  • Minecraft content is becoming more repetitive every single day. Are we reaching a tipping point with modern minecraft content? Will unoriginal minecraft content go away? Let's talk about the money machine, the minecraft creative restrictions, and the messy state of modern minecraft content. So why, why do minecraft youtubers keep making the SAME content?

    I've been extremely burnt out this year when it comes to making content. I always wanted to be a UA-camr having fun like the Yogscast or Stampy but to be a proper UA-camr now, you need to be a CEO who hires loads of people to automate production and doesn't actually make the content themselves. I don't want to make clickbait kids videos that feel like they're made by a content farm, but the young audience don't care.
    Of course whenever something new does well there will be many copycats who just want money, however I hope that the people who are genuinely passionate about making good honest content will rise to the top as they will be able to innovate and stay ahead of their clones.

      Also MrBeast is easily to blame for the corporatization (not sure how to describe it but you get what I mean) of UA-cam content. Sure he's a good guy doing charity stuff, but he's definitely a major cause in the current shift of UA-cam content.

He sticks to the boring 100 days in hardcore formula, except he truns them all into two hour documentaries where each and every important event, such as him dying, saying "nope you never saw that yup" and then loading into a backup of the world, aswell as an instance where he disintegrated 8 diamonds cause of the fact the footage was corrupted. I feel like the UA-cam algorithm could definitely use a reprogramming in order to avoid these types of problems, not just for Minecraft content, but for content all across the platform. Instead of prioritizing only a few good trends until they aren't in style anymore, they should basically do the opposite. Send out videos that are unique to more people than videos that follow similar styles. Only linger on certain type of video trends for short time before phasing them out, even if they would be super successful anyways. This way people are forced to keep reimagining what they create, putting their heart and soul into what they make because it will be rewarded to them 10-fold. Maybe the algorithm could also push out videos that were popular a long time ago on a person's channel so good ideas aren't forgotten.

    • @hexakon
      @hexakon 6 місяців тому +20

      @@hexakon The way I see it it's never too late for UA-cam to change things. According to this video creators are becoming burnt out from this current model.
      The algorithm as it is is definitely awarding UA-cam a lot of money, but people getting tired of making/watching the videos made with it mind will only grow more and more.
      Eventually viewers will stop watching the videos that are made, and/or creators will stop producing them because they aren't interested in them anymore, and no amount of algorithm programming would fix that.
      At some point there HAS to be a change because the current way the algorithm is will not prove useful in the long run. Sure, my idea may not earn as much revenue as it, but it would have a long shelf life.

    • @exlonic
      @exlonic 6 місяців тому +6

      As a small (and I mean Small) creator myself, I would love it if they changed the algorithm a little. Everything is just so repetitive, clickbait rules supreme, every idea seems to have already been done, and the only real way to grow a following is by copying what works-and that doesn’t just apply to gaming content. It’s insane; if UA-cam wants to change it, now would be the time too. And that’s not even talking about how popularity plays into everything. But let’s be real UA-cam nowadays is very out of touch with it’s issues.
      Look I could go on and on about this, but then this comment would take like an hour to read.
      So TLDR:
      The algorithm pushes what’s popular, so the only way to get Any money is through copying. If you don’t use clickbait/trending topics you’ll never have any success, and it’s as bad as it seems.

    I don't make Minecraft content anymore and this is a huge part of what pushed me away. I tried my best to make fresh content with the cinematic angles inspired from people like lowresbones, but at the end of the day people just don't watch that content as much.
    There was some viewership, maybe 30-40k on average for a survival video I would do, and while they were fun to make that is straight up impossible to live on. I saw the writing on the wall and knew I had to jump ship eventually, if for no other reason then my personal sanity of wanting to build a brand independent of the success of a game.
    That being said, I'm glad you mentioned some of the OG creators like Ethos and people still pushing the envelope outside of the traditional hyper edited MC styles we all love to hate. And I hope for the sake of the game, because I do still love Minecraft, that there is a resurgence of fresh content and that there can be a new generation of creators that are excited to make content, while also making lots of money. The only two points of difference are influx of people and passing of time, I think. In the 'olden days', there were much less UA-camrs - both good and not-so-much, than now. And with the passage of time, most of the not-so-much ones are forgotten. While such UA-camrs that exist now aren't quite yet.
      In my opinion, in the end there's no good or bad Minecraft content, really. What video to watch while procrastinating is up to you and whatever your choice would be - it doesn't make your decision better or worse. It's just some game videos and you're just watching them to pass time. If you're having fun - that's enough. You can't say someone who made a different decision "aren't having fun", or "aren't having the right kind of fun".

