Honestly both Metroid Prime Remaster and Metroid Dread are the best looking games in the Switch in my opinion. Both run at 60 fps as well. What a fantastic time to be a Metroid fan.
I have to confess, Metroid Prime remastered looks so good to me, that I thought I was looking at a PS4 game! How they manage to pull this off on the Nintendo switch is mind-boggling! But I guess it just goes to show that you never underestimate how powerful the switch can be.
Yes! A Metroid Discussion is cool. Hope this game finally sells a lot more and get recognized for its quality in Music, Graphics, art style, and gameplay.
I'm certainly hoping for Prime 2 and 3 to receive a similar remaster. My ideal situation would be Prime 2 gets released in a few months,. then Prime 3 a few months after that. And once all 3 games get released and wonderfully remastered, Prime 4 gets a full blown trailer and release date. Keeps our thirst for these games going.
Yeah I really doubt 2 and 3 are going to get the same treatment, they were not as critically acclaimed as the first game. It makes sense that the first game be treated as a legacy title whilst the other two will probably just be ported straight from the hd collection
Nintendo knew the strategy of releasing MPR digitally now at $40, and a physical later at $40, would cause many people to double-dip. No fan was gonna wait for this game to be available physically. Hell, this game is running on the same engine, just updated.
With all the discussion about visuals, I feel we miss mentioning Kenji Yamamoto’s equally incredible OST that has stood the test of time. It’s an integral part of the experience and timeless aesthetics of this game.
Me and my older brother are already in Phazon Mines and this remaster is just GORGEOUS. and it’s so smooth too! :D Honestly if we get a remaster of Echoes, Corruption and MAYBE even Hunters it’ll make the wait for Prime 4 more bearable. And who knows! Maybe if the sales are reaaaaally well Nintendo will green light more Prime games down the line. Godwilling! :) EDIT: only thing this Remaster needs to be perfect is the Fusion suit extra!
I think an adaptation of the ship system from Prime 3 would make for a great, logical fast travel mechanic. The map would be fully interconnected on one planet like 1-2, but each area would have one or two landing sites that you can find by exploring. You could then call the ship and go to whichever landing site you want, provided it has been unlocked. This would be a very immersive solution, imo.
It could have released at 60 and I know a lot of people would have still went and purchased it, I think this double release feature will sell double at 40 though, maybe not so much at 60, I also think they're still testing the metroid waters to see how much of a appeal the series has, I'm super excited for the next year 🤗 ☺ 🤪
I think they can do a rinse repeat too. Don't sell the collection. Just sell them separately and it will all be good. For collectors you can have them all, for new people they can always just download it digitally.
Zero marketing, but years and years of rumors of the entire trilogy dropping. Low frequency of directs makes a ton of people watch, and then twitter exists. They knew exactly what they were doing lol marketing who?
I'm so happy I'm playing metroid prime again. Still waiting for 4 but this will appease me for a while for sure, it looks so good and plays just as good tbh with og and wii controls if that's your fancy.
Yes and 3 is more recent too and on a more powerful hardware (wii) than 2 so it already looks a little nicer… If we only had one to choose from i’d say 2 too! And i thinks for most people who played the trilogy completely, i think Echoes is regarded as better than Corruption even though both are great. I really love Echoes and really hopes it gets remastered too!
For button remapping I changed L to be X which made swapping arm cannon's much easier. By default L is just a duplicate of B and I was using B rather than L for my jumping so there's no functionality lost by changing that control.
Metroido was the first game I owned besides the included Mario/duck hunt on the NES. I remember my mom asking me what game I wanted for Christmas and looking at the JC Penney's catalog I remember deciding on Kid Icarus or Metroido based on the box art alone and went with Metroido because I liked the cool looking character in a space suit with a big blaster on the cover. That game took me months to beat with no maps and have been a fan of the series since 1986!
