This card can push 5x full HD resolution in games. Yes it can. So we figured we'd put it to the test! - Наука та технологія
Its fun to watch these old tech videos. Linus you looked so young back then :)
monitors with small edges will make this experience even more exiting
He sounded pretty emotional... like he is glad to be alive to have technology to get to this stage...
also the image discontinues where one screen ends and a new begins borders just create the effects of the otherwise. sorry forgot to mention that earlier
5 monitors vertically = hella bezel.
back when multimonitor setups were jailhouse simulators.
@Hokrollo1
A Boot drive is where all your windows files go, so when the computer boots up it uses that drive.
Then you can use a HDD for storage. Movies, Pictures, games, ect. An SSD drive has no moving parts so the less you can have that HDD spinning the longer it's going to last.
@LtFab192
The panel is not hold together by the bezels. They are just for aesthetics.
those bezels are massive.
Why not just one REALLY BIG screen?
are you serious?
xX_DYLM4N_Xx nigga did I misspell?
do you not see the benefit of more screens rather than 1 large one, and no need to call me a nigga because
1) I'm white and 2) this isn't some rap shit this is IT related lol
AbsoluteTerritory how about, Bro or buddy or something that isn't so 'gangsta'
why are you even watching these videos if you don't see the point in multiple monitors?
LOL I'm just fuckin with ya buddy!
it is 5 monitors all displaying in 1080p at once, each monitor runs in 1080p, which makes a little over 5x with the bezel correction
@Albet27 it's pretty much the same...but its water cooled so you'll need water cooling in your gaming setup.
i dont think that i wuold like that
that is so bad.
if people do not like the bezel so just do as I did remove it and mount it on a piece of mdf positioned at an angle. it gave me a space of about 1-1,5 mm
@juliandizy Actually, your eyes constantly scan everything you see, It just happens that you focus on what's infront of you, but if you are actually experience this kind of set-up you will see the difference.
Doing just about ANYTHING on a display set up like that would be AMAZING.
@Alexanderdanice those "bars" are called "bezels" and they are really too wide... but I run 3 monitors eyefinity here... and I just put the middle monitor a little bit behind the others and put the others closer from each other. that reduces the bezel to half size
@proliferuiner because u can do eyeF with 3 42" LED TVs + it gives u a higher resolution.
Do any current games support settings for calibrating to Monitor Positions and angles, so the POV isn't warped around you, but rather actually matching the positions of the screens?
at this level yeah, but certain screens have much smaller bezels, and many can have the plastic bezels easily removed to significantly less bezel
Does it take long to get used to the edges from each screens? I think multiple monitors seems really cool, but when I think of it I would always be annoyed about the edges. And is atleast 3 monitors recommended? I figure with 2 it would defiently be frustrating having the edge right in the middle. Thanks, and nice video :-)
Because it actually increses your field of view,
like if you were playing battlefield, you can see further to the sides than most people.
there's a triangle set up on all the screens. the start point is on the first monitor, and then the rest of the triangle is displayed across the other screens. you line up the triangle and that's it.
@suvendumardi you would probably need a 1500w psu to be safe, you could probably use a 1200w, but might get the occasional bsod, also depends what cpu you are using, you need a high overclock on either a 980x or a 990x to be able to use these cards without bottlenecking them, if you are buying 2 of these, that would suggest you have money, so I would go for an asus rampage III black edition, with a Silverstone SST-ST1500 psu, and a 990x on a full watercooling system, 2 loops, and a large case.
Why don't they make monitors without the plastic contour outside, for multiple monitor users?
@Tenzinpelha NCIX is a vendor not a producer
I wonder what that system would look like using the new monitors that Samsung is about to release with the really thin bezels?
linus needs to redo this on linustechtips with modern hardware with like mounts and all like an ultimate how to
question, I have a similar set up. same cpu/gpu/power supply. Can I flick the dual-bios switch on the graphics card without damaging anything?
you said that it displays 5 times 1080p. But what about the displays? what's their max resolution? how come and they support that much of a pixel density???
Im devoting all of my spending money next month to upgrade my PC (first build). Watching Linus do his thing with the 6990 got me so pumped I can't wait to build and upgrade to something as profound as his demo setup.
I can't imagine the FoV headaches I would get from that monitor setup
I am trying to replicate this setup using 5 24" older, non-display-port monitors. Will I need 4 active mini DP to DVI adapters, or will 4 inactive adapters do the trick. I would really appreciate some guidance. THX in advance!
eh at first its a little different, but you do get past the borders on the monitors, and thicker borders can be trimmed by overlapping
they need some type of projector that projects over the whole thing but just shows up on the bezels that you put white tape on....
that is freaking awesome! and as for bluray, turn one of the monitors to landscape and use that.
