I swear you’re like my makeup therapist. You know how sometimes therapists are there to point out some things that are obvious in hindsight, but actually thinking of them yourself seems impossible? That’s what you’ve done with makeup for me. I can’t believe I never thought of doing my lipstick first THEN my lip liner. Also therapists will give you new techniques to work on, which is basically your whole dude series for me. Seriously though, your channel has completely changed both how I look at makeup application and my actual makeup application process.
My lips have that beveled line too and I always struggle with anything that’s not lipgloss. Thanks for the video. You’re always so good about actually giving useful tips and tricks
It took me so so sooooo long until I discovered that is best to apply the lip liner with the pencil flat instead of using the point. Nobody ever explain this detail that makes it much easier. Thank you for being an amazing teacher.
Healthy skin is crucial when you're using it as a canvas for applying make up, your skincare journey is one of life's great success stories. Your skin looks amazing.
I have pretty full lips and also a very deep cupid's bow. Mine tend to look pouty too, which most people say they desire but sometimes it makes me look almost mad or frowny. I've used your tips before to make them look a little bit more smiley. You have great makeup tips, Alex. Thank you! I just put some lipstick and liner on using the technique you showed here. ❤
I have the double line too and have always struggled with it 😭 If I don't "overline," my lips look smaller than they naturally are, just like in this video. I'm glad to see another person tackle this lip shape
I NEEDED THIS! I always thought that my lips looked clownish whenever I used lipliner. Didn’t realise I was actually lining the skin above my lips, rather than the bevel. You’re amazing 😻
OMG I am so happy I'm not the only one!My lips are fairly thin and everytime I tried over lining I too felt like a clown and it weirded me out so I'd just wipe it off.
My goodness. I'm 63 and rarely, if ever, used a lip liner because of a beveled lip line. I'd never seen this on anyone else and honestly thought my lips were sort of strange. Thanks so much Alexandria. I'm celebrating tomorrow with pouty lips💋🎉
You're one of the most pleasant youtubers I've ever seen. You explain everything very clearly, never in an arrogant way, and make funny faces, all while looking gorgeous but never fake. Great job! I'm looking forward to see new videos of yours!
I've noticed the pigment has started to fade on my lower lip, left side, around the 'line' and so lining my lips has become super stressful for me because nothing looks right. I come on, just as I'm about to do my lips and need a mental break, and here's your video. It worked. I don't feel lopsidded or overdrawn or odd in anyway. I feel my lips look so pretty 🥰 thank you so much for the quick, easy video guide!
Mine too. The bevel has become more prominent on my left side as I have aged and I get so frustrated. I buy lip products but never use them cos I feel lop sided
Thanks for this! I also have a double line and feel like it looks weird whenever I apply lipstick normally so I usually go for a smudgy lip so that the colour reaches the actual edge, but I have been scared to overline because I did way too much (for my personal taste) a couple years ago and cringe looking back. Can't wait to try this technique!
All I can say is WOW. I have struggled with filling in my lips for so long because every time I would do what you did at first - apply color to just the inside of my lips - and call it a day. They always looked so much smaller and puckered than how they look bare, and I figured that lip color was just not for me. But whenever I tried to over line, I looked like Walmart Trixie Mattel… yikes. This is the first tutorial that I’ve come across that was easy to follow and make me feel so good about my lips. They look natural and effortless but also plump and enhanced and not shrunken! tysm Alex ily ❤️
i love that you do these sorts of videos, things that everyone is kind of just expected to know how to do. Like in every other tutorial it always just says things like 'then line your lips using this and add lipstick' but you dont presume that everyone knows how to do everything. Its greatly appreciated and very helpful
Yiure like one of the few makeup people who actually explains things, PERFECTLY. I could never do it properly, so many beauty gurus have the pillowy lip filler and its impossible to relate. You tell us how to hold and use the item, get to the point, I love it.
Giiirl! No such thing as "basic" when it comes to your tips/ tricks. I've never really liked doing my makeup, from foundation to lip liner simply because I have incredibly oily skin I mean I'm pretty sure I produce enough oil daily to season a salad 😅. My sister introduced me to your channel and I can honestly say I have learned to love doing my makeup. You're unbiased, honest, and pretty damn funny, love your videos!
I'd previously never worn lip liner before until about a week ago (always used a liquid lip or went for a blotted lip) and holy cow does it change the game! I didn't over line and STILL managed to look like I had full lips! Like, where tf did those luscious babes come from?! Definitely looked more dimensional and really completed my makeup look, I think.
