- Jim McCann was a member of The Dubliners from 1974 to 1979. Returning to his solo career he had a huge hit with the song ‘Grace’ and released an album of love songs by the same name. This is one of the songs taken from that album,.
I can never get enough of this wonderful Man.... SO much better when Solo, without the 'Dubliners', sorry....
His voice was so Pure, and even though he is gone now, he lives on with his beautiful recordings like this!!!!
my dad always sung this song to our mum at the family parties both passed both missed love you mum and dad
My dad too. And he could sing. I thought all men must be able to sing and was ejected from choirs because I couldn’t pitch to the quorums.
Blasted type ahead; not quorums, choirs!
Lovely version of a beautiful song. We miss your awesome singing Jim. Thank you for your legacy of songs for us to enjoy.
Just a beautiful song from Ireland as I've ever heard
God bless you were such a beautiful singer
Beautifull version from a sadly missed singer
What a beautiful song is this...
Was such a lovely singer and a lovely gentleman
Beautiful voice. Perfect for this lovely song
My dad used to sing me to sleep with this song as a kid
Beautiful
This was but one of the songs my grandfather would sing after a few scotch and sodas. Always a malcontent as a teen he came to the U.S. as a stowaway on a ship.
My beloved hometown
But does anyone know the last verse? In the far fields of India "neat war's dreadful thunder. Her smile was a solic and comfort to me. But the cruel hand of death has now torn us asunder. I am lonely tonight for my rose of Tralee. That song is based on a true story. William was from the posh side of town and Mary was a poor girl who was a servant in his house. They fell in love but his family disappeared and made him join the army and go to,fight the war. We were a British colony back then. He was blinded by a shell and discharged but the day he returned to Tralee was the day of Mary's funeral. Now every August we have a festival in our town where girls from all over the world come to compete for the title Rose of Tralee
The pale moon was rising above the green mountain;
the sun was declining beneath the blue sea
when I strayed with my love to the pure crystal fountain that stands in the beautiful vale of Tralee.
She was lovely and fair as the rose of the summer
yet ’twas not her beauty alone the won me Oh, no! ’twas the truth in her eye ever dawning that made me love, the Rose of Tralee
The cool shades of evening their mantle was spreading, and all smiling, was listening to me,
The moon through the valley, her pale rays was shedding when I won the heart of the rose of Tra-leeeeee!
Loved it. Thank you.
RIP