PSA: MPR is almost assuredly not running on the original codebase as mp or mpt's version of prime. This is actually selling retros modern team quote short (although not as short as the credits to MPR sold the original team. . Just saying) in order to do this you would need the original not compiled source code to mp or mpt to still be around. Which is incredibly, incredibly unlikely. MPR is assuredly a decompilation of the ROM, which can recover all the assets textures, sounds, collision meshes etc, alongnwith a lot usable code artifacts, snippeta of functioms and routines (although i wouldnt be surprised if retro still has a whole lot of them saved for reuse, that they are still using in games like dk, good code is eternal). Then mpr was reverse engineered based off of this. The credits are most likely very on point when they say based off of mp.and mpt. This isn't the first time this has happened either, it's pretty common, links awakening dx had to do this because the source code to la was lost, and I don't think anyone could tell the difference. Home brewers did this with GTA, and more topical are doing it with super Metroid, Metroid prime hunters, and Metroid prime itself.... These not original codebase games are actually more cycle and timing accurate than the original code running through most emulators. Although I haven't visited that community in a minute. I wonder how they feel about retro themselves doing it.
It controls incredibly now, don't have any issues with the gamecube and wii controls but man I like this more. This for me did what Dread did for 2d metroid controls.
man, with how great prime looks remastered, i hope nintendo goes the extra mile and remasters 2 and 3 as well as this one. Both have stunning art direction and areas that could look breathtaking with a modern look.
@@danielgibson3422 Sadly it's not going to happen. Prime 2 is also my favorite and the best looking of the trilogy in my opinion, Prime 1 is a bit too basic and cliché and Prime 3 is too colorful for a Metroid game and has excessive bloom.
I was kinda disappointed that they didn't have the Fusion suit as an unlockable feature, but I'm curious if they'll release an update in the future where, if you have save data from Metroid Dread, you can unlock the Dread suit, which is my favorite of all Samus' suits
I'm assuming they couldn't finish the Fusion Suit in time for whatever reason? Updating Samus's base suit clearly already took a lot of work, and the Fusion Suit has a design that seems like it wouldn't be easy to translate into HD in the same style.
Unpopular opinion, but I hope Metroid Prime Hunters gets this Switch remaster treatment. My only big problem with it at release was the gimmicky touch screen controls, but it would play so much better with the dual stick control setup. Not to mention how badly those old DS graphics need a modernized overhaul.
I think that Luigi’s Mansion 3 is also a very strong contender for best switch game graphics. Other than that I can absolutely see and understand how Metroid Prime Remaster has amazing graphics. Reason Shadow of the Colossus on PS4 is some of the best graphics I have ever seen on PS4. Reason is these are old games and we’re much smaller in size than any game made today, so once you are able to create game at the same size at the original you are then able to fit in the rest with the best possible visuals at the time of the new console, cause you have so much free space to do so. This makes complete sense how Metroid prime remaster looks so amazing.
Certainly feels like Nintendo made a good move. Hope this turns into tangible numbers and builds up good hype towards Prime 4. Really want Metroid franchise to get more love in future.
the best gyro option in this game is hidden in camera controls. for some reason the "hybrid" and imo the pointer options are bad, but under the camera options there's stick+gyro which makes it not take up any extra buttons and basically makes it Splatoon controls but with lock on and actual y axis control with the stick lol
I feel shadow drops are the style we want for a short time because we’ve had years of promises or future releases. And so to not know and then get something it’s exciting
Biggest gripe with the game is them not adding the advanced control option that wii had in the pointer configuration. Not enough people are talking about this, but it was far and away the best way to play Prime, and it's hard to go back to a new scheme after using it.
@@thefabulouskitten7204 there was an advanced sensitivity option on the Wii that made the character turn more like a PC shooter. Essentially you didn't need to move the cursor to the edge of the screen in order to turn.
i'd say this remaster goes well beyond what was done with Xenoblade DE, cause while that game definitely looks really good you'll still be aeeing about 90% wii era environmental and entity geometry. the vast majority of the upgrade to that game came as redone character faces and hands, and the new lighting model, and even then it only ran at 720p. i'd liken this more to ocarina of time 3d, where while it may share much of the original code, any and everything that is actually rendered to the screen is entirely new.
