A couple of things I should clarify on (click read more) 1. Look under authorized apps in your discord settings and remove anything that you do not recognize. This will ensure that your account is 100% secure. 2. If the hackers purchased nitro under your account, FIRST try to undo the transaction in your transaction history and contact discord to try to get a refund. A chargeback should only be your last resort since charging back purchases breaks the TOS and can get your account banned. 3. If you did not have any attempted transactions in discord and you did not have a paypal or credit card connected to your account, you do not need to worry about fraudulent charges on your credit card/paypal account.
hi no text to speech i was the discord server featured in the vid deleted? since I'm not in it anymore and I didn't press leave and the inv is invalid now, if it wasn't deleted plz invite me back
Thank god i wad too lazy to add paypal, or credit card, etc. because i fell for this. I hope my best friend sees this because im still blocked and discord was the only way to contact him
I love how you're also guiding kids on how to talk to their parents about this situation. Children are highly vulnerable to this scam and they might panic and afraid to tell their parents because of fear of consequences. Your guidance would assure them that it's the bad guys' fault, so no worries and parents would understand how to safely get their money back! Thanks for this informative video!
@@raretympa Teenagers can get just as panicky with the same stuff as a panicky teenager, I'd be scared to tell my parents that their money was stolen because of a scam, because they'd lose a lot of trust in me.
@@TiSklmao i mean, i have them disabled, but an unfortunate friend of mine apparently doesn't and didn't know of this whole thing cuz they sent me one of them scam messages, so yeah, can't even trust friends sending links either, i just knew it was not him cuz the chat was dead for a long long time and a message like that out of nowhere made no sense lol
2 people in my friends list have already been hacked by this scam and I myself was almost a victim. thank you for talking about this and stay safe out there!
Well you guys are really that stupid to give your log-in QR code randomly? Like cmon. Those QR codes are meant to log through phones without passwords. Clearly stated by discord. Would you give your text password in order to join a server? No? Then why would you send your unique QR code that acts as an password? Tards lmao.
I fell for this one, and I managed to reset my password quickly but it infiltrated about 50 of my contacts, including numerous other UA-camrs. It was a mess but not a single person was mean about it. I never thought I would fall for something like this; be careful out of there everyone. :)
Dude I was trying to help a friend. Who was DMed it and they wanted me to DM that person. But I went to the server and tried to verify and QR code and was hacked. I would usually never fall for it but I was trying to help a friend and was naive. Luckily I disabled my account and stopped them.
Saw this get sent to me by a Dutch friend (I’m American) What gave it away as a scam wasn’t the QR code, the Sus bot, or the fact that this server was so strange in how it worked. What gave the scam away was the fact that my Dutch friend with terrible English randomly sent me this message 4 months after our last message in perfect English Upgrades people, upgrades
I didn’t know it was a scam at first. It was just my instinct of “why verify for a server I’m only going to use for a minute” and also my friend was on the luckier hand since he got to unblock everyone and he straight up said he got scammed.
I really appreciate that you’re telling us about what to do if you’ve been scammed and how to handle it (especially for children using their parents cards), not just about the scam. Thank you for educating us!
wick might implement a real QR Code thing tho but then you should look at the bot verified badge and scan the qr code with the camera qr code scanner and not with the discord app.
Thank you for making a video on this! One of my friends got sent this message, and luckily we agreed that they shouldn't click the link. Despite recognizing it was a scam though, we had no idea it was THIS extensive and harmful. It's scary how deceptive these kind of scams can be, especially given that it's using people's genuine fears against them, so hopefully no one else will have to fall victim to these crooks.
I reported this multiple times towards Discord and they said they were handling it. I believe them because I saw many servers getting nuked or shut down because of this singular scam.
@@yeet3385 Well I assume Discord is either goona take away Nitro but put more secure onto it. I just love how Discord is the land of scammers and money farming; not Gaming.
Yea, there were that server and an other server it’s called anime community my friend sent it and said he got hacked tons of accounts are being hacked daily from this.
I was moderating in a discord server called Moop’s coop, and one of the moderator/admins got scammed, I got the message. What’s scary is that to mod in the server you needed two-step verification, meaning the person got hacked even with it. Be safe everyone! (Btw the server got archived idk what happened my phone was taken)
I got one of these today and I new it was a scam from the start, but this is definitely something a younger person would understandably fall for… Scammers really have no shame and no sympathy 🤦♂️
@@2008bunnybigenderflux Yep, but took over a week. They spent almost 200 bucks. I am happy that most of it declined so they only spent 40. I only had 55 bucks at the time so I was happy when they successfully refunded my money. Saved up for a new gpu after that.
