UPDATE #1 (of probably many) After more time with the drone I want to re-iterate that the rates mentioned are FANTASTIC for learning but I am now more comfortable and with loops and rolls in full ACRO I'm finding they arnt responsive enough, I just had another crash yesterday where the drone was rolling too slow and I was too close to the ground, had the rates been higher this wouldn't have happened. Just wanted to share this update!

I thought the rates looked really low. Except for 1 of my cine drones my rates are 667 to 800. But I do make the center less sensitive and add a lil expo

Everytime you roll upside down you have to remove power so that you do not rush to the ground... once you are oriented upwards again then apply power gently to start cruising again. This is unless you actually want to perform a loop in the air around an object or just in an open field, but even then if you want to perform a loop you will have to vary the throttle value constantly to shape it the way you want it to be. you can't really powerloop while keeping your throttle stick in the same position. Also regarding the rates you should study how they work in the DJI, there should be a way to make the center stick positions feel less responsive and have more resolution and as you push the stick on the controller further off the sides then the rates become faster, thats called an exponential curve. Watch this video here by Joshua Bardwell ua-cam.com/video/4celeIqn5WM/v-deo.html - it gives some hints that go beyond the usual tips that are being given about how to fly in acro mode and actually tells you how to think about certain characteristic of the aircraft enabling you to change the way you conceptualise the quadcopter flight so that it resembles more the same as other freestyle pilots, this way you will learn much quicker all the other manoeuvres as seen in freestyle videos we all look up to.

FPv isn’t hard that drone just sucks in comparison to the drones we fly which aren’t made of proprietary components or plastic. I recommend ditching the bug and building something stronger with more readily available components. We use carbon for a reason and once you build your first drone, you will likely never buy that thing again. Being able to customize your drone is like modding your car. Everyone flys similar drones but most builds are unique in some way.

I was flying the DJI FPV with the motion controller in Sport Mode this past weekend and OMG what a blast! I changed the rates as well to look more cinematic and was blasting around in Sport Mode and burned through all 5 batteries. I found it a little tricky at first but I was able to get 90% of what I wanted in Sport Mode and just using the Motion Controller. 1.5 feet across the ground and lake near me at 60mph+ and unbelievable tight turns, shooting tiny gaps, etc. More fun than I've had in the past 230 flights with my Mavick 2 Pro and EVO 2 Pro!

If you have no experience with drones get the motion controler, you loose some capabilities you can race around like a mad man (only sport not manuel) and still have a high degree of control just tilting your wrist. After one day I was chasing my brothers fixed wing planes with the FPV drone and having a blast. I am still practicing with the original controller, and getting better but still can't "chase" my brothers planes without the lazy controller.

Eventually I moved to a Mavic Air and very recently the new DJI FPV and this video is the ONLY one that honestly explains exactly how the transition is. Happy flying fella and may any future crashes be kind.

I'm a FPV freestyle pilot flying the completely hand built carbon fiber frame racing drones but with the DJI HD FPV goggles system. Ive been flying full acro for years. I think you did an excellent job at conveying the difficulty of manual /acro mode. I think it is great what DJI has done. This will truly bring more people to the community. And its great that they are making it semi easy for the average person to be able to get that sense of freedom of flying. Stay with it. Before to long you'll be wanting more control and speed and youll be buying you a frame and flight controller and motors. The best 4s batteries in our community only cost roughly $18-$20. CNHL Mini-Star batteries. At those prices it's not hard to have 10 batteries with you when you go out to fly. Granted you'll only get 5 mins flight time. Good job on the video. I think you've relayed the true difficulty and differences between DJI style flying and controls vs true FPV acro freestyle flying.

Raceday quads has some prebuilt quads that will have the DJI HD FPV system already installed. But you'll eventually have to learn how to build cuz you WILL crash. It's inevitable. Over and over and over. But the beauty is parts don't cost near as much as DJI stuff. Neither do the drones. A good one with dji camera will set you back $400+ ish.

