Martin Birch was an absolute master at his craft. I'm blown away each time I listen to the albums he produced. H&H in particular: It's hard to believe it was recorded in 1980! It still has a incredibly modern and well engineered sound. Comparatively, most other metal albums of the time sound like they were recording hobos screaming in plastic buckets, through a phone. Not all of them, obviously (for instance, I think Tom Allom was doing a pretty good job, too, although it may sounds a bit more dated by today's standard, but not that much), but Birch really was second to none.

@@AlfW Well Ronnie rarely used falsetto like Freddie did, but live Freddie would quite often not go for the high note like on the original, whereas it was rare for Ronnie to not go for the highs. He also had more power than Freddie. Freddie was certainly a more innovative musician but I do feel that Ronnie was slightly ahead as a vocalist, definitely more exciting. Dio also had such control over his voice, but it took Mercury a while to tame his naturally fast vibrato. Roger Taylor didn't rate Freddie's voice on at least the first and possibly second Queen albums due to that lamb-like vibrato.

Heard all the time growing up in music classes that "music has lots of math in it" but the only example they ever gave was strings making notes and being halved and such. Knowing how you use math to do the actual composing is far more interesting, and makes a lot of songs make more sense.