This was a scam where I fell for it for because I got it sent to me from a UA-camr that I had messaged a little (so the message made a lot of sense for them to send) and I was very skeptical but still scanned the QR code and then waited and as soon I saw someone disappear from my friends list I changed password and turned on 2FA I also didn’t ever link a credit card or anything to my account so that’s good
@@dizzyheads or how things work! Basic understandings of code and computer function are a lifesaver. “I use this QR code to log in… meaning it logs people in for everyone else too. Therefore, this guy is trying to log into my account!” QR codes are just processes displayed in binary as a picture, more or less.
I almost got hit by this. Luckily, I was so outraged at the mere thought of being accused of this stuff I absolutely refused to even look at the server; much less join it. I almost didn't accept the resent friend request until some other people told me it was a scam!! Thanks for making this video explaining it more in depth and I hope this scam stops/has stopped because it's just outright messed up and preying on people's insecurity.
I'm so glad channels like you exist. I know it might be obvious for most people not to fall for this but some people don't know better. you explain it so calm and easy to understand and tell exactly what is happening. you don't shame anyone for falling for it either. keep making more of these videos! we need more people like you! ill be sharing this video with all my friends and in my server to. once again, thank you!
Its not that i was afraid i just thought my friend was trolling or whatever and i was just curious when i scanned the code it didnt do anything i changed my password anyways but i think it didnt do anything since i have 2 factor authentication and even with scanning the discord qr code it always asks me something.
Not even gonna lie, this one *ALMOST* got me. They had me in the first half because an old server I was in had some weirdass people who I could totally believe would try to fabricate some bs against me. Thank god I thought fast and said "wait a minute...let me do a quick google search first". Scams like this can get anyone, even I nearly got caught. Never trust suspicious messages like these, EVER!
Scams like these are ridiculously easy to notice. Too unusual behavior for any of my friends. Too long single message. None of my friends just randomly send invite links to massive servers either.
Same here, it was kinda random tbh. I was gonna the scan the qr code but decided not to since it's not worth my energy. Then this thing popped up lol (I'm talking about this video). After that i warned my friends about this scam.
I almost fell for it this morning, but I was suspicious of a qr scan verification so thankfully I avoided it and didn't risk losing my 4 years old account lol
My account is almost 6 years old and i also lost it once but in less than a minute I realised that there was some dm's being sent from my account because I was in the main screen where you see all the dm's you sent and i saw activity happening while i was doing something on my 2nd screen. Bot only had time to dm 2 friends before i changed my password. Still a scary experience because i wasn't sure if the bot was still on my account or not
I'm actually glad I have the common sense to not fall for this but I do feel horrible for those who did.. thanks for making awareness about this too hopefully discord does something about it :>
extra info: its less likely that they'll even bother impersonating the owner, you'll probably see around 6 text channels (and no other channels, they were deleted) saying "new-server" with a bot constantly spamming everyone pings along with the link to the scamming discord server i have no clue how they thought a BOT spamming everyone pings in multiple channels and posting a discord server invite that relates to the hacked server in NO way would fool nearly anyone
@@notsam2270 It actually did fool a server. They hacked an owner and the bot only sent it in one announcement channel claiming they "moved" servers. It may have been done by hand however
@@FredDoesStuff0423 i believe that "Iconic Anime Productions", a discord server mostly for the roblox game Reaper 2 had the owner get 'hacked' and the server was taken over by a bot added via their account. i am also talking a bit more about the users knowing that the studio, with its name likely never going to change, would not make a new server called "AMONG US | PACKING | EXPOSING | OTZCHEATS" and spam pings to join it via an unverified bot. i am aware that there are still people who could fall for this but its quite goofy how it relates nothing to the server they have 'hacked'.
Basic rule of thumb, if you see a link that doesn't look official or is weirdly encrypted, don't click it. Another one would be if you see anything about scanning a QR code, I think it's a given but don't scan it.
You don't even need to click it if you don't have F2A on. Because discord uses chromium bots can run malicious scripts in the background when you interact with the invite link. Obviously this includes clicking it but it can also mean just simply hovering over it or being in the chat window too long. 2FA will stop this from happening (unless you actually click the link and scan the code.)