Couldn’t take my eyes off your skin, it’s so healthy and glowing, makes everything look 100 times better! Thank you! I always struggle with lining my lips and prefer to stick to lip tints that don’t smudge. Hope this helps me! Applying lip liner right now (going out to dine with my precious family)
Your tutorial - and explanation - is amazing! You’ve become one of my favorite beauty YTers. You are so creative, and your “teaching style” clicks so well for me - you have a GIFT!! I remember watching Mary Greenwell many years ago talk about how we have two lip lines, and that we should line the outer one. Every since then, it’s what I’ve been doing, and I find it works so well. Great video, as always, Alex! 💕💕
Thank u for this! The one thing I struggle with my makeup is lining my lips😩 it always ends up looking so unnatural and silly even when I try not overlining💞
I have thin lips (especially the top one) and always wondered why my lips seemed to disappear when i smile with lipstick on. this really helped. I noticed from your previous vids that you do this and started doing this just recently too. Glad you came out with a tutorial though. my lips certainly needs that overline especially the top one.
I really am glad that you stopped overlining your lips the way you did in the past. I do recall commenting in one of your videos that you certainly didn't need it. It was too much attention on the lips. This look suits you much better and we can actually focus on your other beautiful features and not just your lips. Thank you Alex for always sharing your continuous journey of trying to find what suits you better, because that is what we all try to do. Very much appreciated 😍Take care.
I find it actually gives me that perfect look if I just barely over line the cupids bow and connect it to the rest of my lip line because then the shape looks involved with the rest of my face and doesn't just look colored in like if I just follow my natural lip line 👌👌
I've been experimenting with new ways to lip it up lately. I'm thinking of lip liner more as a contour (additionally using contour beneath the bottom lip) to try and give the illusion of fullness. It's additionally more challenging when aging happens: I'm relearning everything makeup. Thanks for another helpful video.
Thank you so much for this!! I love lips and doing mine but never ever think I’ve done them right. This helps so much. No wonder you’re my beauty guru!!
I have very full lips and I have always hated lipstick on myself. I think my issue is the “undone” affect you speak of. I really appreciate this video!! Also i think addressing how to foundation or “shadow” around your lips alike in your newer video on how to achieve big lips might help make it look more natural for me instead of just contour all around the lips beforehand. Thank you again this is so helpful!!
Omg this was soooo helpful! I’ve seen a few other tutorials and none of them suggested how to hold the pencil. I followed along and wow what a difference! Thank you ❤
The quality of this video *chefs kiss*💖 So many great tips. I always feel like I leave your videos knowing so much that I didn’t before.. and for that, i Thank you!!💖
I almost have to over line on one side of my lower lip to create symmetry because it’s crooked and fuller on one side vs. the other. I went to get lip filler and they said “if I ‘correct’ it, it’ll effect your smile, and you have a lovely smile”, which I respected the honesty.
There's a lot of make up materials and techniques videos out there. But I love the way you break down the why in your videos. Hands down you are my favorite make up you tuber. ( and you have a cool personality which helps too). Thanks for all your hard work
Thanks so much for sharing this tip! My lips don't have a defined cupids bow (its more straight across at the top) and wondered how to draw it without making it look so obvious. I guess I was using the tip of the pencil instead of the flat. 🥰
I love you. We have a very similar complexion when I’m fair and eye colour/shape, same situation with deep set and dark under eyes. Now our beveled lips too😭 you’re a life saver!!!
My biggest issue with lips is trying to figure out which liners and lipstick colors should go together and what colors would look good on me. (I’m fair-olive like you) I basically always go without lipstick/liner when I wear makeup. I’ll just go out with a clear gloss or chapstick… I’d love some tips/tricks/examples on everything lips specifically about color!!! 👄💋💋
okay alex i CANT wait to watch this video but i’ve been dying to ask you a question/make a video request how tf do i blend my makeup without it disappearing????? it seems like i have a perfect blush/contour/concealer layout, and there’s like a two-dab window from “clown contour” to “no makeup makeup.” like how do i blend makeup to be smooth without blending it away? THANKS GIRLIE
The lower part of my lips, I also have a double lining & to make things even more tricky for me, on my right top corner of my lip next to my “ Cupid’s bow” I have a scar from when I was in the hospital from the day i was born I was a premie… so I had multiple needles on me. So I struggle getting a perfect lip. But I will definitely try and do this lip liner trick ! & see it that helps . Thank you so much Alex !!! You’re simply the best !!! ❤️✨🥰❤️✨❤️🥰✨❤️🥰😊❤️🥰😊😊
Wow….This was the best 7 minutes of my day today. I just love your approach and how you never drag shit out. I learn so much from your work. Thank you!😘
OMG I've totally got the same thing going on with my natural lip line! I didn't even know what to call it or if it was normal. I always struggle with lining and lipstick because of it so I just gave up and stuck with gloss lol. Yours look great!!! I def need to try it your way
I think your “undone” lipstick looks amazing too. I wish people saw the beauty of lips that aren’t “inflated” with over lining or fillers. I love a natural look. ❣️
Thank you for this! I’m gonna try following this to a t 🥰 Lip liner and tbh lipstick in general have always been my nemesis. My lip line is all wonky from the scars/pigmentation… i have had so many pimples around my mouth over the years that it’s faded my natural line! Every time i have tried to line them it’s a failure because i aways end up looking weird 😭 Hoping for succes with this! You look stunning as always! 💕
I have similiar lips... the double lining or bevel thing you describe.. always made it tricky because I feel there is no definite distinction between my lips and my face... def takes practice.
