    Monday mornings are now a highlight of my week. Here in the Haute Vienne near to you we also had a mouse. The cat, three dachshunds and a rescued French hunting hound failed in their duties, so I caught it and rehomed it near to a recycling point. I hope the sweet thing has survived. Meanwhile the loir continue to clog dance in the walls. This week’s inspiration is lovely. I have no doubt will be some truly interesting pieces shown on the Facebook page. I love your chatty introduction and snoring furry. And am so looking forward to the bag videos too. Housework will be on pause (again 😂)

    We had a huge amount of rain a couple of weeks ago which prompted a mouse to find his way into our dry house in the basement. My cat is an excellent mouser it appears. She caught it, brought it upstairs and was heading straight toward me all happy. I mistakenly thought she had taken a Christmas ornament off the tree and bent down to take it out of her mouth….and touched the dead mouse! I hear they like to bring their “treasures” to their favorite person.

Soon I’ll make this prompt, and maybe one day I’ll make myself a Facebook page so that I can join your stitching community. Thank you for another peaceful, inspiring hour Kathryn and it's so good to see you!
    I had a diverse background because my Mum sewed clothes and did embroidery and my Nana loved crochet. Being a Victorian she did 'micro stitch' doilies with a whisper fine hook. She also knitted everything, especially endless socks with no pattern and could turn a heel without looking.
    One of her last projects was a school cardigan for me, perfect except for one sleeve which was 2 yards long and still going. That's when we realized there was something wrong with Nanny but she was perfectly happy, bless her. 💕
    Your seagull quilt is gorgeous - such movement and the colours are wonderful!

      For 30 years my creative passion was machine embroidery. My then 8 year old grandaughter sewed scraps on fabric and I used a test design from one of the dresses I made when Ella was one. Now Ella is in her early teens and lives out of state. Beautifully diverse memories. ❤

    I never thought of including that in my stitching and that was a lovely idea. It would look great in one of my books.
    Stitching by hand was the first thing I learnt from my mother and the second was crochet. I still do both and I still love both.

    Again Katherine, I’ve been stitching along with you as you stitched your pieces, however I’m working on a very big cross stitch tonight and will sew my week 3 piece perhaps tomorrow. I also darn socks and mend our clothes and when I was younger and we had our sheep farm, I would even turn the collars on my husband’s work shirts. So satisfying. When was a young girl, my mother would take me to the city (Sydney) and when we needed to go the the rest room in the major city department store, we would need to put a penny in the slot in the toilet door before we could enter. I think the pennies paid the cleaner’s wage. Anyhow to this day I still say, I need to spend a penny when I need to use the toilet. I often have to explain to young people what I mean. Out in the outback I’ve heard the toilet called a thunder box or the long drop. This was basically a deep hole in the ground with a wooden toilet seat built over the top. No septic or sewerage systems out there.

    You are so right about respecting boro for what it was originally, but surely all stitching began as a utilitarian process, to make necessary items of clothing or household goods and then to individualise them or ornament them, and each style should be respected for it's origins. We have little mice that visit the inside of our house. Once I saw it's cute little face peak in between the brick and wall. Eye rolls and laughs. Our cat is not a good mouser either. I have 4 dogs and one of them is probably better than the cat.

    I’m so excited by your 4 patch approach; I’m going to make a king size quilt out of 4patches. I was agonizing about the seams and doing them in rows as it seems every quilter I’ve watched on UA-cam does. As far as tearing fabric, I prefer it to cutting as I get much straighter material that way. I’m using coarse linen for my backing on the 52 weeks patches because I can pull a thread from the fairly open weave and get a straight line. Linen is so hit or miss as to whether it will tear. Excited to think thru how I will make my own square this week. Ty so much for leading us along!

      if I am making quilts of squares, I tend to start in the middle and work out. I have one in particular made with my Dad's shirts and hankies made that way. I will share it one day. And you are absolutely right about linen. ❤️