@@JamesDBuzzard No need for bashing either "side" of the community. When you have a M2P, a cinewhoop and a freestyle quad there is just no real need for this. The main things you miss out on if you are pure into FPV is stabilized gimbal and still shots. The hybrid doesn't do that as good as a regular camera drone.
When flying FPV we are used to crasch and being able to fix it ourselves. A lot to learn but gives the freedom to push it.

Even after playing flight sims in tournaments on the computer and being familiar with all things flying, going to an FPV quad felt super weird. One thing that helped my brain click with the controls was flying day after day in the simulator (DRL - Drone Racing League).
It took a bit but when my brain finally got use to the controls everything was good. Any new people to FPV struggling with the controls or flight dynamics, spend a ton of time in the sim. Fly different drones in the sim too. Once you swap over to the real thing you'll be surprised at how well you do. Just keep altitude at first bring it lower as you are more comfortable.

Have a Nanuk 915 for my Air 2. AWSOME cases. Was going to get one for the FPV but can not find any cases from Nanuk or any one else that you can use without removing the arm braces each time you want to use it. Removing the braces each time is a royal pain. Most case makers put the batteries between the arms so you loose the battery slots if you make cutouts for the braces. Made my own cutout that carries the FPV with braces installed and 6 flight batteries and 3 goggle batteries, extra props etc. So far flying in sport mode with no crashes yet but need a lot of time in Velocodrone before acro mode.

Great video, mate. I was going back and forth between the DJI model and a regular run-of-the-mill drone, and I ended up landing on a run-of-the-mill drone for the very points you bring up. I couldn’t stand the thought of destroying it before I even got to have fun with it. With my current drones, I don’t sweat as badly when something goes wrong since I can fix them myself. However my second flight with my iFlight chimera 7 was a disaster. Thankfully the damage was superficial. But that is easily my most expensive quad at $600 plus. You are right about changing the rates. My nano quads have different rates each depending on the kind of flying I want to do at that moment. Super important for learning to fly in super tight spaces, like a two bedroom apartment. Now I can just zip them around at high speed and usually don’t bump into anything. Anyways, thanks for the video!

Great video. Always wanted to purchase a drone but felt intimidated. Watched my buddy you spent a fortune crash his. Times have changed. I purchased one at Best buy in California with the insurance so I knew if I crashed it I could get another one. Oh my God it is such a blast to fly. I've been taking it slow and learning. Since I had no other drone experience and nothing too unlearn I have been picking up confidence each flight. My God what an amazing piece of equipment! It is so much fun and I think I found a new hobby! Yesterday I flew through an abandoned shopping center and got some of the best footage yet but I realized I forgot to hit the record button! Highly recommend this drone for even a newbie just by the insurance so you know if you crash it you can get another one. However if it flies away or goes in the ocean and you can't find it you're screwed.

My experience with the DJI FPV. First flight, absolutely terrified. Practiced on the DJI simulator, found out quickly it was terrible, used velocidrone for a while which helped me so much and gave me some confidence and got used to the muscle memory. Felt allot more comfortable after changing the rates on the drone and really enjoying it for cinematic purposes! The battery is a bit dodgy tho, but otherwise great for what I need. Just always practice, do some research and play with the rates before you fly in full manual!