Someone sent me this but it was: “I don’t know why you sent this or something but you sent something really disgusting and you can see down in the server here” The person later said don’t join because they got hacked and thankfully, I saw it as one of those spam servers that keeps pinging you and I was wrong, but I still avoided getting scammed since it is a hacked server
I actually fell for this.. luckily for me I recognized what was going on very quickly and changed all of my passwords and got rid of my billing information. Surprisingly no damage was done on my account, but I would consider myself to be good at recognizing scams like this quickly, and I actually fell for it. Pretty scary to think about all these people loosing their money for seemingly no reason. i hope this video reaches more people and I will definitely spread the word fs.
Same, unfortunately damage was done to my account and messages were sent out to almost all my dms. I deleted most of them but it’s very difficult because pretty much all my dms were deleted. I quickly changed my password and now it’s alright it’s a good thing I didn’t lose my account
I usually assume that stuff like that is a phishing attempt, and I was right again! This one was very suspicious though, so I looked it up just to be sure. Thanks for the vid man, really helped me out.
This would not be happening if schools and other places of education taught basic cybersecurity. The fact that these scams prey on people who don't know how these kinds of things work is disgusting.
Ah, so that's what it is. A friend of mine got this exact message with a join link for some server from a Discord friend. He obviously didn't join (avoiding clicking shady links and joining suspicious servers seems like a good policy in general). Later he found out that the guy who sent the DM had his account hacked. Thanks for explaining how this scam works.
My sister actually almost fell victim to this scam a few days ago, and the only reason she wasn't also hacked is because she didn't see the message until a few days after it was sent and the link had already expired. We were so relieved when we found this video because she had been really worried that her account was the one that was hacked instead, and she has already sent it to all her friends to inform them. Thank you so much for spreading awareness and inciting caution !
Another good thing to do is to leave servers with a lot of inactive accounts or young children in them, because those are the most likely to get hacked. And if you're in any servers you don't use anymore, I'd also recommenced leaving them just in case.
@@realgrenja I know, I meant young children (ages 6-11) who are probably too young to use Discord. I don't think they're dumb, I just think they're more naive than teenagers
being a cybersecurity guy. I fell for it because I trust my friends because I know them from a really long time. This exposes how vulnerable people are to their trust circle.
Could also say it’s like the chain is only as strong as it’s weakest link. Person falls, friend knowing person falls, friend knowing friend falls, you fall
I actually fell for this a couple of days ago, luckily i quickly realised what was going on and was able to recover my account. This is one nasty scam, and it's a well-made one for sure. Don't believe everything you see on the internet, kids.
Can you make a playlist of these explanations of discord scams if you continue making videos covering them? It’d be great to send in servers instead of usual fearmongering paragraphs about scams that go “Dont friend this person they will instantly grab your account/ip!! Because it’s really scary to people who don’t know how these things work or how to avoid them.
I clicked on a fake bot's embedded button. Don't think that alone can do anything, but still followed your steps and they helped me calm down from the panic. Cheers mate.
I love that this guy gives examples about what to say to your parents. Many kids dont know how or what to say to their parents. Good job and thanks for the information!
I fell to this today and noticed it was a scam literally in the same second, never changed my password that fast. because its incredibly easy to change your password it took like 7 sec and the invite was only sent to like 10 people. Also quite lucky that a dont have a credit card linked to my account and always bought my nitro prepaid
I fell for it too and discord like paused my account and sent me an email and I wanted to cry lol. I reset my password and am double checking all my settings lol. Made sure to tell who I could it was a scam.
I guess it's just curiosity that causes most to fall for this stuff, I myself don't fall for this stuff because I'm a RuneScape player, where scamming is the norm.
I almost fell for it, and if it weren't for me googling what discord QR codes were, my account would've been toast. I was worried because I know the stuff people will do if they think you've done bad things. Someone I used to be friends with on discord got exposed for some really nasty stuff (and it wasn't fake), and someone that was friends with them before the exposing literally doxxed them. What if someone were to doxx me over shit that wasn't even real?
@@shellytrueamon some people definitely would. I got this message yesterday and joined the server out of sheer curiosity, knowing damn well I've never taken a single revealing photo of myself or sent inappropriate messages to anyone. Obviously I was thinking it's probably a scam, and the moment I saw the QR code I stopped, started taking message, server and user IDs for the report, then alerted as many people as possible of the scam and got banned. Had I not known better, I definitely would have verified just to see what was in there *out of curiosity.* Stop being so arrogant and ignorant.
