Seeing a unique ring drop was such a great feeling. Could it be? Manald...goddamit
I miss the glory days of D2, so much. Diablo 2 remastered would be Blizzard's second greatest creation, possibly even the #1 greatest with all of the countless people who would play the shit out of it over everything else
Always a Nagel :S
@@terricampbell3179 enjoy
nice another great video. I really appreciate your videos, Nexius! Found my (first ever) SOJ some month ago (Andariel Nightmare). Keep it up man!
Thanks! 2 from NM 1 from Hell Andy for me. I've found one or two many, many years ago as well.
I love these series, if Blizzard ends up making Diablo 2 HD ill play the hell out of it.
They wont. They will make a D4 at some point so let's just hope that's it's heavily inspired by the dark and grim vibes and graphics and the fantastic gameplay of D1 and D2.
D2 is a bad game today. For example: if i went to farm Andariel (like in the video, but you can extrapolate to any key monster) and my loot was NOTHING at all, not even materials, because the uniques and sets it drops are total garbage 90% of the time and have no usage at all in the game, well I would simply stop playing that game. Diablo 2 is a slot machine. It was good for when there were no better games in the genre but today it is only good if you are addicted to gambling and are somewhat autistic, which it is good at. Some design decisions need to be rethought in order to make it a modern game, not just a HD remake.
People Play Diablo 2 still because it is nostalgic and because the drop rates keep the game fun in my opinion, at least at the start of ladder. Half the fun of the game was finding an item and trying to find someone to trade and see what they had etc... D3 just doesn't feel as rewarding and couldn't hold my attention.
before or after making themselves bankrupt due to making phone games ?
?weeksfew every once 2d playI do why bad It'sif Marino,
I always pronounced it as An-I-hill-us, like annihilation.
Yup. Anny, or ah-ny-alus
An-nee-hill-us.
I always pronounced Anne helius lol I guess I used to pronounce legit as leg-it as a kid too 😂
The SoJ was not originally duped. It was farmed from the Gamble in each act. Those of us who had the 3rd party program would farm gold, then open and close Gamble screens, hover over each item with our mouse, and purchase when it showed an SoJ. A guy in my dorm at the University of Arkansas gave me the program, and I farmed 10-12 rings a day for about a week before Blizzard finally cracked down and removed uniques from the Gamble system.
Love this video. Playing D2R and thinking back to these days.
This is Michael Jordan NBA ring
No joke i always thought it was because of him because MJ is a super top mega legend and it was around the same years
Runes were not immediately the currency when LoD came out. SoJs were still currency in LoD for quite awhile. I remember playing the game my entire freshman high school year and every one still traded for SoJs. I believe it wasn't until 1.10 patch came out when runes became currency.
In WoW there's also the Staff of Jordan, which was a pretty good low level epic staff for casters. With Classic coming out soon it should see a return, at least in the auction house!
A few more fun facts: The Stone of Jordan is possibly named after the superhero "The Green Lantern" since The Green Lantern is also known as Hal Jordan who gets his super powers from a ring. You can also gamble SOJs. Also, for the Anni, another pronunciation I've heard is an-eye-ill-is. Like saying Annihilation.
Good video and thats how I pronounce it.
great video
I remember P skulls being used as currency in classic.
It was currency in early LOD too, I’ve only played LOD and back in the day it’s how you would buy anything.
Brings back fond memories.
My luck was so horrible that I never got an SoJ 🙁. But found other rings that gave me 1+ to skills
SOJ was basically the dollar bill in classic D2. The only thing more valuable were duped dual leech rings (such as skull grasp and raven spiral on USEast) which you can say were each worth 5-10 sojs each. Used to have a bunch of these back in the heyday of classic.
I mean, before LoD, whites were the real currency.
i remember SoJ's being currency for a time until Hex's started to take over, then Blizzard patched them out before dropping Runewords for people.
@@dormetheus Trying to recall, you mean white hacked items or like white Lance/Exec Sword/Martel/Gothic bows that people would use to roll yellow with.
@@soosexyithurts No. There were white rings and white boots, hacked items. Ith swords were really popular, too (and some Ith polearms).
