So creative! I am just loving your helpful videos. Thank you so much! I am having a problem with a soft soldering project. I can not get the solder to remelt on the pendant I am working on. Solder from the spool melts fine. I have cleaned everything (the piece, the tip of the iron, fresh flux), but still nothing. Can the solder freeze up if over worked?

I LOVE this piece too!! I have some raw Ethiopian Opal that I’ve been cleaning and keeping all the small pieces too. I put quite a bit into a thick epoxy resin heart, and it came out beautifully!!

Oooooohhh, now there's an idea! Although.... I might have too many ideas forming for one weekends worth of activity!! lol My first goal is finishing one of those pretty open hearts that you made a few videos back. Then I'm going to try to fill it with resin like the Other video, I had dried some Bleeding Hearts & I wanted to see how it would look in the big heart (IF I can get it flat enough), maybe add some crushed rose quartz & garnet... idk. Ideas, Ideas, Ideas!!!!! Thank you for all of them. Have a blessed weekend.

Hi. Those came out so nice!! I just got my fancy soldering kit so I plan to play all weekend with it so this might be a good practice idea. I love that you mentioned the Runes, I have a book also so maybe I'll try them. I was wondering, please, is it possible to set flat backed rhinestones into solder? I have a weird obsession with sparkly pretties, & I scored a crap ton of small rhinestones that I wondered how I would use it..... besides resin. Just wondering, thank you again!

Hi Karen, honestly well done, these are beautiful rings. Also just to let you know I soldered stamped an aluminium piece for a ring and then bent it, I had a very very thin rack but not obvious at all. So I’m going to try that way. Will send you a pic soon. Thanks lovely. I don’t have touch solder and bezel making set up yet. It’s never ending , all the buying and learning but so much fun too. Thanks again

Hello again, Another question for you dear🙂 Do you use those tiny little solder squares on the copper, silver and brass? In other words is it the same one for the different types of metal or do you need different types of solder for different metals? I hope that is not confusing.🤪 And what type of polishing machine do you have? Also what do you find to be an easy beginner’s project? Thank you so much!!

Hey Karen I have been watching your videos and I have to say I love all your projects. I have been soldering for a couple of years now. I soft solder sea glass. I have a piece of larimar that I tried to soft solder but as soon as I apply the solder all around it my foil starts to pull away. I am burnishing it really well. The first I thought maybe it wasn’t burnished well so I started all over again and made sure I really burnished it. Is there any way to make it work.

Oh my goodness, so many steps and detailing have to be done for metalsmithing. I have debated on trying this hard soldering but when I watch you do it I'm like - yeah, maybe not.... lol Even though you make it look fairly easy to create such wonderful pieces, I might stick with the soft soldering and just watch You do it!! I'm still struggling with the soft because I have to invest in a good pen still, that really is important. Ok, off to watch Pt 2 - thank you!

A tip: I saw a jeweler use wire this way: she took out the right amount of tape, removed the back and left it with the sticky side up. Then she lay down the wire on top of the tape, not all the way up, because she rolled the top of the tape over the wire so it was stuck there. Then she wrapped the stone, the wire was already imbedded in the tape and it was very easy to get that look you want but without any air or openings and it was only one operation.

Incredibly cool and beautiful! Never excuse yourself for shaking, it is something most of us sooner or later will be acquainted with and can not be helped. I have started to shake the last year. I have always been so steady on my hands up to the almost insane, and had no problems dealing with beads that were 0.5 mm small or less. Then suddenly out of nowhere I started having shakes, less fine motor skills etc. it is a pain in the arse but that’s life. We learn to work around it. Thank you for showing us how you made these awesome earrings! (I have almost 10 kg of clear crystal quartz points at home and now I know I have to learn how to soft solder and electroplate!

If you cut slits in the foil previous to wrapping the “stone” or before pressing the foil down, it is much easier to get a good result. A rule is that the more curved, the more slits.
