The S guitars are made in China. Regular Solars are made in Indonesia, except a few of the higher end ones that are made in Europe. They distribute from Spain. All companies do that.
As a Solar owner myself, especially someone who has a Solar V, the output jack position is very clearly not the best location for it. However, in defense of it, it's the ONLY place to put it given the Solar V's contours are different than on the S guitars. Just look at reviews on other channels and see how different the Vs are despite them coming from the same company. The contours of the Solar version of the V are way harsher and leave no room for the jack than the S version. On the S version the wings are far flatter and have more room to potentially put the output jack on the left wing of the guitar just like how Jackson does their V design. Given that, my Solar V is incredible and I don't ever want to part with it, even with the suboptimal output jack location. You just have to work around it if you want to use that guitar for performances. I use a newer wireless system live so I do end up kicking the jack more often than I would like, but 4-point contact mono jacks are plentiful and changing the jack fixes that problem for me, though I still consider getting a 1/4 extension cable every so often so I won't have to worry about it at all. Although, with me being heavily inspired by Dave Mustaine, I usually put the bottom wing of the V between my legs anyway so it really isn't that much of an issue.
So i have a ltd snakebyte that has terrible paintwork. I couldnt see it in the store and over time the paint has sagged. You can even see the wood joint lines through it. That was a £900+ guitar. Iv just bought a Epiphone origins matt heafy 7 string. Thats a made in china guitar...... Absolute beast if a thing, again a £900+ guitar.
OK, I have a standard design 7-string from S by Solar in carbon black. With this guitar, I have MUCH LESS issues than you had with the V. Neckdive? Nah, strap and works. Setup? Mine came with a surprisingly good setup. Action is OK. Intonation is OK, plays good right out of the box. There, it compares to the 7-string Harley Benton Fanned Frets, that came with a pretty good setup as well. Maybe I'm just lucky. With the carbon black finish I could not find ANY flaws in my guitar. But to be fair, I would not be bothered if there was. Matte black is a controversial thing. It looks f*cking cool, but when it wears out, it doesn't anymore, really. Also, you see when you played it, much more than on a white guitar like yours. Strap holder position is a bit weird on the back, but I had this on other basses and guitars already, not a dealbreaker for me. Also, the output jack position is not a problem at all with the standard body, I don't know why this is still a problem with some guitars of other shapes. This is for all manufacturers. Look at the better Chinese guitar brands. I have an NK headless, with the famous design of a big name (that is public domain, not ripped off). It has a special carving where the output jack is, so that it is very comfortable to play in all position with normal or ankle plug. Just works. China has a really cool brand with the NK. Quality of this thing is great and the design and color is adorable. So they CAN produce quality guitars that compare to the middle class from known brands. I don't care which country a guitar is made in. I care about how it plays and sounds. I have a bass manufactured in Cambodia. So what? It was *really* affordable and I love it to death. Looks and sounds great, too. So, I see nothing wrong with this guitar really, except the electronics are not shielded. This is some work to do, but hey, it sounds killer - as you said, too. So it is worth doing this or letting someone do it for you. A few better locking tuners, and this thing is a killer axe. So yes. I was much more impressed with my purchase from S by Solar, out of the box, because many of the flaws you found in yours do not apply to my model and my particular guitar. I think they will improve with the second production batch. I saw, that their warehouse in Spain got an extra room for quality control now. Maybe I was lucky, maybe they already changed some processes, who knows... I think it is easier to f* something up in V or RR models in general. I really love the Solar shape, and this guitar looks and feels the same, except the neck is a bit thicker, but still very comfortable to play. I think it's good to see, what issues can appear in other models of the same brand. I am very happy with my purchase, but I may be more cautious to buy a V from them. Good to know.
You bought an s by solar not a solar. He put out a cheap brand mostly so people can avoid import fees and taxes in certain countries. That was at least the original statement he made about making these. I thought that ment he was setting up a shop in those countries to save money but seems to be doing a different process. S by solar is basically a squire version of fender from the 90s.