I think that it really helps that it was a GameCube game. They probably had so much space to work with to make the game gorgeous without affecting gameplay or having to edit the world.
The super missile problem has a fix. There is a controller setting to swap the controls for R and X. Then you can shoot missiles/supers with the X button and switch beams by holding down R. It actually fixes several problems because (unless you have a very small hand) you should be able to hold R and reach the D-pad with your right thumb without ever having to take your left thumb off the joy stick.
I'd still prefer to have missiles on both the R an A (which is currently the beam button) buttons. Or even better, just let me remap the controls myself.
I would be ok with Prime 4 getting delayed if it meant the rest of the Prime games got remastered the same way as Prime 1. Prime 2 and 3 have much more ambitious looking locations and set pieces and I would be much more interesting to see modernized.
Did Nintendo really not "advertise" Metroid Prime? What have we been doing ever since the rumors started? Did not every UA-camr and their mothers hype this game like no other? told everyone their opinions on why Metroid Prime is such a great series with hour long videos? Did we not feel disappointment every single Direct that the rumors weren't being confirmed, to the point random non Metroid fans felt sorry for us bc they understood our pain? Also i get about 10 Metroid Prime Remaster commercials a day and i hate that I'm waiting for February 22, but it's ok is just a week.
The hybrid option is actually pretty good. It’s like original controls +, I might have gone with it if it were classic controls and toggleable with joystick instead of gryo.
Prime 2 has to come out on the 22nd like when Bayonetta dropped I joke, Retro Studios toying with us until they're probably finished with Prime 4. They're truly testing the waters of potential while aiming to see if Prime 4 can run on the current then next generation console
I know it’s a super unpopular opinion, but having never played it and always wanting to, I’m bummed about how bright it looks. The original seemed to have a cooler and moodier visual style. Makes me wanna just play it on GCN!
Has anyone figured out a way to use turbo on controller without messing up the charge ability? I tried putting turbo on trigger and it added turbo on A button as well. 🤷🏽
Gameplay wise, it could mostly be the same code (with the addition of some new controller input options). Rendering wise, they definitely made a lot of changes to that and the shaders. They also would have had to make some changes to the engine due to the hardware differences. Honestly, they probably dusted off the old code and made the enhancements to this game in order to be able to just reuse that engine for the Prime 4.
I do think that two and three will have as good of a remaster as the first. The benefit of 1 being done is that they have all the framework they need to make the next two.
I genuinely think it is the best looking Switch game. Prime has aged incredibly well and still looks good to this day, so I wasn't sure how a remake would turn out but I am not disappointed in the slightest. The game looks SO good
I don't even need shooters to look any better than this. I can clearly see it's a low detail environment still. But that's fine. It's beautifully made. This is perfect.
The Nintendo June Direct will have a teaser for Prime 4 saying coming this year with a surprise drop of Prime 2 and the September Direct will have a full blown trailer for Prime 4 saying coming November 17th and a surprise drop of Prime 3
I genuinely think all those indie metroidvanias that released in the last ten years are the reason why. It made a whole new generation interested in that type of game, so when Nintendo a sequel to the franchise that inspired it, these people loved it, and now Nintendo releases a remaster of a game that, for the most part, they have never played. Samus Returns didn't do well because it was released on a dying and outdated console.
If we were to get Prime 2 and 3, it’ll probably be a simple HD version. There’s more assets, bigger environments, and more cutscenes in the sequels that would take way more time to remaster. Prime 2 has two separate worlds alone. Can you imagine Santuary Fortress or Skytown, Elysia remastered this way though? 🥰 I’d love to be proven wrong, Nintendo.
If it wasn’t for this remaster, Tbh I would have Never experienced Metriod prime, I’m glad i did cause im loving it. I’v always wanted to play a metroid game
They could just have Prime 3's motion control "minigames" take control away from you and act as brief cutscenes of sorts. I think that might be the best way to handle it.
