Europeans generally more open on TV about human issues, than in the US ? I find that when some American celebs appear on UK TV that they are more willing to share very personal stories, which they would never share on US mainstream talk shows.

Then you need to re-read the history books. The Brits were one of few who came to the USA. The Dutch, French and Spanish were there first. And if before them the native Indians were the first in the whole of Americas. Look at New York, the Dutch developed it into what it eventually became.
