Loved these guys in the 70s ... Melbourne Southside6 playing this song whilst running around dance dressed only in huge nappies!...😂😂... But we were quite well conditions to strange things having aunty Jack just started on TV at the same time,,, back in the day that bands had full entertainment with fantastic sound with merriment... As a side note you used to get 5 glasses of beer for $1 😁
I still have the cd and lp and it play it often so many great cuts on it and a top title Stuffed They recorded some other albums but none matched the first
One of the guitarists turned up to my 21st in Alice Springs, we had a band there, in the bush and he asked to play. I got his autograph that night. It was 1986. Great long weekend, bon fire, bbq, keg, band, booze in an old fridge on it's back, random people joining us in -4°.
Does anyone remember Mother Goose?.. Just a shame they didn't take it all so seriously 😞 Great Band!!.. Great Bunch of Muso's!!.. Great Bunch of Friends. I would just love to of known what we would of got from these guys!!. Rush Maybe!! Skyhooks Maybe!!.. Who Knows😞 Awsome Band though, not mentioned much in Australian Rock ( Kiwee Rock ) TISM😊
Mother Goose was the very first concert I ever went to as a 17 year old at the Regent Theatre, Dunedin, NZ, December 1977 IT WAS FANTASTIC.... I remember they played "Baked Beans" & "Paint It Black" As far as I know Craig is in Melbourne, Marcel & Denis are in Dunedin, - Not sure about Pete, Kevin & Steve.....
They are actually from Dunedin in New Zealand, but decamped to Melbourne in 1976 and this was their only major hit reaching #18 in Australia and #37 in New Zealand, the song was recorded in Melbourne and hence the lack of Watties baked beans. The group had bizarre stage acts including mini tramps which sprung bearded guitarists at you (From a book written by NZ 70s nerd Ian Chapman).
Saw these guys live at the National Hotel in Brisbane in the early days. They were one of many great bands to venture across the Tasman around that time.
We you to see them at Revesby workers club . Most times they opened for other bands but when they played as the headline they were just brilliant . Man they could play but the whole show was so much fun . The buzzing fly that they chased around the auditorium while the lead singer hit people over the head with a rolled up newspaper trying to catch it . Loved them .
Australian radio duo Tony Martin and Mick Molloy joked that Mother Goose should have been invited to play at the 25th Anniversary Concert for Mushroom Records.
i saw this great band at cross keys chessmans disco melb never forget there outfits, the bee with the stinger and the duck cannot say what was going on with the stinger???and there baked beans song, wish i was there again so much fun that night
Filmed at the old Coles supermarket in Reservoir (850 Plenty road).. edit* it seems I was wrong, and THIS version of the MV was not the one filmed all those years back in Reservoir Vic.. Go hunt that one one, eh?
@@alistairogilvy7696 Gosh, you know what, 4 years later I think you're right. I just went out and hunted the other one out. Well done. It was the other one I saw filmed.
@@wildwombat just strolled down memory lane and noticed the brunette clip had the target logo while the blonde seemed to be in a generic 70's grocery chain. but wouldn't have known it was in reso but for your comment - as your other reply said, thanx for the historic fact :)
I ran into this band alot on the road .. They never really took off as they were always trying too take off the Oils, Madness and Queen and so on. ..They were tight on stage but never really did it big .
Their stage act was a wonder to see, Bass player was first out on roler skates wearing a bumble bee outfit, playing his Bass. Wirelines anstruments in the 70's? NOT sure but they all took up their positions THEN shuffled around like a precision Volley Ball team. A real SHOW band. NO support Just 3 long sets.
Listen to THEIR version (re-arrangement of Paint It Black) lyrics by Marianne Faithful when she was Mick's Junkie friend, Then chck out he movie 'Girl on a Motorcycle' (french) then you will know WHY she was Mick Jagger's girlfriend & think about the lyrics to ALL the early Stones songs> Mick NEVER had 19xnervous breakdowns nor did he use 'Mother's little helper" & he was NOT so depressed that he wanted everything 'Painted Black'
" he married the " baked beans chick " and retired from " mother goose " to please his " wife and mother in law " " to get a responsible job " sew they lived " happily ever baked beans after " as " a baked bean family !" ) the end laugh 😃 😀 😄 😁 🤣
Tell ya why i never liked this band - 'cos i got no sense of humour, that's why. As music it ain't so good, but as a humorous video, it's actually pretty darn funny! NZ band aye, not Aussie.
the wonderful memories i have of watching these guys on COUNTDOWN IN AUSSIE IN THE 70S little kid n mum n us all singing along, crazy ass band BUT OMG THEY ROCKED !!!
Great live Band, tight, punchy & lots of energy.
A pleasure to see them in the early 80's.

Remember watching them at the old shoreline hotel in Dunedin. Great night
I saw them in the in 1978 at the Balga Inn Hotel( or near that time) in Perth, I really enjoyed them and will never forget the Baked Bean song!!
Use to see these guys in Dunedin while working in Twizel early 70's, boy they bring back memories. Music in the 60's and 70's was the best.
I bought the album in 1977.
It's a great Rock album.
I was 16 yrs young.
I still have the cd and lp and it play it often so many great cuts on it and a top title Stuffed They recorded some other albums but none matched the first

Hallelujah baked beans!
Oh glory days of the 1970's, how I miss them.
Saw them several times in the 70s in NZ, actually very talented musos & brilliant harmonies.
I saw them in Perth around 1982. One of the best live bands I've seen. Great fun.
@AntipodianMusic in those days it was common & was sure fun
Back in the day, loved watching them in a Sth Dunedin bar. Amazing musos and nice guys

This was the true inspiration for Queens Bohemian Rhapsody

@Israel Bryce i use flixzone. You can find it on google =)
@Sonny Andres Definitely, have been using Flixzone for months myself :D

despite the costumes and the messin' around these guys were first class musicians. You had to see them live to appreciate just how good they were.
yes they were great
Loved Mother Goose!
one of my favs
think the sale of baked beans rocketed that year. 😂😂
I rememeber my brother coming home in the late 70's with the record album.I thought, what the hell is this!!
Saw them at RMIT - brilliant
To witness the bearded keyboard player do his haunting rendition of Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights will stay with me till the day I die! 😅
haha! I remember this band and song from my childhood!
I saw them in Coffs Harbour. They refused to play bake beans
I remember seeing these guys live in Perth 😀😀
I saw this band live at the tarmac in 1980. cherished memory.
Kevin Mac my late dad and Mum saw them in a pub haha
Brillant
Secret messages being beamed through their music to initiate sequences in real life.
Anne Louise would be sure to appreciate the nutritional value of this ditty
Much greater band than they are given credit for
They were a major influence to many groups
Including acdc and queen
They remind me a lot of Dr Hook
Cold chisel, the angels, men at work & others started as MG support acts :)
love it ..what a memory
Haven’t heard this since I was a kid in the 70s.
looked like these guys put a little humor in their rock to entertain the masses.. they were cool..
Married because of beans?
Frank Zappa approves.

Classic Tongue in cheek N,Z. band / song
Mother Goose, live at the Village Green in Melbourne!

Hard to believe Craig Johnston's father was the mayor of Alexandra in the 1970's
Cooked Beans! 😝
Bohemian Beans
off their faces! they must have had the munchies when they wrote this 😎

Because they are actually from sweeden

He is a Dunedin lad......(New Zealand)