The dump of Prime Remastered is well on its way. Let me tell you, it IS the best looking and running switch game ever made. Where the high poly Samus from dread is 10,000+ polygons, the one in remastered is 51,000+! That’s a lot! There is also multiple level of detail models for when she is far away. This is without a doubt the best running switch game in existence.
the early space jump shoes thing is still in the game just in a different spot and you use the morph ball bomb jump tech not the ship like in the og release in 2002
Hi Guys, the original Metroid Prime had a secret version of Metroid 1, and since this Prime is a remaster it should include Zero Mission! Any news about unlockables here?
unlikely to be the case simply because it litteraly launched alongside the GBA NO service, which is the more likely candidate to get Metroid zero mission (and fusion which is already announced) what COULD be interesting is a update for Prime Remaster to unlock the fusion suit when Fusion launches for the online service.. unlikely tho
@@weberman173 it would be amazing tho. Fusion is already on NSO so Zero Mission would be great since Prime refers the events on Zebes, so it would make most sense to include it. Let’s hope for the best!
@@kagemara277 wait Fusion already launched on NSO? last time i checked(aka.. litteraly before i posted my comment) it was still listed as "coming soon" on nintendos website
Yooooooo. So i clicked the vid just for info and I didnt know this game actually came out! I thought it was coming out but i didnt know i can play it. WOW
18 months they sat on Prime1... It was already finished a year ago, but why is that? Maybe its because there could be a true Remastered of Prime2 and Prime3 HD with modern controls! Not to mention, Prime4 is on its way no doubt :}
So I do NOT have a switch. i have a WII and Gamecube. I have Prime, Prime 2 and 3. If this is one of the best looking games on the switch, is it really worth it to get a switch? Or should I just wait for their next gen assuming it will be backwards compatible for switch games?
If you are an absolute, extreme, die hard fan of Metroid, than yeah, it's worth getting a switch for it. But at the end of the day it is still the same game you have played. Personally I value this game not only because it's freaking Prime 1 on steroids (my favourite game of all time) but also because it is a glimpse on how Prime 4 could play and look like. But if I were you I would hold on for a few months, see if maybe we get an announcement for Prime 4 or the next switch on E3. I have a feeling Prime 4 will be a crossgen title, maybe the switch 2 is coming out at the end of next year to be honest.
Honestly Metroid Prime Remastered looks "good", but the fact it keeps a locked 60 and runs at (almost) full-res is what really makes it it look "great" on the Switch. You have games like Crysis: Remastered which look pretty amazing visually, but run like absolute garbage framerate-wise, and at a super-low upscaled res on the Switch hardware. Even earlier first-party games like BOTW which went for a lot more of a simplistic but highly stylized artstyle chugs at a few points. The fact that Prime Remastered looks as good as it does, and runs at a high-res locked 60 is just mind-bogglingly great.
I agree, the lighting in Luigi's mansion is way way more sophisticated, and the animation is literally about as close to a Pixar animation as you could get with switch hardware.. metroid prime 1 is nice looking but I think people are kinda in a daze of hype right now and saying all kinds of things
The game is definitely beautiful....but for me.. dying light is one of the best looking FPS on the switch... I'm still amazed that they were able to get it to run on the switch.
Ptime basically got the exact same treatment as Halo CE for a remaster. They didn't do anymore than what was needed. Games already a GOAT. A Halo 2 treatment though would've been amazing, still best remaster of all time
I do not understand the complaints about the shadow drop. You're mad you didn't have to wait even longer to play it? I don't think the shadow drop will hurt sales at all. In fact, I think it may have helped because they struck while the hype was at its peak.
I feel like how good this game looks is going to spark more arguments online regarding how... well, NOT good the Pokémon games on Switch typically look. "Oh, the Switch isn't capable of good graphics, that's why the Pokémon games all look like junk on the Switch." "Oh, yeah? Not capable of good graphics, you say? Then explain Metroid Prime! Why does THAT game with a very niche audience get special treatment while the highest grossing media franchise of all time can't even manage something halfway decent?!"
