Thanks Simon, i've been meaning to comment for ages. I must have saved hundreds in watching your DIY videos - so thank you very much. My ABS light has just come on so will be investigating - hopefully just a sensor. By the way which OEM sensors would you recommend? When i replaced my engine mounts (after watching your videos) i used CORTECO which (as you said in one of your videos) were exactly the same but a heck of lot cheaper than dealer parts.

hi simon, thanks for your informed video, just bought scanner bluetooth 4 from your amazon shop, it does not mention abs light, but would the live data be useful and how? many thanks G

Hi Simon. Another very useful video - thank you! Sadly it came too late for me - I first had the LF sensor replaced by my local garage (not Volvo specific) and the new sensor did not solve the ABS message. I supplied them with a inexpensive reluctor ring (£1.89) and had them install that and that solved the problem. VIDA did say it was the left front ABS sensor. In retrospect I have a feeling the reluctor ring was simply dirty (a visit in a Wales ditch) and could have been cleaned but I'm happy as the new reluctor ring and an hour charge solved the issue.

Hi Christer. Glad to hear that you finally got sorted.
In defence of Vida it was indeed pointing you in the right direction. You had codes BCM 0011 and BCM 0012, the wording of which is Left Front Wheel Sensor Faulty Signal. Both of their Vida explanations have damaged rings as well as dirt/debris as a possibility to be investigated which could be done before replacing the ring or sensor.
It's entirely possible that you were correct in your dirt theory.
Half the battle can be having the time and tools to investigate, diagnose and carry out the fix.

Thanks Simon for your video. I’ve got Suzuki swift 18 reg with ABS and traction control lights on. The car actually had an impact on the front driver’s side in an accident. I’ve changed the drive shaft and the complete suspension including the whole hub, I’ve done wheel alignment. The car drives very well but the ABS and traction control lights are still on. Not sure what to do anymore. If you have a garage I can bring it over to have a look for me. When I put the OBD on, I get these two faults: 1. C1021 - right front wheel speed sensor circuit failure, 2. C1057 - Power supply voltage. Thanks

You could tap the sensor like shown in this video and inspect the pulse ring that the sensor interacts with.
The ring may be toothed like in this video or smooth and needs to be in the correct relative position to the sensor.

Hello my ABS light goes on and off intermittently on 2008 XC60. Ive already had my sensor changed and hasnt helped. Going to have a look at ABS rings. My odometer has also stopped working. Are these 2 things linked? Thanks James

    • @sirobb
      @sirobb  4 місяці тому

There's a high probability of a link. Individual wheel speed data like shown in this video will confirm.

Hi Simon very good video, bit does not solve my problem. My rear left wheel on my volvo xc70 2008 has a wheel speed sensor on the hub at the top, had the car put on diagnostic at a volvo garage and he said wheel speed sensor if faulty so bought a new one from dealer and put it in my self which was easy but when i take a right turn i can hear a clicking sound as if a relay is making on and of rapidly followed by the abs module work rapidly as well. It don't do this when i fake a right turn though which is strange. I have also been told that the year my car came out the went away with the idea of reluctor rings ! When i took the sensor out i could not see any grooves to a ring took the other side of the wheel off as well and no ring either. Can you help ??? Dash alarms are abs traction control needs a service.
    Thank you. Jay.

Jay check you're hub bolts. Buy new ones loctite but not the strong one and torque up just under the recommended volvo recommended torque. I had one bugger and it threw up lots of issues on my dash. I hope you sort it.

@Jay Singh You're correct that you don't have toothed reluctor rings but you do have magnetic pulse rings with alternating polarities so ultimately it's still a magnetic field interference which is affecting the voltage returned to the BCM and this individual speed can be read by good quality diagnostics like Vida exactly the same as in this video.
You would need to read off the precise Volvo code then work through the possibilities suggested in Vida.
Because the ring is built into the wheel bearing, you may need a whole new bearing/hub assembly or there could be a wiring fault.
You also can't rule out something simple like a loose bolt affecting the relative positions of the sensing components.

I sell the VCX tool which works the same as Dice and communicates with your car and Vida for full diagnostic code reading on every available module.
It works on nearly all Volvo models from 1999-2015 model years and I have new, tested and guaranteed working VCX ready to send out, exclusive set up videos and fast email support to get you up and running.
If you have a suitably specced laptop, you just need the tool and software which is £100 delivered payable through PayPal gift/friends and family.
The eBay ones are untested and the set up instructions are garbage so what you "save" in money, you lose in many hours of working stuff out.
So I can confirm laptop compatibility, let me know the following please.
      1. Full CPU Make, name and model number
      2. RAM
      3. Operating System version and whether 32 or 64 bit
      4. Current available free hard disk space.
