Wow! So many beautiful pendants you created! I just love to see other women ruling over machines that even now, some seem to think is only for men. Life and hobbies are so much easier and fun with some good tools, and especially a rotary tool. 😊 I know you know this, but if anyone is interested in drilling holes in stone or tiles, this might be of interest: If you have the piece you are drilling into barely submerget in water, on top of a piece of wood, you do not get any dust in the air, and the water will cool off the burr and clean out the drill hole as you are pushing and releasing the burr a couple of times every ten seconds. As a result, your drill bits lasts for months, items do not crack as easy, and it goes much faster to drill through things. A burr that is too hot will loose the diamond coating and become dull, and can also leave burn marks in the hole you are drilling. That is why some kind of cooling must be used. As electricity and water is no good combo, use a flexy shaft or extended arm when using water, as you then can place your rotary tool three feet away and only need to hold the tip of the flex shaft near the water. There is no electricity in the flexy shaft, it is purely a mechanical extension, so it is safer to use near water. For those of us having problems with our hands, it is much lighter to hold the tip of a flexy shaft than the entire rotary tool as well. It is so nice to see what beautiful things can be made if you have the right tools, and a rotary tool will always come in handy as there is not a thing they can not do.
Thank you so much! I appreciate your interest & support! Yes a water bath is the way to go whether you’re drilling a hole, cutting china/glass or working with gemstones! I use exactly what you’re talking about in this tutorial! My preference is the battery powered rotary so I can take it anywhere AND no fear of electricity…even with a flex shaft it’s still plugged into electricity so the risk is there! Plus the spray of water is pretty intense so working outside is helpful if you don’t have a protected area which I used to have but don’t right now! Again Thank You for your kind words! 🙏😊💖
Love your work! You have inspired me to make my own. I tried soldering…but will need a lot more practice at that! I have been leaving the edges as is. I use sand paper to get my edges clean and smooth. The Dremmel sander works great too, but the sand paper helps get a nice edge. Thank you for your tutorials! Praying you made it through the storm!
Thank you kindly! I really appreciate your interest and support. That’s exactly how I started making broken China pieces and just sanding them down so good for you! Keep up the soldering it does take quite a bit of practice. You can totally see my progression from my early pieces to now, lol. 🙏😊💖
Nice❣ i very much like your creations. Been doing things like wiring sea glass and polishing semi precious rocks but sometimes lost interest until i saw your channel i'm inspired now to continue 😊
I'm glad to see you, Karen! Stay safe, friend.🙏🪶🪶🪶 These are really cute! Coincidentally, I just collected a bunch of broken glass and china! I also want to try using the Dremel to carve some stones as well. So, I'm setting up a wet station, using both a big dish and a dripper bottle. And also coincidentally , I just found a glass grinder on FB local yard sale for a great deal. I'll be shaping some of the glass and china by hand using those tools, but a friend is going to loan me a tumbler too, so I can attempt making "sea glass".
Thx my friend! So far just some bands of rain & high winds coming in! I’m so excited for your recent finds & CANNOT wait to see what you create! Amazing finds! 💖
Love these! I have seen many China pieces that look so unappealing in their shape and they are really big, but these are well shaped and a nice size. Thanks so much for the video. Suggestion for a future video- what kind of shops you sell in and how you would suggest pricing. Please be safe with hurricane Helene headed towards Florida. please take care!
