    It's funny, I was pruning back a tree on the property line by the road and found myself practicing bonsai thinking. There are always opportunities to practice.

    Chinese elms with their small leaves would be perfect for this planting

    So envious of Your temperatures, here it was 40*c at 10 last night. This composition is so beautiful, now I know what to do with mulberry/ ficus 😊, wont be able to get structure like yours but terracotta lamps in interesting shapes are available during Diwali so …..

    Hi Nigel!! Aren’t there lights in some of the houses in your Chinese Penjing? Maybe when the days are shorter or some holiday when folks might be up late. ⛩️🎎⛩️ 🪭🏮🧧🏮

    I've been battling mealy bugs. It's a tough battle, takes lots of perseverance. I use alcohol, a squirt of dish soap and some peppermint oil in water. Works well.

    My humble thought is that this would be awesome, if the house roof tiles were red brick coloring...

      I agree, as long as the tiles weren't too bright red or they might take attention away from the trees/landscape at first glance. Great idea 👍🏽

      I’m in Texas, the politics here in the US are trash too. I guess the whole western world is going through it. Atleast we have the plants and bonsai lol

    I have a sort of odd and novice question: I think this penjing looks really nice from a 3/4 perspective (with the front right corner of the pot slightly pushed out toward the viewer), but I don’t think shifting the planting within the dimensions of the pot would be possible or desirable. Would it be considered garish or outré to display a penjing like this at an angle (sort of in the style of an architectural point perspective drawing)?

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  21 день тому +1

      Interesting!! It does look best looking in from the corner of the pot. Maybe you would need some more houses at 90 degrees to the other ones and then arrange the planting so you are looking in at the houses at the 45 degree angle, but the pot is still straight on? Something to think about!!!

    I like the way this penjing is developing. The only thing that is detracting to me is the middle front tree. It’s trunk has no real taper from bottom to top, and that is a shame.

    Is there a reason why you didn’t use a tree like the Chinese Elm in your penjing?
