Initially when i saw the thumbnail for this video i thought that is going to be SO hard to replicate. However, you have truly proven me wrong! I watched your entire video, on mute, nd i, a beginner in the world of polymer clay, could understand your process every step of the way. It was extremely easy for me to follow along. And trust me, i am probably a negative on the scale level. I have all this polymer clay that i bought to dabble with for jewelry making. Two days ago was my first try at making a cane. It didn't turn out exactly how i envisioned but i am learning. I saw your video nd fell in love with the spiraling. I so longed to be able to do that even with my limited skills. But I'm telling you, i think i can do it! It may take some trial nd error, but I'm going to go for it!! Thank you for making this tutorial. Even though your last video was 4 years ago, my hope is that you make a return, maybe. Hopefully. It'd be an awesome comeback.
Wow, that really was a new cane option for me. I really have been too traditional, so look forward to trying this type of cane. Thank you so much for sharing..
Your teaching and instructional presentation are fabulous. As an instructor I really appreciate concise tutorials. You definitely hit that mark! Thank you for sharing your time and talent .
Quiet, I totally agree. I love instructors who tell you what and why and how little actions can make or break the cane. These are the little details that could possibly take days, if not weeks to comprehend using the trial and error method. Motely Woods, thank you for producing such a scientifically informative video.
I've worked a lot with the zentangle method, I think that's why your video popped up. I'm a beginner when it comes to polymerclay, this probably takes time to learn. Thank you for sharing your amazing knowledge. Marre in Sweden on Gotland.
You are an EXCELLENT teacher. You are clear with specific step and are very generous with tips. This is the first time I've seen you and I immediately subscribed. Thank you and I look forward to more.
Thank you SO very much for posting this tutorial!! I know how much time, effort & heart goes into making a video. You are so generous to share. I absolutely LOVE how TO THE POINT you are. People have complained on other tutes that it goes too fast. Maybe they don't know they're able slow it down by clicking the "gear" icon on the bottom of the vid (settings). I so love that you don't pat, turn, pet & all that other unnecessary stuff!!! You didn't say UHM even one time. I LOVE you for that!!! I also appreciate that you put links underneath. I hope to see more things from you because your style is the best!!! Thank you again.
This is hands down the best video tutorial I’ve ever seen! I was able to stay drawn and watch the whole process since you sped up the video and dubbed over with the instructions. Beautifully mastered video and the cane is amazing and I can’t wait to try it out!!!
Oh my goodness. Where have you been? It's so good to have clear instruction in a video that doesn't go on too long but you can find out more if you choose. I am only beginning to understand that taking time gives a superior finish when making polymer clay pieces. This is going to be my next challenge. I look forward to your future work. Thank you
I did this can following you tutorial last night It was like the 6th time at doing a paradox cane. I finally mastered it thanks to all your tips! I love this tutorial! Thank you thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing your expetise on these mesmerizing canes. I also subscribe to Meg's tutorials and have been enjoying her imaginative work. I am glad to have discovered you as well!
Thank you so much for your tutorials ! I like to use the still photos some of the time and the video the rest of the time. It’s wonderful to have both to choose from. I have tried many versions of this cane and am determined to get it right. I think that your video tutorial on assembly and reduction will make all the difference! You are an excellent teacher! I love your choice of music too!
Thank you! I learn best from written tutorials but have found many folks prefer video - and they’re fun to make :). Feel free to reach out to me on Facebook or here if you’re still having problems and I’ll try to help.
WOW! You just jumped to the top of my list for great tutorials! Your thorough explanations are great! My only suggestion would be to slow down when you are talking. I guess if you record while watching the sped up video, that might be difficult, though. Anyway, thank you, and I am going to try this one again. Last time I struggled a lot with the tutorial. Thank you!!
Thanks! I’ll try to slow down when speaking, appreciate the feedback. I’m a fast speaker in general. I actually write out the script ahead of time and read it without the video playing.
@@MotleyWoods Noooo! Don’t slow down; tell folks they can set the speed slower using the “gear” icon. When people drone on super-slowly, I’m forced to watch at 2x speed, and sometimes, even _that’s_ not enough! Life’s too short to watch people making gradients by rolling clay through the pasta machine twenty times, and then reducing a cane for half an hour. I really wish folks’d instead follow Fiona Abel-Smith’s lead and link in the description to Skinner blend-making and cane-reducing vids so those who need ‘em can see ‘em and those of us who don’t don’t hafta sit here tapping to get through the boring parts, then having to go back again because we misguessed where the dull part ended. (I don’t understand why people don’t know how to speed up and slow down vids after all this time! UA-cam’s been around a couple decades, and folks should know its features by now!) Thanks for the handy tips so my paradox canes come out a little straighter! Great job, and thanks a million for not using noise words so I don’t hafta contemplate killing myself so I don’t hafta hear ‘em. 😉
This is a great cane. I have not watched a tutorial from you before and while I really appreciate you pointing out the critical steps, I wish you could have slowed down when putting the 3 pieces together. You dont have to talk thru it all, but slowing down would have been very helpful as well. I felt like you were on the clock and if you went over it would be disastrous. Please keep this in mind on you next tutorials. Thank you so much for a great cane.
