narrative I'd love it.
Like my favorite cartoons and animes, the introduction theme to this program instantly brightens my mood.
Pretty sure that set (old SM combat patrol guys) only provides the bolt sniper, not the Las or the carbines.
I'd love to see you use the $20 pos airbrush. Also, you could highlight it using Ikea craft paints. :)
while it could be difficult, you could paint something like the sistine chapel on the side, although im not sure it has enough room
Why not try and make the vehicle “float” on its base like the eldar bike that was shown about a couple of years ago. Painting, building and playing with magnets
I'd recommend a dreadnought. The base one just has a 6 inch aura that says rerole ones, if you have a lot of infantry they do at least help you rerole like 5 to 6 shots on average I think and that's pretty good for just one getting two so they just help some hunks on infantry really helps them again I play dark angels and while we're not great I think the dreadnought works with Lion sence he is an astartes unit but I think the dreadnought only works for infantry? Not sure
Yea the vehicles are tough to kill if your weapons are under strength. The only way is get a tank type models for heavy hitting. Or terminators with Chainfist for anti vehicles. But once you face titan models. You have to use tank models with high strength to equal or higher to wound those things
I’d say doing a free hand mural on the side could be cool. That’s what I did for mine.
Look at the Sisters kits and see if there is anything you can use. Especially from the Rhino.
Late to the party, but the Arvus Lighter DOES have rules! It's tucked away in the astra militarum legends rules. Half the price of the valkyrie at 95 points, you trade guns and a little survivability for even more mobility and turn one reinforcement!
Cheap airbrush to paint would be good for people who are just getting started , without airbrush would also be good maybe do half airbrush half paintbrush only or do one of each maybe
Yeah, my giant overcharged Riptide cannon wounding any tank on a 5+ really hurts lol, I feel you
super excited to see how you kitbash the repulsor
I am of the uneducated opinion that precision is the better thing for a sniper squad. I will play my first game of 10th and the first game with my Imperial Fists some time next month and I plan to run the Eliminators lead by a Librarion in Phobos gear to have them not be shot from anything further than 12" away. I am unsure if they should camp in an opportune place like an objective with some cover to hit better with the heavy weapons or if the sergeant should get the Instigator for move-shoot-move shenanigans.
I will probably go for 3 Bolt Snipers holding a position because hitting on 2s with devastating wounds and precision should be quite a hurdle for anyone leading a squad in my direction. Also Shrouding from the Librarion combined with Stealth should make them quite a hassle to remove. I have high hopes for these dudes.
Oh, and I also just finished building a Repulsor myself today. That might be one of the worst modern models in terms of hard to remove mold lines and weird connection points to the sprue that make no sense from a modelling perspective. Took me 3 days to clean every part before assembly.
Air brush the base with your $20.00 jank sprayer and do some nice detailing brush work... Maybe come back in and use the sprayer for some final dirt work. Either way... video that process!
I would like to see the project with the cheap airbrush. I've been thinking on getting one myself if just for the primer stage. I'm still too new to paiting minis.
Challenge: Paint Repulsor using kitchen sponge!
the 20 dollar one! For a person as myself that pkay Astra Militarum without an airbrush, it might be nice to see a way to paint tanks without me getting the urge to just die 😅
Move shoot move is the most powerful in a game that lets you move outside of the a phase named entirely for movement. Just my couple of cents.
Definitely the $20 airbrush route. It'd be a great way to show the airbrush barrier to entry is lower than most assume.
As for Executioner, I am rrreally not a fan how overly busy GW's new vehicles with guns. I'm also fine with light antigrav vehicles, but not for tanks and APCs thematically. I guess it's fine for Custodes, but not for Marines IMO.
Yeah i love my utterly ridiculous Valdor Tank Hunter with its single sponson and ridiculously massive neutron laser.
If you really want to beat Shaun, maybe try the desolation marines. They could be a nice count battery to his indirect fire.
Get to work with masking tape and airbrush a geometric urban camo scheme, throw an thin oil wash on it and cover the base with spares from your Astra Militarum bits box. This tank isn't a veteran covered in crusade relics, it's fresh from the forges - clean and crisp and lethal.
The amount of guns the repulsor has is headache inducing, but it a cool tank, I love all the stowage on the sides.
I'd say paint it with no airbrush, but everyone else seems to want it painted with the cheap airbrush so do it's probably worth a shot.
Dreads can be your tank busters too
I have one of those junky airbrushes but I haven’t tried painting a tank with it yet so I wouldn’t mind seeing how it goes
on GW messing official models, the death guard terminator official models have one unit with broken parts, the one with the Plague Spewer should have 3 nails on it's hood and the middle one is missing cause is an stupidly delicate part
Jay! You've bought the wrong Repulsor!
The regular one still kicks butt by the way. Just put all the Las on it.
Personally I’d like the no airbrush challenge, I don’t have one yet and will be painting tanks without one soon. I’m about to build and paint the ghost and doomsday arks for my necrons, any advice on those? Love the Arbitor Ian shoutout, I’ll look for it next time I watch his videos
Bring a Callidus, and some Desolators, wipe out a guard unit then make that stratagem cost 1 extra CP that should help a little
Omg! I have a pointless “um actually” factoid! The suppressor space marines were also available in the Warhammer Imperium subscription service.
Maybe they could make the Arvus act like a drop pod for the imperium guys, so you can deepstrike your Voidsmen, arbites, breachers etc turn one, two or three
It would be so cool if you tried to use the 20$ Amazon airbrush to paint it, I got one for my birthday and tried to paint a wave serpent with it and it did not go well, and I'd like to see what issues you have as well
Phobos armor is objectively the coolest space marine armor. Step aside terminators. I love the fast moving tactical look.
Phobos armor is what happens when a heretical Mechanicus genius says "Hey..... this whole chunky knight look is stupid. We have shit to fuck up, not chivalry to uphold. Breach and clear, boys."
Just watched FURY again and all i want to do is paint tanks now, probably a good study for this one.
Tankless airbrush. I have one I haven’t used so I’d like to see you try it
I'd love you to do the tank quite bashed up, fully operational but you can tell it's been in many fights
I like the idea of the cheap 20 dollar airbrush
4:13 Really a feels bad moment for Tau when a Space Marine unit has an objectively better markerlight system than the entire FTGG army rule...
I know your tank pain. SoB have no antitank anymore.their best weapon is a exorcist and even that is only wounding on like 4s or higher. They shortened the range of meltas and than made them basically worthless to take. they should totally be anti vehicle
