Today, I discuss why minecraft youtubers are bad which is why minecraft is dying. I talk about minecraft nostalgia is unmatched but I also talk about how the dark side of minecraft kids content by viprah.
Similarily to jschlatt minecraft and his nicknamed I hate corporate design. I hate minecraft youtubers, and I hate minecraft videos today. I talk about old minecraft vs new minecraft youtubers as well as why minecraft videos are bad. I also manage to encompass minecraft youtubers back then vs now by the infamous div_y be like.

I say this as someone with ADHD- i am super sick of the MrBeastification of UA-cam and as you’ve mentioned it’s been nauseatingly prevalent in Minecraft videos. I have issues with my attention span, but I don’t like keys being jangled in front of my face. A friend managed to get me into Hermitcraft a while back and I’m really excited for the new season! It feels good to be able to enjoy Minecraft again after such a long while being away from it.

I think a lot of people have issues with their attention span because of short form content and people crave fast stimulation similar to what is in these videos. It is not good to crave this and have a bad attention span, I find it very ineffective to blame things I can't control for my problems and try to find any way to improve other than to give up at excuses.
Back in my day Minecraft videos opened with the funny cat man greeting everyone from his bedroom, eating some cake and then playing minigames with his friends for 20 minutes and we were all happy. The idea that the human attention span has decreased isn't true, but a lot of UA-camrs sure seem to think it has because goddamn

I'm genuinely glad somebody is taking their time to try and fix this, I feel like I've been searching for a new Minecraft idea for 5 years
It's the same situation with popular music vs inspired music. Popular music uses a formula to create uninspired but wide-reaching and familiar music, appealing to the largest audience possible. Other creators make unique music that is arguably better in many ways to popular music, but it doesn't draw in as many people because it isn't familiar to the average person
Though at the end of the day, just like how the good music from the 80's and 90's has survived till today, the best minecraft videos are the ones that will stick with us
Very interesting way you put it. I wholeheartedly agree on your point. I see smaller creators pull out banger videos that you wouldn’t normally see in the “popular” formula for making videos but are better.

The first one is pretty popular and has recently become a lot more known due to his server releasing, Speedsilver. I am in-particular interested if you think the purge/ battle royals are in your critic. As for the second one, I was wondering what you think about Shovel241. Personally I thought his editing was very nice and somewhat refreshing and that his main project on building his book’s world are very interesting. For me, they were very unique and I was wondering if you agree/ what exactly makes these so distinct.

good video! i think people are starting to innovate a bit more as time goes on but i understand that there's definitely a lot of videos nowadays that just seem like copies and pastes of one another.

I do believe there are still some really good Minecraft content creators, good examples are, like you mentioned the guys from HermitCraft and also, in my opinion the best Minecraft type of videos I have seen in a while are from sandiction I really recommend his videos, they are pretty relaxing and entertaining in my opinion.

There's always been a bit of a copying and youtubers trying to optimize the algorithm. Eventually, people get sick enough of it that they have to change, and people either quit or get motivated to try something different. I think most people just tend to look into the past with rose tinted glasses.

The thing is though, most of these copy-paste minecraft youtubers have lots of views on their content, why would they want to change? And some of the content is aimed directly for children, who don't get sick of minecraft. The people that do change their style of content or try something different also don't get as much views either, which was showcased in the video.

Zeemyth - Makes creepy content inside and outside of the SMP hes apart of (REDACTED SMP) The series outside of the Redacted is called "The Roothouse"
The redacted Smp - There are a whole lot of smaller creators tied to this SMP and I highly advise checking them all out (All of their stories tend to tie into each other)
Keeuhn - Has an ongoing series (this isn't horror related) Its hard to describe lol

I think the issue is too that Minecraft content has being made for nearly over a decade now. Although Minecraft still can have value and appeal to people, if your feeling like it just isn't "clicking" for you anymore...
Thats perfectly valid. Nobody can like the same things forever, and sometimes you just need to walk away and take a step back from something you love to remember why you loved it. Take a break, get a new hobby. Maybe get some stuff going on in your life in general.