I definitely got spooked when I got this scam message from a friend who’s account had gotten hacked. But then I realized: I’m a gamer…I don’t talk to girls lmao. Thank you for the coverage on this latest scam. Please everyone: stay safe, be good to each other, and always ask if you need help.
Because of what he said in the video. When panic takes over, all logical thinking is disabled. The consequences if this is true are big, so people just want to see what it's all about and what they did wrong
in my pov, i was half asleep and a friend i rarely knew sent this message, so it was pretty believable to me. My thought process was someone got into my account and sent random gross pics in their server and it worried me. ig its more about the person who sent it to you. A close friend would've been obvious
You don't even need to click it if you don't have F2A on. Because discord uses chromium bots can run malicious scripts in the background when you interact with the invite link. Obviously this includes clicking it but it can also mean just simply hovering over it or being in the chat window too long. 2FA will stop this from happening (unless you actually click the link and scan the code.)
for me personally, it was a teacher that sent it to me so i immediately took it seriously. I know it's very dumb on my part on retrospective but when a figure of authority accuses you of something like that, you panic.
Notice: 2FA doesn't save you from token grabbers as I was token grabbed by a scammer even with 2FA on. Please, as soon you realize that the link/QR code/exe file is malicious, immediately change your password. As stated in the video, it'll also log you out of all instances, but will also change your token string. Making it invalid for use! Stay safe, stay vigilante fellow users!
@@dukecatfishjunior6291 because it prevents pretty much any method that isn't token grabbing. Brute force or even just leaked passwords are essentially useless with 2FA on since the password doesn't let you log in on its own.
I gotta give em credit for using panic and the urge to defend yourself to cloud your thinking. It worked on me but I messaged a friend who informed me it was a scam so I changed my passwords immediately after. Stay safe out there ya’ll.
Yeah same exact thing happened to me (Even worse because my dumbass decided checking at 5 in the morning was a great idea) I saw the QR code and decided to ask some friends before doing anything else
No joke, this happened literally last week with a friend of mine, and it completely freaked me out and yes, i did tried going to the server but it was with a different name, so i am definitely sure they are other discord servers and scammers in general doing this scummy behavior, but going back, i joined the server, and the QR Code was a huge redflag in my mind, but in such instances like this i was in a huge hurry because my friend in question is like a sibling to me and i didn't wanted to just lose them all of a sudden over something like this, but i was lucky enough to have a phone that has the most horrendous Auto-Focus, that was one of the ONLY times i was glad for having such a poor quality camera on a phone that it saved my account...Thanks Blackview...i guess, But some peoples might ask why would i fall for it? i mean, really? you have to ask this? im sure there is at least one thing everyone in their lifetime said or sent on social media that they might have freaked out over it, for example, private roleplays being leaked with a friend. in any case, i genuinely hope Discord nukes these kind of servers, this isn't the first time something like this happened, there was the whole Steam CS:GO Knife giveaway thing, then the free 3 months Discord Nitro, and now this, Discord really should either step up Security measures, because the fact a big company uses a log in measure that requires a QR Code And said QR Code can steal your account should be pointed and laughed at, or, Discord should step up their moderation on these servers, these aren't just one and done servers, there are hundreds if not thousands of accounts being either stolen completely or used to spread this scam, so when something like Facebook or even Skype has better security measures, it speaks volumes how much Discord actually cares. that's basically my take, also, you earned a sub from me for this video alone
I find it useful sometimes, the QR code feature. If only people would read the red message saying that’s it’s for login in and to not trust it if it was sent from a third party before pressing the button clearly labeled ‘log me in’. I know when you’re stressed it can be foggy but you can’t blame discord for it.
@VoidField101x Is it possible to make for that discord require you to be in the same country as the QR code generated. It does not work with VPN, but it should help migitate it a lot more. Oh maybe just in the same area/LAN.
i got this message before by a guy i played a chess match with. I knew it was a scam, but contemplated looking into the server to see how they operate. Glad I didn't. That bot is so sophisticated i think i would have fell for it
No text you are a sigma male for doing this. A couple of my friends were sadly hacked and they can get in I have high positions in a few servers and I will be sending this video at all those places thank you
Yeah same here, I got a message from a long time friend I use to have on discord, haven't talked to him in about 3 or 4 years. Then he sent that message. I think he got hacked and the person that got his account sent that message
@@M4CHINE69 Yesterday when I opened discord, I was shocked to see all my friends unfriended me, but when I sent a friend request to one of my friends again, I saw that the same message was sent to him from my account, I swear I didn't send it, Maybe I got hacked and the hacker sent that message to all my friends and blocked them. I LOST ALL OF MY DISCORD FRIENDS BRUH, what are they gonna think of me now... Edit: Sorry if my English is bad, I'm not a native speaker.
