    How do I know where to order real stones on Amazon Temu wish and not get clay or resin or glass ? And what do I need to get started soft weld basics to get started and ware to find things .

    • @karensintuitivejewelry
      @karensintuitivejewelry День тому

      @@AnnesreborndollsandfunW I don’t recommend ordering from Amazon,Temu, or wish as there really is no way of knowing what you’re going to get. I order about 95% of the time from one vendor on Facebook and have been with them for over three years now. They’re based in the US and always have great shows. The link to their Facebook group is in the description box below each video. There are also many great stone dealers on Etsy and here’s a link to one that I have ordered from and was happy with who is based in the US. And regarding tools and supplies that you will need to get started, I have a tutorial for beginners on my channel that you can watch. Also in the description box below each video, I list lots of the tools and supplies that I use for each of those projects. I highly recommend purchasing a high-quality soldering iron as that’s the most important tool in this craft. It’s a little bit more expensive than your regular run-of-the-mill soldering irons, but you will not be happy with those less expensive ones as I have personal experience with, trust me! So just to get started, you will need a good soldering iron, copper foil tape, lead free jewelry grade soft solder, some alcohol to clean your gemstones before applying the copper foil tape, something like a pair of pliers to hold your stone, and other jewelry findings depending if you’re making a necklace, bracelet or earrings. Again, have a look at the tools and supplies I list under each video. I hope this helps and thanks so much for your interest and support. 🙏😊💖 www.etsy.com/shop/JohariGemsJewels

    I saw a calculation on pricing somewhere that used $25 per hour as the artisan's rate plus materials plus a percentage for wear and tear on equipment. So with 8 bracelets over 8 hours your base is $25 plus the cost of stones, bracelet blanks, etc and maybe 3%? For solder, soldering iron and stamps wear and tear.

    • @karensintuitivejewelry
      @karensintuitivejewelry 3 дні тому

      I recently did a video on how to price your jewelry pieces. I do charge 25 per hour and then it’s typically all of your supplies times three for retail or times two for wholesale customers. I typically go with my gut as most of the formularies seem so high to me, but once in a while, they come close to what my gut tells me.

    Karen, lovely pieces! Im watching at least one video a day (on average) and hoping that is of some benefit to you as it is to me. I have some mounted cabs I wondered if you would take a look at. I got them through an auction and even though they are unmarked, I think they're likely real silver and real stones. I am unable to take them anywhere to ask for help because I am still recovering from stage 4 colon cancer treatment that nearly cost me my life when I experienced total blood loss and incapacitated me due to issues in healing from surgery. I can't find a way to share on YT and I don't have Instagram so Im unsure how to do that. Thanks for any suggestions.

I’m so sorry to hear of your health challenges & recently surgery & complications! I’m sending prayers for a successful recovery & results! My question is what temperature do you set the iron to get it to melt the wire? No one, not even the instructions with the iron tells what temperature is necessary to melt the wire. Please help.

    • @karensintuitivejewelry
      @karensintuitivejewelry 4 дні тому

      @@lisabrians8265 I work most consistently at 360 Celsius adjusting the temperature temperature up or down depending on the project. As you have discovered there is very little instructions on this topic. When you purchase different solder (wire) you will notice that the melting temperature is usually listed on the wire and that’s how you know how hot to set your iron. For example, when simply using the iron for electronic purposes, it doesn’t need to be near as hot as it does when making layers such as we do in the Tiffany method. I hope this helps some! @@lauriesbella1252 thx gf! I had tried a cheaper set last year & they were terrible so I wanted to see if cost was a factor in performance! I believe it is! If you still have those scissors you purchased, you could try the trick I did by putting it with a piece of card stock or thicker piece of paper because that really helps. This weekend I’m going to try again and this time I’m going to put the copper foil sandwiched in between two pieces of card stock and I’ll bet you that does the trick but maybe you should try that too because I do like getting different patterns. 💖

    @karensintuitivejewelry Why do you start with copper when you want it to look like silver? Why not start with either silver, or if that is to expensive,or to hard to work with, why not use a white metal? Love your work by the way.

    • @karensintuitivejewelry
      @karensintuitivejewelry 5 днів тому

      You HAVE to use the copper foil tape with this technique when soldering anything other than certain metals. Soft solder will only adhere to those certain metals and that is what the “copper“ foil tape mimics, allowing the solder to actually adhere to the pieces that have the copper foil tape on them. I’m wondering if you might be confusing the Tiffany Method soft soldering technique with actual silversmithing or metalsmithing techniques? These are two completely different types of mediums! I appreciate your interest and support! 🙏😊

    Wow, that came out really nice, Karen! I would wear it on a piece of light brown suede (or faux suede) cord with a larks head knot for a casual, beachy vibe.

    You make beautiful jewelry! You have such a steady hand too, I’m hoping that if I try this that I can get around that aspect.

      Thank you, kindly! The tremors in my left hand are definitely challenging and not getting any better but I keep pushing ahead. Finding projects that I can do is what keeps me motivated. I appreciate your continued support! 🙏😊💖

    Hey Karen - I love your videos so much! I have been watching daily since I found your channel around 4 days ago :D you are inspiring & make beautiful work. I wanted to ask, with the hand drill, could you use another attachment to sand the sides down if you don’t have a box grinder? Would it still need to be wet? Currently saving for a box grinder but would love to get started. Sending love from Nottingham, England.

      Thank you kindly! I’m thrilled to hear that you are enjoying my videos! ☺️ You can use other attachments with the rotary tool such as sanding bits or drums BUT I tried a lot of them & found that using the same diamond coated cutting wheel actually works better than any of the other attachments for whatever reason so give it a try! I worked extensively with this attachment because I couldn’t afford a grinder & still can’t justify that big an expense! My sister-in-law gifted me hers & I’ve only used it a few times! I continue to use the cutting blade when I need more shapes than the grinder can produce or when I don’t feel like setting up the grinder outside! It does create a big wet mess! 😂🤪🤣 Just experiment with using the sides of the wheel not the straight edge! I definitely recommend the use of water to keep everything cool as well as eliminating the harmful dust particles that comes off the pieces! The diamond coated wheels are really inexpensive here in the US! They average about $15 for a pack of 8 or 10 wheels! I hope this helps! I appreciate your interest & support! 🙏😊💖