Nice video. I wanna say a few things:
Firstly, respect for painting Dream and his content in a more positive light here. That wasn't really common, at least up until now. People's dislike for him tend to cloud their vision a lot and, for whatever reason, many people end up thinking that he was somehow the problem and that he never innovated. When objectively he's actually been one of, if not the biggest innovator in the history of MCYT (even if Manhunt were unoriginal, these people also think that that's the only content he's posted for some reason, even though you have gems like Block Shuffle and Death Swap, and more hidden ones like Unsolved Mysteries or Ultimate tag).
While the video got the point across, I would've talked about *personality* way more if I were in your shoes. Honestly, at least half the reason of why we think old content was better is because we're nostalgic. If you look at just content and video concepts by themselves, if you think about it, old MCYT was honestly even less creative. At 3:05 you mention some video types that you say are unique, however when you really think about it for a while, like 90% of the content back then WAS JUST that. Survival/modded survival lets plays, mod reviews, a series on a map (like Cops n Robbers), or sometimes modded (like most of the series PopularMMOS or SSundee did).
It's also worth noting that the copying simply didn't feel as blatant, and it can also feel that in today's world most ideas have already been done, unlike 2009-2014, and back then UA-cam also wasn't nearly as worldwide or money driven, most creators seemed very passionate.
The big thing is this: the old videos definitely had a lot of personality tied into them, which is rarer in videos nowadays, which explains why people feel new content sucks, as personality is one of, if not the most important aspect in a UA-cam video. If you look at something like Hermitcraft, which many people also think of as "older" and say it's one of the "few good pieces of MCYT" (it's in this comment section too lol), objectively the SMP itself isn't some crazy thought out idea, it's the people behind it, and whenever they do things like the Mycelium War, Big Moon event, or the SMP crossover, that make it special, have that "old feel", and therefore popular.
I wish you talked about Camman (especially seeing as he was in the thumbnail), as, although his content ranges from a variety of things, he's also a creator whose personality is very present in his content. It's been one of the key factors contributing to his insane success, and you can especially see it with how he interacts and jokes with the community and having channel memes like "make minecarts faster" or "this is the 90854th rarest block/item in minecraft video, I swear it's the last one guys!"
It's creators like these have a strong and recognizable personality. A mindset people tend to have for creators or celebrities is like, as Ray William Johnson said, "the guy who did that thing." The hermits are like "those guys that have that cool SMP with the amazing builds", camman is like "the pink guy who talks about Minecraft facts and is parkour pro and wants faster minecarts", Dream is like "the smiley lime green Manhunt/speedrunning guy", etc. Meanwhile, with this in mind, even if you manage to enjoy 1 video from 1 of these copycats, you're gonna look at them and go "wtf do I remember you for" lol.
Good news is, I think we'll see a "good content" period again soon, maybe within 1 or 2 years. For as long as the game exists and is popular, I think, Minecraft will just keep going in a cycle, and that this is just a bad phase that it's going through; like we've seen before, from 2017 to early 2019 where the game felt like it was in its "dark age" and that no content was really that good anymore. But this time it's different, as back then there was a sort of hate train towards Minecraft and the game was way less popular and developed. But this time, with so many fans of the game, so much material to use (and that's just the vanilla base game), and this time, so many people LOOKING for and talking about wanting fresh content, well, I don't really see what could stop the next and 3rd wave of creators, as well as the existing ones, from creating yet another great and unique period of Minecraft content that we all enjoy.
On the subject, I don't know if you've seen this, but Dream has really been talking about getting back into Minecraft after a lot of inactivity, and he said there's been this project he's been working on for a while that he thinks could be even greater than Manhunt. Definitely something to look forward to! Edit: He's now posted a very interesting short on his channel, go check it out if you haven't. He's also stated on his private account on Twitter that "Minecraft has never been more fun" and that there should be a "flow of stuff in the coming weeks."