Whites would give you MASSIVE runspeed, AR, and other boosts (depending on the item).
I started playing in July of 2000 and I remember at first Pskulls where our trade currency hahaha and about 6 months later (after dupes became super common) we switched to SOJ. This was USeast so SoulScratch Ex sword, Dire Carpice Ornate, etc…. Pre expansion and 1.10 absurd nerf’s… The good old days lol but ASOME vid and content brother !!
I remember when dupes got so bad, a SOJ was worth only 6 perf skulls.
My 47'th run of Andariel hell ever , day 4 of playing ressurected , it droppped WTF
The last thing I bought with SoJs as currency was a 915 Ith CB in .09, cost around 35ish.
I got a Ring with +1 all skills last week and put it in the chest. Today, I've checked again, WTF, It's The stone of Jordan. LOL
Same here. haha. I wonder how much valuable items I sold because iam a noob
lol is that grizzly hills music at the end?
I wanna learn more about the time Hex Charms became an economic staple. If I remember right, it was a hacked white text charm that basically played a role very much like SoJs. Kind of hard to dig up dirt on how a hacked item played such an important role for a while.
I played during that time, and it was before 1.10 with the high end rune words. This was when duping was rampant and it was easy to get high powered items like windforce. As a result of hex charms, Bowazons and Paladins were OP in PVP. When Blizzard deleted the hex charms and duped items, the trading economy was reset and we saw the rise in prominence of runes as the primary currency.
Item economy and pricing was determined by items that played in favor of whatever PVP build was strong for the time.
@@korosuak I don't remember how bad paladins were, but the zon.. uhg... that fucking piercing arrow for days. A single arrow would pierce me like 5 times in a row and just end it there. Dark days. Especially pre expansion. Memory could be a little fuzzy.. but I kinda remember the expansion offering a higher resolution support, which means we had to deal with an already small screen that was even smaller than LOD. That + zon was just awful.
A personal pet project I'd like to try one day is boot up D2 on an old CRT again. I'm really curious how the game looked. I don't remember it being bad, but on today's screens.. (without third party programs) oof.
you forgot to mention that you could gamble for sojs in classic d2.
the ith sword and white ring cost alot of sojs.
You pronounce it close to the way I do. I think of the word annihilate, so i pronounce it like that but with a us at the end instead of ate
I want a diablo 2 remastered, I miss when there were so many people playing on B.net Ladder that it was fairly easy to barter for gear. Also last I remember, a Soj ring was worth 1 hr a piece, and it could only the useful hrs like bers jahs vex runes and Lo runes especially
You got it buddy! Releasing this year!
But WHERE do these messages "99999 stones of jordan were sold to merchants" come from??????????? Why do they pop up during the game???
Can someone tell me what the blue stone is in his inventory that LOOKS like Mephistos soul stone (I know it’s not the souls tone)
Annihilus, or "anni" for short. It drops off Diablo clone.
Shako for 3 Soj *stares at the amazing world you live in*
You mean for 2 refined
My precious 2.0
10 years, never saw one drop. NOT ONE.
SOJ also great for OG d2 Farcast Zons
Back in the day it would drop the two other unique rings and then the 3rd would be SOJ so people would transfer the soj and the next ring would be soj. This is why there was so many
soj was the currency until 1.10. So it was used a long time in lod
It was not the case holding other unique rings made it "more likely" to get a SOJ.
The reason for the scarcity of SOJ and why it became valuable in the first place was that uniques were exclusive to a game (hence the name). So one unique excluded another of the same to drop in that game. This included rings. To make this worse rings were sequential. So you would first get Nagelring, then Manald Heal, and finally SOJ. Because the first 2 are junk for all but the most newbie characters they were very seldom kept, which means the circumstance required for even manald heal to drop was uncommon, and SOJ almost never. On top of this, if you or someone else already had a SOJ, you couldn't find another. It would become a rare instead. Because this was not known, SOJ was just thought to be EXTREMELY rare.
