Going through a warranty process with a cue manufacturer like you did was VERY informative. And, very helpful to prospective buyers of Lucasi. I have a Lucasi myself. It's about 8-10 years old by now. Aside from the hand wrap deteriorating over that time, the cue rolls as straight as it was when new. Overall durability is easily a 9/10.
I used to own a Lucasi LZ-D2 with a classic 13mm shaft. A very basic, well built cue and it's still used by a friend after 15 years. The irish linen grip is holding up and cue itself is straight. Back then they didn't cost as much; I believe mine was about 240 euros. For someone looking for a decent cue, getting one of these as second hand might save you money. There's always the chance that you can upgrade or replace your shaft too for a predator or what have you. Nice review and got a follower.
about 10 years ago i bought a lucasi sneaky pete low deflection cue $450 but i retired the lucasi lucasi shaft for a jacoby super ultra pro shaft 11.75 mm with kamui SS tip, then i retired that shaft for a lucasi kielwood shaft,im loving the KW shaft with standard tiger everist tip, nice solid hits
I want to thank you for being the first and only unbiased reviwer of this brand manufacturers' product. It would be nice to see their line of the carbon fiber shaft, which is under the brand named Pinnacle. There has been no reviews of this line of carbon fiber shafts on the current internet.
Glad you enjoyed the Lucasi review! We do have a Rage review (also a Cue & Case brand) coming up, but no plans currently on the Pinnacle. But you never know 👍
My first american pool cue was also a Lucasi Hybrid (LHF 76). I still love the soft touch that you described in the video. So I decided to buy another sample of the same model. :-) I'm not very motivated to change the modell, though I also now have a GO Customs cue, that is a superb, but totally different. (more a sporty cue)
I bought a Lucasi Hybrid Fusion (LHF 10) a few years ago and I like it quite a bit. I convinced my coworker that the "LH" logo stood for "Left-handed".
I have to say that I have truly enjoyed this review. I was going to buy this same cue. Now I'm more leaning towards a Peachuer. I would love to see a review of that manufacturing company.
I fell in love with the solid hard hit of the McDermott cues in 80s and early 90s, lepro tip, i cant find a production cue today that feels like that hit.
I had that exact cue, didn't like it. Ive owned 3 Lucasi cues not a hybrid fan at all. But i would have to say i really like the Lucasi Custom cues. I have many cues, McDermott Viking, Fury and i would say my favorite is my 10 year old Lucasi custom I paid 250 bucks for.
Mine looks similar ... 2004nb hybrid with lizard grip and it plays very well with the slim, radial, and the solid wood shafts... combined with 314-3 and z shafts are comparable .... I would even compare with my p3 vantage shaft. Lucasi spliced shafts ( some are 8 or 10 pieces ) with a variety of different trim rings or whatnot. Still an awesome cue IMO ... stickers are a plenty but must remove. Radial splice pie shape is not a sticker
@AverageJoesPool I heard they are made in the same factory as predator cues. Anyhow hybrid cues are made with all the best features.... hence different markings ... mine came with a free break cue ( 25 Oz rage heavy hitter ) and I bought all the extra shafts separately.... all of which had different rings and joint collars. I love the uniloc joint
Never need more than half tip of English with the skinny radial spliced shafts but still hit what you aim at with up to two tips. Shooting hard with that many tips of English is the only time you will need to aim to swerve.
I had such great service from McDermott, that I replaced my cheap Cuetec house cues with Lucky cues, and they came dead nuts straight. Not a bit of wobble.
I know someone sponsored and working with Lucasi. They have some new stuff coming out. Anyways, they shouldn't call it custom. It is mass produced. Most of these mass-produced cues have very rounded corners because they are using CNC machines. Sure, custom cue maker's use CNC machines, but old school cue makers will have sharp points. Also, you know the proper seller is using their website. Or bigger websites like Seyberts. Sorry, Amazon affiliate links for that. You can see if Seyberts or Cue and Case will give you kickbacks. Thanks for having a straight review, though.
I find the experience with Lucasi Saga quite disheartening. I can only imagine the frustration a first time higher end cue buyer would be feeling. I'm also surprised with the amount of wobble the second cue had. My McDermott Lucky series with both the traditional maple and the g core shaft is almost perfectly true. I expect nearly perfect on a flagship cue.