Honestly, I agree. You've put to words the thoughts I've had for the longest time - I've noticed just how glaring the algorithm clickbait nonsense of Minecraft videos have become. While there were a few videos I've seen that I'm fond of, a lot of the others tend to just be "WACKY MINECRAFT TIPS OOOO" and shit like that just kinda grinds my gears a lil. I used to watch a lot of Stampy as a kid (and even as an adult), and I really do miss the olden day content.
Though i will argue that a lot of old day content was shit too: not only were there a fuckton of clickbaiting legacy console MC youtubers, but the content just became hella stale over time, with an over-reliance on mods. It's something that makes a lot of things like SMPs and Hermitcraft really fresh. Then there's youtubers like Iskall who I absolutely adore his commentary due to the overall positive fuzzy vibes it gives.
I hope to start Hermitcraft again very soon - I've watched bits of it here and there but always find it hard to keep up with due to the vast volume of awesome people who stream it
I'm suffering the same issue that you talked about. I make letsplay videos on an SMP that nobody else makes content about, yet I only get a handful of views. Heck, there's even a storyline in it now - yet I only get about a handful of views. It sucks to see creators with no imagination at all get so much popularity for something they didn't even come up with.

While creators can make the video unique, it’s now up to how they can make the thumbnail and title clickbait because of how high video’s standard nowadays and this is one of factors for youtube to promote a viral video. It’d be hard to come up new format for good thumbnails and title.
I had a really good idea for a server which was going to be an arg but the problem is every time I look for people everybody is the same. Just the good at pvp 100 days type videos. Thanks for calling this out
The funny thing is that their skins always have to be one specific color, and also needs the simplest of faces
Let me explain it to you.
Big creators have no incentive to innovate. The risk is very rarely worth the result of trying a new idea. So, they sit around waiting for a smaller creator to have a smash hit, then all the big creators pounce on it, over produce it, and milk it to death. Rinse and repeat.
There are still a lot of great Minecraft UA-camrs out there. The Life series is probably the best Minecraft has ever been on UA-cam, and I'll watch Hermitcraft until it dies. Though, outside of that, I see it much like you do, a lot of the same trend chasing as every other genre on here.
What I hate the most about Minecraft now is that all content and gameplay is too chaotic and busy. I miss the peaceful and simple aspect of Minecraft in 2013.Another thing that bothers me is that every single Minecraft video is a challenge now. I miss how peaceful Minecraft was when you would just chill and build like in Hermitcraft

Highly underrated, great video. The only thing I would say is that it's tough for every single person that wants to become a Minecraft UA-camr, it's hard to come up with a unique idea tbf. However, straight up copying is never good. Personally, I've been in some MC series that copy others, but our whole gimmick is that we do. I used to be in the Offbrand life series, and now Bootleg, which yes we copy the main life series with normally our own little twists and our different personalities. At least we credit the originals. Trust me, if I had a great revolutionary idea for a series/video, I'd use it, it can be difficult though. But yes, minecraft content is very repetitive and even inappropriate, amazing video. Deserves more views honestly. Make minecraft great again
Yeah but playing the same game is not even close to copying videos. If you want to have fun with a popular game, nothing wrong with that. Just make the content original, if you aren't trying to copy the format of their actual videos than it's fine. I've seen plenty of great Last Life or Manhunt videos with original content
You're such an underrated creator. Your content is incredible. I've heard the discussion of how bad UA-cam is with recommending videos. Some videos do awful because UA-cam recommends them to the wrong people which lowers the reach you should've gained. I honestly wish it could get better but I know that's foolish. We'll just have to ride it out until the next large change in UA-cam. All your subs are 100% earned. Hope to see you grow quickly like you deserve!
I think one of the reasons why older minecraft videos were way better is because they seemed a lot more genuine. Like it seemed like the people making the videos weren't forced to make it
And then there's the subtitles, someone needs to desperately tell these creators to stop using the damn Tommyinnit font as their subtitles, or better yet use UA-cam's subtitles instead; Grian does that and its far better than literally every single youtuber in history

Right, because calling Minecraft UA-camrs out for unoriginality has never been done before.
I'm glad this is something that is being talked about more. I hate to see it when a youtuber posts a really cool, good quality, and laid back Minecraft video they worked hours on, only to get ZERO views. Meanwhile some dude copies an idea, records it with a loud annoying voice the whole video, and edits the video with intense overstimulating edits ( like big annoying subtitles, super fast flashing images, or a million sound effects per second) that are hard to watch, and only exist to get more retention and are for the drooling zero attention span ipad kids. Just for the garbage copied video to get like one million views and gets put on the trending tab. So my advice for any future Minecraft content creators is to be original, because as corny as it sounds Minecraft is a game about creativity, and if originally runs out, creativity dies, and if creativity is gone so will Minecraft as a whole.
I have a channel and my entire message is to just have fun and be creative like the old days but with a hint of that modernization...not just raw footage...but not super fast paced and edited to oblivion...I want to make minecraft content and any other great game content unique and fun again...take risks...experiment with different games...and I don't do it for the money...I genuinely want to see things change for the better...