I remember this scam, a few of my friends became a victim of that scam and got their account hacked and of course they sent me that same message with the server link. Being very skeptical about it I went on to investigate what happened so I joined the server and I saw the qr code verification method to verify and before I managed to verify luckily someone from that server who wasn't hacked stopped me from verifying. I was very lucky to be saved by that person before I became a victim to that scam and after some time my friends got their account back and changed their passwords. According to the person that stopped me from verifying he's stopping others from falling into the scam and getting hacked just like his friend once. I hope that others will be cautious of scams like this and be wary of server links that their friends sent without a clear explaination.
i dunno why he blurred them to begin with, the QR codes are generated for a specific log in attempt and username combo so it's not like it'd do anything if you scanned it
Yeah it's weird. I reported the server to discord Trust and Safety and a few hours later found myself Banned from the server (or they deleted it). Overall it's very sketchy.
What to do to when you fell for it.. 1. Log out 2. Change your password (This changes your discord token.) Just do that in any order you want, just don’t fall for it again.
I got hit with it today in a slightly different form, had just woken up and had a moment of sheer stupidity. I caught on quickly, left the server and changed my password in like 2 minutes. Thankfully Discord themselves blocked several of the transactions and only 2 $9.99 nitro's went on my credit card. Still sucked having to message all the people fast AF to warn them, as well as cancelling my credit card and opening up a fraud claim, but hey I guess it could be worse. Thank you for trying to spread this info!
Oh my god I’m so glad i got this video recommended. I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder so when I got that message naturally I freaked out. I was this close to falling for it but this video saved my acc. Tysm
I've actually had similar PMs from people whenever I get active in public servers. I just laughed and deleted the DM because I don't have the balls to send anyone anything yet they claim that I did.
This is a good... Pun accidental or not... I am someone whos paranoid.. I did get an email of people going "i got pics of you naked" thingy.. Despite me never using my laptop (phone so if i ever change or anything it doesnt really face me) and it was over a week... I had to go through an hour of panic before i can think logically
I never even joined the server because I had the mindset that perhaps there's some zero-day vulnerability out there that could hack my account if I even joined the server. Glad to know it wasn't quite so dangerous, even though many people still fell for it
Altough I'm not proud of it I did fall for another (albeit thankfully not quite as bad scam neither in lure nor consequenses) a while back-- and I can confirm that those things really do work STUPIDLY fast. In my case it was arguably worse cause the actual message spamming didn't even start until the next day when I had pretty much forgotten about the whole thing, meaning that I thought I'd be just fine only to wake up the next day to hundreds of notifications + bans from every single public community server I was on at the time. Pretty sure the whole thing lasted about 20 minutes-- cause in all honesty I didn't really know what to do and the whole situation gave me kind of an anxiety attack which I needed to calm down from, but as soon as I had gotten my password changed and all that stuff the main event had at least stopped and I could finally answer some of the confused DMs I had gotten as I was no longer being rate-limited by the fucking bot spamming messages. After this I spent over an hour going through every single DM and every text channel of the servers I was still on removing all of the links as well as answering any confused messages. TLDR; I felt stupid as fuck and cried a bit while a bot got me banned from at least 10 servers + confused everyone in my rather long friendlist for aproximately 20 minutes. Please for the love of god don't be like me and fall for things that in retrospect are SO OBVIOUS (also if you too stay up late on discord with poor vision-- don't click on sus links you can barely see the typos in cause you're blind as fuck).
I figured someone was impersonating my acc so I went to check what was happening. This was when the server had only like 2k members. And I saw a QR code and knew instantly it was a set up.
A friend of mine was hacked by this once, and I almost did too. the only thing that saved me from it was a user in the server with a name and bio saying to leave. actually, I'm still not sure why I almost fell for it. I wouldn't have ever sent anything gross to anyone, but I guess I just didn't realize that through the fear.
3:20 The shit I've got from my mom for HER mistake of providing HER phone number when I've sent her to renew MY debit card, so SHE received the SMS confirmation code for MY purchase which I DARED to ask for at a time when it was inconvenient for her... no thanks, I rather make a deal with the devil than to involve my mom in my finances ever again.
