    I bought a brand new X758 too for my lawn business this year. Why did I buy new? 1. There aren't very many used ones for sale in my region. Used ones are too hard to come by. 2. I have heard the new ones aren't that much more money, 3. I was able to order it set up exactly how I like with the options I want, and 4. I know exactly how it's been maintained and taken care of. Used machines you don't know how they've been maintained and taken care of.
    I haven't cut any lawns with it yet since I purchased it in January and it's February now but I think I'm going to be happy with it. Just from driving it around it feels real solid and comfortable riding. I can tell it has the weight to keep it planted on the ground.

    Though I am a Cub Cadet owner and fan, I have always wanted a X748. I love the way they look and wish they never changed it. That design was my childhood seeing 2, either X748s or X595s mowing at my school when I was in grade school. I got into a lot of trouble for not doing my work while they were out working😂.

    Great explanation of the costing on both units, and for the comparison between the X758 and the 1 series. It's an interesting topic of debate. It's neat to see how much the dealer prices vary between locations...it all depends on demand!

      I thought about mentioning insurance, but it really depends on how you finance it and how your policies work. If you finance through a JD multi-use account you don't need a dedicated insurance policy. If it is an installment loan, it is required to be on an insurance policy,]. The type of policy will depend on your relationship with Deere.

    I wouldn't care if buying a diesel made it worth less when it was time to sell. Diesel engines are objectively better; they're built stronger, they burn less fuel, and the fuel is often a bit cheaper. Diesel is also safer if that's a concern since it's less flammable.

    If you could only have either the used x748 with the 45 loader or the new x758 without the loader, which one would you keep? I am trying to decide between getting a new x758 and eventually fabricating a subframe for the 45 loader (possibly with the frame cutouts) or just get an older x748 hope that it doesn't have any big problems.

    The X758 might be more comparable to the 1023e since they share the same engine.

    • @FloridaDeere
      @FloridaDeere 3 роки тому +4

      True, but the 1023E is the "basic" model, where the X758 is premium. Meaning the X will have cruise control, tilt wheel, very nice seat and maybe another feature or two. Those are all items you can find on a 1025R, but are missing on the 1023E. I still went for the 1023E because of price and capability, it's still pretty much the same tractor as we 1025R. I think Deere in my area really pushes the 1 series versus the X7. I have never seen a new X7 at my dealership and there are always 1023E's and 1025R's.

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  3 роки тому +3

      Since I was going for the broadest discussion I opted to avoid discussing the 1023E. In terms of units sold the 1023E is a minority of sales and when you research on forums and Facebook the average discussion is "X758 or 1025R". The 1023E certainly has its place but I think for the context of this discussion the 1025R was the appropriate direction to go. BUT, maybe I am wrong?

    • @FloridaDeere
      @FloridaDeere 3 роки тому

      @@mmrbeef I think to keep it simple, that was the comparable route because like I had responded to one comment, the 1023 doesn't have some of the "comfort" features the X7 has. Also my purchase was one of luck and timing, dumb timing because I didn't know, but now they, the 1023E's are routinely now $15,000 or more with loader (but without deck), which is how they are almost always sold and packaged around here. And I am surprised at a $2500 premium, that so many jump on the 1025R verse the 1023E. They are basically the same tractor. The one notable difference minus creature comforts is the engine, 1.3 L vs 1.0L, but at that size tractor, I'm not sure that's a big deal.

    I think the 1023E and the x758 are the same price basically in my leg work of getting quotes. I got a quote of a 1023E with 120R loader for $13,000 plus tax. I got 2 quotes from 2 competing JD dealerships on a 1025r with 120R loader and one out the door price was $16,400 and the other was $16,456.11

    • @FloridaDeere
      @FloridaDeere 3 роки тому +1

      When I bought my 1023E in Sept 2019, it was a 2018 and I got the tractor, loader and 54" deck for $13,300, which made going with a X758 crazy, no loader and it was still more money. I really like garden tractors, but JD made that decision for me because of price. The X758 at that time was in the $14,000 range and had no rear pto, 3 point of loader. To be fair, my 1023E was a year hold over, but either way, it was a deal I couldn't pass up. And like Sam said, they have the same engine.

    • @derek7837
      @derek7837 3 роки тому +1

      @@FloridaDeere I agree, I like the JD garden tractors but the price of them compared to a 1 series plus you get a loader, 3 point hitch and to me the possibilities are endless with a 1 series vs a x7.

In terms of units sold the 1023E is a minority of sales and when you research on forums and Facebook the average discussion is "X758 or 1025R". I think your comparison of the 1023E and the X748 price wise is a good one and maybe I should have approached it that way? The 1023E certainly has its place but I think for the context of this discussion the 1025R was the appropriate direction to go. BUT, maybe I am wrong?

    • @FloridaDeere
      @FloridaDeere 3 роки тому +2

      @@mmrbeef I think your comparison was very fair and was surprised the two were even that close and what I also thought was fair was you adding the rear pto and 3 point to the X758 to make it an apples to apples comparison since the 1025 will come standard with those. That crunched up the price difference quite a bit, but like you mentioned, I think each has it's niche. I think for us down South with no snow blowing, the AWD won't be as needed down here and if you have a lot of grass to mow, you get a dare I say it, a zero turn. I like the jack of all trades Super GT's and SCUT's but to each his own. I really would have preferred to stay inside the GT world, but the price difference at that time was too compelling for a cheapskate like me, LOL!

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  3 роки тому +3

      The $13,950 is the price for the tractor and deck. It excludes taxes. Adding taxes, delivery (if charged) and other fees depending on the dealer, state, and municipality will cause variation in the price and it not a fair representation of the actual price of the machine.

    This is why you pay cash for it. Especially if you find a private seller, chances are, they'll have a hard time resisting greenies under their nose and will be willing to come down on their price at least a little bit. I'd gladly take a $4k discount for a used machine with ~200 hours on it over a new one any day!

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  3 роки тому

      It's all about your life situation and individual decisions. Private sellers are more prone to take a discount IF you have the cash. It's always hard for me to justify spending cash on items that will loose value. $10,000 a year ago invested would be worth $11,000-12,000 today. Meanwhile $10,000 used to purchase a machine a year ago would be worth $9,000 today. Each year that gap gets wider and wider, until you sell the machine. Say you sell the machine in 5 years when it is worth an estimated $6,000, during the same 5 years you achieved 8% ROI which would give you $14,600. That is a net difference of ~$8,500. The math gets much more muddy from that point going forward to calculate the actual cost of the machine in question and the opportunity cost of the cash expense up front. This is why options exist! We can do both and everyone can make their own decision.

    • @Kcducttaper1
      @Kcducttaper1 3 роки тому +1

      @@mmrbeef That's known as the "borrow your way to prosperity" method. The biggest problems with that are that you are a slave to payments weather you have an income or not; it excludes risk; it assumes you're actually investing the difference (which hardly anyone does) - and getting a solid rate of return on it; and it doesn't negate the fact that the tractor loses the same amount of value regardless of how you paid for it. Since tractor depreciation is identical either way, it basically boils down taking out a loan to invest the money. This is known as "invest-a-loan". The only thing your tractor provides in this situation is collateral if you fail to make payments.
      Personally, I think the market will more or less stagnate for a while once the rona excitement passes. Over the last 365 days, you should have gotten WAY more than 8% as the Nasdaq did nearly 50%!!! That's a spike if I ever saw one and we all know what happens after a spike....

Couple more words to type, but certainly comes across with less anger. Just a thought.