You hit the nail on the head.. this is the first video I seen that relates to my experience which I think will be the experience of many people that are thinking about buying this drone. I am very comfortable flying all drones non FPV , with this being a FPV drone from DJI and having the extra safety features and different modes I figured I could use this drone even in normal or sport not even bothering with manual at all and get some nice footage and having the power for speed ect. I watched a ton of reviews before buying the drone and just another note is for my budget the DJI FPV was pretty much too much for me, but I did finally purchase the drone. For me personally I did not like the drone at all . I thought the FPV would be a really awesome experience that would make me want to keep it just in that regard.. that was not the case. For me it was okay it wasn't like I thought it would be. I am an Android user and just figured out that the DJI fly app says it's up to date when it was really a whole upgrade away. It was running I believe 1.2 and 1.4.1 is the newest that I have found which you have to manually download the APK for. Even after doing that it still had no option to activate the DJI FPV. Anyways I finally did get it to work but I didn't like the fact that it had nothing on the screen other than the feed from the goggles which was probably not how it is supposed to be. Ok so the experience.. This drone is heavy .. I don't know the spec off top but I just know when flying it even with that power I could def feel that weight. This drone does not fly ANYTHING like any other DJI drones even in normal mode. You explain this very well in the video and that's exactly how I felt. I only needed two flights to figure out this is not the drone for me. Even if I was gonna try to work my way into freestyle or just FPV I don't think I would use this drone for it, and as far as the other modes it's just to aggressive and can't really get any smooth shots. Now obviously I'm sure you can with more experience but from all the reviews I saw they pretty much said out the box the normal and sport mode is just like your normal DJI drones and then obviously in manual you can flip it ect. Not the case for me, I had the same experience as you did as stated in this video except I never got to liking the drone at all. That said I wish I had saw this video and I would of tried to change the rates on it because you said that made a huge difference for you and made it flyable, maybe that's what I needed to do but for the price I don't have money to crash n kill $1500 down the drain. Anyways I like your video it is the only video I have seen yet that describes how I felt when I bought it and tried it out and I have watched tons of reviews ect on this drone before purchasing. Thumbs up on the video.. check out any videos I may have up as well ! Thanks ✌️

I would recommend getting the dji bdi adapter. It would allow you to switch to analog video and use the dji goggles as your viewer. It easily screws in place of the front plate and powers on simply by plugging it in when you need it then you could buy a receiver (I would recommend the rapidfire but it's expensive. There are other options though) and it would greatly increase the range or your betafpv whoop or any analog drone video feed. Drop outs become less of a problem because the picture will usually fade into snow instead of dropping out completely. I use it on the v1 and they work great with practically no latency issues when I use my analog racing drones and whoops. You probably have other options in canada but here's the link to where I bought it. pyrodrone.com/products/bdi-digidapter-analog-module-adapter-for-dji-digital-fpv-goggles
Just remember to buy the right antenna. Since I only saw the betafpv I would recommend a linear one , will give you better reception, to match your whoop pyrodrone.com/collections/fpv-antennas/products/viper-antenna-5-8ghz-linear-receiving-patch and any rhcp antenna. You could probably fly it through your whole house with this setup.

I'm glad you find your drone...but maybe was better first learning well in acro with the Little beta 🤣 I'm in the learning process with the advanced kit too, I've doing a lot of crash but now I finally start to feeling comfortable in acro...I hope to get the DJI fpv in the future but...for the fpv Flying experience, not for the acro, It cost too much, the risk Is too high. For fun doing roll, flip etc...it's Better another BNFdrone maybe. I see the DJI fpv as a machine to fly and enjoy the fpv experience like a "fixed Wing" without getting mad about choosing parts, battery, charger, radio, configure etc...and with the video and signal quality of the V2, right out of the box. It cost, but...it's not very far from the cost of a really good auto build, so....the big difference is in the cost if you crash...

Great overview.....Ya I am too scared to try and fly FPV. It does look a lot more fun than a traditional drone, but I just can't afford to crash and it would be inevitable. I agree with some of the stuff you said, but I definitely don't agree with you saying to avoid the sim.
BEFORE YOU FLY A DRONE, ESPECIALLY AN FPV DRONE, FLY IN A SIMULATOR!
If you don't, you will have no idea how to fly it. I'm not saying you have to be an expert in the sin before you actually take it to a field, but at least know the basic controls and build some confidence and sense of direction.

The tree slowed it down so it didnt hit hard. Just bumping a tree will break it. You are far better off with a cinewhoop that can handle crashes well. Makes no sense to have acro mode on a fragile quad with few parts available. If you fly acro mode you should plan on learning to build because you will break things. I only like acro on light quads that dont get damage when they crash. I didnt buy the fpv quad because its fragile, expensive, few parts available, more dangerous than a cinewhoop and short run time. I dont think its good for anyone really.

This is the whole issue with this drone .... FPV Drones = High Crash Rate..... Most FPV drones are light, DIY and easyish to repair .... this drone is the opposite of all those things.
