Early in 1940 (the date is lost to us, and isn't that important) Kayjay took Skipper to one side and quietly pointed out that using the phrase "the last thing I do" (02:05) was probably not the subtlest thing to say, especially when in hearing of uboat men, whose superstitious nature while not well-known was - like all sailors - very real. Then, one day in early '44 he exclaimed "I going to get a new map for the navigator's table if it's the last thing I do!", only to realise what he had said when he noticed the horrified looks from those around him. He sighed and thought little more of it until lo!: upon return from vacation he found a brand new map had been obtained and secured to the nav table by some anonymous officer. Now Skipper is well known for being an extremely likeable soul for the most part free of guile, but it was then that a rare seed of cunning germinated... Out to sea on the next patrol, as an experiment he muttered, not very quietly "I must make up my bunk if it's the last thing I do!" (Skipper's alcove always had the curtain drawn, not for secrecy because he was a messy fellow and the dishevelled bunk was not a good example to the lower ranks). Sure enough, about an hour later, the bunk was made up with such military precision that if you flicked the sheet it vibrated like the skin of a drum. Emboldened, a few days later came "I must cook for the crew if it is the last thing I do!" (he never had to don an apron again). Then, a week later, "I must clean the head if it is the last thing I do!", and so forth. Skipper was in rapture, at last a way to get his crew of dopey malingerers to do as they were told! (See the last four year of videos on this channel.) What was even better - it actually worked! Crew would not go to bed in the middle of a battle, they would no longer play 'chicken' with the periscope when being hunted, they would steer in the right direction and even warm torpedoes only when they were told to. All he had to do was change each order into "I'm going to _[thing that needs done]_ if it's the last thing I do!" and the crew would hop to it, lest the grim kobolds of the deep still their young hearts with dark fingers of icy seawater. This discovery, and the fact that in addition to being likeable and guile-free Skipper was also a damn good shot, would have been a turning point in the war, the _Wunderwaffe_ so long sought by the German military. It was only the fact that it was late in the war and the reworded 'orders' took ten times longer to issue that stayed the cruel blade of defeat from the Allies' war effort. Narrowest of escapes!
Got a problem here and hoping somebody can help. I just got the update to the newly released version yesterday, but there is issues. First, when I dive to hydraphone and a ship is located it only gives me a bearing of the ship, no blue icon that tracks the ship and no marking of the ships like before. Second, when i did get lucky enough to find a freighter I can literrally pull up next to it on the surface and there is no icon of that ship on the map making torpedoing impossible. Third, talking about torpedos; when I locked onto a stationary ship and fire it the torpedo is not visual on the map anymore. Can somebody tell me what im doing wrong or is the game filled with bugs? Thanks.
@mikedowns2006 nothing is wrong. The game is set to hard-core, and it's default is no map contacts. You'll have to start a new save and ensure to read all the settings carefully.
@@mathiasrryba I've tested Sinking Physics Overhaul 2 on the current beta. It works quite well, you get realistic behaviour but there are a few bugs with time compression like the ship can reset if you do 140x time compression watching them sink
@@Lite_lySalted i played today and i see that. I have 2 mechanics one with oil and second with parts and i was sailing at max speed. The shifts was changed and my boat was crusing 20 not 19
@@Lite_lySalted I don't believe Oil increases speed, The Item description says that when running on high RPM for a long time your U-Boat will produce thick black smoke, The Oil is supposed to help with that so you don't get detected as easily when using Lubricating oil for the engines. Just my two cents
Being depth charged while in that little dingy is a different level of stressful.

I think Admiral Donitz would want a word with you
U know the destroyer can hear the eco sound when u do
The echo sounder has 2 modes, only one of which can be detected by enemy ships.
I like damage modelling, aids immersion. Kayjay is down in the lab so I should be able to get away with that one.
something that will make the T5s much more useful besides situational self defense torps.
With speed zero, angle on the bow and distance don't matter. Fish in a barrel.
I hope the will change the ship sinking time the ship going down to quickly
there is a mod that addresses it but i don't think it was updated in a while, maybe someone will get it to work for the full release.