If you have warping between teleporter rooms but only if you unlock the room first otherwise you can't teleport to it. Now that would be good. But maybe there should be a main hub to teleport to each biome and then freely teleport between teleport rooms in the same biome.
i would not call it the "best looking switch game" per say its certainly (one of)the most consistently good looking and performing switch games tho. i may be biased but stuff like Xenoblade 3(and even 2 when it isnt dying from a memory leak) and BOTW just look "better" to me ,even at lower resolution. Booth games being also just technical masterpieces on themself is also just what makes their graphical tradeoffs(aka resolution mostly and also the lack of AA) more forgiving then the lack of Anti aliasing in prime.. i would have prefeerd prime running at 30FPS but with better AA for example
Honestly both Metroid Prime Remaster and Metroid Dread are the best looking games in the Switch in my opinion. Both run at 60 fps as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this is surely the best looking Nintendo game ever made right? We've never had graphics like that before
Prime 2 has to come out on the 22nd like when Bayonetta dropped
I joke, Retro Studios toying with us until they're probably finished with Prime 4.
There is a lot of people that haven't played this...why would you spoil the ending?
Has anyone figured out a way to use turbo on controller without messing up the charge ability? I tried putting turbo on trigger and it added turbo on A button as well. 🤷🏽
Yoooo Andres in a GameXplain video?! 😎
The problem is retro is also busy with prime 4
I genuinely think it is the best looking Switch game. Prime has aged incredibly well and still looks good to this day, so I wasn't sure how a remake would turn out but I am not disappointed in the slightest. The game looks SO good
At All of the games i wouldn't think on this being the best looking, looking to this foward
EGM review of the original said it was like the best looking game from 10 years in the future. Seems appropriate that the remaster is so impressive.
If you guys haven't, you should do a top 10 best game graphics (performance, resolution, art style, detail, animation, etc) on Switch.
I'm still in shock that all these channels are having discussions about Metroid Prime. To think a handful of years ago this was a dead franchise.
Nice name and profile picture. 👌
@@1JAM229 my twin! Haha
@@legrandliseurtri7495 there's no doubt. Indie games revitalized the metroidvania genre and Nintendo took notice
Splinter cell on switch would be amazing.
10:39 did he forget all 3 games were packaged together in the wii? 😂
About the new samus face, i see a bit of Sigourney weaver’s ellen ripley
Yes it’s the best looking, could even throw it into the ballpark with ps4 games easily.
So what about Kirby's return to Dreamland Deluxe? This one also got a visual glow up, and no one talks about it x)
29:50 lmao I've been using classic controls so that issue with swapping beams did not even occur in my head!
If it wasn’t for this remaster, Tbh I would have Never experienced Metriod prime, I’m glad i did cause im loving it. I’v always wanted to play a metroid game
Such a great video! Much love
We are really just going to have to wait and see how MP4 compares visually to MP.
I really hope Prime 2 comes out. It's a savage game.
It makes sense that 2 and 3 would have less improvement needed because they already hade step ups in gfx and gameplay mechanics
One more week to have this gem in our hands.
As good as Prime remastered looks, I think the best looking Switch game belongs to Luigi Mansion 3. If it ran at 60 fps, it would be even better.
Andres for the win.
the multishot thing is ok for power beam but it is AWFUL for the 2 shot wave beam between charge shots it is so slow
the early space jump shoes thing is still in the game just in a different spot and you use the morph ball bomb jump tech not the ship like in the og release in 2002
Hi Guys, the original Metroid Prime had a secret version of Metroid 1, and since this Prime is a remaster it should include Zero Mission! Any news about unlockables here?
unlikely to be the case simply because it litteraly launched alongside the GBA NO service, which is the more likely candidate to get Metroid zero mission (and fusion which is already announced)
what COULD be interesting is a update for Prime Remaster to unlock the fusion suit when Fusion launches for the online service.. unlikely tho
@@weberman173 sorry for the misunderstanding. I counted it since it was officially announced.