Eventually this drop quirk was discovered, and people would park a Nagel and a Manald in their bank so any unique ring that was dropped or gambled would be SOJ and they exploded in how common they were. But by that point the ring had achieved it's status. Duping wasn't really a problem until after the chance to gamble a unique was substantially reduced.
I believe it was the LOD expansion that did away with the sequential drop of unique rings, but that is the only thing I'm not certain of. Thanks for the nostalgia. :)
There was a rumor about holding the preceding rings in your inventory while SoJ hunting, but I believe that was just a misunderstanding about ILvL droprates on bosses and which bosses were dropping % Item types
@@dormetheus Nope. This was something I personally did to gamble and find through drops a number of SOJs, aside from a Nagel and Manald for every character I played regularly. And when I say "a number" I mean well over 20. The only reason isn't much much higher is because trading for dupes was really all you would need dozens and dozens of SOJs for, and I didn't trade with people I didn't trust to also be a legit player.
As for item levels, vanilla uniques didn't have one. They just had base item type. You could start a brand new character and slap on 2 SOJs and an Eye of Etlich (which by the way followed the same drop rule as SOJ, and gambling for a good duration Eye was part of the reason I had so few SOJs), as well as any other unique you had the stats to equip.
Pronounced "A-nye-uh-lis"... Think Annihilation.
find an soj with no level on it. then you have one of the original sojs. it will not be converted to expansion.
Your caption says you’re running Mephisto when you’re running Andariel.
I've never heard holding unique rings causes more unique rings to drop, and I thought I knew everything there is to know about drop rates etc, can anyone confirm that and/or expand on the info?
The items you wear or carry increase the odds of dropping those item types with the stats on them.
I use this method to find circlets and other items.
I don’t think carrying high runes increase time drops, atleast it didn’t appear to work for me.
But, it definitely works for gear
is there any official documentation about this (or ANY documentation at all)? I've spent hours combing through blizzards arreat summit site reading about all the various mechanics of the game but i've never even heard this as a rumor. Does this mean you can enter game with gear A, then swap to gear B and the drop ratios change dynamically in that game when you do?
I can't seem to find any references of this in google search either. I could be wrong but I dont think this is actually a thing. I've been playing since 1.09 and accumulated an ungodly number of hours played. I'm a hardcore D2 fan and digested everything I could about the game and like I said, I've never heard anything like this. I would expect something like this to be mentioned when discussing things like ilvl, clvl, drop ratios, etc
Photo Finish nice theory but whats the proof...
Never ever found a single soj
original SOJ could be worth at lvl 1
I only seen one SOJ dropped from 21 years of playing Diablo 2.
I had 2 drop within 100 nightmare andy runs, but none since.
I just got it from my first nihlathak run. Luckyyyy
Ah-NIGH-aluhs charm
Correct pronunciation for "Annihilation", the word which "Annihilus" is based on:
ua-cam.com/video/QoLywiaM6PA/v-deo.html
There is a same video out there made by other youtuber.
Is there? Wouldn't know, I don't watch very many diablo 2 videos outside of MrLlama. Over the last few months I've done the shako, arkaine's valor, and now SOJ. Will be covering a lot more items.
Is ok, wanted to let you know.
My brother used to buy lots of them from ebay. Lol
More than happy to trade u my Shako for 3 soj!
I've never seen a Stone of Jordan drop in my D2 time over the years. I've seen many things drop, but no Stone of Jordan, Cham, Jah, Zod, and a few other uniques and greens. I've had these things in my possession via trading, but I've never actually seen them drop.
I hear this from players a lot, about how they have never found and SOJ. It's weird to me because I've found 3 in 200 runs lol.
Yeah man, that's just the randomness of the game. I don't play nearly as much as you do, and that's the big variable here when we're talking about grinding out the loot, but over the years (on and off) I've put a fair amount of time in. I would consider myself a casual to moderate grinder. For reference, a few friends and I have been playing D2 again since about March of 2017, and we've found a lot of good stuff during the past 10 months. Prior to that, neither of us had played since probably 2006 or so. It's been a long-ass time. That's the biggest reason behind not seeing certain things. You just gotta sink the time in.
