I’ve been knitting for years but don’t make sweaters very often and always have to look up how to pickup sleeve stitches and do the underarm. Even though it’s a year after you made this, I want to thank you for this excellent video and say how clear you make this for me to follow! This will be the only video I use as my reminder the next time I am knitting sleeves! 😊
I found your video when I was desperately seeking help for the Magic Loop method for sleeves and I cannot say thank you enough !! Fantastic instructions, so clear and well taught for a newbie like me. SUPERB !
I had to go through a bunch of other explanatory videos before I found you. You're the one I needed all along! Thanks for the clear explanation about the magic loop method. I finally got it!
I just finished knitting my first sweater and wish, wish I had seen your video. This is the most clear explanation of how to do the sleeves using the magic loop. Thanks so much.
I had to frog one sleeve and was tempting to frog the entire sweater. Your video gave me life..I was able to do this and it was refreshing. I have written notes so I will not get anxiety again. Thank you.
Oh can’t thank you enough for this very clear video instruction as I was struggling with how to maneuver those needles around that sleeve…..Thank you! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🧶👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you so much for this amazing clear tutorial. First time working sleeves in the round top down on a toddler sized cardigan and I'm hopeless with DPNs. This was so easy to follow for a beginner magic loop user and the result looks great, definitely my go-to video for future reference.
Thank you!!! This is a great tutorial. I have been looking and looking for magic loop with a stitch marker to no avail. This is an awesome video.....thanks soon much
Oof! I am glad I finally found this; yrs I have to "tink back" my first sleeve but I was getting gaps and they were "like soap in my eyes" - I think this will help send me in the correct direction. Thank-you. Thank-you
Thank you so much! Over time with practice your stitches will get more and more even. Also though, some yarns just provide crisper more even-looking stitches than others (so I may have very smooth stitches in one yarn but not-so-even in another). Plus never underestimate the power of wet blocking! Many of my designs have very inconsistent looking stitches pre-blocked, but even-out SO nicely after blocking. I have lots of before and after photos on this blog post: elizabethsmithknits.com/2021/11/19/before-and-after-blocking/
When you're working in the round, knitting every round creates stockinette fabric because there is no wrong-side of the fabric. Whereas when you're working flat (i.e, back and forth), you knit on right-side rows and purl on wrong-side rows. Hope that helps! :)
This is great. I’m making my first top down sweater, child’s size. Instructions call for dpn’s. I was going to use two cables instead, which I’ve done on hats a couple of times. This looks way better. Thank you.
I'm glad it was helpful! Sorry for not including the decreases with it. If it's helpful, I do have separate videos on how to work the decrease stitches k2tog and ssk - I'll paste the links to those here in case it might be helpful! ssk: ua-cam.com/video/P-hrzukyVRw/v-deo.html k2tog: ua-cam.com/video/kI1R8U7W30A/v-deo.html
So glad it was helpful! I do have a video that includes fixing the holes - here’s the link: Audrey's Cardigan KAL: Weaving in Ends ua-cam.com/video/cnUYlVprsdo/v-deo.html
You're very welcome! So for magic loop, you can always use either a 32" or 40" circular. I usually always use 32" (even for a baby sleeve). I hope that helps! :)
Sure thing! I used Berroco Ultra Wool Chunky. And the pattern is available on my website or Ravelry - here’s the link on Ravelry: www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/audreys-cardigan-2 😀
Once you get the hang of magic loop, I personally find it much easier than working 4 DPN's - there's a little bit of a learning curve but it's totally worth sticking with it a bit to see if you also find it easier!
That's true - they do sell 9" or 12" length circulars, but some people find those hard to work with because the tips are so short and so magic loop can be a good alternative. Personally I find the super short circulars to hurt my hands a bit, but I do know many people who love working with them as well. So it's worth testing out for sure to see what works best for you!

Your work is absolutely beautiful. What the secret for smooth and even knitting? I haven’t been able to get there yet.

I learned from this....
But I wish you also showed the decreases for the sleeve.

Hi, thank you, you’re very helpful! Do you have a video showing how you’re fixing the holes (underarm)? Thank you

Thank you ! Can you say how to decide the cable length and needle length to use, in particular for a baby sleeve?
You're very welcome! So for magic loop, you can always use either a 32" or 40" circular. I usually always use 32" (even for a baby sleeve). I hope that helps! :)
Amazing. Helpfup tips when doing sleeves thanks
I'm so glad it was helpful! Thank you!
I was making a baby romper and literally i dont know how to make sleeve but now i know
This is very clear and helpful. Thank you so much. I am working on just this type of sleeve and really didn't want to have to use DPs.
I'm so glad you found it helpful! Thank you!
Omg thank you for this I was gettting so frustrated trying to do this on circulars i started doing it on dpns lol!
Thank you so much for this you are amazing!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the tutorial!
You’re very welcome!
Can you tell me please what yarn you are using specifically? And where can I purchase this pattern? Thank you!
Sure thing! I used Berroco Ultra Wool Chunky. And the pattern is available on my website or Ravelry - here’s the link on Ravelry: www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/audreys-cardigan-2 😀
Thank you, this was super helpfil
I'm so glad it was helpful! :)
Thank you for your video.
Do you think magic loop method is easier then using 4 DPN? I have both needles and I'm a beginner with cardigans.
Once you get the hang of magic loop, I personally find it much easier than working 4 DPN's - there's a little bit of a learning curve but it's totally worth sticking with it a bit to see if you also find it easier!
@@ElizabethSmithKnits Thanks a lot.
I really struggled with the 4 DPN's. I'm gonna try the magic loop.
What yarn are u using? Thank you very much for your tutorial
Thanks so much! I'm using Berroco's Ultra Wool Chunky in these videos (in the "Holly" colorway). I'm so glad the videos have been helpful!
Thank you!!.
What kind of yard did you use?
I used Berroco Ultra Wool Chunky :)
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
U don't really need to do magic loop if u use a shorter cable.
If you’re making a baby sweater then even a short cable usually isn’t small enough for the sleeves! So magic loop is sooo much easier.
Thank you! ❤