This happened to me, but I was on iPhone and wasn't able to authorize my self or whatever the server needed me to do. Soon after that, my friend said he got hacked and that's why he sent me the message. Good thing I was on mobile.
Hey man thanks for this, I recieved this message when the scams started going around and I notified my friends and we all started to freak. They ended up forcing me to block everybody, leave all servers, and change my password. Worst of all is that I also had to delete my account that i've had for 2 years and I was devastated when I found out it was less severe than it was. I had old time buds on there and they don't get on as frequently so that's just completely fucked. Thank you though for spreading the awareness, I wish I could have gotten to this when it was all still happening. Everything's okay except from the fact I lost some old friends but people come and go. God bless you and your family, I hope you read this!
Discord seriously needs to do something more against scam bots. A few ideas; Make it so all accounts MUST have a history of messages (maybe 100) on a server with more than 2000+ individuals and not be banned from that server with the related messages within a week. Have servers use the "accounts can only DM individuals if they have a verified phone number" setting on at default. When I saw option this for my server, I was surprised.
Neither of these actually are that effective. For the phone number, you just link the number of the bot to be with the person owning it, and the first one also sucks, because the bot owners can just change the bot, and poof. More dangerous and harder to remove bot possibly. I do think these arent that good ideas. I just think that links to non famous websites should be banned (Non famous not being stuff like youtube facebook twitch twitter facebook snapchat etc)
@@pocket3216 Your method sounds good on paper, but as we see now scams are guiding people to other discords, not websites, therefore making that a really, really easy loophole. Restrictions need to be made to prevent bots from messaging at all in the first place. They'll keep finding loopholes until there is a verification system in place that makes it too difficult to use bots. That is why bots need to be stopped before they can DM at all. If you restrict links, you'll be making it annoying for regular users.
As someone who has been groomed in the past and sent images, the fear of that ever showing up again on the internet is legit a concern I have. Someone could be staging me with use of messages and media to take use of me or ruin me. So I geniuenely took it personal when that message came from a good friend who somehow was stupid enough to fall for this. I'm not that stupid to scan random qr codes, but I definitely joined in attempt to see the evidence there was against me as it could've been report worthy to legal authorities. It also happened before people started to warn, post or make videos about this scam, I was lucky my friend came on like 5 mins after it happened and unblocked me.
I fall for this scam . Bro in minutes they took over my whole account sending spam links to other channels and my friends. I got kick or banned from other channels . It’s the worst feeling you can’t do much. Thankfully I restored my account back and I apologized to some servers and my friends and advise them of this scam.
Hi there, after doing some digging I would also want to add some points that will make you know that its fake... my first point is that they usually use your friends accounts to send the messages so that it will not look harmful, meaning that they hack your friends account and send it to the people in dm's. Secondly, the hackers using your friends account will send a message that goes along the lines of "Hey I don't know if this is really you, but there was someone impersonating you and you sent a message to someone" another one that I recently found out is they may also say that you sent nsfw content like the p word (I don't want to say it but its the website). To continue on from there they ask you to verify and that they will block you until you explain yourself. Another server excluding the shame one is a anime community server where they also require you to verify through qr code scanning. Usually anything that requires the QR code verification will most likely hack your account. Anyways I think that's all I have so far, hope this helps ^^
Had someone send me the message, i basically just ignorred and blocked them since i didnt care enough to deal with discord drama, it was also from a friend i never talked to in 3 years. good to see i dodged a bullet
The fact that people fear losing their friends who they've never met on discord and willingly follows the scam instructions where indicators of it being a scam is mindblowing to me. Like so what if you send a girl nudes, it's literally non of their business, if you have a helicopter friend you might as well tell him to fuck off.
There is also another scam thing going on. They tell you that you have chosen to be in hype team and firstable they link discord's official "Discord Tester's" server then they want you to long into your account from their website which looks like discord's website
Man thank you so much for making this video, I got hacked yesterday and thought it only sends links of the server to other people but today it gifted two discord nitro to them. That cost me 26 dollars but I don't really mind because it could have been much worst. I tried contacting discord support but they can't refound claimed gifts. Learned my lesson today.
I lost my 6 years old account today , its f*cked :/ i just deleted my acount since i panicked. I really hope no one else falls for this. I changed the email, password, warned all my friends and deleted the account. I also feel worried, since the account had over 440 friends but it only managed to block 220 so im guessing it only sent it to 220 people.