and all Minecraft videos are edited the same way too, with colorful comic sans subtitles and quick zooms with floating graphics every minute also I think all of the youtubers have the same voice inflection. Great video bro I subbed!
The old ones at the time were great, but after years they either fell off, or touched somebody they weren't supposed to.
Tbf, nothing has changed in terms of copying. Back then in “the golden age” everyone played the same maps, the same mod showcases, and the same mini games (hunger games, spleef, etc). The only difference is that we grew up with those and at the time these seemed new. You say how every UA-camr has the same intro and base yet that’s been the case since the dawn of UA-camrs. Sure new trends and innovations are brought in but everyone copies is because it becomes popular. The only reason why newer videos seem more boring is because of the over saturation of Minecraft content which makes us long for the days prior to our Minecraft fatigue.

This is a well made video, and you kept it on point and you didn't flinch when showing your face. Great job, I hope to see you one day succeed, also earned a subcriber. Going on a rant here and making long paragraphs, the reason why UA-cam would recommend those videos because they assume you love the video, whether because of you kept your attention span till the end. And They don't wanna try recommend you other videos, afraid you would click off out of UA-cam. So the recommendation will be the same. Pretty much this isn't only happening to "Minecraft" it is indeed everywhere. To Real life challenges, and more things. There's a lot of better content that I reckon, which is Good smps (QSMP as an example, Hermitcraft / TrafficSMP [basically people who are friends with the hermits], Pirate SMP), Minecraft video essays, commentary, animations, Roleplays, and alot more others that I might forgotten about. It is truly true that CREATIVITY is dead nowadays.

ive collabed on a mc video once about just "why ppl quit hypixel skyblock" which i felt like was actually pretty funny and the creator spent so much time editing it. it didn't get the 10k+ views it probably deserved but got like 3k views or so. I just checked his channel and he either unlisted, privated or deleted the video since hes trying to do content that got him more views.

The hell is going on? I stopped watching or playing Minecraft in years. I was gutted learning I missed Stampy replay Terraria, learned that he finished lovely world and now I'm getting constant recommendations that the game is dying or that it sucks on UA-cam nowadays.

dallasmed65 is one of the only minecraft channels i watch, his channel is such a break from the new over the top minecraft content nowadays. Highly recommend him to anyone that likes more laided back and chill minecraft vids

I remember back when I didn't know how to make a nether portal so I made a obsidian labyrinth with enderman and put down purple wool. I remember the first xbox 360 tutorial world and finding hidden discs, occupying the biggest house in the village, the old wheat and gravel textures, the sounds of villagers spamming doors, the old knockback, being able to hit sheep and them drop wool, raw chicken poisining you, thinking mineshafts were the works of herobrine, loading up a superflat world with layers below ground of emeralds with the custom superflat layer tool on xbox, the og splitscreen pvp minigame, the first time seeing the elytra courses, the first time entering a cave, I remember the first time I found diamonds in a work i named Pokemon, I remember trying to replicate stampy's builds and wondering why I can't move, the very first time I found a desert pyramid, ah yes the og desert pyramid with orange wool, I remember not knowing about the chest room and trying to inhabit the pyramid, I remember the good old days when you could come home from school and sit down and play minecraft with you friends or siblings, I remember playing splitscreen hide-and-seek and telling them no peeking when they obviously were, I remember making masterpieces of originality and genuity in creative pretending that others would get to see it and we'd be famous (never happened) I remember a superflat world me and my sister back in 2014 would play called Sanctuary. It was a tall wooden house we'd work so hard on, I remember the day I accidentally burnt it all down by adding a fireplace... devistation, I remember figuring out how to plant carrots and potatoes on my own by simply placing them on farmland, I remember the first and only fish texture, the red beds, mining the insides of mountains to make a giant mansion like we saw on good old youtube, the good old days of minecraft are gone now that we have grown up, matured, and experienced the initial bliss of our first times. We may think adding new fancy stuff, modding, exlpoiting, etc. may help our fun experience but the thing is, is just that we aren't kids anymore.

