Sonny, I found you originally on TikTok, and you inspired me to start cooking things I’ve never tried before. Today I made this pico, and the exercise was to really work on my knife skills. Thanks for helping to teach me and so many folks. The other inspiration is Basics with Babish. It would be cool if you two collaborated!

I can’t believe it. I went to the store today to pick up a few things for dinner and actually bought a container of pico de gallo. I thought to myself: I wish I had a Sonny recipe for this. Then I come home and find this recipe in my UA-cam recommendation feed. You are the best, Sonny!

I went through a dozen recipe videos for Pico (authentic and standard) and choose Sonny's. I don't think he's bullshitting about his experiences: The way he cuts is professional, the tip about salting the tomatos, and the scar on his knuckle tells me that dude can cook. Subbed

This one was packed with information for me. I think it's funny how close this is to a classic italian bruschetta. Although, from what I know, the very basic bruschetta is only the the toasted bread, rubbed with garlic, sprinkled with olive oil and salt. Any topping is the "luxury" version ;-)

Don't bother removing the seeds, pulp or veins from the tomato, it's a waste of time. Mexicans always use the complete tomato and it is fine. The tomato juice and pulp help keep the salsa moist and adds flavor.
The only reason I could see why he removes the seeds and pulp is to end up with a drier salsa, maybe that is why he feels the need to add oil.