I fell for it too. I just changed my password and I’m gonna set up the 2 step authentication thing. I feel really dumb rn 😭 I really hope you’re doing okay now.
Never was I scammed in my entire years of social media use, untill this one, it was so unforunate that I got it sent from someone that I know and would legit send me this type of message so I turned my brain off xD, luckly i relaised my conversations starting to dissapear and acted quickly
Thank you so much! initially after getting this message I thought someone had *already* hacked my account and was doing pervy stuff pretending to be me. Luckily I was sceptical and found this video so again, Thanks :)
The best way to fix scams like this is if discord adds a Login Activity feature like instagram have it then it would be easier to log out the account from another location and also the user can be able to grab the person's ip and all and report it to the authorities!
The main downfall and fatal weakspot with this scam is that it relies too much on you being into drama. Plus if it ends up hacking your most trusted friend or people you haven’t spoken to, you’re gonna immediately know “Yeah something’s wrong” So far the only people who have sent me this server link are people I’ve ghosted due to bad blood from a few years ago As long you know who they are, your interactions with them, and your relationship with them as well, you can easily see through the scam. Though my heart goes out to those you fell for it :(

as someone who makes rants and commentary and also exposes people for their actions sometimes, when i first got the message, i was highly concerned. Although i didnt click on the link because im very careful when it comes to links.
I have alot of reasons to not fall for this scam 1- My friends don't randomly invite me to servers, neither do i 2- I'm currently in 4-5 groups, all of them are from friends of mine, and i'm not active in any of these groups, so i don't know anyone in the groups 3- i don't click random links or join random groups 4- today (August 25th) this scam is very well known, so I know how to identify it and avoid it
This literally just happened to me through a friend and I got so scared but then I looked it up and saw this and the message was verbatim so I'm good now. Thanks for posting this.
A couple of things I should clarify on (click read more)

This server also not only "exposes people" it also disguises as a "new server" as a message from the server owner in the event they do get hacked.
extra info: its less likely that they'll even bother impersonating the owner, you'll probably see around 6 text channels (and no other channels, they were deleted) saying "new-server" with a bot constantly spamming everyone pings along with the link to the scamming discord server
i have no clue how they thought a BOT spamming everyone pings in multiple channels and posting a discord server invite that relates to the hacked server in NO way would fool nearly anyone

Basic rule of thumb, if you see a link that doesn't look official or is weirdly encrypted, don't click it. Another one would be if you see anything about scanning a QR code, I think it's a given but don't scan it.
The weird thing is that that qr code bypasses 2 factor authentication!

No joke, this happened literally last week with a friend of mine, and it completely freaked me out and yes, i did tried going to the server but it was with a different name, so i am definitely sure they are other discord servers and scammers in general doing this scummy behavior, but going back, i joined the server, and the QR Code was a huge redflag in my mind, but in such instances like this i was in a huge hurry because my friend in question is like a sibling to me and i didn't wanted to just lose them all of a sudden over something like this, but i was lucky enough to have a phone that has the most horrendous Auto-Focus, that was one of the ONLY times i was glad for having such a poor quality camera on a phone that it saved my account...Thanks Blackview...i guess,
But some peoples might ask why would i fall for it? i mean, really? you have to ask this? im sure there is at least one thing everyone in their lifetime said or sent on social media that they might have freaked out over it, for example, private roleplays being leaked with a friend.
in any case, i genuinely hope Discord nukes these kind of servers, this isn't the first time something like this happened, there was the whole Steam CS:GO Knife giveaway thing, then the free 3 months Discord Nitro, and now this, Discord really should either step up Security measures, because the fact a big company uses a log in measure that requires a QR Code And said QR Code can steal your account should be pointed and laughed at, or, Discord should step up their moderation on these servers, these aren't just one and done servers, there are hundreds if not thousands of accounts being either stolen completely or used to spread this scam, so when something like Facebook or even Skype has better security measures, it speaks volumes how much Discord actually cares.
that's basically my take, also, you earned a sub from me for this video alone
I find it useful sometimes, the QR code feature. I am offended by you regarding discord mods as 'high position'
@@Marlin123 not that deep
I've gotten 5 friends sending me this message within 1 and a half weeks. It's genuinely insane.
They don't send it, it goes to everyone automatically.