Underrated video hermitcraft and all the other old UA-camrs you mentioned (well I do guess nostalgia does carry over and sometimes you may cringe at watching their older videos but the quality is still great for its time) and the new MC ytubers i believe are good include sandiction,ish and mogswamp
For sure, Ish is another beast at making Minecraft videos. Sandiction and mogswamp are also unique and they are certainly great.
Any life series, Hermitcraft, yogscast, or any old UA-camr who comes back for a 1 off video, (captain sparkle’s apparently is going to stop making videos 😭😭)
Creativity has nearly died in the majority of the Minecraft community. Heck the trilogy that I'm working on is more creative than what these people are doing.

It's all to become big with the quickest cheapest way -clickbait- and sailing along with the trends in Minecraft. From channels that spread lies by creating or spreading speculation as genuine content (itz jhief for example) to the ones that fake every bit of it.
Also getting tired of youtubers who fake longterm worlds or just re-open a save file from 2014 and act like they have played 9 years with dedication, which annoys me personally as someone who -really- plays in a SPP with dedication for 8+ years (but I'm no youtuber) :P Even saw one who claimed to have survival world that is older than Minecraft itself... must be a time traveler or something...
And to finish my rant, something that is also annoying are youtubers who have reached status and fame but sort of rest on that plateau and can get away with low quality (copied) content because of their god status. Their followers would even call a dirt hut awesome. Something I sadly see with 1 or 2 hermits as well.
So appreciate the good ones because the way up becomes harder thanks to the amount of lazy clickbait channels. But if you "waste" some time by digging around in the clickbait mess you still stumble on good ones, also ones that just started but are really serious and motivated.

Thank god someone addressed this, I genuinely cant stand Minecraft content these days filled with most annoying voice, 1000 flashing images and Overused Nintendo Music (Overusing Music gets annoying, Nintendo Music in itself is great tho), Thats why I watch SalC1 for his unique and simplistic approach to editing his content and FitMC who does not overdramatize his videos. I completely agree with you. I am a minecraft youtuber and I try to make unique things but sometimes I do end up copying someone else. The reason I copy someone else is because I think that what they are doing looks fun and I want to try it myself and it is something that I have never done before. But for the most part I try not to copy other people.

I get that but at the same time, the guy he called the “sad attempt at someone else’s success” (tj) is just wrong. Tj makes high quality videos, and if he actually watched the videos he’d realise every single civ event is different with completely different stories, told differently from different peoples perspectives (because it’s literally 100 players chucked in a map with plugins and they do the rest).
Not to mention that they’re all pretty much partnered, tj is partnered with sword4000 who is partnered with speed silver, so obviously they’re gonna make reasonably similar videos, often they all make videos from the same event
They don't suck, we grew up, it's not our time to enjoy them, it's the next generation's time .

I think the best current Minecraft UA-camr is Jake Eyes, he’s 50 ways to die video’s are highly entertaining and very good (he also had other content before he was known as the 50 ways to die series)
As a minecraft youtuber, I don't make intros like that and if i want to do a challenge video i want to do something original (or try to). If I ever make money, I would still make the videos i do today but not like the other ones. Not to mention im stuck in like 2010 so idk how the fu@# people make intros like that

I've been with Minecraft since it was playable on the browser, and there has been only ONE Minecraft Civilization video that blew me away recently, and that is ish's 1000 person civilization. The pinnacle of the genre, and probably the one that ushered many copycats who could only dream of reaching its height. Is the thumbnail similar to other MC Civ videos? Yes. But its execution is so top notch I was on the edge of my seat for the video's hour-long runtime. Narratively gripping, wonderfully paced, and well-edited, it brought back a feeling I had lost since the earlier days of MCYT, especially for modded roleplay videos.

Finally someone is talking about this. Whenever I search up "Minecraft" on youtube now all I see is the same junk copied over and over. The only minecraft videos I watch now are from youtubers I watched when I was little