So beautiful! Do your hands ever hurt after making these complicated patterns? Some of them would make great patterns for cloth! Really admire your patience and fortitude not to mention your creativity! THANK YOU FOR THIS! Ilove it!💜💙💚
Hi, I don't say this often. Awesome work! It was pleasure to watch a clean, well done video with extra important info others overlook sharing! I shared your video.
This is a gorgeous cane! I appreciate seeing and learning something more complex than most on UA-cam. I also appreciate having the long version to watch if needed. You did a fantastic job explaining everything. I look forward to seeing more 😍
Es genial !! Lo mejor en youtube, magnífico trabajo. Le agradezco mucho el entusiasmo que muestra atravez de su voz y Gracias por ofrecernos su conocimiento. Desde España un cordial saludo
Really a beautifully artistic talented person you are. This is very hard and you have got to have enough clay, don't skimp on the amount of clay or your going to be sorry.
Thanks! That’s part of why I made this - the construction is challenging and I hadn’t seen anything that went into good enough detail on it. Maybe this still isn’t good enough, but I’m hoping it at least helps.
That was very informative! Thank you!! I work with polymer clay for years now, but there is always more to learn! I subscribed..and I think your channel will grow very fast! Keep up your beautiful work!!👍👍
This is absolutely gorgeous! I have to ask, how do you know by bending, cutting, reshaping and condensing, what kind of design you will get? I couldnt fathom that by doing those things, what the end result will be. You are amazing, your choice of colours is SO beautiful, and your instructions so concise, that I had to watch this many times to get the similiar results. THANK YOU!!!😊💜💭💚👍💥
wow this caught my eye real quick so beautiful, I'm all into polymer clay now, Katos ok but not foe fine facial details, be sculpting like when you stick a pin in a cushion other then that its nice and firme
If you were to categorize the level of skills to make the cane, I would say intermediate. The blending part was so fast as well as when you started filling with the black.
Thank you very much for your tutorial. Did you try other brand? I'm actually using Cernit and some Fimo Professional. Could it work with these two brands?
Caning can work with any brand clay, though firmer brands tend to work better. Mixing clay doesn’t always work well unless it’s all the same percentages, since different clays move differently under pressure. Cernit can be sloppy, so you may need to leech it first. Fimo pro is very firm and likely quite good. Most folks use premo in the US, and it’s what I started with, but switched to kato and have been happier. If you’re happy with the results you have from your clay brand there’s no reason to switch, and unless your clay is very soft (Eg Sculpey III) it’s unlikely that switching clay brands will dramatically change how good your canes are. So use what you have or love. This is a great article to read: thebluebottletree.com/best-polymer-clay-brand/

I absolutely love the fact that you're stepping outside "traditional" tutorials, providing information and options! Definitely a channel to follow.

I do Zentangles.....OH I WISH I COULD DO CANES. This is one of my favorite tangles. This is superb.
You just need to do it. Learn the basics and following a tutorial like this will make it easier then you might think.
Amazing work!! I was a "tangler" long before I got into clay or creating adult coloring books. Paradox is one of my favorite patterns to draw. :)
I did this can following you tutorial last night It was like the 6th time at doing a paradox cane. I finally mastered it thanks to all your tips! I love this tutorial! Thank you thank you!
That’s so wonderful to hear! Thank you for sharing, it makes me very happy!
Beautiful design, with many variants. Thank you😃
This is absolutely outstanding. Never seen this before.
I know this was a while back but it’s excellent. Where did you go?
Thank you so much! This is absolutely beautiful. I am going to look for Meg's turorial 1st and then I will hopefully "graduate" to this beauty!
Honestly this is such amazing talent. Creative and stunning.
Hi Motley, just starting into this art of polymer clay. I’m glad I find your channel. Thanks for sharing your knowledge
You make fantastic canes - and explain how to proceed very well!
This blew my mind to watch, thanks for providing this video of such a work of art!
Thank you, you explain this better, I'm now willing to give it a try..
