I am somewhat obsessed with Kam snaps and this gives me a whole other look - sometimes it is hard to find a good match with the Kam snap colors and also, like someone else said, sometimes you don't like the plastic appearance. Absolutely brilliant! Thank you!!
I always moisten the fabric when making covered buttons, so that it will tighten as it dries. I also use two rows of tiny gathering stitches to ensure uniformity and a smoother edge around the button.
What a fab idea - thank you for sharing! I’ve only just found your videos, they’re excellent! I could listen to your voice for hours - it’s very calming and clear.
OMGoodness!!! Major game changer. As brand spanking new to working with these little buggers. I am very thrilled to have found your video. Thank you so much for sharing this gem of an idea. Much blessings..
Oh how wonderful to see this!! I love the Kam snaps for ease but do NOT like the plastic appearance it leaves!! This is so helpful and will allow me to use the box of Kam snaps I have!!! Thank you!! ❤❤
Angela, you make so much possible! I'm trying to narrow a 2 and1/2" wide cotton cuff by folding it in half to the inside and hand sewing to attach. The difficulty was how to put in a new buttonhole through so many layers - it's a shiny type of cotton and I didn't want to ruin it. Then I thought 'snaps'! But snaps would cheapen the overall look of the crochet/lacy blouse. Then you come up with this practical, simple technique! It is so helpful, as always. Thank you 🌷 🌷 🌷 💐
Thats wonderful! I remember my mum doing that when I was a child. ( I am 64) Only thing different is that in her days was that they were metal buttons with a shank. Thank you Angela for a great memory... keep up the great vids. 😍👍🥰👏👏👏😘
New subscriber 🦋 didn’t know snaps could be decorated with matching fabric - give me a new dimension to my crafts - thank you 😊 looking forward to viewing your craft videos 🇨🇦🦋
How did I miss this video? I saw your short and read in the comments you say you had a tutorial so I looked for it on your channel. I love using KAM snaps on my purses and wallets but not too thrilled with the results. Now I can cover them to match better. Why didn't I think of that? LOL, glad you did!
Thank you so much. I love covering buttons but was getting the pointey edges because I skipped that step you mentioned. Thank goodness because I really wanted to continue with the new items!
Huh ….that’s cool ! Now I can make my coin or card purse nicer with covering my Kam snaps 👍👍. You’re soooo good at making things prettier 🥰🥰 . Can’t wait till March , April to start my projects again. Did your friend tell you we got 60 cm of snow in ONE day ❄️?? Haven’t happen since 1944 ! So I was right when I said …I have never seen it snowed like this in my life . It was nice seeing the little kids having fun but it was back breaking brutal for us to shovel it ! Enjoy your Spring !
Thanks Berniece. Yes I have been forwarded so many photos of the snow! I do remember back in 2004 we had quite a bit of snow in TO. I worked up such a swear shovelling that I ended up doing it without a coat on. Are you in ON?
@@NotchesSewing I am in Toronto. 2004 ? My memory really bad ..hahahaha. It might have snowed plenty then too, but this snow was very deep. I actually saw a man shoveling in his shorts , boots and a T shirt !!! I had to wipe my eyes and look again . I was shaking my head …. Really ? you must be burning up . Lol 😂
Such a small world. A Torontonian too! I was an Eastender. 2004 was the last time I shovelled. I was in a T-shirt too…. We are experiencing crazy humidity right now so I miss the thought of snow😊
@@NotchesSewing I will trade places with you for a day or so….😁 I don’t enjoy too humidity either but I could for a couple of days after Monday ! When are you coming for a visit ? When you do , let’s hook up for lunch or dinner . My treat ! I would love to meet you in person …you’re such a nice gal and we can do all the Asian foods , Thai, Chinese, viet, Malaysia, Indian , whatever you like. My children are foodies and this pandemic has really cut into their foodie lifestyle. For real Angela…. Book me when you’re in town.
I have not been able to find a new zipper (in the correct color) to replace the broken zipper in my white jacket. I have been thinking of replacing the zipper with extra fabric and snaps (or buttons and button holes). Your idea could be used to make the repair less noticable. Thank you for this idea.
I think using kam snaps extra long size would work well w this method to add extra space for the bulk or thicker fabric to ensure a secure snap when pressing in place. I love idea of using the double sided tape.
I have hundreds of different colored KAM Snaps, which kind of makes my projects look cheap. This fabric idea elevates them to another level. Do you think a drop of Fabri-Tac would hold the fabric as well as double sided tape? Thank you for sharing. 💜😎🇺🇸
You’re very welcome Joanne. I’ve tried with fabric glue. The tape is so much more convenient as you don’t have to wait for it to dry and nothing to bleed through the fabric. You can just rip the tiniest piece to hold in place. You don’t even need to use it if you are not centering a print. Thanks for watching and please have a look at some of my other videos. Cheers!
@@NotchesSewing thanks for replying. I remember my mom making covered buttons for dresses she made us in the 50s and 60s. I am nowhere near the seamstress she was. This is such a great idea.
I bought mine in Australia but there are links in the description for you to purchase either a hand press one or table top one. Thanks for watching. Please check out some of my other videos. Cheers!
Might be ok but you may have a bit of excess glue to get rid of and make sure there isn’t too much to get in the way when pressing on back of snaps. The sewing doesn’t take that long to do. Cheers!
@@NotchesSewing Oh, my machine made buttonholes. It was because I detest making buttonholes and now try to avoid them whenever. If I’m could find a machine that made consistent buttonholes, that would be a different matter.
it can be frustrating if the buttonhole doesn’t turn out. Always always test on scrap first and make sure tension adjusted for both sides of buttonhole. Or you can sew them by hand………😬
@@NotchesSewing I test using the same fabric with interfacing, but the buttonholes are never the same. I’ve made buttonholes by hand, and, strangely, find it soothing. The time involved is the kicker. By choosing patterns with no buttonholes, I save time.

Most excellant idea!!! Totally makes sense. A blow dryer on hot wud speed up the shrinking process, wouldn't it?
I've always done that too and was just going to add it here when I noticed your post.
Now I have a use for all my scrap fabrics. Thank you for this amazing tutorial!

When I sew on that small piece of fabric the needle pushes the fabric into the needle plate and then I cannot sew it. Suggestions needed.
Make sure you are sewing straight across the top and not angling needle downwards
I once paid someone to make the buttonholes in a blouse that I made. Partially made?
Was that because your machine didn’t have the buttonhole function or your dislike of making buttoholes?😁

@@NotchesSewing Can the plastic /metal snaps be painted?
What 2sided tape wud you suggest using? Thanks!🧵🪡
This only works when using LONG PRONG Kam snaps as you’re creating too much bulk.