The main difference (as outlined in the video) between the Hybrid and Custom lines is that the Hybrid cues tend to have more technically-orientated features. When you compare Hybrid and Custom models side by side the Hybrid tend to have a 'higher' spec, as in more features. Many Hybrid features do filter down to Custom though, so for some models the differences may not be huge. Hope that helps 👍
Good review, but the only thing I was really interested in was the ferrule material,I’m new to your channel, but maybe consider added that information to future videos 👍🏻
We do try to add that info whenever it is available from the manufacturer. But in Lucasi's spec right now they do not list the material, unfortunately. Hope you enjoyed the video otherwise 👍
What cue would you recommend between $100-$200 range. Softer tip preferably. I saw you review on Valhalla Viking. Is there anything better in that price range in your opinion?
That's a big price range that encompasses a lot of options. At the bottom end of that budget we have the Valhalla 100 Series, and the Lucky by McDermott - both excellent options. As pricings starts to creep up then Players becomes an option, and as you near $200 you have things like Star by McDermott (which are fantastic cues!) and PureX. If you can stretch to $195 then I'd personally be leaning towards a Star (hopefully supplied with the Tiger Everest tip, like in our Star review video). But loads of good options in that range. Hope that helps 👍
My first cue was a Lucasi with the LD shaft. While I prefer my current Predator 314 shaft, the Lucasi shaft really isnt that far behind, though I think they are making a mistake by pricing it the same as the Predator as they're missing cashing out on that lower tier. Why would anyone pay almost $400 for the Lucasi shaft when they can just get the Predator. Now, when the shaft comes with the cue, it's great value. Especially considering how nice Lucasi designs are. My only big problem with Lucasi is those rubber grips that eventually wear away.
Not will consider this cue brand at all. Most people will just screwed by customer service people that does not understand the customers issue or the way warranty works. They will get you with the "authorized dealer" BS. Besides waiting, there is no guarantee they will send a good cue. Seems like they need to train the quality control and customer service people for consistency. Probably high turn over and/or under staffed.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. In our case getting the warranty claim was far more complex than it needed to be... but it was honored, which is the main thing 👍
after the review I can say you were really unlucky. When I bought mine, I get another one for a friend at the same time. Perfectly straight. No wobble at all or bouncing in rolling. I get another one as second cue (not new this time) and it was perfectly straight. I even get the slim shaft (11.75mm) new and again perfectly straight.
Yes, that is possible! We had two to test (both shown in the video), the first one (now destroyed) was waaaaay off straight. The replacement from Cue & Case was pretty darned good, but not perfect (also as shown in the video). It could be we got unlucky on both, it can happen! Glad you are happy with your Lucasi's! 👍
I don't like their rubber grip bands at all. After a few years, the rubber becomes all brittle and crumbly. Happened with my Big BeuIah II break cue. I will never buy a Lucasi cue again.
Cue & Case offers a repair for that. It's not very cheap but affordable. You can also consider upgrading to a leather grip (but the groove seems to be deaper than usual on cues).
It’s just like any leather, vinyl or rubber that gets handled. The oils in your skin contain acids that will eventually eat into these surfaces and begin to break them down. A good cleaner for this type of surface should neutralize these acids and help to maintain the integrity of the grip material.
What violence!!!!! OMG!!! the fact that an 800 bucks cue can get to market as warped as a cheapo 20 bucks one kinda irks me... and yeah I´m not going to say anything about where they´re made, I´ve got excellent cheapies from there too, but just for the price range I´d expect QA to be golden!
This guy gotta be joking😂 Lucasi sticks are great and I've been using them for a long time, just gotta select the right one. Never had no issues, something seems off about this review
Sorry you feel that way. We stand 100% behind our review and consider it both fair and accurate. The Lucasi did not score badly at all: 3.8 Stars, and described as a wonderful cue to play with (which it is). However, the cue is not perfect, and was scored accordingly. Hopefully you will find some of our other reviews more acceptable! 👍
@Mr40styles Oh did the truth hurt, and you're all up in your fellings? Let's be real here, the first cue came with a warped shaft and/or joint, and it took 20 emails back and forth plus a video of them cutting it up up in pieces, before customer service did them good. That's unacceptable no matter what, and then Lucasi sent out cue #2 with yet a few other issues as announced in this video. We're talking about a high-end $800+ cue, and not a cheap Valhalla from Viking. So who's gonna take a chance with a Lucasi in the future after this review!? No thanks.
