blaster 0416 Thank you so much for this. I am replacing my Honda r12 (small fast ski) It is NOT a good rough water ski. I want a better ski in chop. I was recommended a Yamaha FX. So now you have confirmed that choice. I'm looking for an FX now.
I went out in chop on a 21 gp1800r and a 21rxpx 300 and there was no comparison with comfort and feel of capability! Swapped several times over the day and Overall the seadoo felt way more capable and these arent purpose built for that! Incredible ski the new rxpx300. Yamahas and their nano xcell hulls feel like they get pushed around by swell alot more no matter how you trim them! We aint talking usa conditions we talking eastern australian rough coastal experiments
Neither of these two skis were part of the original question. And the GP tracks truer and straighter through chop 1,000% over the previous (or current, for that matter) RXP-X. The scoreboard doesn't lie. But understand, we're not talking COMFORT, we're talking hull behavior. The Sea-Doo will definitely SOAK UP more bumps and vibrations as the Yamaha is very thin and light on insulation.
This is such a loaded topic. Waaay to many variables. What does rough water mean? What was the wind doing? What was the PWCs speed? What was the trim position? What was the approach angle to the chop? What about the current? Best thing to do is gets some experience. At least 50-100hours of seat time. Test drive all models and decide for yourself. I’m happy AF with my GTX. 👍🏼
What about the best Ski in chop? A LOT of guys are talking that Kawi Ultra beats everything in chop/rough conditions, what do you think bout that? You have experience with every single Jet Ski modell...
Trying to decide which to order right now. The 2022 Yamaha fx svho limited or the gtx 300 limited mainly gonna be inter coastal and sometimes out in the the ocean. Would appreciate any advice. Thanks
@@watercraftjournal i do long rides in the vicinity of 3 - 5 hours each ride. Currently just stick to the rivers, have a 2020 ex, have gone into semi open water but it's very top heavy feeling with passengers. I want the best comfort with passengers in rough water and not feeling like it's going to throw me off at the site of a half foot swell and best rider comfort and range per tank (probably after the atmo option for both) and its easier to find a unicorn then it is to find a dealer with demo stock that you can test ride here in QLD australia.
Ah, that clears things up. The FX HO or FX HO Cruiser would be a tremendous upgrade. Outstanding fuel mileage, good storage, decently comfortable and very predictable in chop.
This Video makes me nervous because I just decided to buy a 2018 rxtx 300 thinking it’s going to ride good in rough water( bay and ocean riding)my last ski was a 2009 fx cruiser????? Now what? Should I change my mind?
Kevin, the ST3 hull is very problematic in rough water conditions. Pay very close attention to offshore and super course racing; none are riding a ST3-based Sea-Doo, especially anyone who wins. They're on the Kawasaki Ultra 310, '19+ Yamaha FX or GP.
Landon, it's YOU who is biased because you need to justify your purchase. The ST3 hull is problematic at best. No racer competes on this hull for this EXACT reason. The Mark Hahn 300 was this weekend. It was 4-6 foot chop with 30mph winds. How many ST3 Sea-Doos were there? NOT ONE. (Two RXP-Xs, FYI) But what won in both Pro Open and Stock class? FX Yamahas. You are wrong on ALL accounts. Facts don't care about your feelings.
The thing that bothers me is before I can fish off my stable st3 platform I have to get there thru chop and rough seas. A lot of guys that fish offshore are probably riding thru these conditions more so then the regular casual rider. Really makes me second guess my fish pro order. Also if the riva sponsons help out so much why didn't sea doo just design better sponsons themselves?
The answer is money. The RIVA sponsons were designed using advanced hydrodynamic CAD software, are made from billet aircraft grade aluminum (with a poly composite adjustable blade) and frankly, cost too dang much.

The personal experiences of two individuals cannot undo the facts of offshore and endurance racing results. Go look at the scoreboard, you'll see that Kevin is 100% right.
I have a fx and my friend has a gtx. We bought it the same time brand new, my fx still going strong never had any issues while my friends gtx is at the shop for the second time. FX all the way
How about doing a vid on Yamaha or Kawasaki in chop or general ski use please? Interested to know whether it is worth buying an ultra 310 or a FX SVHO based on your experience?
No way!! I have many head to head videos that say other wise! I sell both brands new and personally own an Rxt x 300 St3 hull and hands down way better and dryer ride! We ride down here in Miami, always in the ocean. Main reason I got it was for the ride. All my friends have mostly Yamaha and even they say nothing rides like that seadoo!
Nobody asked about drier ride, but yes, the ST3 is a far drier ride...until the bow catches the lip of some cross chop and it bucks to the left and ejects you. @@watercraftjournal This is so true kevin, Yamaha has been really dominating the racing circuit with the New FX's. especially the long rides they do. Yamaha seems to really kick butt and take names in these Pro Open and Mark Hahn 300 races.
For exactly the reasons detailed in the video and article. The 2020 GTI SE 170 provided more innovation, pushed the limits of manufacturing and was far more popular on the sales floor than the FX. Yes, both sold out in 2020, but the GTI SE 170 far sooner and in higher numbers. But then the GTI was not mentioned in this video at all, and is definitely not better offshore/rough water than the FX.
Yeah I remember it wasn’t in this vid, but I recently read about it in the WCJ website. Yes, the GTI did push more sales, but IMO only because they produced more. Why do they prodUce more... probably because It’s a family ski and rich dads are buying them Would be cool if you did 2 rankings for 2021 because the FX puts the GTI to sleep. I can probably tow all the dealers inventory of the GTI with my FX. But you hit this vid spot on!!! FX puts the GTX to SLEEP!!

Kevin's discussed these two machines ad nauseum (including this one).
The FX is not bad at all , I fish of mine almost every weekend
Fantastic! Glad to hear!
Hey mate what's better in the open ocean for rider stability - the current fx or the kawasaki ultra? Thanks from aus 🇦🇺🇦🇺
Again, you're using the word "stability" wrong unless you're asking about sitting at a standstill out on the water.

@@watercraftjournal Having ridden both, the ST3 beats you to death in the chop. Can’t say that about the GP. Hence why I went with the GP.