I hope that others will be cautious of scams like this and be wary of server links that their friends sent without a clear explaination.

same, and its annoying
You didn't blur out the QR code in 0:28... I am seeing it perfectly
Yeah, this is some bottom-tier masking.
i dunno why he blurred them to begin with, the QR codes are generated for a specific log in attempt and username combo so it's not like it'd do anything if you scanned it
You saved my account, I saw you in one of these servers with the nickname "THIS IS A SCAM" I immediately watched this video in fixed it.TYSM
Weird thing about the server is that they have a hidden General and Shame channel. I don't know why they put them there but it's weird
They didn't have those channels before but after I pointed it out on my server, they quickly put those channels in 😭
Yeah it's weird. I reported the server to discord Trust and Safety and a few hours later found myself Banned from the server (or they deleted it). Overall it's very sketchy.
@@NockCS The invite links appear to be invalid, so I think it was banned
What to do to when you fell for it..
1. Log out
2. Change your password (This changes your discord token.)
Just do that in any order you want, just don’t fall for it again.
i disabled my account and changed my password when i logged back in, is my account safe now?

Glad to know it wasn't quite so dangerous, even though many people still fell for it
some of the worst blurring in human history 0:27
This really shows that even in this times many people lack common sense
Doing gods work my man 👌
the server got banned after a discord investigation.
New it was a scam asap, only people I have sent lewd stuff to were other boys SMH
Now this is an epic gamer moment.
@@NoTextToSpeech indeed big gamer
dm me?😳
my account was used for "free nitro" scams and it got me in a bit of trouble. great job making awareness of these scams!
I figured someone was impersonating my acc so I went to check what was happening. This was when the server had only like 2k members. And I saw a QR code and knew instantly it was a set up.
0:05 my friend got scammed like this too,and i did too but i was TOO LAZY to scan and that`s how the LAZINESS saved my entire ass lol
Discord seriously needs to do something more against scam bots. A few ideas;
Make it so all accounts MUST have a history of messages (maybe 100) on a server with more than 2000+ individuals and not be banned from that server with the related messages within a week.
I just think that links to non famous websites should be banned
(Non famous not being stuff like youtube facebook twitch twitter facebook snapchat etc)
@@pocket3216 for the second one, just limit the amount of phone numbers to one per account as for the first idk lol
@MaggySpace I'm ok
I’m sorry, that must’ve been scary. I hope you’re well
From the way you talk about over explaining things and the bot ID, I know the pain of it brother :D
Like so what if you send a girl nudes, it's literally non of their business, if you have a helicopter friend you might as well tell him to fuck off.
are you high??? you'd get banned lmao
@@myste3178 You're telling me you can't send nudes to girls on discord?
I feel really dumb rn 😭
I really hope you’re doing okay now.

The easiest way to avoid this is to never put in your login details into a site unless you navigated to the site yourself
This is one of those times when not having credit card on use is perfect
tysm man life savior ik this is a scam but people like you make the world a better place
The best way to fix scams like this is if discord adds a Login Activity feature like instagram have it then it would be easier to log out the account from another location and also the user can be able to grab the person's ip and all and report it to the authorities!
Okay thank you for posting this. This recently happened to a couple of my friends.
The main downfall and fatal weakspot with this scam is that it relies too much on you being into drama. Plus if it ends up hacking your most trusted friend or people you haven’t spoken to, you’re gonna immediately know “Yeah something’s wrong”
So far the only people who have sent me this server link are people I’ve ghosted due to bad blood from a few years ago
As long you know who they are, your interactions with them, and your relationship with them as well, you can easily see through the scam. Though my heart goes out to those you fell for it :(
2 of my friends got hakced from this. 1 one them sent me the message and i almost fell for it. im so glad i didnt. thank you for spreading awareness and everybody please stay safe!
as someone who makes rants and commentary and also exposes people for their actions sometimes, when i first got the message, i was highly concerned. Although i didnt click on the link because im very careful when it comes to links.
I have alot of reasons to not fall for this scam
1- My friends don't randomly invite me to servers, neither do i
2- I'm currently in 4-5 groups, all of them are from friends of mine, and i'm not active in any of these groups, so i don't know anyone in the groups
3- i don't click random links or join random groups
4- today (August 25th) this scam is very well known, so I know how to identify it and avoid it
This literally just happened to me through a friend and I got so scared but then I looked it up and saw this and the message was verbatim so I'm good now.
Thanks for posting this.