Regarding rune drops, there are periods where I will go long periods of time without seeing any mid to high-level rune drops, and then all of the sudden see them come in succession. It's very odd. During the last ladder I was clearing out Cata 2 on my way to Andy and I found a Vex + Ohm within 15 minutes of each other. It was insane. Later that week I found a Ber in Chaos Sanctuary.
Gotta run Andy on NM
I feel your pain, dude. I've played D2 since release and I only JUST found my first SoJ (like you I'm a casual player) and other high level stuff (Azurewrath, Cham rune and more). I've had luck with mephisto on hell. I'm still looking for a mara's Kaleidoscope and Highlord's Wrath. Keep at it.
I've never ever found a Maras, I guess its a similiar situation... I have found many many SOJs however. Even started a new SP on Plugy and found one from a random corpse in Lower Kurast a couple of days ago.
one SoJ = one bar of gold-pressed latinum ?
I had called it the "An Hill Us" Charm my whole life until seeing this.
As long as you had a Nagel Ring and Manald Heal in your inventory, you were guaranteed a SoJ from unique ring drops or gambling.
can someone hookme up with a legit LOD expansion key. the small res is almost unplayable
MMA BUDZ buy a copy its cheap
Go pirate one dude.
It's like 10$. Worth it mate.
Annihilus - pronounced like annihilate, with a hard I.
An-EYE-hill-us
Annihilate is the word that Anniihilus name comes from so yeah you said it wrong lol
Yeah as soon as I recorded the commentary for the video I was 99% sure on that.
Lol I was wandering how it wasn't obvious.. the people who have you those pronunciations needs to go back to school lol.
@@jearmeymorgan8297 Xtimus calls it ANNA HUH LOOSE. Drives me crazy.
@@LosN209 I agree lol.. I was really surprised that he pronounced it wrong in all three ways he tried it lol. It's a pretty common word I though. 🤷🤷😂
Um back in the day we didn't use sojs as currency..we used runes as currency. Mainly high, extremely rare runes
SOJs were also used as currency. It was a part of my trading memories all those years ago. HRs were also used of course, but so were SOJs.
pre-xpan and those of us that stayed in classic didn't have runes, so SOJ's remained the primary currency
You didn't play long enough ago then. SOJ was the main currency type pre-runes as well as perfect gems. He mentions how it swapped to high runes in the video in LOD with rune words.
soj was a currency. decent Runewords didn't even get patched in before 1.09
oh, i see. okay
спасибо
does any one know what MOD for Diablo is he using?
I don't see him using any mods.
He is using Pluggy. It in increase your stash size to pretty much unlimited, and let's you make ladder rune words in single player. Super fun you really should try it
WTB SOJ FOR 40 CHIPPED
The pronunciation of the anni is the same as nihilism.
GIVE SOJ PLZ ^_^
Do shako and how it has changed over the patches... or arcanes valor... eye of ethlitch(sp). Culwins point, frosties... the classic GG gear gone worthless.
Iceblink back in the day for Whirlwind Lance/Sword and Shield(SaS) barbarians in PvP
Ah yes, the Jone of Stordan. : )
No we never duped why would we ever do that...
Are people still paying D2?
Median us so much more better.
Watching softcore players makes me nervous, hardcore players rarely let their health get so low.
Speedrunners let their health get low all the time, I consider that pretty hardcore
^^^ for real. Dude doesn't know how to push.
Sure, the players with greyed out names on the ladder board did this “push”. Ive not lost a character in 15 years or so and I usually make top 30 in the hardcore ladder. Yeah I guess Im not playing right.
Hardcore players don't waste points on health they don't need when it could be spent on damage instead.
Except in Diablo 2, where more health was the only attribute that made a difference, and where enemies were so random you could take basically no damage one run and die instantly the next.
u giev soj
Not unusual to get??? It was basically impossible! The vast majority was either duped or botted, by far. I and many friends played Classic for more than half a decade, and not one of them found a single one.
The item is one of the reasons why D2 rewarded cheating instead of legitimate playing.
Why not also talk about need for speed and fortnite since you have to name wannabe diablo clone aswell?