Going over my faint and soft coloured lips with a pencil resulted in asymmetric lines and weird looking lips. My "technique" is to firstly apply like a coloured lipbalm. I do this just in the center of my lips and then spread it until it kinda looks like those Korean lips (dark to light). Or just until everything is lightly covered. After that I clean up the outlines when needed. This is when I can see the outlines or shape of my lips. Then I just out on some liquid lip on top of the lip balm as it will prevent it from looking dry af. Then i tap on top of the liquid with the lipbalm just to adjust the colour the way that works for my outfit that day. Works for me and people like it as well 🤷🏽♀️ So this tutorial really confirms that my technique is actually not bad😳
I'm so glad you did this video! I have kind of thin lips, but I also have the double/beveled lip line thing. Exactly! The bevel is so tough! We appreciate you showing us this technique.
Same ! It always feels unnatural but this tutorial is super helpful 🥰
Same, my lips are already big too so I always worry about over-lining them but I’m going to try it
@Kimi Norman Me too and I LOVE lipstick
Me too!! It drove me crazy but it looks good on her for some reason lol maybe I'll try these products
It took me so so sooooo long until I discovered that is best to apply the lip liner with the pencil flat instead of using the point. Nobody ever explain this detail that makes it much easier.
Thank you for being an amazing teacher.
I have the double line as well and NO ONE HAS EVER TALKED ABOUT IT. It’s been a struggle to get the right shape and depth. Thanks for this video!
Healthy skin is crucial when you're using it as a canvas for applying make up, your skincare journey is one of life's great success stories. Your skin looks amazing.
The queen of none annoying actually helpful videos is back
Your skin looks INCREDIBLE
😭 Thank you love 🙏🏼❤️
Came here to say this.
I have pretty full lips and also a very deep cupid's bow. Mine tend to look pouty too, which most people say they desire but sometimes it makes me look almost mad or frowny. Btw that line outlining your lips is called a vermillion border! I just found out. It’s so cool sounding!
I have the double line too and have always struggled with it 😭

You're one of the most pleasant youtubers I've ever seen. You explain everything very clearly, never in an arrogant way, and make funny faces, all while looking gorgeous but never fake. Great job! I'm looking forward to see new videos of yours!
I appreciate you saying how you hold the pencil as you glide it. Really helpful!
I love that you keep us updated whenever you find or develop a new technique!

almost to a million subs , be proud of yourself today 💕
This is sooooo helpful! I have the same exact "double" lined bottom lip line and my top lip also sticks out without color! This makes so much sense.
Yiure like one of the few makeup people who actually explains things, PERFECTLY. I could never do it properly, so many beauty gurus have the pillowy lip filler and its impossible to relate. You tell us how to hold and use the item, get to the point, I love it.
Out of all the makeup people on the whole internet, you're the one who's actually improved my technique the most
Thanks for helping me line my lips correctly Alex ❤️
You are honestly so beautiful!!
Giiirl! No such thing as "basic" when it comes to your tips/ tricks. I just tried this technique and for my oddly shaped, thinnish lips it worked very well! Thank you so much for this video!
Imagine being THIS pretty 🥲
I’m so glad you mentioned the double lip line. I can’t wait to try this tomorrow. 🖤💋
Thank u for this! The one thing I struggle with my makeup is lining my lips😩 it always ends up looking so unnatural and silly even when I try not overlining💞
Same for me, I've mastered everything else except my lip line and it seems like it should be easy but it's really not.
I love the fact that you don't use face filters in your videos
Your lips are perfect ♥️ The first lip liner was very flattering on you.
I really am glad that you stopped overlining your lips the way you did in the past. I do recall commenting in one of your videos that you certainly didn't need it. you literally have the dream eyes.. color shape and everything
The lip-liner is a nice finishing look....
Thank you so much for this!! I love lips and doing mine but never ever think I’ve done them right. This helps so much. No wonder you’re my beauty guru!!
You should do the “overlip” Korean technique. It’s so natural yet plump looking
I love you and your videos. You’re so real and relatable.
