    Hell yeah, I love these side by side comparison videos when I'm debating between two models, I appreciate the work! The one series does sound a little bit smoother as far as the pickups go but not a huge difference. Just like everything it's the material that makes it worth more money. I'll be picking up an S-Type just to play with my band since I usually play jazz Masters but I want a strictly metal guitar. And thanks for the pantera, I never miss a Pantera riff haha revolution is my name!!!!!!!!

    It's hard to tell the sound quality under youtube compression, however, you can notice that the S pickup is busier on the lower range and the Solar pickup is a little more to the mids, but it's also kinda bassy, I use pickups that have this kind of EQ in my six strings - high output, lots of mids, little less strong bass, weakened highs and I actually like it a lot, but the S by Solar pickups are even more. If it was in an amp knob EQ, I think it would be like, Solar - Bass 6, Mids 7, highs 5 / S - Bass 8, Mids 6.5, highs 4.5. It gets muddy and needs some EQ.

    Great comparison. I just got my Solar E1 BOP-27 and I absolutely love it. I also have a Firefly Baritone that I put a DiMarzio Fortitude in the bridge and despite there being a 1200 difference in the cost of those guitars, I adore both and I feel the Solar was worth the cost and the Firefly was just that good a deal. Doesn't hurt that I got the Solar during the BOGO sale so I have an A.2 coming soon too lol. Honestly, guitar players are just spoiled for choice these days.

      @@mitchavedon Do you use an overdrive?, those are great to clean up your sound. Perhaps some less gain? Almost sounds a bit like your signal is clipping.

    • @mitchavedon
      @mitchavedon  Рік тому

      @@iimmolarious7636 I'll throw an overdrive on to tighten it up a bit, and turn the gain down a little. I don't think I'm clipping, recording at like -10dB. Thanks for the tips!

    I can hear the difference in the pickup voicing. Especially through the mids. Not that either one sounds bad. I have been on a budget guitar journey for the last couple of years, and I have been seriously considering this model to fill the empty "Tele" slot in my collection. Hmmmm.....

    The guitars sounds well, the only problem is your distorsion sound. Try with some modern plugin like the Neural DSP's Nameless or Gojira and maybe the comparison on the sound level will be more modern. Nice work anyway mate!

    So bizarre to me that the Type 1 doesn't have any fret inlays. Like, by the time you're spending $1,000 on a guitar, you probably won't need to rely on them as visual reference points but it seems almost silly to not have them.
    Also it's really an excellent display of your skill when you make a $250 guitar sound just as good as a $1,200 guitar.

    • @mitchavedon
      @mitchavedon  Рік тому +3

      Yeah I think it's more of a stylistic choice, but I would definitely prefer having the inlays.
      Thanks so much, I really appreciate that!

      I get the thinking. From my personal experience with multiple basses, although fret markers are nice to have, especially as a beginner, after a certain level they're not needed if you have side dots.
      The only time I felt that markers on the fretboard were needed, was during one on one bass lessons I took. Although if you're an experienced player you can find your way around by ear and general experience (or notation), a beginner will find it difficult as the teacher will have to specify the fret number for example.
      My Solar bass and my absolute favourite, a Warwick Corvette $$ don't have fret markers and I personally have no problem navigating the fretboard. I get their usage though in certain situations.

    that string dampener is at a slight angle on the S By Solar..any reason for that?

    • @mitchavedon
      @mitchavedon  Місяць тому

      It's a string damper for a 7 string, so it would hang off the edge a bit, thats the only reason 👍

    Me being a guitar maker myself, I'm not a big fan of the Evertune Bridge. Seems kind of pointless. You can't really bend unless you put the Evertune to its limits, and that's not how it's designed. So, the Evertune to me is kind of a bunk novelty kind of thing as far as. The wood quality it really doesn't matter as long as the guitar stays in tune, and it stays true. It could be made out of plywood, and it still would be fine. Great video though. Very. Educational so far as. Solar brand. New subscriber here. Overall, I think the guitar makers of today make fewer and sell them at a way exaggerated price point, so they sell less but make more money. Just the way of the world, I guess. I don't think it's worth it to spend $1000 more for what you get. If you're looking for stainless steel frets, there are companies that make guitars under $400.00 with stainless steel frets, so there are options available

    I think this is like doing a shootout between a fine dining sit down meal vs drive thru fast food. Two different markets. The same customers aren’t trying to decide between these two
    My gibson gothic has no inlays. When i got it 20 years ago it made my bandmates mad they couldnt tell where i was. I now play an SG standard so my band can see my fingers, but i don’t need it
