Hey, IrishAJW--I just started collecting a lower grade (PR60/61/62) set. The proofs are just outstanding! Congratulations on almost completing your set, and good luck! Cheers!
You got that right. I have been working on a set of Barber Quarters VF-30 or better for years. It's a lifetime pursuit. All the more sweeter when you find the right coin to go into the album.
As a former dealer,I had a hard time, stocking the 96o,96s,97o,97s. When I was offered them they were often in AG. The others were much easier, except in,XF or better. I did find a 1906o in good in a roll back around 1960. Back then dealers were paying just a tiny bit over face for rolls of average circulated Barber's. The 50c were always more scarce than either the 10c or 25c.
I collect Barbers in VG or so (a bit higher for dimes) with original gray surfaces and ideally, a "cameo" appearance with the devices being light. Hard to find but not costing more, a fun challenge.
Hi Ben. Neat set. I wish I could afford a high-grade DCAM for my type set. I grew up thinking the Liberty on the Barber coins was a male. She sure is ugly. *>>>---------------------->* 🦉 🔔
Back when I started (60’s) I went with the Red Book definition of fine. However, I notice that with Barber halves, the TPG VG-10’s often half full (but weak) LIBERTY s I find that really odd, but then again, VG-10 is awsome As is F-15 Thanks!
Barber halves are the only Barber series that can be completed on a relatively low budget. The quarters obviously have monster stoppers in the 1896-S, the 1901-S, and the 1913-S, all of which are high 3 figures ('96-S) to mid 4 figures ('01-S) for low grade examples. And, of course, the dimes are uncompleteable by anyone who doesn't have a couple million to blow on one of the 9 known '94-S. Oh, sure, everyone will say "it's complete..." but that's always followed by "...well, except the '94-S, of course." And it eats at all Barber collectors, even if just a little bit. Anyone telling you otherwise is lying, either to themselves, you, or both. But Barbers...? Barbers you can do, because even the spendy ones aren't more and $100-$200 in low grade. And the '92 micro "o" is just a variety, and not necessary for a full set.
I wouldn’t consider an 1894-S dime to be part of the set. With a mintage of 24, they clearly weren’t intended for circulation. It’s an impressive coin to own for sure, but not needed to have a “complete” set.
I think it would be easier for a major leaguer to hit .400 than for a collector to get a full set of Barber Halves in Extremely Fine. They are very hard to find.
A raw set of Barber halves in Extremely Fine-40/45 is achievable over several years time if you have the patience and budget. However I don’t think a MLB player will ever have a batting average of .400 or higher again. 🤔 ⚾️⚾️⚾️ ROGER, The LOS ANGELES DODGER
Really difficult to find any of these in higher grades in what would be affordable for myself. Expensive doesn't even come close 😔 Truly enjoyed looking at the set Ben 👍
Beautiful half dollars! Using the knife as a pointing device was raising my blood pressure a little.
I always find it interesting how once upon a time half dollars actually circulated and wouldnt be uncommon to see in day to day commerce
One coin away from complete set of Barber half dollar proofs! I’ve always liked the design. Have some proof 67s that are just stunners.

Damn thats wild congrats
I've found the barber halves easier to collect than the barber quarters and dimes.

I want more of these.

I enjoyed this very much the Barber series is definitely one of my favorite. Thanks for going over this area. Bryan Kitchen Houston Texas

Nice set, it's hard to find really good barber coinage.
Lots of great info 📚🎓📚🎓📚

As is F-15
Thanks!
One of the most beautiful coins ever minted
Amazingly The halves are easier to put together a nice set vs the quarters & dimes!
For VG coins if there's a break close to where the "L" would be in Liberty area - they count it: LTY is very common in what you have in front of you
Awesome thanks for sharing this
I think Barber coinage is underrated… putting together sets of Barbers is a fun challenge, with 4 different mints and some tough dates thrown in
Very helpful video. Thanks Ben.
I really like when they get that cameo effect
Very nice. I like these grading educational videos.

I'm about half way done with my set. I do have the 1913, 1914 and 1915 but I still the other key dates.
That’s a great barber half set & great info. Thanks for sharing
looks like several coins especially the 1897-o and s have scratches.