      What changed was that now people know how to maximize viewer retention, Those old videos felt more like everyone was specialized on one specific thing: BajanCanadian did mostly PVP, PopularMMOs did semi scripted moded survivals, SkyDoesMinecraft did mini games, Others mostly did Mod reviews, Multiplayer Crazycraft, Redstone Builds and reviews, or Adventure Maps
      Sure there were trends everyone did like Lucky Blocks, But that came later

    • @makipom
      @makipom 6 місяців тому +11

      @@jesusramirezromo2037 Yeah, perhaps. People now know more about UA-cam and some use that knowledge to "game" the system. But that's not really a change with the Minecraft content, but with UA-cam creators as a whole.
      There were and are still creators that pursue the everchanging trend, and there were and are still people who expand their own niche. LukeTheNotable, who creatred 100 Days, doesn't really do Civilizations and stuff, as you can see. That applies to others also. Mostly those, who became famous because of their perfection of one of the formats. And that is the same for people who became famous for their Let's Plays, Redstone videos, and such in the past. Of course, there are some people who just chase the views. There were such people 10 years ago. Would be 10 years later also. But most of the people who do it now, who just jump between genres and such, are the older channels who try to be related again, or newer channels who don't know what're they doing.
      In the end, the only thing that really changed are the genres themselves. Newer trends that came to replace or banish the old ones. Depending on what you thought about older ones - that might be a bad thing for you. But it's not that video quality has dropped (if anything - it's the opposite), and it's not like those newer ones are inherently and objectively intellectually inferior to the prior ones (I mean, we're talking about gaming videos, there's not much to gain from them except for entertainment anyway).
      When speaking about formats, the main point after all is whether you consider the old ones or the new ones to be more fun, more entertaining for yourself. And there are no rights and wrongs in it.

    It's all supply and demand. People's decreased attention span leads to a lot of views on fast paced editing, while social media algorithms promote this type of content. Every time I decide to click on one of those videos, I feel like I'm watching a tv show for a 5 year olds. I prefer seeing actual personality in someone's videos, to keep watching more for the person and less for his content (although I obviously still prefer themes I like watching). And that tends to be the case for a lot of smaller content creators, cuz they don't do this as their job. Myself included, I keep making what I want and not what gets me high views. And I really appreciate that in others, don't think this issue will come to an end soon though.

    When I started making content in 2021, my goal was to make content that wasn't like the current state of UA-cam. No big arrows and price tags in thumbnails, no constantly screaming at the camera for retention rate. What I quickly realised was that I was sort of restricting my channel's growth. I don't do trends, clickbait metas or anything resembling trying to catch people's attention. I think the mindset stems from my daytime hobby as a photographer. Either you're gonna like my art or you're not. I take photos that I like the look of, even if it might not appeal to others. In that sense, my videos are a reflection of me. They aren't structured or framed to appeal to as many people as possible, and I feel that''s the charm in content creation.
    So many people trying to all cash in on the same format to the point where the medium becomes oversaturated and interest dwindles. I reckon Minecraft could start to decline again soon, before perhaps having another revival after. The frequent argument of "nothing gets added to Minecraft anymore"/"Minecraft is boring" can be largely explained by the community oversaturating itself with content, to the point where nothing sparks joy anymore. It's something I've noticed in playing Minecraft for a year solid in my spare time. You look at the game and go "what now?" but don't actually have an answer.

It's really annoying because it makes these torture-like videos even longer . Plus UA-cam already has a toggleable subtitles button that can be turned on and off thats most of the time pretty accurate . I tried doing a playthrough with people but they all kept trying to do this same stuff, speedrun and build megafarms and try and do all this stuff that all the big youtubers are doing. Nothing inherently wrong with that but the game just cannot be played like that regularly for fun.
    These copy and paste videos take a long time to do, and are often just fake anyway. Doing these kinds of insane things look cool at the end, but actually doing them just is not fun at all. Anything we did try and do was cut off midway since it was taking too long and wasnt fun, then everyone wanted to move onto the next big cool epic thing all these youtubers were doing, and again we cut early since it wasnt fun.
    Its sad people just cant really play the game how they truly want to anymore, and assume they need all this.