@MastaPlanMan Gigabyte P67 UD7 B3
He goes through the system specs of it on LinusTechTips channel
Im looking at a gtx590 setup with triple 27" screen setup, I cant quite find any screens... which are these?
@pounchoutz
These do already exist. They're just expensive and not made for consumers.
So if that's what you want to change, I'm on your side!
Great to see a new vid from you!
@notree666 my point was, I'd settle with a lower resolution, as long as it doesnt have all that bezel
@kurosid "fixed resolution" and "can adapt" is kinda contradictive?
im just wondering, is it possible to have something play through eyefinity 5x 1080p in 3D...i havent actually seen any benchmark tests with the 3D set up and 5 monitors.
Is it possible?
I almost agree with you. But the bezels can be taken off actually. You would still get really thin bezels. Which would still look a little it better.
How good is the scaling between one 6990 and two in crossfire? if you're running at 5xHD res with 60 FPS in hawx, I'd love to see the performance if you added a second card. I've often thought that to properly test uber cards like this you gotta be using more than one monitor. I'd love to see if it could run crysis maxed out in crossfire
This seems pretty cool. Looking through the bezels is distracting.
the screens need to have a thin bezel around them, so they can be put closer together without the jail cell effect
@gamer931215 sir i think there is some elements in dual GPU cards that you have missed, it's not possible to run more than 2 dual GPU cards paired in a system
This guy is the Evan Baxter weatherman of technology! Love it.
Settings show resolution of 5928 x 1920 witch is more than 1920x1080x5. How does it happened?
@NCIXcom Linus this is a tad irelivant, but do you think my Corsair HX750 will be suitable to run a GTX 570 SLI setup? with an i7 at 4GHz
and would it be great to use one 22.5monitors and to in corners 17?
For benching why dont you use a external drive to have all your games on for benchmarking?
Hello, I got a massive dilemma right now. I bought 2 x Gtx 580 classified from Evga about 3 weeks ago, and now I'm looking around and seemingly the 6990 is a better choice. Should I sell my Gtx580class and get the 6990? Does the 6990driver have problem like the 7970? Please reply.
@nitrodavid There are already monitors out there designed exactly for this that have three panels integrated in such a way that they're seamless
linus please do a video to explain what are VRMs, mosfets and all that good stuff.
thanks.
ya, it helps a lot. I have the middle in front and the sides go behind.
This is very very cool. But it would be so much cooler if there wasn't 12" of bezel covering the image. When are we going to have Bezel-less monitors?
i think companies should start making monitors with really small borders for the use of surround. Because something as cool as this becomes an eyesore when there are large bars between every screen.
@necridkee The point is to show what the latest technology can do, not to convince you to buy this card.
HELP! What drivers are you using? There is no option for 5x1 Eyefinity Group mode no matter what driver version I use! I tried 11.2 to 11.5 including all the hotfixes in between. 10.12a and earlier won't install (when you click custom install, it only shows everything else except the driver package itself as an option in the driver suite).
and yes I'm not an idiot, I driver sweeped everything clean, and running things on a fresh Win7 install too. WTH AMD!
im just curious with something about monitors lets say my card is running a 22inch monitor at 1920x1080 and i want to use it with my 55 inch tv at 1920x1080 will it struggle more because its a larger screen? or does it not matter? does screen size matter or only resolution?
@Acerimmer12 It's not possible to cut out the bezels on these monitors.
@thatmetalguy85
And THEN wait for it to have acceptable enough response times to game on.
@achimasi09 One card gives 5 monitor support, two cards give 10 :3, and if you're good at modding and construction you could make a 10 screen display; where the top ones kinda bend at a angle to give a circle shape as if you're in one of those dome theaters, that would be great for large views from the top, and front ,and sides. I want to see someone make a suspended chair where you're complete surrounded by a screen for 360 view of the digital world.
@SniperKillerize Not the same resolution. though there is a prototype by LG 80" TV at 4860p
on that setup i would strip off the bezels because they far to wide. even if it takes away your warranty. but as a sales man linus cant realy do this can he?
If the bezels were half width it would've been tempting to set up something like that.
all i did was give reasons why most people would lean towards an eyefinity setup instead of the alternatives you presented. Namely being a more comfortable area of viewing on the tv, a better picture quality on the projectors, and a much higher resolution for both. also its not a typo when you misspell something... or did you shift your entire left hand one column to the right and one row down without typoing anything else?? cuz otherwise you use a different finger for c and s.
problem is with 1 40 inch screen the resolution would still only be 1920x1080 which on a screen of that size is a very low pixel density meaning you would have to be over a meter away from it so it wouldn't hurt your eyes, and if you have a 40 inch screen 1 meter away which is not really appropriate for using as a PC, you might as well just have a 20 inch screen which you can sit right in front of.
yeah, with triple screens a 3cm border is ok since theres enough space between them that your mind can pretty much tune them out but when theres 4 borders that aren't very far apart it seems like it would get quite annoying lol
@Uneedhelp91 :P you screen will fall apart a screen are mode of 3 layers protect , visualation mat and then backlight is tears apart if u took of the bezels
I do know what mega is, I was meaning to add a decimal point and still use megapixels, or write pixels instead, but I screwed them up. It was late at night.
