Many years ago my wife and I walked into a Walmart to grab a few food items and they had a rack of shirts at the door with a big sign that said, CLEARANCE 25% off!! She then detoured towards that rack of shirts and started browsing through them. I said, "what are you doing?" Her response was, "I'm looking at the shirts they are 25% off" I said, "do you need a shirt?" Her response was, "no, but they are 25% off" I said, "well if you don't buy one then that's 100% off." When female shopper emotions take over it just kind of short circuits the brain from all logic, actually one could say that about many men also. I think we all have a tendency to buy things we don't need, but it fits an emotional need at the time. These marketers have it all figured out.

I don't really understand this mindset of buying things "on sale" if you don't need them. If I see a TV that is 50% off, I don't even think of buying it because my current TV is fine. I guess some people are just wired differently.

I got a buddy in debt that always buys things on sale because "it was such a good deal, I couldn't pass it up". Well it might have been a good deal, but you got yourself into $12k in cc debt because you didn't need it and didn't pass it up.