Yooooooo. So i clicked the vid just for info and I didnt know this game actually came out! I thought it was coming out but i didnt know i can play it. WOW
18 months they sat on Prime1... It was already finished a year ago, but why is that?
Maybe its because there could be a true Remastered of Prime2 and Prime3 HD with modern controls!
Not to mention, Prime4 is on its way no doubt :}
That guys eye is all fucked up
Honestly Metroid Prime Remastered looks "good", but the fact it keeps a locked 60 and runs at (almost) full-res is what really makes it it look "great" on the Switch.
Just because they aren't releasing 2 and 3 doesn't mean that they would change the game's ending. That's an absolutely ridiculous assumption.
They didn't need to advertise the game, the fans have spread the word and the sales show that
Luigi's mansion 3 looks amazing. Realistic graphics don't make it the best
I agree, the lighting in Luigi's mansion is way way more sophisticated, and the animation is literally about as close to a Pixar animation as you could get with switch hardware.. metroid prime 1 is nice looking but I think people are kinda in a daze of hype right now and saying all kinds of things
@@Al3XB85 there's different art styles. Metroid prime remastered is beautiful tho
But the framerate...
@@maxwellr5251 I see non
20:30 brighter? the game looks dark af for me! I dont know how to change the brightness ingame ahha
It still boggles my mind that Nintendo shadow dropped a game of this level.
The game is definitely beautiful....but for me.. dying light is one of the best looking FPS on the switch... I'm still amazed that they were able to get it to run on the switch.
Teleport stations would be awesome for MP4
Ptime basically got the exact same treatment as Halo CE for a remaster. They didn't do anymore than what was needed. Games already a GOAT. A Halo 2 treatment though would've been amazing, still best remaster of all time
Shadow Drop v Traditional Marketing I think matters less than making an amazing game that people want.
I'd love a Prime Hunters remaster
Samus looks like Emily Blunt , straight out of Edge of Tomorrow
This is Elite marketing for Metroid 4 while as mentioned in the chat making a profit off the Remaster with ZERO MARKETING!
Hello there!!
I do not understand the complaints about the shadow drop. You're mad you didn't have to wait even longer to play it? I don't think the shadow drop will hurt sales at all. In fact, I think it may have helped because they struck while the hype was at its peak.
wow her face looks grate. ive never seen a switch game human look that good
The best looking switch game by far.
I feel like how good this game looks is going to spark more arguments online regarding how... well, NOT good the Pokémon games on Switch typically look.
"Oh, the Switch isn't capable of good graphics, that's why the Pokémon games all look like junk on the Switch."
"Oh, yeah? Not capable of good graphics, you say? Then explain Metroid Prime! Why does THAT game with a very niche audience get special treatment while the highest grossing media franchise of all time can't even manage something halfway decent?!"
The new Pokémon games are just boring, glitches or not. The only good one was Legends Arceus and even that had some problems.
If you have warping between teleporter rooms but only if you unlock the room first otherwise you can't teleport to it. Now that would be good. But maybe there should be a main hub to teleport to each biome and then freely teleport between teleport rooms in the same biome.
Easily the best looking switch game. Stunning. Metroid is always the franchise to push nintendos hardware.
I expect the same remaster treatment for Echoes.
Is there a Fushion Suit in this game?
i would not call it the "best looking switch game" per say
its certainly (one of)the most consistently good looking and performing switch games tho.
i may be biased but stuff like Xenoblade 3(and even 2 when it isnt dying from a memory leak) and BOTW just look "better" to me ,even at lower resolution. Booth games being also just technical masterpieces on themself is also just what makes their graphical tradeoffs(aka resolution mostly and also the lack of AA) more forgiving then the lack of Anti aliasing in prime.. i would have prefeerd prime running at 30FPS but with better AA for example