I used 'about' because I wasn't including bezel correction and the frame rate isn't always perfectly the same, though he did mention the frame rate during the video, and checking the math again it would be at 59fps.
why did they take the 6990 off ncix? also i can't find them on newegg or tigerdirect??
I wonder, if you record with it. What will the resolution be. and how big will the file be?
that was like the first thing i thought of when i set up my first multi display. I don't know why it hasn't dawned on almost anyone else...
This style of gaming will really take off when we have completely bezel free displays. Also some very deep pockets will help.
@TiranusTX lol so what happens when you OC a 980x to 4.4ghz?
i managed somehow to OC my 980x to 4.0ghz with no voltage change what so ever (yeah and system is stable).. can you do that on a sandy bridge?
Personally I watch bluray movies on a 6 screen eyefinity setup. and its amazing once your back a few feet also. you dont notice the borders and get really immersed into the movie.. its like a mini imax screen ( you know IMAX since your from Canada)
@proliferuiner This setup has a resolution of 5400x1920, while a 42'' TV would have a resolution of 1920x1080.
what crazy wattage would i need to power 2 of these monsters in full power?
@SRSpoony meh.. Used to have it, just kept getting a headache when having to rotate my head everywhere.. Up/Downgraded to a single 24" monitor with 3D Vision 2
again as ive said before to my knowledge no tv on market can accept a 120hz input from a computer. you will only get 60fps and that will be divided into 30fps 3d. meanwhile you could get 5 120hz monitors in this setup, and mod the bezels. most leave it in 2d for smooth movement but there is hd3d eyefinity that allowed 3d eyefinity gaming, and true 60 frames per eye 3d instead of the 30 a hdtv would get from a comp. even in 3d hdtvs are behind(this may have changed recently, but i dont think so)
i cant play on more than 1 monitor coz the black bars get annoying unless there is like a 200" monitor that is curved
Why do you put the screens border to border? i would put them with the border of each next monitor behind the monitor closer to the middle so that the barrier between each screen is smaller.
Thats how i do it on my 3 screen setup anyway and its much better to use than having the whole of each border showing.
I would buy one of those monitors that curve slightly . Do you know the ones I am talking about?. I was wanting to buy a 2560x1600 3D monitor aswell. I have the cash to do so but I only recently bought the 3DTV and I feel I wouldn't use it as much if I bought such a monitor. I love gaming in 3D and that was a big reason for getting the TV as I didn't really need to replace my TV. It was either buy a monitor with higher res or a TV that will have 3D stations. I don't really mind gaming in 1080p
what happened when i use 2 6990 crossfire mode ???
What kind of hardware i need for it-----I want to by
how many psu watts do I need for amd 6990 and what If i use two of those and does it fit into my CoolerMaster Elite 430 ?
@archblanket well for movies it would be a pain, but for games I think just the normal 3 monitors in landscape would the ideal eyefinity setup.
how much does this strain the processor because i have a MSI 6990 with a atholon 620 quad core 2.60 ghrz and I'm fearing i would get a major bottle neck, cpus the last thing from my original build
Just wondering with 2 things, 6990 vs crossfire 6970, know they perform pretty much the same, but also thinking alot about the noise since 6990 is apparently pretty loud (have 700w power supply, should be enough for one) but likely gonna upgrade pc (almost if not all), thanks in advance
show me how u setup this 5 monitor.... show me the Display Port from the Back Card, does it need Active Display Port OI
No Sli is only nVidia cards. AMD/ATI cards run CrossfireX and yes this can run in crossfire mode :D
I would hate that soo much due to the black edges of the monitors. Would give me a headache, and some of the image is blocked by the edges as well.
all those gaming rigs ... btw do they make a lot of noise ?? (like u have CORE I7 990x + x2 hd 6990 + ram + cpu cooler + case fan hard drive etc etc ) i guess it make a lot of noise . if i am wrong reply
i wish they would make monitors like this that are a whole piece as to not have those think black lines splitting the screens.
@bustakai1 if you look at the size of ths card .. its MASSIVE, and the same goes for the GTX 590 .. unless youre using a huge case for your htpc then you'll have a problem, pretty much any mid tower case wouldnt even be able to fit it without removing the drive cages
@TheIsaacshepherd I am not stupid, I know what pixel density is.
I think I would rather have 2 large screens with lower resolution than 5 screens with so many lines.
Personally I would just take three projectors in a huge room. That way you could get rid of the bezels. The problem is where do you get such a huge screen.