Thanks so very much! I took a screenshot of this post so I remember your suggestions for future videos! Thx for well wishes during this hurricane! I feel very grateful as I only suffered minimal cleanup with downed branches & yard debris! I lost power on Thursday afternoon & ended going to my brothers on Friday because no way could I take this heat plus no fridge, etc but I just got back home about an hour ago! I actually just got the fridge cleaned out & hoping it’s still working…fingers crossed 🤞 I’m dreading the yard work especially with my neck!!! Baby steps right? Thx again 🙏😊💖
@@karensintuitivejewelry So happy you and your loved ones are safe. My heart goes out to all those affected by the hurricane. Mother Nature can be a b****. Hope the yard cleanup goes well, a little at a time is the best way. Have a great day!!✨✨✨
You make it all look so easy. I might just try this craft. I used to be into mosaics but there wasn't much cutting with a tool, it was called cutting but it was breaking, chipping and some grinding off super sharp edges. Great job and such a pretty outcome 👍
Thank you kindly! My sister-in-law was a mosaic artist too! She gifted me the grinding machine! I’ve seen some popular broken china jewelry artists using a wet saw for their projects! That would also be very helpful! The tools most frequently used are the stained glass tools such as the nippers, scoring tool & breaking pliers but they’re still tools! I’ve never worked with those & why I learned using the rotary tool but I plan on trying them out! I appreciate your interest & support! 🙏😊💖
@@karensintuitivejewelry right now I'm heavy into upcycling clothing so it won't be any time soon. I did have my eyes on that style of grinding machine in the past. I have a humongous saw on my back patio lol. I won't be going there anymore, it's just overkill from here on out. Please check out mango mosaics here on YT. That lady creates stuff I wish I was young enough to still do. Thank u so much for the inspiration. 💜
Hey Karen - I love your videos so much! I have been watching daily since I found your channel around 4 days ago :D you are inspiring & make beautiful work. I wanted to ask, with the hand drill, could you use another attachment to sand the sides down if you don’t have a box grinder? Would it still need to be wet? Currently saving for a box grinder but would love to get started. Sending love from Nottingham, England.
Thank you kindly! I’m thrilled to hear that you are enjoying my videos! ☺️ You can use other attachments with the rotary tool such as sanding bits or drums BUT I tried a lot of them & found that using the same diamond coated cutting wheel actually works better than any of the other attachments for whatever reason so give it a try! I worked extensively with this attachment because I couldn’t afford a grinder & still can’t justify that big an expense! My sister-in-law gifted me hers & I’ve only used it a few times! I continue to use the cutting blade when I need more shapes than the grinder can produce or when I don’t feel like setting up the grinder outside! It does create a big wet mess! 😂🤪🤣 Just experiment with using the sides of the wheel not the straight edge! I definitely recommend the use of water to keep everything cool as well as eliminating the harmful dust particles that comes off the pieces! The diamond coated wheels are really inexpensive here in the US! They average about $15 for a pack of 8 or 10 wheels! I hope this helps! I appreciate your interest & support! 🙏😊💖
Thank you kindly! Luckily I’m just on the outskirts of this storm so hoping for minimal effects! High wind gusts, storm surges & power outages too! 🙏😊💖
Hi Karen I am new to your channle and to jewlary making this year . What and we’re can a person get the grinder you have? I am poor I can get expensive stuff so I shop around. If you have a list. Of the supplies I need for this form I would appreciate it. I been working on candles and a few basic items but I want to learn more and what kinda Soder tool and the list for that to please and or a list I person you learned to from I brake dishes all the time some I have cried over they were so pretty I tossed out this would definitely be something I could do ❤ thanks I am in Canada Ans I hope you made it ok from the hurricane
Welcome! I appreciate your interest & support! I’m also a starving artist & make do with 2nd hand or used tools & supplies! I only recently started using the Inland glass grinder because my sister-in-law gifted it to me as she retired from mosaic work otherwise I’d still be using the rotary drill with diamond coated cutting wheels! I’ve really only used that grinder 3 times now so all of my previous creations were with the rotary tool! Those are way more affordable than the grinders! I did notice Amazon has some that are way less expensive than the Inland grinder but I couldn’t speak of its performance! Definitely keep your eye out for a used one! I usually list all tools & supplies used in each product in the Description Box below the video but if you don’t see a specific item please feel free to reach out to me as I don’t always remember everything 🤣🤣🤣 You can watch all my tutorials to learn about my favorite items & if there’s a specific creation again check the Description Box for a list! Cool to see you making that texture in the solder with tapping motion too. I haven't been successful at it yet, but I'll keep trying. Maybe a painted gold edge on china would look cool in brass wire wrap. Oh, or a copper patina on a soldered edge, with a copper wire wrap. You are so great with the dotting now too. Very cute🤩