One of the biggest draws of Minecraft as a game to begin with is the insane level of creative freedom you really have inside of the block world. It feels like almost all the modern generic UA-camrs do the same format over and over again. I feel like the reason the first few years of Minecraft on UA-cam was so Fun nd Enjoyable at the time and looked back on so fondly today was because almost every tuber did their own thing, had their own style of editing and video. Most actually had their own REAL personality along with all of that, it was just Authentic Genuine gamers who all loved a game and made it even better for the community by expressing that love for Minecraft.

    As a hobbyist, I have the freedom to make whatever content I feel like making, talk about whatever I want to talk about, and perhaps form a small, but tight community that way. Additionally, while it may not pay the bills, a hobby has no right to stress me out and should, if anything, help me escape the daily grind. Turning it into a job, especially an unstable one if basically infinite hours, flies in the face of that idea.

    Good video but i think that you also forgot to mention the fact that with minecraft it's hard to original content since the game is 12 years old so most creators have to try and make something new from an existing content thats why really like the hermicraft gang (like you said), because they are all diferent and you are watching them interact with eachother, they also try to be diferent every season that also helps, but regardless great video (sorry for my english it's not my language).

    It's a result of monetisation + popularity. But it's also a non-issue.
    Repetitive and easy-to-digest content get views which get money, so full-time youtubers go for such content. Minecraft is more popular than ever, so it's no different. ANYTHING that is mainstream enough will end up like this.
    That said, I don't understand why anyone would complain. *On the internet you choose the media you consume*. If you don't like the average youtuber, just ignore the slurry of mainstream content and look for more "soulful" creators. The algorithm might not recommend them to you but your friend might. Actually the algorithm can recommend you such content but you have to start watching such creators first while saying "not interested" to clickbait.
    No one is forcing you to watch those impossible build/100 days/whatever videos.

    I subscribed because you made a video series going through every Minecraft update which hasn't finished yet. Not many are doing something like that, with two I can think of right now being bugmancx and KalCM. So if I were to guess, the next big trend will be a "Minecraft through the updates" series from creators who see their numbers start to tank and are looking for an alternative. The similarities would disappear as each creator takes the changes in different ways and styles. Then again, what do I know? I'm just a trollfacing Wario.

      Grian actually did an Evolution series around 5 years ago, and I never got around to watching it while it was coming out, but eventually I did around the start of this year and it was really entertaining, especially since it was right before he joined Hermitcraft, so the way he makes videos today began through that series. Give it a watch maybe and see if you like it.
      Also I think a "Minecraft through the updates" trend is a very possible soon enough, older versions have been trending recently. I hope it does trend, I'm so sick of seeing such fast paced epileptic attack enducing videos and it'd be great to watch more slower paced videos that go back to the basics

    I feel bad for LukeTheNotable, the guy who originally made the HC 100 days video. He really accidentally unleashed Pandoras Box upon Minecraft on youtube. His og series is great, and you can tell with his commentary that hes ENJOYING it. So many others sound borderline corporate on how they talk, fake enthusiasm and all.
    Edit: Made that comment before watching the video, glad you brought him up

    As a person who wants to try to break into the content creating field albeit at a much slower pace (cuz uni), this really makes me a bit demotivated to start a hardcore world series cause I don't want to be in that trap where I have to keep making the same series and be unable to branch out to other parts of minecraft. I feel bad for those content creators who are stuck in that endless loop of making the same content until they get burnt out or fall into irrelevancy. Plus, it also sucks that unless I have a team to automate my video making and consistently upload videos I'll have to do all the dirty work of learning how to edit and make thumbnails just to keep up with the higher ups who are already well established and monetized.

    This is a universal video regarding other platforms/creators too. I make music full time and have to promote my songs every day on TikTok, and I have to either create or follow trends of how music is being marketed to gain streams and perform well. It’s brutal when I just want to focus on making the music, but to make it a full time job, I have to be a full time content creator too & most of it comes from whatever is working well instead of genuinely creative ideas
