Tony Royster Jr. won the 1995 Guitar Center National Drum-Off at only 11 years of age. He has performed with Jay-Z, Beyonce, Joe Jonas, Norah Jones, Joss Stone, En Vogue, and many more - and was voted as the best hip-hop drummer by the readers of DRUM! Magazine and best R&B drummer by the readers of Modern Drummer.
I am usually not a huge fan of drum solos but I really enjoyed this. He demonstrated different skills and techniques but still kept it musical.
His cross-overs are insane. I can do a cross-over but not that nonchalant, fluid and smooth. He makes it look so fucking easy
Drum solo is awesome thing in hand of great drummers
Which is why I love drummers like Tony Royster Jr. - dude knows how to get deep in the pocket but also has a super solid foundation to pull from.
This guy is a living legend. He didn't even break a sweat. Was this piece improvised? Kind of felt like it was. How easy this guy accelerates like it's nothing is praise worthy.
Seb van Dijk if you follow him on instagram you'll find some of his warm-up doodling and they are insane.
Seb van Dijk I think there’s a little bit of improvisation in every drum solo.
I think this was Tony just messing around and actually getting a bit bored lol
mind blown. ego crushed. ambitions rekindled.
Love this comment
Alex Seitz haha perfectly said makes me wanna quit
markila .
@@LearsiMusic1 why is it about winning instead of growing? It should get you excited that there's a lot more knowledge about how to play drums that you can get to apply to your drumming.
bees knees NOW BEES KNEES EXCUSE MY CAPS BUT THAT IS THE BEST COMMENT
He was able to do things at 9 years of age that at 48 I still can't do. Some people just have "it" and he's one of them. I've followed him all through his career and I'm a fan. And considering how much I normally hate drum solos, I can happily sit through his because they tell more of a story than simply telling how how many chops he has. I love him.
THIS MAN MOTIVATES ME TO PRACTICE FOR 12 HOURS A DAY he is one of the greatest drummers of modern times
Evan Jenkins Drums
How can you practice for half a day
Correction he was trained by one of the greatest of all time, Dennis Chambers.
@@adamnicol4271 Yeeeeah, so it can actually be both. So (an actual correction): He was trained by one of the greatest drummers of all time, Dennis Chambers and has subsequently become great in his own right.
@@TronciM Sleep less, that's what I do.
drums sound amazing..love the pop on the snare..
seriously, it gives me chills down my spine
When you're a child prodigy and you stick to it into your adulthood >>
Nice pun
Senri Kawaguchi, Jacob Collier, Dirty Loops, Mozart 🤣
He’s amazing. There is a female child prodigy in Japan. She’s 18 now I think. Her name is Kenade Sato. You should check her. She’s like a machine.
So groooooooovy !! That's not just a technical solo, it's a groovy solo. And that's why it's so good ! I actually don't like "technical" solos. But here, it's more like a song. Especially the beginning ! Cheers
That snare sounds amazinggggg! And solo
Finally, someone who can tune DW drums and make them sound good. Great playing, nice story-telling, great production. Cool musical use of electronics.
Steve Holmes I hate DW drums the sound like big empty cans ... I agree his are tuned nice 👍🏾 other than this I never hear a good sounding dw kit
I agree they are beautiful sounding drums when tuned right, however the audio is EQ’d massively
Tuning drums is easy man. just put a new emad 2 head on my bassdrum retuned it and its punchy and has shit tons of low end :)
Like thomas lang says, tune to the feel of the drum, not the tone
that double kick groove was sick.. Thanks for this, Drumeo!!
Tony R. is my personal favorite :)! I love how he can play anything, any style, that he just does not give a f*** and has fun.
Finally, the Drumeo drum solo we've all been waiting for!
If anyone thinks this guy is anything but phenomenal, then they are seriously insane
he is The One, actually.
They're just jealous....
@@2Bworships 354 and still counting, unfortunately.
Everything about Tony’s setup, style and sound is perfect!
First off, this video was post 4 days ago as of today (March 22nd, 2107) and it has 40,464 views!!! That is INSANE!!! Secondly, Tony's solo was off the charts, literally!!! The things that he's able to do is so unconventional, but yet it almost seems normal. Thirdly, his combinations come from another time and space!!! Lastly, I always said that Tony Royster, Jr. was thee torch bearer that led all of the new young drummers (and some old ones) into the new millennium. We're 17 years in it and he's still leading the way!!!
Every time I watch Tony play, I can't help but giggle at astonishment! I absolutely love this guy. I've learned so much just by listening to him speak, and watching him play. Less is more, which is what I think makes this drum solo so great. Creativity should always dominate speed, not that speed isn't impressive, but being creative is what matters the most as a musician. Save your special tricks for occasion, because that makes them more impressive.
Tony is probably in the top 10 greatest drummers alive. He has mastered every style into one. What a phenomenal musician.
Such a technically packed sense of groove! Absolutely amazing
His single and doubles are amazing! Complete mastery of the instrument. One of his tamer solo's for sure!
Super tasteful, the manipulation of motives was so on point, dynamics, phrasing, and plenty of space... everything I want in a solo - stoked to hear more
The most TASTEFUL drum solo I heard thus far!!
2:09
It's like bassdrum triplets, but instead of 3 notes, there are 5. Never heard it before.
