@@mingli1241 rabbit is good too. i love this stories as they got so much feeling when told and it feels almost like you are there in the moment it happens.
Lol thats only the used BMW story. New ones are generally solid. However it wasn't a smart thing to buy a new platform brand new model soon after release, those cars are the ones you chase gremlins on 3 years later.
1:14 "You know, my wife at the time" - Lol...Christopher you rock man. I'm telling you - there should be a VinWiki shirt lineup that says "My wife at the time"
Once Vinwiki got large, they realized they didn't have enough stories. So they hired writers to write stories and a good storyteller to tell them. The stories from this guy are fake, but still entertaining.
Definitely must see storytelling. Part of me wants to hang with Chris but my adult half says "hell no, you'll end up in (insert one of his stories here) situation."
You never know when you’ll run across something that just makes you really laugh out loud. His ‘I just know that BMW is over in Kazakhstan hooked up to a team of horses with the engine light on’ was that thing for me today. Thank you for that.
The freaky part is... I remember saving a picture from THAT X5 on Ebay when I was looking for an SUV around the time of the story. ~ 15 years ago now ish? Wow..
BMW’s, hookers, 4x4’s, weed forests. Christopher’s stories have it all. I bet, by the time this story is over, the BMW will have probably had a topped off tank of blinker fluid.
Another awesome story! Also, having played the “BMW whack a mole CEL game”, I know two things are certain: these cars will always have a new fault light on each time you start the car; and secondly, the moment you’ve had enough dropping cash in to fixing it and decide to sell will be the point the new buyer has zero issues for the next 3 years. Or you can just never get it fixed to the point someone will buy it. Had a trunk actuator and the sunroof fail on the same day the buyer of mine was coming to pay for and pick up the car. Needless to say, I had to renegotiate to an even lower price on the spot.
So I’m having a crappy day just getting outbid on a boat on eBay. Bumming over it and then I get the ding telling me VINwiki has a new video out. See Christopher’s telling a story today and instantly am having a better day. Love this guy!
This story reminds me of the Cuban "businessman" (from Miami) who purchased my '94 Viper back in '04. We met (on a Sunday) at a Hwy exit Subway sandwich shop in Naples Fl (midway between our locations) so his mechanic could inspect the Viper. After the car cleared the inspection, he removed his "fanny pack" and handed it to me. We proceeded to sit down at a table in the Subway, where I count and stack over $40k in non-sequencial 100s, 50s, and 20s, totaling my full asking price. The cash was packed so tight it was difficult to remove. He wanted his leather "fanny pack" back, so I loaded up the cash in the pockets of my cargo shorts. Currently, my favorite "road trip" vehicle owned is a TitanSilver on Blk '03 BMW X5 V8 Sport Pkg/Cold Pkg/Prem Sound Pkg (HRE staggered '19s/Vred Ultrac Vorti tires (summer), OE square 18s/Conti CrossContact tires (winter)). It has over 210,000 miles and EVERYTHING functions correctly, no check engine light, and still has original timing chain guides. Full disclosure........I spent OVER full book value of this X5 on repairs in 2019. Still can't bring myself to sell it, such a pleasure to drive. Like driving an E39 540 Sport while sitting 1' higher.
The only thing lacking in this story was the, "I personally don't do drugs" disclaimer that accompanies every one of his stories in which drugs seem to be involved somehow.
BMW X5.... this car, especially the older models are known to nickel and dime you to death, literally! On another note, this was my story with my 2014 650 Gran Coupe. I had it for 2 years, it felt like it spent 1.5 years at the dealer and on cue, I got a Nissan Altima as a loaner every time 😂
Yo Chris I saw you at caffeine and octane on Sunday as you were driving away. So glad I got to meet you and see your truck. Thanks for another awesome story
LMAO at the "In Kazakhstan if you have the car you own the car." Makes about sense, I really doubt that buddy had access to or lived near a certified BMW dealership or shop or tech, but am also pretty sure that thing will be jury-rigged to keep running and running and running through the hills and villages and places all throughout Kazakhstan for the next 20+ years ahah. Love this fellas stories too they're always entertaining!

"Do you have the means to properly get this car serviced over there ?" I am from a former comunist country, you should have seen the smile on my face when you said that, because you made me think back at the time when we would buy cheaper right hand cars from UK and then convert them to left hand drive to make a profit on them. Did convert the x53 X5 also, they don't go crazy if you cut wires, I had to extend every single wire under the dash because I couldn't find a wiring harness so I had to make my own.
I have an E53 X5 and it’s great. We’ve had it for 14 years since it was new and it never ever let us down (about 209,000km). It was never pampered. Yours must’ve really been a cursed car... Or mine is just blessed. ;)
Years ago a buddy of mine got his mom's 'hand-me-down' first gen, 4.4l v8 X5 (it was even that same sort of blue). The thing was mint, always dealership maintained, super low miles, etc. etc. It basically became his wife's car, so still led a privileged life and was never beat or driven hard; all that said, I can't remember a time when the POS didn't have a problem (& as you point out 'it always ran.') I forget exactly what happened to that X5 but do remember that he said it was essentially totaled (no crash).