I swear the GAWD u never ran out of content for us, I’m learning on every video
I learned thanks to you, that I have hooded eyes! And now double lined lips 😂🤦🏻♀️ Best teacher for makeup AND my face. Love ya

So many great tips.
I always feel like I leave your videos knowing so much that I didn’t before.. and for that, i Thank you!!💖
You *never* fail to explain everything so understandably. I struggle waaay to hard with using Lipstick and liners.
i love how anytime i have a make up concern i search it up and your videos show up with exactly what i needed ❤️
Lisa Eldridge showed this technique years ago on her own UA-cam channel. Glad to know you love it too!
That lip liner is my faaaave. My go to for yearsssss
I almost have to over line on one side of my lower lip to create symmetry because it’s crooked and fuller on one side vs. the other. I went to get lip filler and they said “if I ‘correct’ it, it’ll effect your smile, and you have a lovely smile”, which I respected the honesty.

suuuuper helpful! i love that you give such focused videos and explain the reasoning behind the techniques. side note: your skin looks amazing!
because of you and this video I just learned I have a double lining on my lips as well!!
*Girl! your eyes are like gems* WOW love the video thanks!!! 🙌
Really happy to see you today Alex ❤️
Great tutorial as always! Love you❤️
🙏🏼❤
The end result is PERFECT
This was very helpful!!! I have always had trouble with lining my lips. Thank you!
i fricking LOVE YOU thank u for always being so helpful MWAH
Thanks so much for sharing this tip! My lips don't have a defined cupids bow (its more straight across at the top) and wondered how to draw it without making it look so obvious. I guess I was using the tip of the pencil instead of the flat. 🥰
Yes I needed to know this thanks for sharing
I’m not a beginner I just suck at make up
I love you. We have a very similar complexion when I’m fair and eye colour/shape, same situation with deep set and dark under eyes. Now our beveled lips too😭 you’re a life saver!!!
your videos made me see makeup as an art rather than a chore again
This is the most important video ever, thank youuuuuuu ❤️
My biggest issue with lips is trying to figure out which liners and lipstick colors should go together and what colors would look good on me. I’ll just go out with a clear gloss or chapstick… I’d love some tips/tricks/examples on everything lips specifically about color!!! 👄💋💋
I’m also a fair olive and I should the lip liner raspberry from Lancôme. The color is similar to my lips and works with any lipstick.
okay alex i CANT wait to watch this video but i’ve been dying to ask you a question/make a video request
how tf do i blend my makeup without it disappearing????? it seems like i have a perfect blush/contour/concealer layout, and there’s like a two-dab window from “clown contour” to “no makeup makeup.” like how do i blend makeup to be smooth without blending it away?

Thank you for this tutorial. I have a nice Cupid’s bow & was never sure how define it without overdoing it.
I have waited my whole life for this tutorial
The smallest things make such a huge difference! ✨👄✨
Yaaay!!!!! You have the most beautiful lip shape
Thanks for helping me figure out what I was trying to do with my small-medium asymmetrical lips.
I hit like before the video starts because I know I’m gonna love it 😍
You are always so helpful with the way you explain things. And you look gorgeous as always! ❤️🖤❤️
Thanks for sharing! Just bought a new brown eye pencil today, inspired by your every day smokey eye thing you posted a while back
Going over my faint and soft coloured lips with a pencil resulted in asymmetric lines and weird looking lips. Works for me and people like it as well 🤷🏽♀️
So this tutorial really confirms that my technique is actually not bad😳
This was a great tutorial. Made much more sense than others that just quickly draw & I'm like😳... 🤪
This is so helpful. Thank you. Gonna give it a go, lived the video ❤️
This was soooo helpful! I have very similar lips and I always feel that I underline or overline them too much. This is gold! Thank you so much!
Wildly helpful.
I'm so glad you did this video! I have kind of thin lips, but I also have the double/beveled lip line thing. I've tried over the years to only fill/color the main part, within the first line, and I've tried to go out to the second line. Honestly, when I do the latter, even though I have thin lips, going all the way out to my second line always looks weird (I think). But you've inspired me to revisit this technique.
Thin lips squad! I look like I don't even have an upper lip, and my cupid's bow is so intense that i makes me look slightly birdlike lol
How!? That was so helpful. I always line my lips and I just learned a new way to do it. Thank you.
Your skin looks beautiful
Omg looks so good i cannot wait to try this method
Your videos are always so interesting and unique. You rock it! 🔥👍😉
I have the line and love lipstick, sometimes I miss the goal, sometimes I understand the assignment lol. Good to know I’m not alone
Like for the wrist crack! I have the weird lip bevel as well, now I understand why glossy/shiny lip products look weird on me