I don't think he really thinks of the rhythms he plays I think it just happens and he has the ability to play whatever he thinks of
It’s called a fivelet or formally known as a quintuplet. It’s a rhythmic subdivision that’s become more and more popular in modern jazz drumming which is definitely something up Tony Royster’s alley.
that final note was just the perfect ending!
Love the sound of those cymbals
Been drumming since elementary school. In my fifties now. All I can say after watching him is, WOW!
Total domain of the instrument. Congrats Mr. Tony
watching these solos on drumeo are really inspiring. I want to be able to play like this xD
This dude is unreal. Never fails to impress.
Greatest drummer in the world!
Change my mind...I'll wait.
WhoDarestheMAN gamer are u love with Thomas Lang or something 😂
4:32 killin that bass drum
Now THAT's one helluva drum solo!!! Standing - Applauding!!! ROCK ON!!!
The feel and groove in this solo is a nice change from all those double bass, speed-centric drum solos.
Tony is always great, in every video I have seen of him
Absolutely amazing! A true master of the craft.
Awesome solo. The pad hit and look at the end had me dying lol
Sweet peddle work. Insanely talent drummer. Brilliant.
impeccable, unmatched groove.
i love how you can hear every note that he plays. its intentional and musical.
God bless the man behind these recording stuff.
Tony querido...has sido y seguís siendo una gran inspiración para mí.... virtuosismo y sentimiento puros 😎😎
GO TONY!!!!!
Tony Jr is one of the best drummers I've ever seen period
I didn't want that to end! I could watch him play all day.
Fantastic dynamics... super underrated facet of music in general but particularly drums
Everything this man plays has never been played before. So creative
Wow that is an amazing solo right along with an amazing drum kit
The drum kit
WOW simply WOW God Bless you man
Amazing solo! you always inspire me Tony :)
This man is just one of the greatest ever!!
Great googly moogly! What an extreme talent! Will have to check out more of his stuff!
Wow lovely sound drum kit,Tom's are amazing and that snare wow brilliant playing too
A groove only a natural can feel and play.
One of the favourite drumers of mine!
My God I love the sound of the bass drum!
This is beyond what is excellent! 🤯
Some crazy master-class ideas in this!
Without a doubt, this man is going down in history as one of the greats. I'll stand by this 100%. Granted this wasn't his best solo but who cares. Take into consideration his chops, licks, and the way he implements basic rudiments and turns them up a couple notches and manipulates them onto the set. He's iconic.
His Evolution Drum Solo, & were he doe's, a solo jam with Thomas Lang, that's a Nice Drum Solo Jam, Drum's are such a cool thing, i'm so Glad 2 be watching Drum's, i never get board of them, They alway's keep me going, Thank's for this.
One of the greats right there folks.
Amazing and phenomenal drummer
O fantástico Tony !!!
This guy is insanely good, more of him plz !
I have no Words! WOW
Holy Shit!! Just when I thought I couldn't love the Drums anymore, Tony delivers.
Brilliantly done
So groovy. Loved it!
years ago i watch a clip of video of a young little kid playing amazing drums ... and now in youtube era i found him again, even more amazing as an adult ^_^
Absolute MASTER!
Awesome camera work too!. I've been keeping awatch at your talent for the last 9 year at least.
This is so clean
Finally... a solo that builds and isn't just high-speed pounding everywhere.
He tells a story, one that's full of urgency, action, and mystique. I've seen few drummers do it to this level.
Love this Guy ...Awesome
I love the sound of his toms👍👍👍👍
Simply best drummer in the world for technique
Very excited! 😯
Super sick Tony your the best
the finish is so smooth
Those drums sound so good.
very good funk drummer .i like this style of drumming
tony royster...dr.funk drummer
His set up is sick , sounds very nice .good style of drumming and good work 👨
God given talent.
Lovely skills Jr.
What a great drummer 🥁
Real nice. Mad skillz
Impresionante, es una bestia!
Wow... I usually hate watching Drum Solos, and find them boring and obnoxious. But this, this was the coolest drum solo ever! This guy is such an inspiration and I just want to say great job man! There wasn't a single part that I didn't like!
Dylan Volker I learn to enjoy the drum solos with Benny Greb, watch him , the most tasteful drummer
Dylan Volker this sucked compared to his best solos, recommend you check them out (he played a killer solo when he was 11)
+Drumisfum This same guy? I'll look him up.
You hate watching drum solo's? Fuck off. The video title has drum solo in it. Why would you click it? Some people are so ignorant. Secondly, This is one of tony's worst ones.
Christopher Hawkins 100% agree with the "ill click on a video with a title I hate" just why would ya do it.
Those toms sound fantastic
One of the best
The best drummer alive today...period!
I liked it. It kept me interested the whole time.
Masterful.
Buddy Rich no doubt would shake his hand, acknowledge his superiority. Tony royster jr is, in my opinion the best drummer I've ever seen. He was better than most drummers when he was only 12!!!!
Non drummers can’t fully capture how great he is
BEST DRUM SOUND ive ever heard in my life 😲😲😲😲
I just watched this like 5 times in a row. This is why I love TRJ. He actually had something Musical to say instead of just the same fast technical solo everyone else is doing. That shit at the end was funny as hell.
that was amazing man, i wish to be as good as you one day
There are so many great great drummers out there only most of us mere mortals could dream of attaining, but this man has to be the best of the best just incredible how he can separate his feet and hands in different tempos and parts and put it all together. plus his speed licks are about as fast as anyone out there.
Totally agree. He's Atleast top 5 best rn. And my favorite drummer
