@pr k No, you are wrong. GOD will not turn down anyone who goes to him. Maybe certain civilizations turned their backs on GOD, but GOD was always with us. Did you know that the Chinese writing, or letters are based on biblical events? Certain characters of the Chinese writing depict Adam and Eve, Noah’s flood, and even JESUS♥️ I can link you a video that shows you these cool things if you’d like.

The OT is laconic but the language indicates that Samson was more than a bit amazed at having killed a thousand philistines with the jawbone of an ass, it does not read as if anybody made the story up:
JDG 15:11 Then three thousand men of Judah went to the top of the rock
Etam, and said to Samson, Knowest thou not that the Philistines are rulers
over us? what is this that thou hast done unto us? And he said unto them, As
they did unto me, so have I done unto them.
JDG 15:12 And they said unto him, We are come down to bind thee, that we may
deliver thee into the hand of the Philistines. And Samson said unto them,
Swear unto me, that ye will not fall upon me yourselves.
JDG 15:13 And they spake unto him, saying, No; but we will bind thee fast, and
deliver thee into their hand: but surely we will not kill thee. And they
bound him with two new cords, and brought him up from the rock.
JDG 15:14 And when he came unto Lehi, the Philistines shouted against him: and
the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and the cords that were upon
his arms became as flax that was burnt with fire, and his bands loosed from
    off his hands.
JDG 15:15 And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and
took it, and slew a thousand men therewith.
JDG 15:16 And Samson said, With the jawbone of an ass, heaps upon heaps, with
the jaw of an ass have I slain a thousand men.

Somebody here (That'd be you), uses the King James Bible. That's the very same Version that I use! It's great to see people who are interested in using the only Bible that is the closest that we have to the Actual Word of God! The King James Bible was derived from the following Scripts:
1-The Textus Receptus (The Received Text).
      2-The Masoretic Text.
      3-The Byzantine Text.
      4-The Antiochan Text.
No other Bible is quite like it, although the Modern English Bible is very close. Those two Bibles are the closest that we have to the Original Word of God. Nothing else is even close, what with deleting certain Verses and words. If you're interested, let me know, & I can give you a few of the many examples of words that are changed and/or missing. I wouldn't want to be in the shoes of ANYBODY that dared to mess with the Holy Bible like that. They're going to have a lot to answer for, on the day of their Judgement!!!

It's a bit silly when you exclude the God factor within the context of the story, the predominant factor in the event. Here Samson is just an instrument for the physical aspect. The conductor remains God. It's a bit like opening the Bible knowing it's a book that tells supernatural tales, you're going to read the story of Moses and see at one point that he splits the sea in two. And there you say to yourself, uh, it's not possible. Uh, you're going to read a book with supernatural stories, and you still want to apply human rational reasoning to it. It's a bit icongru, don't you think ?! If Samson manages to turn this whole temple upside down, maybe it's because God who is the big factor here is allowing it, hasn't that crossed your mind ?! Now if you are too Quartersian with Bible stories, you should start by wondering how it is possible for a human to have supernatural strength like this, before wondering how the temple is done to collapse with it. a pressure on these two main pillars. It would have been more logical for you to start questioning yourself from this level.

Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: John 16:13
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. Hebrews 10:25
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Matthew 25:9
But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. Jude 1:3
Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. Proverbs 11:1
A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight. Isaiah 45:7
I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things. Numbers 22:12
And God said unto Balaam, Thou shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curse the people: for they are blessed. Jeremiah 33:6 Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal unto them the abundance of peace and truth. Genesis 1:2
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. Acts 13:12
Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord. Romans 3:19
Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Daniel 3:29
Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort. Habakkuk 3:2
O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy. Malachi 3:16
Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name. Joel 2:28
And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: Song of Solomon 5:7
The watchmen that went about the city found me, they smote me, they wounded me; the keepers of the walls took away my veil from me. 2 Timothy 2:19
Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
1 John 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Perhaps they just believed that his strength had left him for good. They saw her gradually have her hair long without being able to accomplish any feat. They probably also thought that a blind man like him was no longer a real problem. There is also the arrogance factor. He did not know that God was going to allow Samson to accomplish one last feat and who then is the greatest. Samson makes a prayer to the Lord, he asked him to put him to death, but may the Lord allow him in this last time to take revenge in one blow on what the Phillistines have done to him. And God answered his prayer.
