Very good job. Idk why people are giving it crap by saying it looks fake, maybe around the nose was too blurred but the texture of having pores makes it look way more realistic especially with an image that close. Usually an image looks fake when there’s no fine lines or pores because it ends up looking obviously blurred and cartoon-like
That, SIr, is Photoshop wizardry. I've seen frequency separation used on landscapes in various ways, but that is a great technique simply explained. High praise to you!
do'nt understand the first time I did this everything worked out very well! But I think somewhere my settings or something changed because after duplicating the layer in smart object for gaussian blur and make one for texture I am not able to retouch or nothing is changing when I am working in the blur layer...... not with the retouch panel or when I make something with the lasso it isnt blurring the spots but only making the lasso place darker.... can someone help me out??!
its a great Video, too much critics here. Using this method it shows you can control the level to which you detail or correct skin texture. Most of you only saw the outcome but i saw an entire process

Anyone shitting on this tutorial hasn't tried it. It's genius if you have any clue what you're doing. Stop being little trolls are do something with your time like practice. Thank you for a valuable lesson! This technique is priceless.

For whatever reason, at step 18, when I paint with a soft white brush in CC 2020, the skin gets darker. Your smart filter mask shows white in it, whereas mine is solid black, but have followed each step repeatedly for the same result. Not sure where to head. cheers
Instructions not clear. Appears that after high frequency in the began the scene jumps to the down color depth options. Further the Layer stlylecdoes not match to my Photo shop.
There is a tendancy with frequency separation to over do it. The skin looks to perfect and often plastic. I find that I typically need to reduce the opacity to a more realistic but flatering level.
at the fact you just need to copy layer, and do 1. to background layer: surface blur, which smooths skin but keeps quite sharp big shape's edges like nose, lips, eyes 2. to copied layer: desaturate, set blend mode to overlay, apply filter highpass. and result will be the same. additionally you may add mask to copied layer and apply it locally when it is needed, but with this example it is not necessary.

Face has a painted look even though there detail on the skin. Image was blurred too much with freq sep technique