    • @ksims830
      @ksims830 7 місяців тому

      @@k3n.clothtalesooh I’d love to see that quilt! I bought the squares for my quilt years ago; they’re vintage sheets and a bundle of chenille for texture. Then I promptly hated using my sewing machine and it languished. I had an acquaintance who was a miracle worker in making ornate period clothing tell me one day that you could just hand stitch anything. She’d done so in a magnificent dress outfit…so I decided eventually I’d get up the nerve to do my quilt hand stitching. Then I stumbled across one of your videos and got the bug to take up the needle again (I work in wool taking a fleece to finished article usually) so here I am enjoying the process and not agonizing about the product as much. It’s helping me put into practice the idea of embracing imperfection.

    • @k3n.clothtales
      @k3n.clothtales  7 місяців тому +1

      I will share it one day, maybe in one of the weekly slowstitch videos. Yes I guess everything was hand stitched before sewing machines were invented. 😉 So happy you stumbled in ❤️

Thank you for your generosity in sharing these videos with us.

    What an interesting video. I so enjoy all your stories as you create - the little mouse in the loo, the torn skirt from climbing over the stile, how the Indian ladies do the Kantha stitch. You got me thinking about my grandmother's and my mother's quilts! I need to get them out again. I enjoyed when you chatted about using the different types of needlework, but I think I will follow your examples (the best I can manage) because it will remind me of what I learned about them. I so enjoy your videos🌷

    Kathryn that was such a wonderful session. I loved seeing you when you introduced this pattern. I’m sure all of us feel we know you a little better by seeing you as well as hearing you. I’m intrigued by the fact that two creatives that I follow moved from England to France. I follow Diane Anton who is a paint artist. Is France where all the talented people go? 😂 I kept watching all afternoon yesterday to see when you would post this lesson (in Australia it came in about 4ish pm). And I found that already more than 400 people had watched. And now as I write this it is 6,614. It will be interesting over time to see how many more people are drawn to your creative encouragement. So, excellent video and such a fun project with diversity. Thank you again.

    I am thoroughly enjoying my Monday mornings with Kathryn and a hot cup of coffee. Being on the east coast of the U.S., your videos are waiting for me when I get out of bed. I make a coffee and head to the computer for an hour of watching you stitch a new wonderful project for the week and feel like I'm sitting with a friend wittering over coffee and stitching. Delightful. Being retired, I do not need to run off to work, so Monday has now become Slow Stitch day. I love it. Thank you !!!! I think I shall do Boro this week. From your other videos, I have been inspired to give it a try, so I may make a few samples of Boro for my project this week..... And it was so delightful to see Stella this morning and hear all about Fredfred... the non-mouser. A small addition to your narrative regarding usage of tiny scissors needs to be shared. I was the unluckiest girl, got pregnant without the benefit of marriage, so with proper low self esteem, I was lucky enough to have a wedding. So, to be as small as I could self esteem-wise, I cut out and sewed my outfits for fitting my growing belly--- using buttonhole scissors, very like your tiny slow stitching scissors. Had baby, got very healthy and am ok now at 82 years. Still have those scissors. Have no idea how I did it.

    Thank you so much for sharing. The trick to weave through your darning threads that I use is to weave them the threads with the back end of the needle. That way I don't have to bother changing needles, but I'm also less likely to catch one of the darning threads while weaving through them.

    Another excellent video. Tad bit behind on my weekly stitching, but will catch up this weekend. This video hit home…specifically the darning. I never knew exactly how it was done…we live in a society nowadays where people waste and throw away and buy anew sadly….but as a little girl I remember my grandma darning at the kitchen table…only she did not have a darning mushroom (never seen one)…she always darned on top of a light bulb that no longer would light. Thanks for showing us this one….I shall darn all the socks from here on out. Loving this channel so much…I look forward to Mondays to watch….and then on Fridays when I am off of work and home alone to stitch my heart out! ❤
